When MxO was developed, physics engines in MMOs were close to non-existent, handling only the super-obvious. Now they're more common, but still, the majority of MMos don't actually have a great engine, just something that fakes it (a lot of MMOs' so-called "physics engines" are just animations to mimic physics).

I am almost sure that is what they have done with WoW, but it is a wonder why they never did that with the Trench coats in MxO, it is the most obvious thing that it should have been done with.

I remember this being asked a long long time ago. And one of the Devs (Can't remember who.) Said something along the lines as. "It would be if the client side would be able to deal with it." That's why they didn't do it or something. But don't hold me to that, I could be thinking of something else. Was a long time ago. =P

I would be quite happy with some form of flexibility even if just in free movement mode because I dont really take a major focus in the animation during pvp/interlock anyways its the keys and damage etc you take a notice of so I wouldnt really notice a ripple in a coat then, but when you are grinding archives or searching the city I think a bit of movement would be cracking! Even if it wasnt nessicarily a engine of sorts even just an animation for the trenches/coats to have some different movements to that of what your legs are doing! lol!

The Engine MxO uses has no physics component. Any thing you think is using physics isn't. And generally speaking physics in the engine has to be integrated into the overall engine very early in the project's life cycle, putting one in after the fact simply isn't cost effective or really feasible. Trench coats were done the way they were because there was no cloth technology available really at the time the game was under development or that technology was in its infancy at the time in relation to video games. Also remember just because a set of developers do something doesn't mean that technique is spread wide and far.

Thanks for the info 9mm. So is it an absolute impossibility that any kind of animation could be rendered for the clothing even if just for out of Interlock? pwease?

Ra2za there is a difference between improbably and impossible, at least in my mind. In the current engine I think it highly improbable that what you are asking for even out of interlock could or would be done.
