For the Ashencourt Gargoyle, check out the Gunmans guide to solo Gargoyle in Ashencourt.

Unlike the guide for Ashencourt though, this guide will also work very well for Matial Arts (ignore step 2).

Ok, step 1: The right clothing

As you will see later in the guide, the appropriate clothing is rather important. Unlike as for e.g. Tengu in Yuki, you don't need clothing for resistance. The deal are "IS regeneration rate %" clothing.

That Clothing for up to lvl 45 are (if some are not in this list, I'm sorry, can't remember all clothing from top of my head =/ ):
- Pecks Shirt (Pillsen)
- Sakura Bandana [Male] / Mask [Female] (Sakura Construct)
- System Shades (Machine Investigator all over town, e.g. Mara c)
- Widows Moore Shades (Widows Moore Construct, hey wait a sec, yeah it's true, you get those by killing the boss this guide is written for)
- Headless Glasses (Outside Uriah Hideout)

Those clothing will help your IS regeneration greatly and thus enable you to deal more damage in a short time, but most of these clothings have not much or no resistance. But resistance isn't so necessary for this boss ^^

One thing though: Don't mix "IS regeneration rate %" up with "IS regenration rate BONUS %", since the second one does nothing right now. It's (to use the comparison of 9mmfu) a turbocharger with no engine (abilities, etc. that use that bonus are non-existant).

Step 2: Loadout

To deal out maximum damage, I decided to load a Scattershot / Gunslinger load. It involves the sidekicks: Full Auto, Controlled Burst, Pistol Barrage and Pistol Whip. The side kicks Controlled Burst and Pistol Barrage will enable us to do more consecutive ability rows, while Full Auto and Pistol Whip are big damage dealers if stated. In case of off-balance I just use Pistol Slide, I didn't bother loading Dual Point Blank because I hardly do Off-Balance in the way I deal with Gargoyle. I also have Rifle style loaded, see 2.1. why.

Step 2.1.: Weapons

If you're lvl 45, use weapons of that level to deal damage. It is not necessary to use Bedlams or Clamors when you are lvl 45. Though the additional 1pt of damage of lvl 45 weapons to lvl 40 weaponery isn't so notworthy.

What you should really have in your inventory though is the "Victory Rifle". It's the Collector item from Center Park, requires lvl 40 and has a 15% chance to Stagger. This weapon is excellent for any player, wether he uses Martial Arts, Guns or even Spy. I use that weapon OoIL (Out of Interlock) with Power tactic to bring the boss into Stagger and then do a state special (in my case it's Full Auto).

Step 3: Killing the Boss

Like in Ashencourt, this Gargoyle also follows a pattern. While the one in Ashencourt showed to be very vulnerable OoIL, this one is very vulnerable in IL (Interlock). Here is the general pattern as it is followed by the NPCs in Widows Moore:

1. Interlocking
2. "Nothing". This phase is important as we will later see.
3. Withdrawing
4. Interlocking: Note that the NPCs will try to IL you again without any pause in between. Your evade won't hold out against that too long
5. See 2.

The Gargoyle follows this pattern even more than his followship. If you experience that pattern you will notice that you will hardly be able to do normal attacks to him. So, how to deal with him then?

Note: You will quickly notice that the Gargoyle is, in contrast to the one in Ashencourt, a Rifleman. Staying OoIL and fighting him is not too wise, because he can deal out major damage here, but it's necessary if you want to state him for big damage attacks.

1. When you first encounter him, try to state him and stay out of IL range so he can't break your shield. It's the same as for the Ashencourt Gargoyle: Take the initiative, don't let HIM IL you, rather you IL him first. Although he deals out much damage OoIL, the short time required to do "Stagger" to him using Power and the Victory Rifle (see 2.1.) is worth the damage received.

2. This is the most important part. As soon as you interlock him he will try to withdraw. But in contrast to normal withdrawing, the process here is kinda bugged. You will notice that he tries to withdraw as soon as you see Phase 2 of his pattern (see above). "Nothing" means that you will see that nothing happens (logical eh?). After 2-4 seconds of nothingness he withdraws and immediately ILs you again. To prevent him from withdrawing use an ability! Abilities used in that Phase will to a very high chance succeed! So use power to damage him!

3. Now there are some important things to consider: Everytime he is in the 2nd Phase you have to use an ability to deal out damage. The only other way to deal damage to him is to use OoIL attacks (not recommended for a long period). After you used an ability in that Phase he will continue to be in that Phase until two things happen:

3.1. You pressed the ability too late / early and he will withdraw and take the IS queued with him.
3.2. You go into Block tactic. This is noteworthy because as soon as you block he will not withdraw and he will RARELY hit you with his now normal attacks. A great way to keep him in IL and to regen your IS, eh?

After queuing an ability to use the 2nd Phase against him it is important that you either immediately (after the ability gets accepted or fails) queue another ability or you wait till the animation of the ability is completed and goes into the Phase again. If you time the abilities at the wrong time, he will withdraw (3.1.).

4.
Now that you know how to deal damage to him using the 2nd Phase of his pattern there are two things that happen when he withdraws:

4.1. He will try to IL you immediately (no IL button and Ranged Attack button available to use). If you don't have an Evade active, this can't be avoided and he got you in IL again.
4.2.
He will try to IL you immediately too, BUT your IL button and Ranged Attack button are AVAILABLE. This means while he still is in the withdraw animation you can already move around! I suggest you don't try the IL button since he is most of the time still faster than you. I suggest you backpeddle a few meters and use ranged attacks to state him, then IL him first if you can. You can even try to activate your Evade again!  From this on you can go back to 1 and repeat. ^_^

Tip for stating the Gargoyle:

You can hardly do any normal attacks against him and thus you won't be able to use your strongest attacks! The best way to state him is OoIL. You get the chance to attack him OoIL if you view 1 or 4.2.
But here is the tip: Not only abilities to damage him will go through at the 2nd Phase! If you press withdraw in the right moment you will withdraw normally and be invulnerable to be ILed for 4 seconds (like normal)! In that time you can range attack him or build up your Evade!

I hope this helps you guys. I take no warranty for the use of appropriate grammar and / or word order or the correct use of the english language at all ^_^

Mfg, GG
