That was sixteen days ago. It's been two weeks and no word? Poop or get off the pot, dude.
New news: Walrus @ Anni party on Rec: there is no news. MxO will continue to run as it is now.

Be careful what you wish for.
Are you all really sure you want to read this letter? What if it means the servers shut down and MxO end we have all been dreading (but not exactly unsuspecting)?
Are you sure you want to read it then? I'll hope for the bight side, and it'll mean better news than that - but .. it's MxO after all.
Wally will get to it when he gets to it. Maybe he doesn't want to put it out, because of the uproar that will ensue.
Oh well. I'd rather hear bad news than no news. I'd prefer to know if there is a shutdown date, if there is one, so I can plan accordingly. Always better to know the bad news then to keep things hidden from us (which accomplishes nothing except creating lots of resentment).

Honestly, if Walrus gets some new information for us and obtains something that will give MxO a decent future (byt this I mean a leading dev, of course), I'm ready to wait for a producer's letter with an announcement of it all for one more month. Hey, I could wait two months even!
What he said.
Of course you could wait those two months and still not see a Producers letter. Waiting is all well and good.. when you know one is coming.

Sounds reasonable enough. I just hope that he doesn't say something like being unsure whats going to happen, but the Halloween event is around the (extremely far away) corner. I suspect if he did say something it would probably be about FF '09, that event which only a tiny fraction of the games community can get to/is interested in.

I agree that it's annoying and pathetic for those who blue snipe (or blue punt) to run and deflag so they can do it again and again. But the message doesn't say your flag should be back up, it says that normal pvp rules now apply once more, in non-hostile servers this means when you're unflagged, you remain unflagged until /pvp or attacking a hostile player. Should it be changed so that the pvp timer resumes upon leaving or that the timer continues but the flag is dropped only when in the club (which means those who do it would have to stay in the club for the remainder of the time until they naturally deflag)? I would be all for that but I gather its technically difficult to code in a pause to the timer or to disassociate the flag from the timer. One reason why a hostile server is better than non-hostiles. Is it CCR'able? I tend to doubt it, yes it's cheap, yes it tends to kill pvp most of the time but the pacification zone does what it's supposed to do. It deflags a player and upon leaving a pacification zone, unless you wander into a pvp zone, the server pvp rules apply. I'm sure it's been CCR'd countless times but personally I've not heard of anyone being warned for doing it continuously or anything. It's a trait of non-hostile servers which most of us who pvp on non-hostile servers have gotten used to and react to in a few ways.

The_Bruceter wrote: All i ask for is to be flagged when you walk back out, which surely is possible since your pvp timer must be still running for it to kick up a messgage saying PvP rules apply.
No, no it isn't, I thought this had been explained. Look for the key word in the message:
the flag has been turned off.. and just as the message says in the second line, when you leave the pacification zone:
Normal PvP rules that apply to a non-hostile server are 'Non-Hostile until typing /pvp, attacking a Hostile player or entering a PvP zone'. Hostile worlds are one big PvP zone which is why your flags turn back on after leaving. Should it be back on when leaving, I still say yes with the Paci zone either pausing the pvp timer or still allowing it to continue in the background. However it doesn't and no matter how many times this has been CCR'd, /bug'd, complained about on the forums, it's not changed and it's unlikely to change. If you're gonna PvP on a 'carebear' server you'd just have to get used to the extra danger of blue snipes/punts etc..

deimoslvov wrote: With all the huge sympathy I have both for Tranque and Villemar, I don't buy the "I'm not rich, I can't afford" part. Let's see. I live and earn money in Ukraine, which is very far from being the richest country in the world and which is officially the hardest hit by the current economic crisis in Europe. And still, with a relatively small revenue - compared to the US and EU, where even a frankly mediocre job makes people earn twice as much as I do - I can afford paying 15 bucks per month. So no, I won't believe people out there in US or EU can't afford paying 50 cents a day for a game they want to play. In my eyes, it's not a question of possibility/affordability, but a question of willingness. It's quite understandable you may not want to pay this price for a game with no new content. But please, do not say you can't/ because that doesn't sound too honest.
Uh, yeah.. Some people may earn more than you but did the possibility that they have more outgoings than you occur? Using myself as an example, I'm in the forces, it pays fairly well but I have a family I provide for, what with food and electricity and gas bills, then car bills (MOT/Tax/fuel/insurance), phone bills, internet bills, credit card bills, loans, insurance etc... I'm just lucky I don't have to pay a mortgage on the house I live in. Add to that we just had a daughter born we're tight for cash at the moment and if anything was to be cut it would probably be things that we could do without such as MxO. So even though people may earn more than you, doesn't mean that they aren't struggling to afford stuff. Willingness has got bugger all to do with it.

