On the STO Devlog released on December 4th, the devs talked more about how players will interact with NPC's and other environmental objects, and posted the first in-game screenshot.

That is one very pretty screenshot. Now if they'd tell you the specs of the computer it was taken on.

However, there are two things I notice that I take issue with:

1. The ship looks way too much like the Enterprise... And I bet that's how most of them are going to end up looking for one reason or another. (I don't know much at all about Star Trek so if that's some sort of standard fleet ship or something, I wouldn't know)

2. The alien guy in the mission box looks very cartoony. To the point where it doesn't seem to fit in with the very real-looking screenshot and universe.

...And this strikes me as looking a lot like Star Wars Galaxies plus Jump To Lightspeed with some special angling and graphics tuned way up. The real test of the game's space engine is how much fun it is travelling those 50,000 lightyears from planet to planet with nothing to do but push the throttle to the max and sit back.

The Anticipation for STO is what made me pick up EVE online. I wanted a space game to hold me over until its release. lol

Yeah, it is something of a tradition to have the "saucer-front, Engines-back" design that we've had since the original series.  Here's a link that shows all the Enterprise's.

But, it's probably not going to end up like that. While all starships in the Star Trek universe use variations on that design, there is wiggle-room.  The USS Defiant from DS9 and the Norway and Steamrunner-class starships.

And here's another concept drawing they did for STO, the Sacagawea-class. I'm guessing it'll be a shuttle or scout-class ship.

The way I understand it, everyone will have thier own small scout class ship of some sort that they can use at any time. Then later you can "join a starship ship" similar to joining a faction or a crew in MxO. How the assignment of starships works, I dunno.

As for the style of the ships, yea they all have the same basic layout almost, like Arch said. But the smaller ships have alot of variation.

Here is a link to what kinda ships exist in the ST universe. Theres TONS, but it also includes other races as well.

From Wikipedia's Star Trek Online Page:

"The final list of playable races has not yet been announced; current candidates include Human, Vulcan, Klingon, Bajoran, Bolian, Cardassian, Ferengi, Tellarite and Andorian."
