I think a compulsory present for all subscribers would be cool like the awakened glasses could be a new texture like a ULTRA sharp and bright texture called ''Rarebit's Glasses'' or ''Rarebit's Coat''
Ahhh thinking aloud here just think we need something to mark the date and the event.
After all who doesnt want the awakened shades and the jacket.... Some ppl coz they arent stupid enough to recylce the frag...... *kicks himself*
Well... Hopefully we are still here in a few weeks/months.
The countdown is on....
Is it inevitable?

THUMBS UP!
I WILL TAKE A PAIR OF FLASHING STROBE LIGHT GLASSES OR SOMETHING WACKY!
I kind of get the feeling that MxO and Planetside will be going bye-bye when DC Universe and the Agency come out.
Roll on SOE Free To Play legacy titles =P
For me, I'm just going to continue as before and focus on playing the game... I've got some irons in the fire for player events and ideas, which I hope to bring to the anvil soon...

WALRUS! we need an awnser.
Darn straight. I'd like to hear some words from the man himself and what the plans are for MxO.
You know.. as much as I love MxO, I can't see me continuing on playing. The main draw for me was the story, even the reduced amount was still keeping me subbed. Now, if I'm honest.. with the loss of the only guy remaining who gave the game some substance, it's simply a waiting game for SGW or STO or something.
But hey, while Ben's leaving is sad news, I have a baby daughter on the way so my days of spending as much time in an MMO were coming to an end anyway.
I'll be sticking around yet to see exactly what happens, but yeah the Sun is finally setting on the MxO era.

I would second that!
What's next? Hmm, let's view this from the neutral, aka obvious view.
Update's still coming out. Wouldn't update a game planned for cancellation.
While Rarebit was probably the biggest cog in the MxO Dev machine, he definitely was not the only one, although judging from a severe lack of communication, it's hard to tell if 9mmfu isn't just extremely busy now that his workload is that much greater or if he's also quit. Either way, somebody has to run the show... right? Might be a low-paid intern hired on just to handle basic grunt work of updating mission content. Could be nobody, and this last update will be The last update, after which corporate bigwigs will wait for the community to slowly die out due to lack of anything before they can safely pull the plug.
Rarebit's depature, while sad, was foreseeable (and extremely obviously going to happen), and whatever plans he's left behind are sure to be followed, and when those are run out, we'll all see what we'll do then. We move on, like always.
To be honest, I don't see why the game can't continue. Merge the servers. Hire an intern to do the occasional retexture and unrelated side story quest ala normal MMOs, leave a community rep to pimp player run events and storylines and there ya, Free to Play Legacy title in the bag
I can see MxO continuing with a part time dev providing the small fixes for stuff, but with Rarebit intending on leaving us the planned story of how it was supposed to wrap up I don't think I can trust anyone except possibly someone with a burning, in depth understanding of the Matrix, to make even unrelated quests let alone continue the story.
At the moment all I can see, with a heavy heart, is PvP and player RP and while these 'secret' items Rarebit mentioned may allow for RP to flourish again for a while, the lack of official story isn't likely to keep people subscribed in the long run and as the population slowly decreases so will the RP and eventually the PvP too.
Being free to play may extend MxO's life a bit longer, but nothing lasts forever.
As I said, I'll be keeping my eye on MxO, I really do hope it continues and doesn't stagnate.
*wonders if SOE Austin is hiring coders/interns not afraid to touch the database...*

Wouldn't do ya a lot of good, MxO is set in Seattle, lol.
Well I see the big man has joined us, the next post by Walrus is really going to lay it right out on the table and, I would imagine, influence quite a lot of people's decisions.
