The Norrathian Herald Official News and Announcements Session Maintenance and SOE Services Maintenance Session Maintenance and SOE Services Maintenance Grimwell 0 02/13/2009 18:37

Beginning at 4:00 AM PST on Tuesday, February 17th, all log-in servers will be undergoing maintenance. During this maintenance you will be unable to log-in to all games and account management tools, and you will be disconnected from the server if you are already logged in. We expect this maintenance to take approximately 30 minutes.

Also on Tuesday, February 17th, from 6:00-8:00 AM PST, SOE Account and Commerce flow, the Station Store, will be unavailable due to maintenance. We expect this maintenance to take approximately 2 hours.

This maintenance session will prevent log-ins, but players who are in-game should stay in game until they zone or otherwise make a request from the session system.

This might also cause some forum accounts to temporarily lose permissions, due to the inability to verify account status while the maintenance is taking place. This is only temporary and normal permissions will return automatically once the maintenance is complete.

We apologize for these interruptions and will resume all affected services as soon as the maintenance is completed.

As soon as I know that the server is patched and in normal operating condition, I'll update this thread to let you know.

P.S. Runnyeye and the FR/DE servers are also affected by this problem and hotfixing as well.

Back when we had EQII's birthday, Vox was the first PvP server to host a party and it unintentionally turned into a gank fest; causing the party to be closed for the interim until a solution could be found. That solution has been found and I am going to have a party this Friday at 2:00 PM PDT (That's California time!) and hand out goodies to folks who are online.

I do not have a way to let people talk across faction lines to each other, but I'll bring a friend from Community along so we can speak to you in a language you can understand. SMILEY

Thanks for your patience, I'll post more details on Friday so you know what to do to get in!

The Development Corner Developer Roundtable What Would You Like to See Next? (Station Cash) What Would You Like to See Next? (Station Cash) Grimwell 0 12/15/2008 16:08

The initial response to Station Cash has been a success for SOE and we are looking forward to new offerings for both EverQuest and EverQuest II in the not too distant future.

In fact, the response has been so strong that game teams are adding new employees dedicated to Station Cash, to allow us to continue to add new and exciting items to the marketplace, without having to pull from the core development.

In addition to strengthening our development teams with new staff; we want to be very open to you and your ideas for future items in the marketplace. Which is the purpose of this thread, what would you like to see in the marketplace next?

Please share your ideas for things you would like to see that fit within the spirit of the marketplace (please don’t ask for Epic’s…). I’ll be tracking this thread and reporting internally on the things that you guys ask for. While I can’t guarantee that every single requested item will make it in the games, and can’t set a schedule from your idea to delivery as a game asset, I want you to know that we are quite serious about not only hearing your input, but putting it to work if it’s viable.

As a reminder, there is an existing thread for your thoughts and feedback about the new Station Cash system and this one is intended only for your ideas about the things you would like to see us do next! Please respect that and keep your new item ideas and feedback in the appropriate threads.

That said, the ball is in your court; what would you like to see next in the marketplace?

Edit/Note: I know that "Station Cash" is not showing up in the forum view for this thread. There is a bug in the forums preventing it. My apologies to anyone confused about what this thread is before reading it.

Hey there!

So today was supposed to include a fun hour where I summon folks to a special room in the game and throw a party. Included in the festivities were a few hand outs.

Unfortunately, when folks got into the room and they started to ignore my rule of no PvP things fell apart. I love PvP and the chaos it brings, but it was bad for the sake of the party. End result was that me dev killing folks didn't slow them down so everyone got thrown out to Antonica or the Commonlands to end the party.

I'll have another one for you guys some time after the expansion. There's no reason you shouldn't get some cake and other goodies. I'll talk with the dev team about getting the ability to suppress PvP in a localized environment so folks who want to party can do so, and folks who want PvP at all times can stay out.

Nobody was overtly evil, it was just too chaotic to manage and hand out gifts at the same time. SMILEY I'll update this post when I have a better idea of when I can come in and throw a peaceful party.

