How? Okay...he's an exile, so what? How did all his lust power come about? Did he do something that no other could do? Did he buy a business of some sort? It really does make one wonder. Their has been rumours that he was once The One in a previous version of the Matrix. But I doubt that very much, he doesn't seem the type and their is no proof to show this.

First off it has been confermed the The Mero is not a previous version of "The One" If memoery servers the Merv and his wife were at one time programs that were put in charge of the deletion and construction of other programs. As the life of a program goes a better version was created and so he went to the Matrix and by useing what power he was given as well as logic, patience, and what knowledge he had he has become what he is now. He knows the ins and outs of programs and exiles and knows how to delete them if he chooses. To put it simpley the merv is like a crime boss or the don of a mafia. Just minus the family and add in a "buisness" so to speak. His power comes from what he could do and knowledge that he gains threw his power and now his armies.

"so much power".... holdon.

The Merovingian is lvl 100. An Agent is lvl 255. And i remember Morpheus saying, the powers of the agents weren't quite close to Neo's powers. Sooooo.....

Agents were killed already, it took some time, but a big group players took a lvl 255 agent down.

So a lvl 100 Exile, untrained in Kung Fu or other Martial Arts, would be a warmup for a big group. No need to talk of the Merovingian as if he's the One himself.

The Mero's main source of power comes from the Trainman, so that exiles
who escape the system by the Trainman then owe the Merovingian, and he
can manipulate them into his service.

Which leads to the interesting question of what leverage the Merovingian has over the Trainman and the Effectuator, two very powerful programs in their own right. How does the Merovingian keep them in check? Is it really just the payroll that keeps them in service?

I really wouldn't base my thoughts on the characters' ingame levels, those are purely ingame conventions. His power is rather "influence" than damage resistance.

The Merovingian is not bullet-proof, we know as much as that. Which opens an interesting, marginal question: if he knows the ins and outs of the Matrix and is capable of hacking it and hiding in it in front of the Machines' noses, he could undoubtedly equip himself with physical self-defense abilities. He could've easily dodged Trinity's gun in superspeed.

on contrar. The gun was up aginst his head. Just like she did for an Agent. Agents are fast but at that distance the second he would have tired to move it would of been a brain matter fest.

Perhaps part of the reason he is so powerful is that he takes the time to ask Why.

The Merovingian is powerful because he is a digital gangsta, case closed. Well, he's a pimp too.

Knowledge is power.

He was clearly a program with knowledge in the first place, then was exiled to the Matrix - most exiles come through the Merovingian, so he had the wherewithall to do it all by himself.
It was early on in the Matrix cycle, when the machine civilisation was still learning about its creation and various problems it presented - he was in a prime position to exploit this.

Much like various institutions across the world and individuals that are rich and successful - he started early. Plenty of people made their fortune in the chaos of World War II - backhand dealings with the Nazis, etc., and then set up legitimate businesses to further their wealth.

The Merovingian is now in a position where he knows so much about the Matrix, humanity, and the machine world that nobody can get close to touching him.

I think it is one of those things that doesn't have an explanation because it doesn't have to SMILEY

There's a lot of ways to guess how he got to where he is but no one really knows for sure SMILEY I think more background would have to be given on him before anyone could figure it out SMILEY
