I will ask the compat lab if they have any information on incompatibilities with Creative products and the game. I'll let you know what I find out.

Bump.
Sound effects work - Music does not - Tried all the suggestions in this thread so far.
I need an answer to this question as well since I haven't had music since installation. I just returned to this game after a year to see if it got any better, I only played for a month before quitting and I'm not hesitant to quit again if something as simple as music playing can't be addressed. I've read posts in this thread from people who've been asking this question for a number of months it seems still without an answer. I'm not keen on continuing to spend my money on a disfunctional product, fix please.

Compat lab has no known issues with Creative cards. Have you tried adjusting the Sound Acceleration in your DXDIAG (Start->Run->DXDIAG->Sound tab) up or down to see if it makes any difference?

Bump for the sake of finding a solution. I just started playing this game and I am having exactly the same problem that everyone here is describing. Sound effects work fine but no music. I've done everything suggested in this thread with no luck. The codecs menitoned in the " No music issue fixed" thread doesn't help me because I have all the codecs in the right places in my Windows folder. I also don't have any special sound codec packs installed. Is there any word on a fix for this perhaps from SOE? Message Edited by Stormviper on 03-08-200608:39 PM

It's possible you have a codec with the same name, but a different version. MetaSin or Faithlessness care to send me the exact codec that youa re using? I can put it in the KB as a download, with instructions for placing it in the correct directory.

That would be awsome if one of those two could share with us what codec version they are using. :smileyhappy:

Faithlesness, if you could go to your Windows/system32 directory, and locate l3codecp.acm Right-click on this file and choose Copy, and then Paste it onto the Desktop. When you've found it, shoot me a PM and I'll give you an e-mail address to send it to me.

Having the same problem - also with an Audigy 2 (LS in this case)
Used my onboard sound before - no problems - switched to the Audigy and music disappeared.

OK, I have fixed my no music issue, and I think this may be a definitive way for most if not all others can use to fix this problem. First, download Windows Media Player 10 from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx, and reinstall WMP10 (or install it for the first time if you still have a previous version). Then download this registry file from http://www.looprecorder.de/l3codecp.reg. Once you have the file downloaded, run it and click Yes to add it to the registry. What this registry file does is registers the l3codecp.acm with Windows by adding the following keys/values: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32] "msacm.l3acm"="l3codecp.acm" "msacm.l3codec"="l3codecp.acm"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers.desc] "l3codecp.acm"="Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (professional)"
The l3codecp.acm is the codec used for mp3 playback, and for whatever reason, WMP10 doesn't properly register it with Windows when it is installed, hence no music in MxO. Why MxO is sensitive to this and other games are not, I do not know. But this worked for me, and I hope it works for everyone else. Good luck!

Any feedback on this fix would be very welcome. Please let us know how it works for you. Please only try these steps if you are actually missing music in the game.

YES - MUSIC IS BACK - PRAISE THE LORD - HALLELUJAH!
Thx so much - all it took for me actually was the registry tweak

That's cool, Miggesch. Glad it worked. The reason I suggested reinstalling WMP10 first is so that people can be sure that they have the latest version of the codec. Obviously, if you already have it, then just the reghack will do the trick. Have fun! :smileyhappy:
