The way the buff currently works, it remains active even when you switch to another style. This could probably be changed, but honestly I like the tactical difference that it presents. Using Kung Fu GM Karate might sound strange (and maybe that's where most of the problem lies), but it's certainly a change from Karate GM Karate.

Well, it sounds like this "MtrWhite" guy is pulling the strings on this one... So I suggest that Machinist operatives without a faction contact him, and try to get on his good side...

While I wouldn't mind crashing this little meeting, I have better sense than to think it won't be crawling with the top brass Machinists, not to mention Agents...

I might be insane, but I'm not crazy.

Or maybe make it have a penalty when moving faster than a walk.
That could make things interesting, tactically.

Recursion Next Renaissance - Recursion A kiss for the Succubus Re: (The Interlocutor 2) EndlessVoid 0 11/01/2005 13:48
"Hm. I still don't know why you protect her... Oh wait, love, right?"

He smirked somewhat playfully, leaning forward to remove his back from the wall just outside the club, a black clove cigarette tossed to the ground where it hissed angrily at having the poor luck of falling into a pool of water from one of the sporadic rains that seemed always to grace the city at particularly convenient (or inconvenient, depending on how one felt about rain) times. Fine leather shoes narrowly skirted another such puddle as he approached her, his coat moving with his body, all layers of leather and fabric, all code, all the digitized essence of soft midnight...

It was something that others didn't understand, but that they, as Exilists, could uniquely and fully appreciate the value in. Appearance, that was...

He stopped for a moment, his eyes meeting Return's own from behind their two opposite pairs of lenses... And for once, he decided not to press the matter further. There was a fierceness in those eyes... He had come to expect a certain determination from the Lady... But this was something different. She seemed so mortally resolute of purpose. Void knew that look.

It had been his own, once...

Back, when he was able to do whatever he wanted to whoever he wanted to do it to, and not feel a thing of any consequence, except for the pleasure and relief of a grim job well done. Back in those days, his name was but a rumor on the lips of those who lurked the back alleys. Those that believed, that had seen his work with their own eyes... They feared him. Void drank it in, reveled in their fear... And thus, he was untroubled by those myriad attachments that troubled so many.

... All that had changed, now.

Now, he felt the insecurity of humanity, he felt the inability to act upon his employment, to act with any purpose whatsoever... It was debilitating. He would not yet admit that he feared anything, but there was a certain hesitance. He gritted his teeth. This was all because of Pltchaos, and her unwelcome advances upon him... But then, why did he have such a hard time turning her away? He, Void, the everpresent shadow of the Merovingian himself, the man who had spurned the advances of countless Succubi, who had even been able to decline (politely of course) the Frenchman's wife herself... Now, it seemed, he was being torn to shreds by this novice of a seductress. Regardless of what power she possessed, that annoyed Void greatly.

And yet... He had enjoyed it...

Blinking, and realizing that Return was still staring at him, he quickly regained at least the appearance of his usual bearing, that slight smile returning to his face.

"You know where to find me if you want my help in this..." he said, his eyes rising slowly from her own, to the sky. "Now, if you'll excuse me..."

And he jumped.

  This is an excellent idea.
Like many players, I have to update my bio info to make it more relevant.
As for people abusing the system, perhaps we can make it an option from the Launcher window, thus making it so that you can only edit your bio while not logged into the game as that character. That would allow regular edit-ability without compromising value.

The data miner tree is still available, but for some reason you can't navigate to it through the infiltrator tree.
Try clicking the button in the upper lefthand corner of your abilities panel, which should bring up a broad overview of all the trees, and simply select the Data Miner tree from that.

Though it looks to me like they haven't done any work on it yet, so they may be waiting until after CU 2.0 to work out Data Mining. It's not exactly a combat tree, and some bugs still need to be worked out with it.

  To the Merovingian's Faithful:

Going over the recent mass-influx of data has yielded an unexpected bonus in this particularly vexing matter...

We have the locations of the Cypherites' explosive devices.

