When using Escape & Evasion, I know there switching to either Concealment or Line Up the Shot offers the enemy a chance to see you. However, sometimes while shifting from E&E to Conceal I am successful and then interrupted right thereafter -- even with no enemies around. It says that I've moved, interrupting an ability. I'm standing still, and this happens quite often.

So Sniper is a bit broken at times. Not always, but it's a pain in the rear lately.

What I always wonder about is "alternate power sources".

"there are level of survival we are prepared to accept" is this just a reserve and if so far and how much can run on it for how long.

I've always seen the look of the Machines, primarily the Sentinels, as something more than just a mere metal appearance. Sure, it's metal, but they are oftentimes very fluid and yet powerful. Solid, like muscle and bone. They seem to have formed crude flesh, perhaps modifying over themselves in their sick and alien ways. Keep in mind that the Machines themselves are not human and very few understand how we feel as humans. A perfect example would be how Sati's father felt. A feeling machine program. Some grow to accept "feelings" or "ideas" as artificial intelligence would allow them. But then we get into the debate of whether a machine has a soul, whether it's random, etc. but that is something altogether different.

Back on topic, the Machines' alternatives appeared to be quite grim as the Architect's expression and tone change ever-so-slightly to suggest they are fond of the power source to be found in the humans. Perhaps they'd even gone so far as to suggest they could commit genocide, pushing the humans to extinction and perhaps using their remains as some sort of source? In what way I cannot fathom at this time, but it's always a thought that it would somehow be possible. Perhaps the lightning-storm would be an attempt, as someone mentioned. Finally, what if they resorted to expirementing with raw materials? The Earth may have some resources that are now obsolete to human needs, but perhaps they would server the Machines... albeit not as efficiently as the batteries they have now.

Using the humans, imprisoned within the Matrix, is a sort of symbiosis that seems to benefit both sides. If either side perishes, what would be left for the other? Seriously, if all the Machines were wiped out it would simply leave the humans to remain underground in the Real or upon the surface, disgusted at the actions of their ancestors. I'd worry more about what the humans' alternatives would end up being? The Matrix isn't so bad. It's an escape from the Real.

The Lounge Matrix Universe Computer specs that houses The Matrix Re:Computer specs that houses The Matrix Zerotolerance 0 01/17/2007 21:36

Artificial Intelligence is possible now. However, alot of AI is also pre-programmed with responses that it adapts with. Artificial Intelligence learning to make its own choices is a bit trickier, as there's alot of involvement if you were to code something that could truly adapt and not just select from options already in its command list but actually put together new options. Essentially, true artificial intelligence as we see it portrayed in the films is a long time out of the way.

Something truly able to adapt would be so limited for fear of science-fiction flicks would be closely monitored and have nothing like the capabilities given in the cinema and books. It's pure fantasy to suggest that we would have robots live amongst us, as paranoid and egotistical as humans can be.

I've had several animations go off while powerless. Typically, the damage does not go through at all. It only wastes time with animation and with the Rifle Butt Smash you have one exceptional benefit of being able to withdraw from combat. If used properly, this may result in exploits. However, I don't think enough people use it to exploit it.

Although now that it's out there, expect to see more Expert Riflemen now. *sigh*

He is the War Program, and nothing else. He is the collective consciousness of ALL of the Sentinels, or at least the central brain of them all. It could be said that when the Deus Ex Machina accepted Neo's offer of peace that the signal was immediately relayed to "The General" and from there it trickled down into the other Sentinels.

The General probably doesn't even have a location outside of the Matrix. He travels between all of the Sentinels, within pico-seconds.

The Lounge Matrix Universe Did they ever expand on the notion that the machines built Zion? Re:Did they ever expand on the notion that the machines built Zion? Zerotolerance 0 04/23/2007 20:09

When the Architect gives Neo the choice to choose specimens from the Matrix to rebuild Zion, he also mentions that stepping through the door allows for the dissemination of the Source Code he carries. It's possible that going through the door allows Neo to actually enter the Source and from there he is no longer the same. No more 'One' as we know him; Neo would be totally stripped of his abilities and his uberness would no longer be relevant.

From the Source, it is possible that those who are selected are inserted with a code similar to the way that The One was initially inserted with a code. Only this code would be an artificial past/story to trigger their growing up within Zion, rebuilding it, etc.

The only flaw I ever saw in the storyline were the chronological facts. When Morpheus says "It's closer to 2099," I think that our True Believer is wrong. There's no way you could have six instances of fully-grown, flesh-based humans in the span of 100 years. Well, you COULD. That would mean every twenty years Zion is destroyed and that would put Tank at 20 years old in the first movie. So it sounds appropriate, but he would have had to be born directly after Zion was rebuilt. I guess I sort of answered my own question...

