Sector LODs are the untextured rough outlines of distant buildings you see in the...distance.

So would it be beneficial for someone with an old rig (*cough*  this guy) to leave that unchecked?  I assume that having that enabled loads the Sector LOD's on jackin as opposed to when it's needed, right?

In theory. I don't think that setting has as much of an impact on performance as some of the other ones; I haven't been able to see much of a difference with it on the machines I use for MXO.

Community General Discussion Cinematic 12.1 (may contain spoilers) Re:Cinematic 12.1 (may contain spoilers) Rarebit 0 12/18/2008 13:49

Alas, my erratic drawing style and animated presentation has created confusion. Plus I just don't seem to be able to draw that particular character's head correctly from a low angle. But aside from the context (scene that just happened previously featuring a certain character, area in distance that looks similar to same area in which character was seen arriving at the beginning), there are a few shreds of physical evidence, which we can freeze and highlight thanks to the magic of Photoshop:

The *other* person it was suggested this is actually does appear somewhere in the cinematic. That one's a little harder to spot. ;)

Heeheehee dang, someone got it already. =P

EDIT: Oh, although seeing it just reminded me that there's a question of who it is exactly, since there are two people who look like that, but only one who uses /mood regal. :o

Oooh.

*wishes he could script them to say "GF" afterwards*

Community General Discussion Hardline Bug? Re:Re:Hardline Bug? Rarebit 0 12/19/2008 20:41

DragonDude84 wrote:

So what do you do if you end up stuck somewhere, unable to move or get to a hardline?

Most people seem to take screenshots. =p

I think there's a /stuck command or something that does...something? You could also try getting a CSR there to rescue you by doing /ccr and filling out a report.

If you can get someone to invite you to their team, or invite them you your team, and they have Recall Mission Team or Recall Team Member and are in the same district as you, they could use that to teleport you to safety.

Eh probably a lot of people just run around in space for a while and then /suicide and then press the Reconstruct button, not that that's an ideal solution mind you.

Community General Discussion Hardline Bug? Re:Hardline Bug? Rarebit 0 12/19/2008 22:45

We should just make /stuck a shortcut for /suicide.

Going off of memory here, but I think you need to get the 11.3 intro ticket from your org's vendor for that item in Hampton Green.  Unfortunately, you have to be level 30 to do so.

There's no level required to obtain the 11.3.1 ticket from your org's 11.3 collector in Hampton Green.

It could be a little tricky to get there alive as a low-level character, since there are high-level gangs in that neighborhood.

a half baked story about colorful people that somehow enter the matrix and the machines are scared of them, wut?!!! I've been a machine for 2 years now and never once knew the machines to be pansies!!!!

This made me smile.

Also, careful you don't make your thread sound like a petition, since those aren't allowed according to t3h rules.

Community General Discussion server downtime?? Re:server downtime?? Rarebit 0 01/29/2009 13:40

It looks like we had a server restart to install some OS updates on those machines. It sounds like we might have another restart overnight tonight, although I think this time we might actually get some sort of notice posted if it's going to happen.

EDIT/Update: Ah, sounds like we probably won't be scheduling another one this week.

Community General Discussion "Final Surprises" Speculation Thread Re:"Final Surprises" Speculation Thread Rarebit 0 02/04/2009 00:44

I know it's easy to overlook little details, so I'll just point one out in the specific text I posted that this thread is reacting to, since a few people here seem to be getting a wee bit carried away by the various amusing comments being made:

"including a few little items that will remain secret"

Confusing, I know. =p

Community General Discussion All welcome: RAREBIT. Re: All welcome: RAREBIT. Rarebit 0 12/15/2005 10:41
Some people have asked about the origin of my handle.

1) "Welsh rarebit" is indeed a curious delicacy, and if you text/image Google for it, you will find out more than you ever wanted to know [SOE is not responsible for material you may find on Google! 8o]

I've never been to Wales (close, though!), but I am interested in it, and if I ever strike it rich somehow, I will retire there to a certain castle I've already picked out, and nurture plots to take over the world from my impregnable fortress.

2) I'm a big fan of Winsor McCay's work, much of which has echoes of the Matrix. Fer'instance:

The above is from his "Little NEmO in Slumberland" comic strip (the shifted case in "Nemo" is my own invention). He also did a strip called "Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend."

3) "Rare bit" has obvious implications in the digital world of the Matrix. SMILEY:)

(Blue symbolises trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven) They are looking at eachother while the guard in the back (machine reference) watches over them, and does his best to make sure everyone stays in line. The editor of the comic probably saw a "/" before the "dance" and removed it, thinking it was a typo.

OMG I thought that was Trinity, too! But I couldn't figure out why.
Community General Discussion All welcome: RAREBIT. Re: All welcome: RAREBIT. Rarebit 0 12/15/2005 22:39
Because I am fascinated by Matrix inter-relations, I wanted to point out of few things that sprung into my head when I first saw this panel (where are my fellow Matrix conspiracy theorists? SMILEY:

1) Morpheus.

Well, I'm sure you saw his signature on the notice. In Little Nemo in Slumberland, Morpheus was the name of the king of Slumberland.

2) The choice.

Notice the two colored buttons: one red, and one sort of greenish...blue? Red, or blue. A choice. Hmm.

3) The chandelier looks like a Zion hovercraft!

Okay, maybe not.

4) The consequence.

Picking Green(-ish blue) gets you a banquet. Perhaps with...steak?

Picking Red gets you a dance. Action. A choreographed ballet of inter-locked movement, if you will.

5) The internet tells me that Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" comic was acknowledged as a big influence on the W brothers' vision of the Matrix.

The internet also told me, I think it was from an interview with the artist, that Neil Gaiman counted Little Nemo in Slumberland among the major influences on his work.

What fun! How deep does the Rarebit-hole go? (Hm...)

Keep in mind that this panel first appeared in print eighty years ago: December 6th, 1925.

Criminey! Here I was, idly wondering whether anyone would have seen me, thinking "no, no way, I was careful"...and here we are. Should have known better, I suppose.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm not sure what or when I'll be posting, as I've been too busy working on stuff I can't talk about yet (but take it from me, you do not want to end up hand-editing quaternions...) to ask Walrus what I'm allowed/supposed to be doing here SMILEY. I figure in any case I'll probably just end up getting baited into saying something I shouldn't, but what can you do.

Thanks for the sig, Symmetric! It's better than anything I could whip up--though I warn you folks that I may inflict a hand-drawn one on you after the holidays.

Community General Discussion Update 66 Delay. Patch Notes Plz? Re:Update 66 Delay. Patch Notes Plz? Rarebit 0 02/12/2009 16:34

I just want to mention that as far as we know there isn't any kind of critical problem with the update itself, just that there's been an unavoidable delay in running one of the standard checklist items that every update has to go through before release.

Also, not really sure why they've been taking so long, but patch notes *are* being worked on.
