First off, thanks are in order to the Devs who obviously put in a lot of work designing the new textures, objects, etc that made this event possible.  The new actions on the searchlights were very cool, and the Security personnel were the toughest mobs I've ever encountered.

I believe I speak for the majority of players when I say the final day of this event was a letdown.  After a sublimely crafted buildup involving all our favorite LET characters, what we ended up with was a 6+ hour marathon of killing mobs, without even a differentiated finale.  We spent hours and hours killing the Security and shutting down the spotlights, only to have them reconstruct and reactivate.  Some of us discussed in vain what clue we could be overlooking, what clever action would finally end the cycle.  Then, without any prompting or explanation, the Architect tells us that this time when we shut down the spotlights, it will somehow end the scourge of the Sleepwalkers.  Oh and by the way, the Security won't reconstruct anymore either, just for convenience’s sake.

There was no thought involved, no requirement except that we once more do the job we'd been doing for the past six hours.  No player or group of players precipitated the end by their actions, it just happened at a specified time.  Events should be more than just an endurance test without a point.  None of our work for the majority of the event meant anything.  We could've just hung out at Mara until the Architect decided it was time for the Security to not reconstruct anymore.

Feel free to post your thoughts on this event, but please keep your comments intelligent and don't let this devolve into a flame war.

Anyone who feels I contradicted myself in any way, I apologise.

I feel very much that this was majorly just to play around with the CR 2.0.

For hours.

And hours.

**bleep**. I guess this really is a case where you could get your Security T-shirt from the collector, then take a Sharpie and write:

I participated in the MxO Anniversary Event and all I got was this
SECURITY
T-Shirt

It is true, it would have been nice to see something else for the ending.  I believe everyone thought that the hours of Sleepwalker killing / lightswitch-flipping were just a buildup to some grand ending.  I was very disappointed with the ending, and not just because my character is a Sleepwalker ...

However, outside of the letdown ending .. I felt the event was very well done.

I will have to agree with your sentiments.
I have been playing this game since beta, and have been through some events that were fantastic, and then some events where I had to ask myself, what the purpose of the event was.

This is by far, the largest mishap of an "event" if we should choose to call it that. As you said, there was nothing involved, other than putting up with the pestering nusiance that became the sleepwalkers, and the 7+ hours of chasing down the security teams, with no end result to show for it.

I love CR 2.0, and for that I'm glad we got to play this time with it, but we were promised something mindblowing as a dedication to  our year + of support for the development team and everything it has had to offer the player base in MxO.

I love this game, don't get me wrong, I've played other MMO's but always seem to come back to MxO, there's a reason for that, but as a player who spends his hard earned money and expects something when promised, I feel extremely cheated by this event. As someone in Tabor Park said after the Architecht thanked us, "I participated in the MxO anniversary event, and all I got was this stupid t-shirt."

Unless something miraculous happens after I've made this post, I will contend, that the best times I ever had in MxO, came before SOE was put in charge of things. Anyone remember the end of beta event?

Yeah I had some fun with it no doubt. I wasn't really expecting too terribly much though. Just going off my past experiences. I do have to say though that our events now aren't really close to being on par with what the LET used to do at launch. Those were some amazing events.

I bet if they somehow managed to make each event on par with the End of Beta event... they'd be making a whooooole lot of money. :smileysurprised:

Actually there was something of a Boss Battle on Vector, when Mr. Meters in Kaede decided to Health Sploit himself repeatedly.  You could tell he was getting desperate when he started yelling random Cypherite things at us.

I'll add this... the fact that fighting the fighting spawns and turning lights on/off went on all day long is NOT a bad thing.  That enables as many folks as possible to get in on it.

The bad thing was that there was nothing else SMILEY

No, people weren't able to get in on it. If you weren't of a higher level, or with a group of friends that were a higher level (thank god for my faction mates), you couldn't do anything.

Jack in, lag out, dead before lag clears.
Rinse. Repeat.

<--- Level 20.  Had a BIG helping hand in defeating Ms. Walls, Ms. Osbourn, and Mr. Meters. Only got ganked once by some *CENSORED* Cypherite, and got to chat with a BluePill Meters after the event ended.

Try that.