Allow me to remove some of the confusion in this thread.

Think of The General as a strategist and commander.  I've never seen any evidence to support him being the consciousness for sentinals.  He designed the attack against Zion based on the previous successful attacks he lead against them and his knowledge gained from studying the historic wars of men.  Elements of his strategy that can be seen in the attack are the use of different waves of sentinals and using the drills.  He didn't need to be on the battlefield, he just commanded the army.

The Commandos or sentinals are not "controlled" by him, but they follow his orders.  As you can plainly see for yourself in the last cinematic.

When Dues Ex Machina sent a command to the General to stop the attack, (an attack that was assured success) he refused and was removed from his position.  He went into exile along with all of the sentinals that would follow him.

He is software. I'd argue that he is hardwired into each and every Sentinel, with no central location. The onl physicaly representation there is of this War Program would be The General we see in the Matrix and that's not even physical.
The Lounge Matrix Universe The Oracle - Revisited! Re:The Oracle - Revisited! Zerotolerance 0 04/30/2007 22:11

She's indeed a guide. But she's also an Exile, herself... Although that's not the word I'd used to describe her, I feel as though she is necessary as the opposite to the Architect's systematic design. She's still a program herself, but her calculations are open to a more cryptic way of relay... She's a true AI in the sense that instead of giving yes and no answers, she offers a maybe.

But remember, she also created Smith -- or turned him into an Exile, somehow. She put the events into play that ended with peace. I think she had faith in Trinity's potential to fall in love with Neo and Neo's potential to use that love to prevail. Of course, it gets more complex than that... But telling Morpheus that he'll find the One as a prophesy means nothing if the 'code of the one' wasn't random. We can argue our theories, but Neo was either predestined to get the program or it happened at random. That coupled with how obvious it was that Smith was actually destined/decided to become an Exile... And lastly, the Architect was apparently in on the setup from his statement at the end of Revolutions:

"That's a dangerous game you played."

Remember, it's ALL Control. The Architect. The Oracle. Some of the Programs are in on it or know more details than others, whereas Agents and the Merovingian's henchmen might not know crap.

I think we should get a couple of new constructs, or new districts to explore with level 51-55 NPC's to kill. I think this will give us new reason to farm, as well. I like the look of Zero One compared to the city environment and on top of that I actually miss places like Yuki and Widow's Moor -- they look different, not the same old concrete.

I think a new Construct or two would be sweet!

Maybe they should add the Chateau or other places for us to travel to. Of course I couldn't go there, not being a Merovingian man myself. No, I'm pretty sure I'd be shot on sight.

With Manatik I had the same problem. The time I saw him he was surrounded by every Merovingian redpill on the server, save for Tytanya and Twaggy. It's definitely more of a challenge for me to get in there and capture a bounty when I'm also a target and they inevitably hyperjump away when they either run out of knives or friends. SMILEY

The system is designed that you always can roll a 1 on your attack but that chance become less likely the higher your Acc is. Missing someone sitting doesn't suprise me. If you missed more than 10 or so in a row I would be worried.

I've missed three Sniper Shots in a row, consecutively, against three separate targets.

My Ballistic Accuracy is normally 114 pts from Rifle Style +17 pts from Sniper Buff. This give me 131 pts of Accuracy. Add on to that the 99 pts from Line up the Shot and I've got 230 pts of Accuracy. I can change my gear to the accuracy gloves, coat, pants, and glasses but they only give me about 6 extra pts of Accuracy.

Keep in mind another quote of the series:

"My both humans and machine be forgiven for their sins..."

That one line sums it up...

The whole war was a knee-jerk reaction to be honest and yes while the machine actions were brutal (the ripping out of a man from his mobile suit...) and their retribution swift (Nuke in the UN) along with their Terminator style knowledge of human anatomy for the creation of the Matrix and enslavement of the human race, it is a concept that is generally accepted as "logical". (Terminator movies - Machines have a detailed knowledge of human anatomy for the purpose of quick kills etc / I, Robot  movie - Robotic logic system dicates that humans need to be enslaved to protect them from themselves, ergo this conclusion comes through lack of emotion.) Effectively they were just as they are, cold blooded killers/body recovers freed of a conscious or emotional impact of something.

It's a lot more frightening to me that humans can do just about the same things as the machines did without a second thought and yet we would argue ourselves absolved of it somehow.

