I see a lot of posts lauding mainsteam movies....what about the others, like independents, foreign films and classic movies of yesteryear?

I saw a really good German movie called "Downfall" this week, its about the last 10 days of the Third Reich. It was really good, really horrific.

As far as independents, I recently saw "Wedding Belles" which was authored by the same guy who wrote "Trainspotting" and it's got a very similar style. Excellent.

And old movies, I recently saw "Monsieur Verdoux" by Charlie Chaplin (a talkie). It was wonderful.

Anyone else have any good Independent/Foreign/Classic movie picks?

Allright, hopefully in a few months I will be moving permanently (or at least several years) to either England or Ireland (I'd consider other European countries but I only speak a little Spanish at best).

For the time being, I will move to either the UK or Ireland. Couple questions:

1. Which one has a better health-care system? (I have a pre-existing condition and I can't get insurance here in the US)

2. Which one has a better employment rate?

3. Which has more long term stability, the Pound or the Euro?

5 days till release! I can't wait. This is my favorite show, I even remember when they were cartoon shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show in the '80's (yes I'm that old), and I'm sure I've seen all 1,000+ episodes. And I think Homer is the most memorable and funny character in the history of television.

The trailers look great. Love the pig ("Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does...." SMILEY . And I like how Ralph Wiggum sings the 20th Century Fox theme. SMILEY Can't wait!

So, in the past I have mostly used DVD Decrypter. It rips a single stream, ie. the movie itself. However, lets say I have a DVD with many streams I wish to rip.....a TV series for example. Is there any program (freeware especially) that will rip everything including the menus and all the streams without having to rip everything individually?

....so I hear Broin borrowed Untouchable's Assassin Mask and he refuses to give it back; and that FA supports his descision. Is this good gaming ettiquette? Discuss.

Yeah, I'm pretty psyched about this. Not a huge fan of the 1st one, but this one is going to be an entirely self-contained "Monster of the Week" type of movie, which were the best and most memorable shows IMO; not the "Le Grande Conspiracy" type shows that the 1st movie focused on, which I enjoyed early on in the series but found rather silly towards the end.

It's about 11PM PST and just wanted to get this in. I had the day off and yes, I did think of him and his legacy. Not just for desegregation but for his later courageous positions against war and poverty which were extremely unpopular. But he did it anyways not because it was expedient but because it was moral, no matter the consequences. I hope to see others in my lifetime follow in his footsteps.

I hope they don't proceed with the reflow of the two remaining districts. I get the idea for Richland and Westview, having a natural progression for new characters. However, I like the idea of Int'l and DT to be a different pastiche of varying difficulties. It makes it more challenging, and by the time you get to level 30 you shouldn't need baby steps. Also, Downtown at least has a natural flow to it anyways. Lastly, the rapid item decay situation combined with the boss drop nerf has been a major headache for a lot of us. I don't want my Direwolf Coat to disintigrate and not be able to ever get it back again. Anyways, that's my 2 Cents.

I originally had zero interest in seeing this. However after seeing a trailer on a plasma hdtv my interest was definately piqued. Why? Because VISUALLY what I saw was like mainlining 30 seconds of high grade MMDA. I mean, I can't explain how uninterested I am in seeing a movie about the TV show Speed Racer. I'd just be as equally uninterested in seeing a movie version of "Trapper John, M.D." BUT visually it seems like it might be STUNNING. So for the extreme high intensity visual blast I just might go for it. Even IMAX. The W Bros are cinematic pioneers there's no doubt about that. Any thoughts?

So yeah! Here's the deal. Michael J. Nelson of MST3K fame is still doing pretty much the same thing via something called RiffTrax. From wiki:

...The movies chosen to riff in Mystery Science Theater 3000 were predominantly low-budget B-movies because the show itself was low-budget and producers could only afford films with expired copyright or had otherwise cheap licenses. The idea of RiffTrax came about after Mystery Science Theater 3000 was cancelled when Nelson researched and consulted a lawyer about the possibility of directly releasing DVDs of films with the commentaries included, but realized that he would be "sued out of existence".The best-sounding method of distributing the commentaries would be to sell them independently of the films to avoid having to obtain the rights to distribute the movies themselves.There would be no legal or monetary restrictions to prevent Nelson from producing them,though viewers would have to provide the movies themselves.

So basically you can buy an MP3 with commentaries, with Nelson and Kevin Murphy (aka Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (aka Crow) mocking the movie in MST3K style, and sync it up with your own copy or use their own player which syncs it for you. When I saw "Matrix Reloaded" on the list of spoofed movies, I had to aquire it, so I used my favorite torrent engine, typed in "Matrix Reloaded" and "RiffTrax" and viola! Some enterprising youngster put it all together into a single avi file. It is Hillaryous!!! Haven't seen the whole thing but what I saw made me lol. For example, little comments like when Neo busts out of the Chateau and sees a mountain range: "Oh he's in Middle Earth now!" Or when Morpheus is fighting on the top of the truck:

Kevin Murphy (aka Servo): "What's the deal with Morpheus' vest, tie clip and sleeve garters?"

