If one desired they could use the Knife Thrower's tree for the Ranged Damaged to increase one's potential with ranged weapons.
Deadly Shot,Disabling Shot and Covering Fire are one timer set while
Crippling Shot and Immobilizing Shot are on another.
Going Sniper With Expert Rifleman adds an extra shot.
Sniper Shot+Disable Shot+Crippling Shot+Free Fire Shot+Deadly Shot
What i have done for my character is completely use all my points into Focus which adds a bit of Viral Deflection allowing one +25 ish VD item while the rest of the gear be dedicated to Range Damage/RCT/Focus/Rifle Damage
I also keep concentration and detection up
Ive beaten some Assassins. Some dont expect to run up and have their agent disguise pop.
Concentration helps with gun battles as well as hacker fights.
Ive always considered the Rifleman as a Support Class. Rooting the runners. Lowering CT with Covering Fire on players outside CC. Stunning Patchers/Hackers. Going more to the front line involves more toughness that usually MAs and some duelists can put out.
When it comes to interlock theres really only about 4 Gunman+ Abilities able to be used in CC.
Disable Shot Covering Fire Three Shot and Rifle Butt Smash.
That isnt a whole lot. If youd like to get a little CC action try mixing Sniper with Gunslinger or Rifleman and Gunslinger. There some abilities that a Gunslinger uses in interlock which nearly perma stun their opponent which is nice.
I can say i am not THE expert
i just get lucky sometimes.
