There isn't but Rarebit said that there would be in-game interaction when the storyline required it.
What storyline?

I realise it would be good for all of us to take a litlle time to calm down after the news we just learned, but I also realise that we can't stop wondering what's coming next for MxO. I, for one, want to stress: I think this game needs an official storyteller. The "storyteller tools" would be nice, a Fanimatrix is not a bad idea either, LESIG is nice, but all of this is secondary. We need a primary official storyline, handled not by the players, but by a SOE-hired person. To me it seems the only way to really keep the story going and not turning into something low-leveled and chaotic. Now that the king is dead we need a new one. I hope SOE realises that and will take care of this issue as fast as possible.

Honestly, I would accept any of the three options we have now: putting the Rare's story in place even though we already know the basic lines, a new direction, or even a fresh start (even though the last option I don't like too much and I hope it won't happen). But we need a devoted man (or woman) - even if I hardly imagine someone as devoted as Rare.
Not to mention that a few more months without a storyline that we now seem almost sure to get is a blow to MxO and it's playerbase anyway. The only option I can't accept is no official story at all.

Because it's not "official," and because event-creating capacities on players' ends are nowhere near those of admin powers, the majority of players will simply no longer care. How many people still interact with LESIG now that they're no longer official? Many, many less. Who follows A:B and that player godmodding Novalis / Ishtar thing? A tiny fraction of the player base. There's a tiny chance that someone will be instated to fill Rarebit's position, but as I think Yas said last night, SOE wouldn't send their best and brightest to MXO. Planetside's deeeead, and got Brewko as a developer. That's not a dig against Brewko, who is cool. But he had no design experience that I know of, and that's what I think we will get if anything at all. Someone who doesn't know the story, tools, or community, and if they make anything it'll make you miss pew pew lazars.
While I can clearly see the strong points in what you say, I hope we'll get something better.

Phrack wrote: It is not some mythic adventure that should be vampire/werewolf-laden, nor is it a comic book to be filled with people who have pew pew laser abilities. Likewise, there is nothing Matrixy about an entourage of wireframe men (and women, I suppose) who have android bodies in the real and have been an uber secret of the Machines since... well... presumably, ever. I'm all for temporary side-stories... it's a big city, there should be tons going on at all times, especially considering the number of bluepills that have awakened over the years. But to move forward with the story, side-stories need to be resolved, and that's all the Oligarchs should have been. The story of the Matrix is about the human/machine war. That is all it's about, and that should be the focus of the story. The best turn the story ever took (post-SOE) was when the Truce broke, at the start of Chapter 8.
To be honest, the Oligarch storyline was one of the most interesting ones for me in this game (contrarily, for example, to the Unlimit storyline, which was sorta lame in my opinion). And I wouldn't say that the story must be exclusively focused on the war - after all, there are such aspects as humans living inside a simulated reality, inside an illusion, you can base a lot of stories on this too. A good story would be a story that makes you understand this universe better and deeper, and that's what the Oligarch storyline did. The war was only one of the key elements even in the Matrix Trilogy, and I can't say I can imagine an eclusively war-based storyline not getting repetitive in a very short period of time. Focus the story on the war would mean abandon all the creative approach MxO needs. We have to explore, to learn things, not just having some war-time activities like fighting, spying, getting info about the enemies etc.

At this point I very much see the canonical story as over. I don't expect them to hire anyone new to carry it on, especially given the level of detail and experience Rare was putting into the job. It'd just be too hard to follow up on. Not to mention there must be some sort of legality and red tape getting to have creative control over an IP like this.
No, the official story is over. Give the players, everyone, not just a select few, the power to make their own stories in the context of the game, not of the story.
I will disagree with that until it becomes obvious that SOE actually will not hire a new storyteller/dev person. I think we have too much of apocalyptic visions here, but that's how the public usually reacts - with panic and disbelief. That was true for the economic meldown in the Real, and that is true for MxO now. But remember - you create reality by what you say.

I wasn't quite sure whether I should put it in "Support Forums", so I told myself it'd be ok to post my qestion here as well. The matter is that I reinstall my Windows pretty often due to various reasons, and so obviously I'd be expected to reinstall the MxO too. But a while back I just tried and saw the game was working as it was, without any re-installation, and I wasn't experiencing any apparent troubles. That's why I thought: well, if I don't have to re-download all the patches, I'm more than fine with it. But now I'd like to know now if there actually is any reason to re-install the game. Most of the other games I had worked quite bad without it, if at all. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Far from good. As announced, the shadowy faces have not been fixed, as haven't other issues (i.e. the char isn't dispalyed correctly in inventory window, some items do not display at all when hovering the cursor over their icons). The texture bugs have been "resolved" very very slightly - they're more limited, but not gone.

