The first I heard of it was this morning--this will only be happening today, the launch day for the Pirates CSG Online. On the other hand, all profits from the game today will be going to Child's Play, so if you're at all interested in online strategy games, today's the day to check it out.

I was this close to reporting Sony for SPAM when I got the pirates message. Maybe we should all /ccr SOE for SPAM...or everytime there's a Live Event, we can randomly interrupt whatever roleplay is going on with our own advertisements....

Ghost: I'm picking up another signal this way...
Me: We're right behJOIN THE FURIOUS ANGELS TODAY!!! BUY OUR MERCHANDISE AT HALF OFF!!! STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOUUUUUUUUU! FOLLOW THE ANGEL.ORGind you. Let's head out!

What about Wendy's? I'm a lot more open to billboards if they would actually work correctly. What do I mean?

Distance does not affect volume, so it's just ON or OFF (at least when it initially comes on). So it suddenly, out of nowhere, blares at you full volume. That's right...

FULL VOLUME. Your in-game volume controls do not seem to affect the billboards. Whether you have your volume at half or full, the billboard will still suddenly come on full out, covering any other sound coming from your computer.

Whoa, after reading this I'm actually glad I still see "Advertisement for rent" everywhere.

What are you guys talking about? I had loads of fun today with the Live event called "The Hunt for the Pirates". I went down to Ikebekuro and i saw a few Pirate ships, so i boarded one of them and asked around for the missing captian. I went on a journey to a far away land called Never land and I fought some pirate captian called Hook.

I finished him off with my bare hands and my new Iron Pony gloves that i picked up from the Iron Pony store. I was a bit hungry so i went to Burger king and picked up a Whopper of a deal, and I got one of them neato xbox games. I then took a hardline to some space station where I meet a fellow named Yoda. I told him of my journey and he said i won the internets.

All because of this advertisment, my day was fullfiled. /twothumbs way way up.

I was runnin' about in Kedemoth with my luggable when suddenly a Wendy's Ad destroyed my sensitive squirrely ears! I was so stunned that I walked right up to a bunch of EPN and practically said "Gank me!"

You know how sensitive our ears are! I pay 15 bucks to GET AWAY FROM THE REAL WORLD AND ITS PROBLEMS. I don't want the tyrannical capitalists infringing on my rights to play a video game...again!

All I want, here, is a simple promise, a statement if you will, that this will NEVER happen again.

Well, thats good to hear Walrus. Though next time perhaps a bit of warning that SOE will be doing this would go a long way. I think by now its obvous we of the MXO community dont like surprises like these.

On a side note, can we do something about those annoying movie ad's for wendy's and the like? They are serously annoying considering that they loop constantly with nothing in between them. Hell, can you find out if something like a loop every minute or something could be done? Its really, really annoying hearing: "Stuck in the middle with you!" While shooting at yeti's...

Uhm... just out of curiosity... Why do i only see "Ad space for rent" on any billboard ingame?
Apparently that's not like it for everyone anymore...

(just came back after absence since beta, and we didnt have any of these mentioned ads going)

Walrus... man... did you completely miss the point of this thread? No offense but after reading the posts before yours I think the community of MxO are feeling alittle spit upon or dissed by this advertisment. If I want to be a pirate I'll go to Blockbuster or Hollywood video and rent Pirates of the Carribean. Please don't do this IN GAME again. Me, personally I felt like you wre saying "Hey come check out this new game of ours because we don't give a *CENSORED* about MxO since we bought it from Monolith." I mean... just when I think SOE is picking up with content/storylines, they pull this. Like others have said, it's almost as if you're trying to hint us to cancel our accounts... so that SOE doesn't have to go throuh the trouble of making an "in-game end". Probably with the sky looking funny and near the end we get meatwadded.

Walrus,

I understand that this was for a good cause...Child's Play is a great cause and I hope that this advertisement does help them out.

But I think that we're more concerned that this opened the door to more of these advertisements in the future. It doesn't seem like a "one time use" only situation. For this situation I'm willing to have it flash on my screen, but in the future anything else wouldn't be worth it (unless it was to pay for LET in which I would have it on the screen 24/7...seriously).

The door has been open...will it stay open or be closed forever?

My thoughts exactly. The fact that this is going to a childrens charity makes a difference to me. If your company can generate money to give to those less fortunate over a four second add than so be it.

However doing this for profits that will most likely not go back into the improvement of the game is wrong.

This type of thing ruins the immersion of the game. In SL it's fine, not here.