Missioning provides more than enough $i to level up your abilities, add to that the $i you loot from dead NPC's and selling the crap you pick up from them. Perhaps it's not the game that sucks but the player?

Just replying in the same tone as the question, nothing more. Besides from someone who previously made a thread stating that they've already got the archive rewards they want and was asking which Archives gave the best XP I'd assume that they'd at least have a fairly decent handle on how things work by now. Unless it's an alt, I'm surprised that after getting the archive rewards they're only lvl 8. Perhaps I've just forgotten what it was like to be new.

Perhaps, but I do remember when I was new I didn't go around blaming my lack of knowledge/skill/experience on the game. In this case, my response was appropriate to the originating comment, imo. Besides, the amount of people showing willingness to help in this thread alone let alone the Redpill rescue section seems to show that overall the community is still one of the better ones out there with regards to aiding new players.

Precisely. Plus tbh, suggesting to the guy that the problem may not be down to the game but down to him is showing him the way. I've helped no end of new players but I always treat them as I would any player old or new and as such a polite or even normal request for help goes down a lot better than a rant. Personally, I don't see the point of mollycoddling new players, especially now. It's all well and good giving them a big welcoming hug, wrapping them up in a metaphorical big fluffy blanket, making them feel special when all your succeeding in doing is increasing the likelihood of them packing up and leaving when the blanket gets taken away (because face it, noone gets treated like a new player for very long) and the reality of the situation sets in. However that may just be me and as I said before the other responses to the question (ignoring the tone of it) hardly exhibits traits which Amad3us claims the whole community has.

WB has NOTHING to do with this:
Agreed, SOE has advertised the game on their site before, they still have the license. I don't see any reason why WB would stop them from doing (what little it was) what they were doing previously. It's not as if they were using Matrix images or doing anything but promoting the game by name and link. If time for approval is an issue then SOE could have applied for approval earlier. This is simply just another sign that SOE are happy just to keep MxO online as part of their Station pass. At this point I believe that the only thing SOE are willing to provide for us other than the continuing running of the servers is Virrago.

The game was not great back then either, just new to you and me, that newness is not something we can ever get back and is the singlemost reason why most MMORPG's don't last. MxO is in far better shape now than it ever was after launch. SOE may not be doing what you think it should be doing for this game but SOE is still the only reason this game is still here. No other company, including WB and Monolith would have been able to sustain it for this long, why do you think they sold it so quickly after release?
There's a right way to do things, and a wrong way to do things.
Indeed, it's just a shame that it seems that most of the subs we pay seem to go toward supporting other games. This view could be dead wrong (Although I doubt it is) but we don't get told otherwise, hell we don't even get any type of communication on the forums from the Producer anymore. In fact the only interaction we have with someone from SOE seems to be with Virrago but there's only so much he can do unfortunately.

Well at the moment I don't, I only care about this one along with many others, which is why we're complaining when we're getting right royally screwed by SOE. Funny that, for someone who's been 'playing since launch', his eyes are screwed shut from the reality of whats happening. So unless he or someone else who seems to be living in that dreamworld can point me toward another Matrix MMO, as soon as SGW or TOR or ST:O comes out I'm out of here and I suspect a good deal more have the same plan.

Appreciate your chipping in on this Virrago but I don't suppose you could tell us what it gets spent on? I realise asking for figures is out of the question. I can only think of staff and server maintenance but considering Rarebit has left and the monthly sub has not gone down it is quite puzzling. Also you do realise that you will be quoted quite firmly on this from this point in?

I continue to play because of the people. If it wasn't for them I'd have quit already. Thats why I still play and still post complaints about SOE's treatment of the game that I loved for a long time. There is no 'why complain and still play' when the reasons for doing both are obvious. I play because of the community, I complain because that community is getting affected by decisions out of it's hands.

Well apparently they're working for The Agency now and MxO's subs don't go into funding that. Rarebit didn't work for free and the price has not been reduced since his departure... On a side note, I think pretty much everyone appreciates what Virrago does in game and on the forums to provide a little entertainment or distraction every now and again.

- Give away your stuff.
- Make sure you will be unsubbed at the end of sub.
- Make sure that SOE doesn't re-bill you for a new month (if you pay by credit card).
- Think about what MMO you'll be playing next.
- RP Kill your character in a unique and funny way.
