First - there is a relatively active topic on that in "Developement roundtable" section, no need to do a necro stuff like that. Second - it's been brought up a number of times already.

QuiDormit wrote: Yeah. I imagine SOE meetings go something like a meeting I had at a couple of years ago at my last job. I'll never forget it, because it was incomprehensible to me. (lightly paraphrased to protect the poor useless product and the moron upper management with shady business practices) Boss: "So we need to talk about [product] support." Me: "Wait, you mean people still pay for [product]?" Boss: "Well, yeah. I mean, it's one-of-a-kind. It's the only product that does what it does, so there's a niche market." Me: "But it's antiquated technology! No one even uses pagers any more, do they?" Boss: "We want to get rid of it, but it brings in money, and it's still profitable as long as we don't spend any time on it. We need to essentially stop supporting it in the hopes that people will stop using it. However, we don't want to actively drop it since people are still willing to pay for it. Some people are paying for it and aren't even using the product any more, and it could be a problem for us if they realize that they still pay us every month for something they're not using." Me: "Well, I'm supposed to be the top tier support for it, and I didn't even know it was still in use, so I'd say we have that one nailed down. Still, that seems... off." Boss: "Yeah, you're right. Still, don't spend any man hours working on it if anything comes up. If the server happens to die, we'll at least be done with it." I'd say that accurately describes our current situation, mm?
Accurately enough to make me think you made up the dialogue just for MxO.

With all the huge sympathy I have both for Tranque and Villemar, I don't buy the "I'm not rich, I can't afford" part. Let's see. I live and earn money in Ukraine, which is very far from being the richest country in the world and which is officially the hardest hit by the current economic crisis in Europe. And still, with a relatively small revenue - compared to the US and EU, where even a frankly mediocre job makes people earn twice as much as I do - I can afford paying 15 bucks per month. So no, I won't believe people out there in US or EU can't afford paying 50 cents a day for a game they want to play. In my eyes, it's not a question of possibility/affordability, but a question of willingness. It's quite understandable you may not want to pay this price for a game with no new content. But please, do not say you can't/ because that doesn't sound too honest.

So it's Thursday, server restart day ok. But why don't we even get a message about it in "News and Announcements"? Is even a small announcement too much effort from our administration? Honestly, that suprises me.

We used to get an announcement every week, with or without an update. So it's not that I don't know Thursday is a server restart day, it's just that I happen to notice that change.

I remember Virrago saying not so long ago (but still before Rare's departure) "That is not going to happen" when answering a concern about shutting down MxO. So I completely second Sepet's question.

Speaking of LESIG - it'd be nice to finally see the assembled map from the "Eyes Open"/CoffinsNail event. And to know< where it was supposed to lead.

Yes, as the producer, it does ultimately land on me when things go wrong for MxO. I won't argue that fact or point fingers in other directions. If I inject a bit of humor at this point, it's because I'm disappointed as well--both in the ending of MxO and in not finding ways to change the direction of the game. Is there more I could have done? I'm sure there was. Hindsight can bring things into unfortunate and painful clarity at times. So I try to remember all the good things about this game and it's community and hope to learn from past mistakes so I can do better in the future. Too late for MxO, sadly. But not too late for any future projects I'm responsible for. I wish we could keep at least one server open. The option was looked into, but it wasn't feasible. So we have to retire the game and that makes me immensely sad. I understand the anger completely. Now we just need Keith01 to log on and say "I blame Walrus" to complete the circle. - walrus
Man you're fast. I just found it one minute ago myself and was going to make my previous message null.

Walrus wrote: Hi folks, I understand the confusion for those folks who have resubbed since the email notice went out. We are in discussions about how we're going to deal with the issue and will have an answer for you as soon as possible. Unfortunately, those discussions are taking a bit longer than usual due to key folks being in transit from E3. The answer may not come today, but we are looking into it. Raijiin and Virrago will have an answer as soon as I can get them one. -Walrus
Which means we can get this tread back to the Current News. We're still No. 1!

Even though I didn't have any subscription issue, I want to say "thank you" as well. Your communication was a nice suprise to me. I was especiallly impressed by Raijinn and his tireless answering of each particular question, even though it made him sound like a "broken record".

I kinda have the feeling that xp is not as high as it was before the restart too, but I don't have any solid figures to back that feeling up.