These devices have not yet been planted, but supposedly they will be set and primed tomorrow. Due to the inevitable incompetence of the other Organizations, it is once again up to us to stop them.

The locations are as follow:

1. The Ascension Monument in Rogers Way Central.
2. The Merovingian Archivist (you should know where this is).
3. The Zion Archivist in Moriah Projects East.
4. The Mara Central Church
5. Near Greene, the local Exile leader in Mannsen Park Northwest.
6. The coordinates -736 1 -1205.
The Cypherites claim that this location has a protal to escape the Matrix somehow. I could see why they would want to blow it up, if that is true...
7. The Sobra Shores Access Node at coordinates -363 1 -1204.
8. The Blue Line Subway Station at Dannah Heights West.

These bombs will all need to be located and diffused, or the master trigger must be deactivated. Good luck.

In Exilium,
The Endless Void

Recursion Next Renaissance - Recursion The Good News Re: The Good News EndlessVoid 0 11/08/2005 00:10
Void snapped his cellphone closed and put it back into his pocket. He was continuing to wish that he had not given the number to as many people as now had it... Come to think of it, he hadn't given the number to as many people as now had it.

Plt had called to tell him she might be a sister. He had said he didn't care. She then informed him that she had located her bluepill parents - at least until they had sold their house and moved away. Again, Void had said that he didn't care... That time, however, he had been lying.

Void did care, but definitely not in the way that Plt did. So she had some bluepill parents living in Mannesdale... He still hadn't quite gotten over how she had used him recently, even though he understood it had been largely beyond her control... Still, what was it Anubis had told him?

"Sometimes, it takes an uncaring soul..."

Void decided that Plt cared far too much about far too little... And he also felt like it was starting to affect other operatives, especially himself and his work. In the very core of his being, Void cared for only two things, and those two things happened to be himself, and his work.

Opening up a new browser window on his laptop, he navigated to the page of the Cobra Lounge that held the information Plt had talked about, a few quick clicks downloaded the phone number into his cellphone, which he had connected for that purpose, and now quickly disconnected as that purpose was fulfilled. The phone was slipped, efficiently, back into his pocket.

Sliding out from behind that desk, he picked up his coat from the rack on the way out the door, the smooth black leather sliding over his body to cover his various weapons. He nodded silently to the Exiles who always seemed to be standing there at all hours of the day, not telling them, as usual, where he was headed. He stepped into the elevator, being greeted by the faint strain of some depressingly bland music... His ears were gladdened substantially when the elevator doors opened into the cavernous silence of the building's subterranean garage.

Slipping a keyring from his pocket, his fingers worked absentmindedly until they found an object shaped in the manner of a particular key - in this case, for a car. Void generally took his motorcycle, or moved by hardline, as most did... But this time, he simply felt like a proper drive... Slipping into the black vehicle, he closed the door, soundproofing the space. He hit a button, autodialing the number he had placed into the phone earlier, as his right hand turned that key in the car's ignition, starting the vehicle.

"Yes, can I speak to David or Krista Dost, please? It's about the house..."

Sometimes, it took an uncaring soul, Anubis had said... Void was indeed capable of caring...

... But just a little.

Feedback Forums Items and Clothing Feedback Now that we're getting hit a lot more often... Now that we're getting hit a lot more often... EndlessVoid 0 02/18/2006 12:58
Is there any plan to slow the rate of decay on items?

I know that sometimes when I take two points of falling damage, I lose a point of stability on something (usually one of my pandora or construct items, of course...), and it has occurred to me that I have been able to prevent stability loss on a grand scale thus far simply because I don't get hit very often. 45+ points of dodge ranged will do that.

Anyway, under the new system, we get hit a lot, though it is for 1 and 2 points of damage sometimes. However, stability loss isn't tied to damage, as far as I know. I believe it is simply tied to being hit and having a chance to lose stability each time you take a hit.

So... Before it becomes a problem, maybe whoever is doing items (Frog?) should take a look at it.