  Hey folks,

While we have not announced a planned date for Storm Break (the next EQII Game Update), I know that some people sense a rythm to our cycle and will anticipate when the next one is coming. To the point that they take days off to be ready for that game update. In the past these folks have been a little perturbed when we don't happen to update as they have expected so I wanted to make this post to be clear on it.

We aren't updating this week. SMILEY

We never published an intent to update, and this is not a "push back" from that unstated public date -- but I'd like to ensure that folks who wake up on their perceived update day and don't have an update have no reason to think we don't like them. The work on Storm Break is moving along just fine, and we hope to have more information and an indication of when it is going live to you sometime later this week, but please don't get so excited that you take days off -- especially since we haven't announced the date yet.

General EverQuest II Discussion Frequently Asked Questions A Beginner's Guide to the EQII Economy A Beginner's Guide to the EQII Economy Grimwell 0 07/09/2008 17:42

Things can get expensive in Norrath, and sometimes a new adventurer can have trouble trying to make their way in the world. The guide below is intended to help those just getting started get on the road to riches.

Spoils of the Hunt

Perhaps the quickest way to start making money in EQII is by taking quests and hunting NPC's. Quest rewards vary, but usually include some coin and often a loot item or two, such as armor, jewelry, or weapons. Hunting rewards are quite similar; some NPC's drop money, some drop loot, and some drop both.

Winning coin and item upgrades is great, but selling the loot and rewards that you don't need will bring in even more money. You won't necessarily be rolling in plat at the start, but for buying lower-level upgrades to spells, armor, and weapons, it's a no-cost way to put a little jingle in your coin purse. And if you're fulfilling quests by killing monsters, you're getting double the bang for your buck; experience points plus money and loot.

Items won from NPC's and quest rewards can be sold to most merchants, and some are worth selling to other players through the broker. It's a good idea to check the value of the item on the broker before selling it to a merchant for quick cash. Though it will probably take a little more time to sell items on the broker, the reward is often worth the wait. See The Broker is Your Friend below for more information on the consignment system.

A Cornucopia of Goods

Harvesting is another way to start your cash flow. Harvestable goods are clickable items on the terrain, such as critter dens, wind felled trees, desert roots, etc. Clicking on these will have you gathering, mining, or foresting for raw components, and occasionally if you're lucky, you'll get a rare item. Start harvesting in the lower level zones like Commonlands, Antonica, and the city zones, and as you level up your skills you can harvest in the higher level zones, and get subsequent tiers of harvested items.

Pretty much every item that can be harvested is needed by crafters in their trade. If you are not taking up crafting yourself, gathering these items and selling them on the broker is a great way to earn some money. Crafters often spend so much time working on their skills that they prefer to buy harvested items rather than go out and find them themselves. Lower tiered items can be sold to those just starting crafting and leveling their way up, as well as higher level crafters who don't wish to go back to the lower level zones to harvest. Higher tiered items are also in demand since many of the crafters are high level and the people buying their goods want higher leveled crafted items.

Harvested items can only be sold on the broker or through your home storefront, as merchants have no interest in buying them from you. There are also tools available to help you harvest a little faster. These are player-made and can be found on the broker.

With a Little Elbow Grease...

If you're feeling crafty, give tradeskilling a try. You can harvest your own goods or buy them off the broker, and with a few extra ingredients and a little time you can turn an ordinary fish into a delicious delicacy, or a plain piece of wood into a furniture masterpiece. Small investments can return a nice revenue if you're willing to do the work. Check out EQ2 Traders Corner for some great guides on getting started with tradeskills.

The Broker is Your Friend

Whether your broker of choice is friendly and welcoming or rude and impatient, the broker is your friend in the quest to earn more cash. One of the best ways to make money in the world of Norrath is to sell your unwanted items to other players who do want them. Listing items with the broker through the consignment system is pretty simple and if you set your prices right, in no time at all you'll be hearing the ka-chings. Allakhazam has a helpful guide for using the consignment system.

