Why do people send me tells when they stand well within Area Chat range, /who shows no one else in the neighborhood, and the subject matter is by no means private?

Reminds me of those humorous "Why are we whispering?" scenes in some stories.

People do this to me as well, I don't get it.

I'd have to theorize it's one of these:

1. Secrecy
2. Stupidity
3. Habit
4. Glossophobia (Fear of public speaking)
5. Making sure they stand out and get your attention
6. Love of double-clicking on people's last message
7. Loneliness

One senario(sp) is when rp ing and you wanna speak with someone ooc but u dont wanna disrupt the flow

Some people tend to ignore area chat and most have their chat setting so that if they are in faction chat area stuff won't show up, but tells will.

The only problem with people doing that as far as I can see is if they have a long name and you don't want to type it in over and over again especially if it has a mix of letters and numbers.

Most the time people dont always check /who is in area, and mostly its habit.

You can always press R to start writing a /tell back to the one that most recently sent on to you, or you can double click anyones name to before writing the message.
The only instances where I write out the name manually, is if I am initiating the conversation, and the one I am going to speak to, is not in my buddylist, hasn't said anything recently, and I cannot rightclick the person herself. :smileyhappy:

geezus who cares, its just another way of comunicating, i think most poeple change the color of thieir /tells so they stand out, Mine for instance is white, so its very easy to communicate with just one person that way and makes it easier to bypass all the other area chat fodder thats in the chat window.

Why even ask this question, it hurts my brain.

You dont wisper in a traditional sense, you simply talk quietly into your cellphone.
