Syntax Crew and Faction Recruiting - Syntax HvCft Megiddo Recruiting (Machines) HvCft Megiddo Recruiting (Machines) -Collbard- 0 04/27/2008 18:04
This is Collbard, former captain of HvCft. Megiddo.  For some time I have been working alone while repairs on my ship were being made.  My ship is running on all pads again and I am looking for recruits.  Experienced operatives or Newly Awkakened operatives who seek to work for the Machinist cause are invited.  I have no current plans to join a faction and I believe in a strong tight-nit group of individuals to serve on a crew.  I will offer specialized missions/quests with appropriate rewards to operatives who chose to participate.  Please contact me here or within the Matrix ( send a message to "Collbard" ) to make arrangements.

It was a nice mission; very straightforward.  There was no witty dialogue, and felt very official.  I thought it was a bit  short and lacking substance.  See agents, see agents and get data, get virus, fight a program and place virus.  I was hoping maybe a bit more info about why the intruder is here would be revealed as opposed to what he is capable of.  Overall, thumbs up.

Even in the films programs never really died (the Oracle for instance)  We saw agents killed the films, but they returned (I guess a human killing an agent and a human with hacking powers killing an agent is a little different.)  But I think it makes sense, why wouldn't they have backups?

I loved this missions, as simple as it was.  I thought meeting with Gray was the end and I was like, "aww, short mission."  Then he sends me to the meeting (which I expected would take place in an Le or even the next cine) and I was like, "ooh schweet!"  I think being at the LE where Pace convinced Intruder to meet made this mission even more fun.  Beating up Hypatia and Bookwyrms was fun too.  Oh and explaining Hypatia's and Gray's return was nice as well.  2 thumbs up!

It would be really nice if we had a way of knowing which zones are restricted and which are not without having to go to each zone.  Something as simple as having it tell us on the atlas would be nice, or even a slash command like /restricted zones.  I realize that especially at high levels there is little/no reason to hack the access nodes, but they do offer a good bit of exp and it's just something else to do in the game, the same as trying to sync all the hardlines, except we can see which hardlines we have synced.

well, except that most programs have back-ups.  I don't really see killing an agent as that much of a problem (aside from the fact that it is essentially useless except in certain situations).  Morpheus put up a (somewhat) decent fight against an agent, and Trinity killed an agent in the first movie.  I believe Niobe and Ghost killed agents (ETM) but I could be mistaken (and admittedly I don't think it was with martial arts - had something to do with wrecking cars/electricity/etc.).  Now we have a lot more time to hone our skills within the Matrix, so we have a lot more potential against agents than redpills did Pre-Truce.  (I almost said during the war, but that would imply now...right?  That whole war still happening?)
Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline About the 'kill-an-agent' missions Re:About the 'kill-an-agent' missions -Collbard- 0 03/05/2008 13:16
Well Unlimits were actually killable, and I'm sure there have been a few cases where characters (maybe not major ones) have had their EJP disabled and killed.  Also Agent Skinner was completely deleted if I'm not mistaken.

They killed them to defend themselves. Because it was the agents who attacked first, so they run, or fought.
It the case of the missions, it is Us who go hunting them with no aparently reason to do so. The agents are used to protect the simulation, so why go for them?

About the EJP, I also think that it is a tool used only in redpills, something to do with the plug. Nor exiles nor agents have a plug, so they don't have EJP.

The only reason I see to [try] to kill any agent is for the $info they drop, but this is not the mission objetive, is it?
Does the Matrix really have limited resourses and they loose some 'something' when an Agent respawns? I hardly think so.
I just feel like hitting the water when I am sent to kill an agent. I think is useless kill something that comes back to life at will.
Yes I agree with you about movie characters killing agents for a reason rather than arbitrarily.  The only possible way I could see, "Go here and kill the agent" as useful would be as a distraction (By the way, I haven't played these kill an agent missions), as in, "go kill this agent as a distraction while so and so hacks a mainframe elsewhere", but my impression from you guys is that this is not the case.

It was nice.  Seeing the Architect so much has kind of made it lose the "The Architect!  This is really big!"-appeal, but I understand the purpose of it.  If Carlyne and Halbourn could have been set to fight each other forever it would have been pretty cool, or at least if they would have seemed angrier, but the whole operator tripping out was bizarre.  Kind of weird that so much feedback is caused by their meeting when separately there isn't much of a problem.  Also didn't seem like much happened-Halbourn is still angry and threatening, zion and Carlyne are working together, Halbourn and Carlyne are still angry.  The inability of the Architect to track The Oracle is kind of interesting I suppose.  I'll stop ranting now.

No, if you receive award tokens for completing each subchapter, you still have to do the other org's subchapters once this chapter is finished in order to get the effect award.  For the org awards, you have to finish 4 chapters, which is almost a year.  The only way you could get the award as soon as the chapter is over is to do all of the org missions during each subchapter, which would mean a lot of grinding in a two weak period- and the whole doing missions for your enemy thing.