Some things to sell on the broker:

  • Collectibles (also commonly called "shinies"SMILEY
  • Book pages
  • Lore and Legend items
  • Armor and weapons
  • Crafted goods
  • Spell books and recipe books

Recycling the Norrathian Way

Transmuting is a way of taking an unused or unwanted item and breaking it down into basic components that can then be made into adornments Adornments are used to upgrade other items. It may sound a little confusing, but the basic thing to know about this is that even if you have no interest in becoming a Transmuter yourself, you can sell your extra treasures to those who are, and selling brings in more money. And if you do want to become a transmuter, there's money to be made there as well. See EQ2 Traders Corner or MMORPG Info for much more information about Transmuting and becoming a Transmuter.

My Ship Came in But I Was at the Wrong Dock

When your bankroll is large enough, you can always take a shot at winning the big bucks with the Gigglegibber Goblin Gamblin' Game. Although independent studies have shown that the chances of winning the big jackpot are about 1 in 1,947,792, so I wouldn't stake my fortune on this plan. Still it's a fun way to pass a little time in game, and if you happen to win a little cash, even better.

Another small-change pastime is the pig races in the Village of Shin. Again, not a great way to make money, but if you're having a lucky day, maybe a small wager will increase your capital.

The information above is just a sampling of ways you can start to make money in EQII. Because everyone's experiences in the land of Norrath are unique, you may come up with your own ways to stuff your pockets. Just fin which method is most fun for you and go with it, or if you're truly ambitious, try a little bit of everything!

The Norrathian Herald Official News and Announcements Forum Structure Changes Coming on June 30th Forum Structure Changes Coming on June 30th Grimwell 0 06/26/2008 18:05
Hey there, I've made a lengthy post about some changes coming to the forums next week. Please click on this link to read the post and give your feedback!
Support Forums Forum Help and Discussion Forum Structure Changes Coming on June 30th Forum Structure Changes Coming on June 30th Grimwell 0 06/26/2008 18:03
Hey there folks! We are going to make a few changes to the EQII forums structure next Monday, and I want to give you a quick heads up on those changes, and the reasoning behind them, and then get your feedback.

Before I roll out the changes, let’s talk about why they are being made. It’s actually very easy to sum that up with just one word: Communication. Good message boards are a conduit for communication. People who want to talk have clearly identified locations to initiate and participate in conversations; and people who want to lurk about and read can find the right sub-forums for their needs in rapid fashion.

Right now the EQII message boards are a bit bloated. We have a LOT of sub-forums, and many of them cross over into each other in terms of utility. In some cases this is because we have not provided a clear space for certain conversations, and in others it’s because we have provided so many potential spaces that nobody is exactly sure where their post best fits in. They typically jump up to a generic forum and begin with “I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this but…”

With that in mind, the plan is to add boards where they are needed, or remove them where the clutter causes confusion. In a few cases “remove” actually means “merge with another board that serves a similar function.” So don’t fear that I’m about to embark on a frenzy of deletion.

Our goal here is to better serve the needs of the community, and the needs of the development team. If you can’t find information you are looking for quickly, neither can the designers, artists, and engineers working on EQII. These changes are intended to streamline the path to the information you want, and to provide that same benefit to the development team.

The changes will roll out next Monday, the 30th of June. Please keep in mind that we’re going to make these changes next week, and then we’re going to monitor the results for a while and possibly make more to ensure that the desired goal of having a better conduit for communication is served.

Now then, what’s changing?

New Support Forum Structure
The Technical Support forums are getting an overhaul that will make it easier for you to find a spot to post when you have a technical support issue. This will also make it easier for our Technical Support folks to identify and answer your needs by topic. Currently there’s just one message board for all Technical Support issues. On Monday the following structure will be created:
  • Performance Support (Video, Sound, Crashing Issues, etc.)
  • Connection Support (Launchpad, Network, Router, Installation Issues, etc.)
  • Account Related Support (Billing, Password, Subscription Issues, etc.)
  • Voice Chat Support (for the built in VOIP system currently on Test)
  • General Tech Support Issus (Anything not Already Covered)
As you can see, that will provide a few more boards for you when you need assistance. We hope this will reduce any confusion concerning tech issues, and allow people to focus on resolutions.