I don't care what Rarebit, or Virrago, or anyone employed by SOE says. I mean... please take a minute to sit down and really think this one out, will you? WB is really going to give SOE rights to run the game, but not advertise it? Not even put it on their website? Really? Seriously? You actually believe that? To answer the OP's question, even though I loved the full Matrix trilogy, your average joe only really enjoyed the first movie. Matrix Reloaded was good, especially with the questions we were left with at the end. Revolutions, in many peoples' eyes, was a huge letdown and disappointment. That, coupled with a few bad videogame releases kind of ruined the Matrix image for a lot of folks.
Warner Bros.: Hey. We have a really cool franchise going for The Matrix. Since we own your company, we want you to develop a game for it. Monolith: Cool. Consider it done. Warner Bros.: Ooooh. We just had an idea. While you're at it... why don't you start working on one for DC Comics, too? Monolith: Oh... alright. [Eons of Development Later] Monolith: So, um... we've got a game for you. Warner Bros.: Really?! Is it DC Comics Online? It is, isn't it? Monolith: Actually it's that Matrix game you wanted. Warner Bros.: Oh. Yeah, gotcha. What's the status on the DC Comics game? Monolith: Well... Warner Bros.: Alright. We'll publish MxO and keep waiting for DC Comics Online. [MxO is published, and run by Monolith] SOE: This is SOE, can I help you? Warner Bros.: Yeah... um... we asked Monolith to make DC Comics Online for us, and it's been forever, and they're not really any closer to completion. Do you think you guys could do it? I mean, you do so many games already... SOE: For sure. We love DC Comics, yo. People would be all over that. Warner Bros.: Great! Glad to hear you're excited about it. So, um... wait. You guys actually run your games, right? I mean, like, on top of developing them? SOE: Yep. Warner Bros.: Cool. See, we like Monolith and everything, but they're known for developing games, not really running them. So, like, would it be possible that we could give you The Matrix Online in a packaged deal with DC Comics Online? SOE: Um... alright. Warner Bros.: Sweet! This'll let us cut our expenses! SOE: ...Okay? [SOE obtains DCO and MxO, shuts down 6 of the 9 servers, WB lays off countless people associated with MxO, cuts funding, etc.] MxO Community: ...Um... that did seem a little excessive, but you know what? WE HAVE FAITH! LET'S GIVE SOE TIME! SOE: Walrus, you ran this before, right? So, like... you and Rarebit and HCFrog can run it now, right? With, like, minimal help from us? Walrus: ...Sure? Rarebit: ... HCFrog: ...I'll do my best. SOE: Great. [Months pass by] SOE: Hey, HCFrog... we've got a new title we're working on called Pirates of the Burning Sea. Aether's over there. You want to come, too? It's better pay... HCFrog: Not really, but I do have a family to think about... [Months pass by] SOE: Yo, Walrus... great job with keeping MxO afloat, dude. I don't suppose you'd be interested in helping produce The Agency, would you? Walrus: Sure. More money in my pocket. [Months pass by] Rarebit: ... [Months pass by] Rarebit: ... Simply excellent!

I'm really two hands for player RP events with Animatrix-like sidestories. But at the same time, I want an official main storyline, and it's not because MetaLogic or anyone else doesn't care about it that all of the players don't care about it. I personnally do care and I know a lot of people that do so too. So, my point is: do player events, but don't think they can take the place of an official main story. Do these events and keep asking for a new head dev for this game. Maybe it will not be useful at all. Maybe. But if we don't try to make it as obvious as it can be that we want and need it, if we don't keep asking for it, we'll never know for sure if we could or couldn't influence our SOE big brothers. If we try and fail, well - that's how life is sometimes. If we don't try, we'll be sure to get the same result, but also a part of the blame to take.

I do like the second letter, but I think the first one can be improved. At least, I wouldn't not recommend to insist on us being "fanatics", given the word has some really negative connotations. Plus IMO it better be a little more concrete, as it sounds rather vague to me. We declare an attitude, but we don't define clearer goals in that version. Well, that's just my feedback.

While waiting for a letter from Walrus, I pretty accidentally found his letter from 2007. The following lines sounded pretty ironic from the today's perspective: "...And since the guys on MxO are pros at keeping the game going, I don't feel the need to constantly oversee what they're doing. However, I'm way overdue for sending out an update from my perspective. Most of what "keeping the game going" means is moving the storyline along. This has always been the most important post-launch element for The Matrix Online and continues to be the case..." Like someone once said, some things never change, while others do. I wonder what we'll read in the upcoming message from our Producer (assuming that it really is upcoming).

Honestly, if Walrus gets some new information for us and obtains something that will give MxO a decent future (byt this I mean a leading dev, of course), I'm ready to wait for a producer's letter with an announcement of it all for one more month. Hey, I could wait two months even!