Mike Nelson: "I think he was a card sharp in Deadwood before he came to the Matrix."

Anyways they have lots of audio tracks for current flicks....can't wait to check out tracks for Cloverfield, Beowulf, I Am Legend, Transformers, 300, etc.! Great stuff!!

For our UK friends, unfortunately the Ultimate set wont be available unless as a US import. They are however releasing the Complete Matrix Trilogy on Blu Ray on November 17.

Not to be outdone, the Japanese are releasing the ultimate set, which can be stored inside an enclosed 2-foot model of the Nebuchadnezzar! Oh, snap! Japan only release, December 17.

The nerd in me wants this bad boy but its awful pricey. Also, I'm new to blu ray, don't have a player yet, and don't know about region codes, if the Japanese version would work on a US player.

My sister is really climbing the organizational ladder these days. Don't mess with these three!

So I had a bad day yesterday. I had to take the bus to the court to deal with this stupid ticket I got that is just dragging on way longer than it should. Things didn’t go the way I liked so I was in a very bad mood. I was at the bus stop and it was really cold and there were two people there on the covered bench thing…an older black lady and a young kinda tough looking guy. Not having a schedule I asked them if the bus was due to come soon. The younger guy was closest to the schedule posted on the wall so he checked for me and checked his cell and told me 5 minutes. I thanked him, then walked over to the side outside the bench area.

Next thing I know the older lady walks up to me smiling, and wordlessly offers me a cookie! Now generally I don’t take food from strangers but this little old lady had the kindest eyes and the warmest smile, so I took it. And you know what? I ate it, and it was great! Chocolate chip. I thanked her, and she said something like “Its very cold tonight!” Smiling the whole time. She didn’t look exactly like the Oracle but was about the same age, the same ethnicity, same benevolent look but skinnier. Then the bus came, I thanked her again as she was taking a later bus, and after I sat down and finished my cookie, it struck me….OMG I just met the Oracle in RL! Which picked up my mood, her little gesture of unconditional kindness.

So, just thought that was pretty cool. (Hmm does that mean I am the 0n3??11)

Yeah its a little late for this, but in case you haven't figured out what movies to rent or download or whatever, I thought I'd share some of my favorites, with some obvious and not so obvious ones. Whats on your list? Extra cretit for the less obvious ones!

Mine in no particular order:

1) It's a Wonderful Life - Yeah its about 60 years old and kind of corny, but I still enjoy this and cant help watching it evry time it comes on every year.

2) Joyeaux Noel - Means "Merry Christmas" in French. This is based on a true incedent during World War One. In the trenches, a Scottish and a French regimen were on the allied side, and the Germens on the other, and a spontaneous truce just kind of happened over Christmas...both sides just set their weapons aside for two days, got out of the trenches and celebrated Christmas together. This movie is reaaaly good and really moving. I think it might be my favorite.

3) Bad Santa - Enough said!

4) Millions - a Danny Boyle film, about a kid who finds a bag of money, and part of it takes place during Christmas. Its got a really good theme about materialism and whats imporant in life, always good this time of year.

This is the best layman's description of the whole banking/economic mess I've heard. Hearing this, I no longer have a thought bubble with "???" inside whenever I see something on the news or read an online article or whatever about what's going on in our chilly economic climate.

It's very basic. What is a bank, and how do they run? Why do we even need banks...can't we just let them go under?

Explained in simple terms using easy analogies. Great stuff!

So this morning, I saw a machinist fighting with a Zion. Two or three Meros came and shot up the Machinist. I was like *CENSORED*? But it does make sense from an RP perspective, since we're helping you recover Niobe.

I'm just wondering what the hell is going on, I hardlined to Uriah SW and got mauled by a ton of machinists.

From a practical perspective it's always good when Meros and Machinists band together against the Zerg. But some Machinists and Meros are defaulting to red = dead.

My Reccy alt was burned by the fact that I was working with Madhattah on something and he went completely MIA right when I needed his help. This was like four months ago. Since he obviously is not ingame anymore, can we please have a new Mero liason? It isn't fair that Toluca and Illuminia have to do the heavy lifting since Madhattah doesn't play anymore.

Some Very Bad Things have come up in my life right now. This means I will be offline indefinitely. Ideally i'll be back in a few months or so, but i can't really say at this point. My sister MissLola (as you know her here) and I bid you adeiu for now.

So, I was on as my alt (ProxyVillemar) at Mara C, doing some inventory management. A bunch of Zions/EPN's were there, but this alt is a lowbie (15) so I could focus on what I was doing without worrying about getting pwnd.

So this level 3 Mero chick comes on, and starts asking some RP questions about the truce and what will Zion do, etc. Although she had a basic overview of the story, her questions were pretty noobish.

Lol, of course ILLFACE and the others there basically ignored her. So, I figured I'd be polite and talk to her. We had a short but sweet little conversation, then she thanked me, gave me a Scanline Receiver, and left.

So whats the deal with this Scanline Receiver thingy? Are these things pretty rare or what? Should I keep it or sell it?

I guess the moral of the story is be nice to the wee noobs!
