I ask this of Machinists; why aren't you asking more questions about what's going on in the Real? Surely the System created the means for those two (maybe more) to exist unmolested. Otherwise they would have simply killed them. And if Pace and Grey etc. act surprised, they are either being disengenuous or the Big Kahuna himself (Deus Ex Machina) has set up a seperate program for human/machine interaction that even the Agents, Architect, etc. don't even know about. (I suspect the former).

Hrm... he mentions being fitted out to work with different equipment. that could mean that they are:
from a newer version of the matrix
from an older version of the matrix
fitted out to run other machine equipment (external to the matrix or even experimental systems - new or old)
Given that Halborn is seeking a bilogical interface program (as is Carlyne aparently) I'd say that they have been selected for their exceptional abilities and seem to be attempting to put their mind into the body of someone else or even a machine in order to escape their confines.
So it would appear that Carlyne (a female name BTW, derived from Carolyne) witnessed the machine attack on Stallingrad, and Halborn (Hal - born = computer born? also there was Halborn of Rivendel in LOTR) was the one researching Neo in the cinematic.
Yup, seems along the right lines. Just i think you got the intruders in the cinematics mixed up, all the evidence we have so far points towards Halborn being the one to watch Stalingrad while Carlyne being the one watching neo and DEM (similar voicing on both characters too).
