This question came to me, and wanted to see what everyones thoughts.
What would you rather have?
3 Person LET - 1 Person for each server.
or
A Developer like rarebit balancing creating items and running story.
I would rather have a the LET Team. I could really care less about items. I would like to have a story that I can be involved in, without having to be a part of planning it. The team would have the resources to run events, that they won't give us.
This came on after I was looking through the Archival Science website, looking at old screens. Screens of the Code Rotting Monuments, Morpheus body turning flys, the signs with the coded messages on them, & The Code Shapers. The endless amount of impromptu group and one on one meetings.
The LET team was the best Idea that made this game different from any other game out there. I don't know why SOE scrapped the idea. I know some of you are going to say we still have lesig. But I ask where are they? On recursion I have not seen any of our former liasions and Scanline seems to have gone silent. I honestly can't say that program still exists.
Ive been with this game for 4 years, Ive been through everything, including the limbo of the CR2. I just want to see this game back to where it was and not being the ghosttown its becoming.
Good question... personally, if restricted to the choices presented, I would have to choose #2.
An intelligent balance of both story and achievable content (such as items) would be the best and, as much as I love Live Events it's a known fact that not everyone gets to enjoy them whereas everyone can partake in a system like the old style of Critical Missions.
Of course, I still hold that even a single developer with good time and work management skills could provide all 3: achievable content, an ongoing structered storyline and regular live events.
#1-LET
The game is so stale now since we lost the LET, the way it started out.
It really needs a 3-5 person team on each server doing nothing but events, but there's no way that's gonna happen
I'd go with #2, a developer to advance the story.
While a LET would be awesome too, not everyone could/would make them. The players that aren't able to make them would feel left out. And with people leaving left and right, would you really want to leave anyone out?
And I agree with Shinryu, the developer position for all that stuff would be better if handled by two people. One to concentrate on the story and critical missions, one to concentrate on items, environmental changes and world content.
Awww I want both - Well ok since I gotta choose, I choose then #2. Could always do a Crit Mish to get the story's progression. I'd even had my work day start a little late so I could get the mission done after server restart B4 heading in. Nvr made too many Lives (my timing sucked) and some IMO were a bit lame. The story continuing was the bait that got me to take that pill 1st - although nvr really gave thought that all stories have an END and even the story here had to conclude at some point; then what? (OK, Now it sounds like I'm favouring #1)

#1 I thought the game was stale towards the end when we did have rarebit, but no events. Live events seem to make everyone crawl out at once, making it more fun in my opinion
The problem is Rare dumped the entire "official" storyline for 2009 on us before he left. We do have player events but its not the same. Sorting out all of this out precludes #1 for me.
So yes, #2 all the way!
#2. I like new content and new story.
#2 .... I want new content and storyline.
Definitely a new dev providing new content and storytelling, by far.

#2 would be best since we can make PETs. However, most PETs are pieces of sh*t. Most PETs are poorly run. Most PETs neglect other players and improvisation. I'm hoping to create a couple PETs on Syntax, and the other servers should too. You just can't f*ck around if you really want it to work. No stupid story ideas and no ego trips. Factor in player interaction, and the high potential for unpredictability, to your PETs. People want need more than just a stupid .jpeg showing some code and your event name.
You know what, I wouldn't care. Either one would be wonderful. And I mean going out and buying a sixty pound bottle of chuffing champagne wonderful. If SOE did either one I would bow down and kiss the feet of every member of their board of directors with relief.
