This is a sad, sad day.  I was just starting to get into his books too.  From the sound of it, the series will continue without him, since he dictated his plot lines to other writers before passing.  I really have a lot of respect for someone that cares that much about his story and his readers to make a contingency plan in the event that he passes on.

I've just heard about this as well, it is truly a sad day.  He was a great writer and his works will be sorely missed.
