I am completely for the merg and think it would be the best thing for MXO.

Simple solution for SOE... here you go.   Virtulise onto a NAS box.  Bang all servers on one physical box.

I did mean the servers en masse; they'd be merging complex databases. But I agree. If SOE put its mind to it and used its resources they could certainly accomplish something this complex. I don't see them lending MxO any help, though. We'd have Dracomet and 9mm fiddling with the database, and maybe a couple of CSRs to iron over the resulting wrinkles.

Yes it does. You're asking for merg because there's no one playing on your server anymore, when being rude to new players and pushing them over to the other servers could be your reason for a dead server.

You are generalizing, not everyone are the same. Some people from Syntax are rude too, and many are nice... cant jugde everyone for the action of others.

No, I'm not. I said it does have something to do with the topic when you said it didn't.

Its silly to enter in arguments like "most people over Recursion are rude", cause that has NOTHING to do with what we were discussing here. Keep in mind, lots of people you find in Recursion are in Syntax too, so by saying Recursionites are rude, you are saying that about people in Syntax too. People are rude no matter the server, and nice no matter the server. We are ALL MXO, 98% of us have characters on the 3 servers... its not like "Uh im logging to Syntax let me be nice now". We all are the Community of this game. So please lets not start silly arguments like that.

Is that what you dont understand Gerik?...just in case im refering to the highlighted part of her post.

And where did I say anything about Recursion?

The only times I see hostility toward a player from another server is when they come across claiming to be the dog's nuts and mouthing off. Are they seriously expecting a welcome hamper?

I hear you there!  God forbid SOE should help the illegitimate lovechild!?

To be honest, yes they probably are (The mouthy people that is).

I have no idea how things work under the hood, but I bet it would be simpler if SOE offered the ability to transfer a character.  Let everyone have more slots on either server, but then be able to choose to move their RSI to the other box.

So then the question becomes, how often would you be allowed to move a character?  You wouldn't want anyone abusing it by griefing someone on Syntax and running off to Recursion...then showing back up again to hit and run.

Just a thought.

If a paid transfer option is offered, I would ideally want to know that any money arising from its use would stay within MxO. I'm all for supporting our game and our development team, but I'd rather not pay extra just to have the money funneled away to one of SOE's other games while we continue to get very little in the way of support from them.

I was never for a merge, but Recursion is a ghost town.

We really need a merge.

The simple, sad truth, is that all servers are a ghost town at specific times of day. I don't think a merge is really the most productive answer here. I do think they could try increasing the number of available character slots per server. Either to 5 or 6, allowing, once again, for character transfers for those that want to do it.

However, the most productive thing right now, would be for SOE to actively seek to increase the number of players, either returning or new. Sadly, it doesn't look like they want to spend that sort of budget on this game.

As to merging down to one server with forced PVP zones? I'd cancel again, right there and then, and never look back.

Alot of us have more then one level 50, a once every so many years character transfer with the option of a name change would be sic.

Thats why many have proposed Syntax and Recursion to be merged as they are similar, so you have NewMergedServer + Vector, 2 servers, 2 rulesets.

Server migration is actually a lot simplar than you would imagine.. especially if you can virtualise first.

Well in my experience that is.  I doubt very much that game servers would be different from say the servers i maintain.

I doubt it would be even remotely as simple as a typical server migration. They wouldn't be moving groups of files or entire databases from one machine to another; they'd be moving select chunks of data from within a fragile database into another fragile database. Then updating some sort of master MxO database with new values, and finally propagating that up to the master SOE server (for chat and the like).

They did it before. The previous merge was 3 sets of 3 servers being merged. This would be another set of 3 going into 1.

I like Ingus' idea of making Richland/International "normal" zones and making Westview/Downtown "forced PVP for lv16+" like Vector. Or a similar, fair idea.

I'd think it would make event planning a tad easier on Rarebit.
