I think that the analogy Walrus made that pre-patch Coding was like getting double your money back is flawed.

Think of it more like priming a pump.  You are putting a small
amount of water into the pump that will then allow you to pump many
gallons for the small initial investment.  Eventually you have to
re-prime
the pump but until then, you get a better return on it.  The idea
of coding a recipe that will work for a while until you have to recode
it fits very well into the whole Matrix theme.  Data streams can
be tapped and superhuman abilities can be manifested and the very
fabric of the Matrix can be bent to the will of the player.  Why
not create code that uses the very data that is flowing around us to
create new items.  The argument made it sound like we coders were
getting something for nothing.  However, that point of view does
not factor in the time and effort and $Info investment we make to have
those skills.

No matter how you cut it, Coding alone is not going to get you to Level
50.  If you look at the $Info it takes to level up coding, and
look at the Experience you get for coding things, there is no way that
Coding can work as a career path.  You MUST be something else.  And
yet the devs have chosen to 'balance' things by slowing down this
secondary skill set?  It seems as though the balance-point is
randomly set.

What troubles me most is that this came out of the blue.  There
are plenty of discussions on Hackers and Spies and Knife Throwers but
there was nothing mentioned in the Feedback threads about Coding
changes and balancing issues.  Actually, there WAS discussion about coding but that
focused on AutoStacking.  These latest changes seem to have been
thrown into the patch without due diligence.

I cannot agree more, weaselgrrl. Really looks like the devs (or designers, whoever) dropped the ball on this one.

Yeah it's strange when 'balancing' issue are pushed out in patches that NO-ONE sees as unbalanced!
