IRT the comparison of the Merv/Percephone and White/Black, something of note is that Persephone mentions that, at one time, there was love between her and the Merovingian. In the Dame White/Mr. Black backstory, their melding was out of a necessity to escape the source into the Matrix. I don't know enough of the Merovingian and Persephone's background story, IE how they met and what their circumstances were exactally, but Dame White and Black never had that type of connection, and every bit of information I have seen, show they both have contempt and disdain for each other. This may be why their roles were replaced by Merv/percephone, if in fact they did replace them.
