I've just come into the possession of a Radeon X800 XT graphics card. I'm just wondering if it is better or worse than my current card. My current card is a nVidia GeForce 7600GT. I'm not very savvy when it comes to ATI - nVidia comparisons.

Also, there are no markings to say it but near the serial number on the back it says X800 PE 256MB. Does that mean its the Platinum Edition?

Thanks

but... all I found was this for the other one:

In this review PCstats is testing one of Asus's flagship Radeon videocards, the AX800XT/TVD. Built on the extremely popular ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition VPU, I'm sure you can already guess that the benchmark results are going to be fast... like hella-fast! ATI offload the production of their graphics processors to TSMC's now aging 0.13 micron manufacturing process, and each one of these little slabs of silicone contains a full 160 million transistors. Backing those 160 million transistors is 256MB of Samsung 1.6ns DDR-3 memory, clocked at 1.12 GHz. The Asus AX800XT/TVD retails for about $724 CDN ($583 USD).

PS. I dont know why the shizzle I'm typing all the way over here.

Sorry I'm not much use,

Just a couple of quick thoughts:

First, check your motherboard's chipset.  If it is an Nvidia or ATI Chipset, the matching video card chipset will probably run with fewer problems. For XP, hold the Windows key and tap the Pause key, (Windows key is between Ctrl and Alt; Pause key is to the right of PrtScrn and ScrollLock, usually far top/right of a keyboard) click Hardware tab, click Device Manager button, click the + to the left of the words System Devices.  If you have Nvidia or ATI chipset, several entries in the list will have the brand name.

Second, you can benchmark your current setup with 3DMark.

The 2006 free home edition is here:

http://www.3dmark.com/download/3dmark06/

Try to get as few services and processes (system tray, background tasks and programs) as are truly needed before running the benchmark.  The score will give you a generalized overview of the performance of your card with your overall hardware.  Then get some screenshots in MxO with /netstats running to get an idea of how your card is performing on the specific task; we all know nothing is more important than how MxO runs!

Now, install the other card and the best drivers for it, then repeat the 3DMark benchmarking and compare scores, and compare /netstats MxO FPSs.  Be sure to follow all safe computing procedures when installing hardware and video cooling devices; no one can be held responsible for anything resulting from any information posted here.

Heh, I never knew about that shortcut to the computer properites before.

Will have to remember it. SMILEY

Had a quick look on the ATI/AMD website and if you've got the Part Number for it (starts with 102) you can look the product up here. Psion's way will probably be the best way to compare though. SMILEY
