They've got some wishful thinking over there it appears they're hoping to get our "Devs" and Virrago. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/...topic_id=925382

I wish I could reply to them so bad. Tell them they can have all 0 of our Devs. They also seem to hate Rajin for some reason.

I have SWG accounts. I can reply there. And I think they're being extremely positive, watching one movie based IP title get shut down...with the massive problems SWG's had since its release, frankly as a former SWG player myself...I'm extremely nervous about the status of SWG post SWTOR's release. Looks to me like SoE is cutting "the fat" as it were. And if they'll terminate MxO, they'll terminate SWG too eventually should it fail to return on its license costs. Ooo and then all we have left is a broken shooter game, a hacked pirate game, that debacle Vanguard, and Everquest. Joy of joys...the industry will be so well served by this. Lets just continue to reinforce the market standard of elves and dragons on everyone. Lets not make an effort to try to do anything original in the industry...why bother...all the original concepts have failed in the face of elves and dragons. I'm sick at heart today because of this, not because MxO is my favorite game of all time or anything, but because it is a sad evidence of the state of the industry as a whole...and that the industry may never, ever reach its true potential of ever offering a multitude of genres and content variants in a successful fashion.

It's quite possible that interest would dip down when that next Star Wars MMO is released. Luckily for SWG that's probably still a couple years away.

Hey someone who is subbed to SWG please tell them we appreciate their condolences and well wishes. I'm serious. (After all, we are both in the Brotherhood of Neglected SOE MMO's). And this guy's post is sheer brilliance. A must read. EDIT: Sadly enough, there is another thread full of jerks gloating (fortunately smaller). Well the laughs will be on them, theyre next in line for termination right behind PS.

i wouldnt exspect planetside to be on the chopping board. my gut feeeling says this closure is a combination of the drop off in subs making it no longer cost effective to pay the ip rights and the negative impact of running the ip in to the ground has againast future/current products

Meh, the forums these topics were posted in are full of jerks generally, don't let it bother you. I dabbled a bit in MxO a while ago (which is why I have the forum account here), but most of my gaming time is occupied by SWG, so I didn't do much here. But it sucks for you guys, no doubt about it. On the other hand, from the quick skimming over topics I've done here, it looks like most of you knew it was coming. And since someone mentioned people over there are taking it rather positively (i.e., in regards to SWG itself, not MxO), I would say from what I heard about MxO, that SWG is in much better shape both in terms of subscriber base and development time it receives. All false hopes aside, I would predict it will be a while before it gets shut down as well.

I'm saddened by this news. I'm primarily a long-time SWG player who jumped on MxO before I it happily becamne part of the Access pass, and I've occasionally jacked in to check out the goings-on ever since. Matrix Online's biggest win was it's community, closely followed by the work put into the ongoing storylines. Even when I wasn't playing, I'd be reading these forums to get the latest news on in-game events in Broadcast Depth, particularly the supported ones that contributed to an ongoing story. Visionary stuff, and a great drawcard for any MMO. A toast to you, MxO - all players past and present.
