ESA announced today that E3 will not be what it was last year.  Now, instead of the large trade-show environment of the previous years, it will be a small, intimate gathering to display the latest games.  Instead of the estimated 60,000 people in attendance last year, ESA states that their new format will bring in merely hundreds of attendees.  ESA believes that this is what is needed for the new entertainment industry.  When E3 was started, it was to promote the industry for the holiday season, but now that everyone is aware the games exist, that's not what they need anymore.

Personally, I've never been to an E3, but it's been one of my dreams to go at some point and with this new format I'll never get to see the grandeur of what E3 used to be.  SMILEY

im not surprised with the way things are with the internet game trailers been posted on all sites really now i mean the only way to show the games there would be demos's but some way i think thats bad cause people tend forget  the games are still being made and can be changed and if some one plays a demo at e 3 they will say oh i thought it was bad but then a game can most of the time signifally change between now and then

Bah, I was waiting to venture off to an E3 when I was done with college and set myself up with a stable job and income, but now it seems I will never see the E3 the way it's meant to be seen, and I am sure it's going to be harder to get in now. SMILEY

I'm one of the people who wants to go to E3 one day... And this 'new format' is definitely a mistake. They'll see soon enough when no one cares about what happens in the next one.

Or... We'll see. All I've got to say is that it's no good.

Although, one good thing has come out of this, perhaps.  Instead of having to wait a year to hear news about upcoming games, this is supposed to cause more information more frequently instead of it all being released at E3.

But that just helps the people who didn't want to go to E3 and just get the news back and hurts the people who cared about E3.

But whatever.  E3 can do what it wants, but I have a feeling that it will be back to it's original style in '08.

...I can dream.

That's big business for ya. If they have nothing to gain then Fvck everyone else. That includes you SOE cause you probably pulled out also.