Forums That Will Merge
The following message boards are going to be merged into single boards to prevent duplication of effort, and better serve the conversations that take place on them.
  • Combat Discussion & Gameplay Discussion –> Combat and General Gameplay Discussion
  • Non-Gameplay Discussion & Forum Games –> Non-Gameplay Discussion & Fun and Games Forum
  • Tips and Tricks & The Newbie Yard –> Tips, Tricks, and New Player Questions
With each of these changes, the end result is a natural fit that eliminates a few forums that serve a single or similar purpose. This serves our overall goal by reducing the number of places to consider when making a post, or looking for specific information.

A Better Solution for Class Discussion
One of the key needs we are trying to answer for the development team with these changes is focused feedback on class discussions. Currently we have a full set of class forums, and then a set of sub-forums under general gameplay to discuss the systems that each class leans on to function. In order to better focus the discussion and feedback, and help the developers find the information they are often looking for, we are going to archive the following boards:
  • Spells, Abilities, Combat Arts
  • Achievements
The goal is not to stop conversations on these gameplay elements, but to focus the class specific feedback given in those forums to the class forums. This way when a designer is working on a specific class, they can venture into that specific class forum and find, read, participate in, or initiate conversations that are specific to feedback on that class; and not have to sort through a mountain of posts and forums to get it.

I anticipate that this will worry some of you because the class forums are often viewed as a “No man’s land” in terms of how frequently they are viewed by SOE folks. All that I ask is that you give it a shot and see how it goes. On our end, we know that this implies that we will be actively scanning the class forums for feedback, and while we can’t always post, we will do our level best to meet up with that implication.

To be clear: Not every post in a class forum will get a developer answer. Truthfully, the vast majority of them won’t, but this change and refocus on the class boards will make it easier for the team to find what they need, when they need it.

For now, that’s the entirety of the changes. Please hold off on doom and gloom replies until we make the changes on the 30th, and let’s see how they work out. Your feedback is welcome in this thread, as well as your ideas for other ways we could improve the forum structure for everyone involved. Please remember that not every suggestion can or will be used, but I will be reading and clarifying when and where I can until we make the changes.

One last note: I will not delete any of the message boards on Monday. The ones marked for archival will be locked to stop new posts and continued threads, but they will remain visible for a week. This will enable folks who want to capture data to do so in a reasonable time frame.

We will also move threads from the locked forums to more appropriate locations on request after the lock is set. So you do not have to fear that a favorite thread will be deleted and gone forever on Monday. The changes will happen, but I’ll keep the data handy just in case!

Update:

The Customer Service Announcements forum will be merged with the Official News and Announcements forum as well on Monday. This way there is one stop for everyone when we need to get an announcement out.

The General EverQuest II Discussion and EverQuest II Main Hall categories will also be merged into one larger category. This will not impact the forums in each category in any way not listed above, but it will cut down on the number of division bars displayed when you are scanning the forums.

The Norrathian Herald Official News and Announcements Have You Defeated the LON Living Legacy Scenario and Claimed Your Rewards? Have You Defeated the LON Living Legacy Scenario and Claimed Your Rewards? Grimwell 0 06/11/2008 15:43

Legends of Norrath™ is taking part in celebrating the Living Legacy campaign with a brand new beginner’s scenario that serves up loot cards as rewards! This scenario is offered free of charge to all EverQuest II players, and you will be provided with all you need to take it on and win the loot cards! What do you win? Let’s take a quick look:

Draught of the Vigilant

The Draught of the Vigilant is a one use XP potion that will increase your Combat and Tradeskill XP gain by 55% for a duration of one hour! This is a great item to use during one of the upcoming bonus XP weekends, or to save for a time when you really want to fly through the levels in the future!

Klakanon’s Watch

Klakanon’s Watch is an illusionary form with unlimited charges that will grant your character avatar a clockwork gnome appearance. This illusionary form will last until it’s cancelled and creates a bit of a fun opportunity for play and roleplay in game.

These items will be delivered as a pair to everyone who completes the Living Legacy scenario in Legends of Norrath, and each can be claimed only once, so be sure you are certain which character you want them for! You can play Legends of Norrath and win these loot cards from within the EQII game client, or you can visit the Legends of Norrath website to install the stand alone client.
