Dear John Smedley;

I do not have an idea what exactly it is that You do. I am guessing that You call a Lot of Board Meetings, Talk to People about Future Projects that SOE would like to tackle, Do Paperwork and write blogs. I suppose that You keep very busy doing such things and that You get payed quite a bit for the work that You do. You have a lofty position and because of this, You are disconnected from the people who pay your salary.

It is perfectly acceptable to me that You are disconnected from the actual gamers who subscribe to station.com. But when there is an ongoing problem with how soe treats the games that it has on station.com, I hope it is acceptable to You for someone like me to write about it.

When SOE bought The Matrix Online from Monolith. A Majority of Gamers became scared that they would ruin the game and for good reason. What they did to Star Wars Galaxies made a lot of gamers angry.

Upon purchasing MXO, SOE started revamping the Combat in the game in order to improve playabilty. That was a good thing but the game has been disrespected by SOE ever since. It lacks Developers, There is no Animation Department and Lack of Content in the game is due to having a skeleton staff.

SOE's tagline is "WE HAVE YOUR GAME" but it should be "WE HAVE YOUR GAME and WE GOING TO RUIN IT

I would like to request one thing. I request that  You look into MXO and find out why it doesnt have enough developers to run it, no animation department and when are we going to recieve serious upgraded content?

I mean to request that MXO recieve additional funding, more staff so as to provide better and more quality content, and Advertising! I do not see SOE doing this. If They are not going to spend money to take care of this game, then I request that they kill it.

 Thank You for Your Attention

You request that they kill it?

Yeah, that'll make you real popular around here.

Look, the amount of money invested in this game is directly proportionate to the amount of money it might possibly generate in the future. Good business sense would tell you that if there is nothing to spark the general publics interest (e.g. another Matrix movie), there is no reason to expect an increase in subs. It's no secret that MxO has the least amount of active accounts of all the games in SOE's stable.

I appreciate what you're doing though. Just know that it has been done to death already. We are where we are and SOE is not going to change that. Hell, the Wachowski Bros aren't even going to change that.

EDIT: Oh, and before you say something wise like "Thank you, John" in reply to this response to your open letter, just know that John Smedley has never posted on any SOE forum. At least none that I've heard about.

actually

what i really would like to see happen is not what i would put in the letter at all

LOL

since you are probably right, he will never read this or respond to this at all

actually i think that a company is truly run from the bottom up. all companies have their customers and the customers dictate what happens or doesnt happen. ceo's, president's and all the people that surround them get payed an obscene amount of money and they are so disconnected from the product that the company they are ceo or president of, they are in every sense worthless.

i think that soe would be better off without john smedley and the people that surround him.

they should all be fired, and use the money they are sucking out of the company and put it back into the company to upgrade the products they produce.

in soe terms, the developers, animators, and game makers will get the profits with out it going to people who are not directly involved in said games.

u feel me?

Negative.

PROTIP: Letters work better when sent to the person in question, not posted on a forum they probably never read.

I do. But you you gotta understand, there are 10 John Smedley's waiting in line to take his spot if he were to leave.

Ideally, you would be right and customers would be the driving force behind what a company does. Funny thing is, though, customers tend to vote on a company's policies with their wallets. If the product is good, new, popular, and makes the consumer's life better, they will generally buy it. But every product has a life cycle (Introduction, Growth, Plateau, Decline) and, unfortunately, MxO is in the decline stage. I think it was probably initially designed with a five-year life span, although how the hell they figured to pay a full dev team plus the Live Events Team is beyond even my imagining.

In any case, it is demand that dictates how much money a company is willing to invest in product development. And the Matrix franchise just isn't in demand anymore.

Some of the guys in Viral actually work in the industry now from what I have gathered its the entire industry now just not SOE.

I used to grow up thinking I wanted to break into the gaming industry its things like this that make me glad I'm just a consumer 90% of the people you deal with in it now just have this vile hatred for gaming I cant even understand or they come at you like a avon lady with their BS like you can't see through it.

At the end of the day though its a living he's no different than you or me just a guy doing a job. It's a shame his job is to play damage control for alot of damage though.

Hmph, Vangaurd. Figures.
Actually Smedley posts every now and then (or used to). At a site called eq2rants. However the site itself has found Volunteer Mods for the games to be passing info to there friends via that site. The only time I remember when he made a direct post on something was the whole merge or work with the new EQ2 Station Exchange thing. And for any other games that use the station exchange stuff.

Funny how he posted it wont happen but then a week later it happened. Money is such a powerful thing. <_<

I disagree.  In any case, I disapprove of this thread.  Levelling an ultimatum at a company CEO is not the way to improve our situation.