In the end though, both parties were brutally brutally in the wrong... Another line to remember when it comes to the enslavement situation;

"Thus did man become the architech of his own demise"

Take away a power source and you effectively find you'll turn into one =p It's also worth noting that while the enslavement of humanity was a sad event it was a logical solution of keeping the two co-existing, I'd fully be willing to state that the human's of that timeline were such morons they would probably inbreed to build up their numbers and start another war... -_-;;
Based on this description, artificial intelligence at an educated level becomes aware of the fact that (its) knowledge is just data. Machines, being able to transfer that knowledge between themselves, are in a way superior to humans in a physical sense. They can find methods of survival that surpass our own natural abilities. And some can escape physical dominion into the Matrix itself.

The key is in the software. Some machines are able to be programmed with 'social behavior,' not just cold-blooded existence. Such is displayed in programs - software 'machines' - located within the Matrix. Self-awareness is nothing more than realizing that you are distinct, different, and individual. At that point, does a machine acquire a soul?

As for the low-level abilities being overlooked:

So is Disarming Shot, but if you stack its effects with DPE you've successfully reduced your opposing Gunner's CT greatly. Hindering Shot is a low-level ability and it's one of the most effective ways to keep an enemy from HJing away. Arguably better than Rooting them, as Roots break far too easily if you wish to maintain your freefire. Neurodart is low-level, but it doesn't keep Spies from shoving one into your forehead for extreme discomfort.

We're still within Neo's iteration of the Matrix, which makes past ones somewhat irrelevant. If it were to reset now, without the destruction of Zion or any of us attached to it, then we'd certainly know of the sixth one and then the following seventh.

It can be assumed that the Merovingian, The Oracle, The Architect, Neo, and many programs (and Exiles) know about certain details of the past iterations. But anything further would be speculation.

Yeah, this has been my mindset about the previous iterations. By now I think with the Merv spouting about the past iterations that we know about it, but other than that I agree.
Correct.

And how often do players get to meet with the Merv and have him reveal to them, specifically, something important? I don't mean critical missions, though. Figure that stuff is common knowledge. I think a clever backstory could contain something to help you stand out, but we're pretty much even in our knowledge. Aside from those who like figuring out the complex puzzles and live events ran by the LESIG. There's a few bits and pieces that were once known by only a handful of people, but it's easily spread itself on to others over time.

For example, the Watchmaker and the Joker storylines as well as how it tied in with 991 and Scanline.

I think paying attention to these events can show that your RP persona, your Redpill toon, can vouch that they know or discovered something rather remarkable about the Matrix. I think by remaining true to the canonical environment and metaplot of this game, we are sticking to one of the features we were promised of this game when it was first announced. We're a part of the Matrix storyline as it unfolds beyond the third movie.

Which is kinda' nifty.

In Ultima Online we had a nice system that would tell you what someone's strength, intelligence, and dexterity were through sizing them up. This helped you to tell what your chances were against them. This allowed you to avoid fights or pick them.

Maybe if the Device told us what they were weak against, it would help? But I could see alot of people griping about this as it's so easy to change your loadout in this game. Maybe, instead, it should just tell you what buffs the person had so that the chickensh*t people can be called out for what they really are...

Something I'd like to see added to the abilities...

Give Martial Arts a third tree, call it "Melee Weapons," that would compliment the MA tree. I don't even use MA and I think it would be sweet for people to have access to katanas during a fight. Have an actual katana as a weapon, but only usable through the level 24 (?) ability that you load in the tree, much like Dual Handguns, SMG's, and Sniper Rifles.

This would be like a reflection of Sniper in the Gunman tree. Level increase or not, it would be sweet to see this added. While there are balancing issues for new abilities, it would even be nice to see "Weapons" or "Swords" as an additional tree to use. It might even be nice to see an additional MA style like "Drunken Boxing," or the addition of a Gunman tree called "Heavy Weapons," like the Howitzer or Network Attacker of the Gunman trees. The SMG's just don't cut it for me as a crowd control build, but an AoE weapons blast with an 8 second re-use timer would. Keep it Ballistic, even, and it still wouldn't be overpowered. Most 50's have good ballistic resistance.

As another idea, how about a new Coder tree built for defensive purposes? Use code bits as materials for creating brief, yet powerful buffs or shields in an area. Hell, this could be done even without code bits. But the whole purpose is quick, powerful bursts of coding to add to an area. Maybe you offer +60 to defenses for 12 seconds, enough time to lessen damage on your allies for a few hits. This could easily turn the tide of battle, someone loading this. How about giving a sweet accuracy buff for 12 seconds to everyone within six meters of you? What would be fair? +20 pts? +30 pts? Nothing too extraordinary, considering the time its active for.

Just ideas, but additional trees that would compliment the existing trees would allow the level cap to be raised, if that's what we're constructively trying to perceive.
