I have a 1920x1200 res monitor but often want to run mxo in a window, sadly the only resolutions offered are 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 (both of which truncate to fit in a window) before falling to 1366x1024.......

I notice some people are able to work in intermediate resolutions like 1650x1050 and 1440x900....

is there a way I can get my copy of mxo to offer these resolutions to run in?

Hello Tytanya_MxO,

While you cannot really modify the game to allow these resolutions as options in the in-game Options menu, you can change the configuration files to launch the game in your resolution. Not all resolutions will work, and you will want to make a copy of this file before changing anything, to revert back to if something fails to work properly.

That being said, go to your Matrix Online game directory (usually C:\Program Files\Monolith Productions\The Matrix Online\ or C:\Program Files\Sony
\Matrix Online).

Locate the file "useropts.cfg". Make a copy of this file, and place it somewhere convenient. You will need to do the same for the file "options.cfg" as well. Open this program with a text editor (like Notepad). It should default to this program if you double-click on it, but you may need to select Notepad from the list of programs if CFG files have not yet been associated to a text editor.

Look for the section "# Screen resolution" and make your changes to the height and width. You should probably leave the colordepth alone. You will also need to remove the "#" from the beginning of ScreenHeight and ScreenWidth, to make these new settings take effect.

#ScreenBitDepth = 32
ScreenHeight = 1144
ScreenWidth = 1920

The settings above assume that you want to run the game in a window that takes up the entire screen. The title bar at the top of the window is typically 20 pixels, and the taskbar at the bottom of the Desktop is usually sized in factors of 32 pixels (32 for a single-height task bar, 64 for a double-height task bar, etc.). If you have a single height taskbar, and you have the standard 20 pixel title bar, then the resolution above should fill the entire remaining portion of the desktop with the game.

Make sure you have also set the game to run in Windowed mode. This can be done in the file "options.cfg". Locate the line that reads Windowed = 0 and change the 0 to a one. If the line is already = 1 then leave it be. If the line does not exist at all, add it to the bottom of the file. Save the settings and close Notepad.

Your mileage may vary, and you may need to test different resolutions a bit to see what works best for your setup.