Recursion Next Renaissance - Recursion Role Playing for Dummies 2.0 Re: Role Playing for Dummies 2.0 EndlessVoid 0 11/09/2005 19:19
Very good quidelines, all. I have only one slight point of contention. Regarding the "no godlike characters" rule posted at the very top... I think what you're trying to say is:

"Your character is not all-powerful, or all-knowing, nor are you in complete command of every situation. What you do must follow logic, even if it is the maleable logic of the Matrix."

The "You are not God" rule is an important one, and I'm not trying to argue with it itself. I think, rather, that apart from the first one, your examples aren't particularly godlike. For instance, pulling an SMG "out of nowhere" is only realistic if you're a scantily-clad anime heroine, or some such. Doing that sort of thing without any kind of explanation in a realistic, or even semi-realistic RP will get you mocked. SMILEY

However, supposing our example character had reached into his coat and pulled forth an SMG that he had been hiding there, that would make sense. I mean, Neo did it. And not even when he was the One.

Secondly, people die all the time in one shot. Certainly not player characters, as that infringes on rule #2. But NPCs expire in droves thanks to a well-aimed burst of automatic fire. The Matrix is a world of high-lethality, and it's not an expression of godlike power to put a gun to someone's head and pull the trigger. Rather, it would be godlike for someone to SURVIVE that sort of encounter.

Thirdly, acting like God is not BEING God. If you want to start a fight, then laugh and walk out, that's your prerogative. If someone wants to chase after you and keep fighting with you, that's up to them, and you can't really stop them because you're not God. A perfect example of this is the Merovingian. The man has lots of guards to do his fighting for him. Thus, he can start a fight and escape. Does this make him God? Certainly not (despite what some Merovingian supporters might think. SMILEY ).

Anyway, I just thought I should bring that up, in case people were confused by those examples. The basic idea is the same. Don't be God. Your character can pretend to be God. Your character can even wholly believe he or she is God. But they are not, in reality. That's where the distinction lies.

Recursion Next Renaissance - Recursion Role Playing for Dummies 2.0 Re: Role Playing for Dummies 2.0 EndlessVoid 0 11/09/2005 22:53
A good rule to go with is that if the canon character doesn't remember however they impacted your life, then you can claim it in your backstory. For example, if you once saw Morpheus run from some Agents and escape through a hardline, that's totally cool. If, on the other hand, you claim to be Neo's brother... Well, that's a problem. There are certain cases where you wouldn't want to claim a relationship, even if that character wouldn't recognize you anyway. For example, if you're Neo's secret twin-brother, separated at birth... Well, that's a problem, too, even though Neo wouldn't remember you.

As for playing Exiles or Agents or the like, it has worked out for a few people. I can think of three people who have been able to pull such a thing off. That's it. If you're not absolutely sure you can CONVINCINGLY play some kind of nonhuman with the complexity it deserves (especially since the game mechanics themselves don't support it), do us all a favor and don't do it.

The bottom line is this: RP is about mutual belief. If you and everyone you RP with believe something, it is for all intents and purposes true. Those who are deeply entrenched in the RP community, such as Gothique, Plt, or Anubis, can claim things that are a little more out there than usual and still be believed. But while you're just getting started with the RP scene, my recommendation is against trying anything too far "out there".

  Archived Information:

Full Name: Miyoji Akira (Note: "Miyoji" is the family name)

Handle: Void

Zion Identification Serial: DECEASED - Serial Recycled

Age: 23

Height: 5'8"

Weight: 140 lbs

Eye Color: Green (Wears full-eye black contact lenses)

Hair Color: Black

Ethnicity: Half-Japanese, Half-American

Other Distinguishing Features: The black eyes are the first thing one would notice about him, even though he regularly wears sunglasses over them. Many tattoos and piercings, "gothic" manner of dress, prone to extreme over-accessorization. Would probably get lost in a crowd, if he didn't stick out so much. Even unarmed, would NEVER make it past a metal-detector..