However, it was not earth-shattering when Anome died, because he really had no character depth. He was that arrogant sumbitch from Zion that, much like the Assassin, went crazy and was wanted dead by everybody.

I'll read the rest of your post later, but I wanted to pick out this particular part. Anome and the following had no depth whatsoever because they weren't in the movie. We knew Morpheus, we knew his capabilities, his inner conscience. Anome was just.. introduced. Hell, how long have we had someone like Veil, yet we know not much about her?

I don't honestly think Rarebit is capable of creating character depth parallel to the amounts we hope for, having so many characters; but they are a necessary evil. I believe that was your point, right?
I dunno.  I think it's  hard in any video game, especially an MMO, to create a lot of depth the characters that you aren't interacting with on a frequent basis.  With most of our badies, events involved trying to kill them or their minions.  This is where the Intruder badies seem to be heading, but over a long period of time and with lots of interaction with Hal and Carl, I'd say they have a fair amount of depth to them (and still mystery).  Perhaps over the last subchapter they've become a lot more "Rawr!  Fight the programs, fight the wireframe!" But I think that was intended as Carlyne's introduction forced Hal to get a lot more aggressive.  Some part of me greatly assumes though, that these characters are probably only going to be around for another chapter at the most...Maybe I'm wrong though, we'll see.

I'm just hoping that the sentinel can pull things together.  The reinsertion was a lie thing is brilliant.  How many things in mxo have really changed how you watched the films?  They would tell Cypher whatever he wanted to hear.  I like it because it logically makes sense.  Once awakened to the truth, it is impossible to forget.  The 1999 thing to me is a different story.  It defies logic.  The Machines had no other way to keep the technology from advancing too much?  Yet, at the same time it adds another layer of creepiness.  If they can lie to the mind that well, what else are they capable of?

What I want to see is more things ingame to reflect what is going on in the story.  In this chapter, we could have accelerated or whatever enemies all around the city or at least in certain areas, not just when an event is happening.  The sentinel would have warnings of unusual gang activity and large outbreaks of violence in those areas.  They would tell the blue pills to avoid it at all costs.

Bring the story to life.

Agreed.  Subchapters would be one thing, but since a chapter lasts about 3 months I think it would be great to have some sort of system set up like, players being attacked be accelerated programs.  It would be really great if we could have some sort of collection to go with this, just to offer temporary slightly unique content each chapter.  For example, spawning enemies drop X item, item can be turned in to collector/Liason/something for some reward (org rewards would be great)

But yea, I'm basically agreeing that changes in storyline should affect changes in-game.  Things like Sky turning red-for Sati and having enemies spawn on you makes it feel a lot more like there is a story aside from a few times during the month.

Join a faction and you auto switch to that org anyway, but if you mean for yourself, then I dont think it should be easier, infact being able to drop tag then join another just to switch orgs to get into meetings etc is far from how it should be. Choosing an org should have more bearing and make you work on it more.

I suppose in that regard, probally been asked if you get a org item then swtich orgs, which item you keep/use, or even then it goes on your own rep, if it is indeed your own rep then you could get extra points even if your not on that org.

I agree that it shouldn't be really easy to switch orgs, otherwise we would havee org swappers all the time.  But 177 missions just to get enough rep to do the crits???  Even Cypher didn't have to do that much.  If there were some sort of special mission offered by each org, that could be done once.  For example, Zion switching to Mech can do a Mech missions to say gain 127 mech rep (putting it at zero) and losing Zion rep to 0.  Each org would have this mission available but a player could only do it once per org.  I dunno...177 missions to do the crits is insane.

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline The Intruder Storyline - Have Your Say! Re:The Intruder Storyline - Have Your Say! -Collbard- 0 05/26/2008 09:09
This was honestly one of my favorite storylines so far.  Although a bit over the top, the wireframe look was fine and it was explained that unawakened humans thought they were seeing ghosts (I know that happened in a Live Event and it may have happened in a critical mission, though I don't remember).  We gained some information about The Real World in the form of knowledge of human settlements, though their connection to the Machines is still uncertain (I hope this information will reveal itself in time).  We also learned of the Biological Interface Program.  As far as I know, no one is positive what it is but there is a lot of speculation (if it's purpose has been discovered fill me in!).

Carlyne was an interesting addition, as he was the figure that would obviously betray everyone's trust and become even more of a threat than Halborn; but, that isn't what happened.  Carlyne removed Halborn and just straight up left.  I think this just further creates questions about the relationship between these humans and the machines.

Perhaps we won't see the intruders anymore, but I have a feeling we haven't heard the last of them.  With the strange reappearance of Mauser, maybe we'll learn something new about the human settlements.  And we could always run into that crazy ship during a HvCFT battle.

There was a lot more to this chapter that I can't recall now, but I give it a thumbs up.