Age of Freedom: 23

Years Freed: <1

Current Ranking: Traitor (Deceased)

Former Hovercrafts(s): The Andromeda

Current Hovercraft: None

Weapons of Choice: A engraved pair of black Glock G18C's, shined to perfection. In hand-to-hand combat, Void prefers a flashy-but-efficient hybrid of Karate and Kung Fu. He has also been known to employ knives and other melee weapons.

Personality: "Less-than-sunny". Void does not work well with others. He's a loner, and very narcissistic. His best friend is clearly himself... Still, there is a larger side to the man. He constantly seeks true enlightenment, albeit in all the wrong places. His inability to accept others as anything more than tools will more-than-likely lead him nowhere. However, when he does find something beyond himself to believe in, it might well be the mechanical perfection of the System. It is known that he wishes he WERE a machine, in terms of perfection... Odd, in that he did not, until recently, know the truth of the Matrix, as such. Given such facts, no attempt would ordinarily have been made to even contact Void, given the high probability for his defection to the Machines - or worse, the Merovingian... However, he shows amazing potential, and these are desperate times. Unfortunately, if he becomes aware of that potential, and/or how little he is accepted and trusted by his fellow man, the consequences could be disastrous.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Void would claim an entire lack of weaknesses, which of course is his greatest. However, he also possesses great aptitude for virtually any task within the Matrix, which while it is certainly a strength, only serves to support the previously mentioned weakness.

Background Information: Akira was the only child of his parents, a Japanese businessman married to an American woman, and thus was the sole heir to the Myoji name, a name which was as generic as the people from which it had come. He had, in truth, stopped calling "those people" his parents that same night he had stopped calling himself "Akira". True, he still answered to that name, but he was firmly convinced that anyone who did not know him as "Void" did not truly know him... Ironically, this meant that he felt closest to fellow hackers and underworld-types, most of whom he had never met.

Akira was an extremely intelligent, if introverted, student, who was a little dark of mind, manner, and fashion, but did extremely well in school and looked as if he had a bright (though boring) future ahead of him... Void, on the other hand, was a known criminal hacker, prone to consorting with the wrong sorts of people. He liked motorcycles. This led to subsequent loves of drugs, alcohol, sex, guns, fights, etc. Void had an extremely dark future, if any, ahead of him... His parents remained in the dark. Void wasn't in the dark. Void was the dark. He knew that he was a part of his own captivity, somehow, but he knew as well that something more existed... Maybe it was all the Zen philosophy they had exposed him to... It was one of the only things he had a REAL passion for... That and hacking.

Of course, these traits led him to question the fundamentals of his reality... "What is Enlightenment" gave way to "What is Existence", "What is Reality", "What is Truth", and ultimately "What is the Matrix?" Aware that meditation would not solve his query, he waited for an answer to that question. This answer came in the form of the crew of the Andromeda, who freed him with no unwanted intervention by the Machines. He was tutored by Epsilon in the various skills vital for a Zion Operative, and picked up programming and mechanics on the side. He seemed to excel in all areas, as predicted. Unfortunately, this was not the only prediction that would prove true.

The choice to free Void was a hard one to make, and it was his knowledge of the inherent distrust of his crewmates that ultimately led to his betrayal of them. After hot-wiring the broadcasting equipment so he could jack-in covertly and autonomously from his room aboard the ship, Void engaged in several clandestine meetings with the Merovingian himself, apparently offering the Frenchman a girl named Prophet, in exchange for benefits unknown... However, the traitor's plan did not work out perfectly, and although Prophet was ultimately taken by the Merovingian as a result of their encounter, she was nevertheless unable to gun Void down just as he had opened the door into what was apparently a construct of some sort. His body was reportedly torn to shreds by Sentinels shortly thereafter in the Real, and his remains were lost along with the wreckage of the Andromeda.

However, because the Rhadamanthus was reconstructed partially from parts of the Andromeda and the Perseus, Void's dark legacy lives on, at least in the tampering he was able to work upon the Operator's station. Tangent has since worked the major bugs out, and the threat from any residual programming Void may have engineered is virtually nonexistent.

Not only that, but I've heard it's a lot easier to solo Tengu in CU 2.0.
