The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Flight 93 the Movie. 911 Flight 93 the Movie. 911 Midnight 0 04/12/2006 07:22

What do you think of this movie coming out?

I think it's important to appreciate what those people on board had to do and what they sacrificed, but at the same time, I dont' think I could watch it, it's too soon.

HERES WHAT ITS ABOUT

Universal Pictures snatched up writer/director Paul Greengrass' treatment for a film based on the events aboard doomed Flight 93 on 9/11. The film, which is expected to begin production in October, will cover the flight in real time.

United Flight 93 slammed into the ground after passengers on board acted heroically and stopped the hijackers from crashing into their intended target in Washington DC. The film will trace the plane's last 90 minutes from take-off until it crashed in Pennsylvania.

I'd like to have some people who enjoy viewing movies, and giving honest opinions of films.

Anyone who wishes to participate may do so.

BE WARNED SPOILERS COULD BE INVOLVED ( Please make sure to announce at the top of your heading spoiler ahead)

I will start the thread with the movie I just saw called "Inside Man"

This movie was a really well written, crafted film. The cast was great, although Jodie Foster really was only in the film for a female perspective, and didnt really do to much, the rest was top notch.

The chemistry between Denzel and Clive Owens was amazing.

The story is a bank robbery at a New York bank but a bunch of brilliant robbers. Denzel plays the lead detective that is on the trail of the Robbers plan. Turns out half way through that the robbery may not be exactly what's on, and that there is a underlying movite behind the reason the bank is chosen.

It's a very tense, rollercoster ride of a film. Great thriller with great direction by Spike Lee.

This movie is rated R for very strong language. No real blood or gore or nudity.

I liked this film alot and I would give it a B+

My review of Scary Movie 4 will be coming Saturday.

Enjoy!

Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland has confirmed popular TV drama 24 is to hit the big screen. Sutherland, who plays federal agent Jack Bauer on the show, recently joked a spoof version would make great cinema viewing. But he now tells MTV.com plans for a straight blockbuster film are already in motion. He says, "The 24 movie would be a two-hour representation of a 24-hour day. That would be the first time that we would not do something in real time, but the characters would obviously all be derivative of the show. The timing issue is something the writers are working on right now. But the sky's the limit at that point for them, because we would not be restricted by the time element."

Well here I am at the internet terminal at the LA superior court on my lunch break. I am here to do my jury duty,, though it sucks to have to do it, there is some silver linings.

First Im right next door to the most people cathedral in LA. THe Our lady of the peace, this gigantic church with gold and marble. I went there and did a lunchtime mass and explored the huge bldg.

Second the food around here is very cheap. So I am officially a juror, I am waiting to see if Im going to be picked or sent home for the day.

Its kinda of interesting though to see what goes on in our court systems. I watch Law and Order everyweek so its nice to see how accurate they are.

Well my time is up back to the court room.

Wish me luck, and I hope to be in game sometime in the next day or so.

Recursion World Discussion - Recursion Do not forget Morpheus and his cause Do not forget Morpheus and his cause Midnight 0 11/21/2005 16:27

People do not forget him

We are losing site of important goals. True more have appeared in the time he has been gone but the end result is the same.

We must expose the machines , release those trapped in bondage, find Neo and Trinitys bodies and prepare for what we always knew  was coming. The ending of the truce, no matter what Neo wanted or what we wanted the Truce is about to be destroyed but not by the Merv or by the Zionist but by the Machines.

Agent Gray is becoming more and more radical, he is the thread you have all been afraid of. The new smith if you will, the machines who claim to want PEACE what do you think of this? Do you still believe that there can be peace when your own leader is the one about to end the truce?

Morpheus knew all along this was to happen, he told us, and he also said Neo would be found, one way or another. He knew exactly what he was doing. He pushed buttons and he did something he took action. We must do this now, take action. Be ready and prepared. All sides.

We know that something is not right, where are all these BODIES? we dont have them because they are not dead. If they were we'd have proof for bodies mean nothing to the machines. Noone wants a war but we have one about to explode so we need to be prepared.

I have not forgotten Morpheus and I urge you not to either, Morpheus was Neos friend, father figure he needs us, Neo needs us. For I believe they will both be returning to us soon. To guide us in our time of need.

Zion stand togather and brace yourself. As the Oracle told us

"Things never go just as planned, Not for Peace"

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Discussion Thread SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Discussion Thread Midnight 0 05/26/2006 06:26
When talk turns to SETI, there's one question that's as common as catfish: "We're not broadcasting to the aliens; so what makes you think they'll be broadcasting to us?"

This may strike the innocent mind as a good point. But then again, hanging out in a bar all night without uttering a word hardly ensures that I won't hear conversation. When it comes to interstellar communication, our muteness has nothing to do with theirs, except insofar as our motives for not broadcasting may be widely shared.

Is that plausible? Could it be that our reasons for not firing up the transmitters and beaming a big hola to the universe have also occurred to other galactic inhabitants, ensuring a "great silence" and grim prospects for SETI?

Maybe, but I don't think so. I believe our decision to just listen, and (perhaps) transmit later, has more to do with considerations of the moment.

The merits and pitfalls of deliberate broadcasting (as opposed to the accidental, and probably ineffectual oozing of our commercial radio and television into space) have certainly been weighed. In a recently published study ("SETI 2020: A Roadmap for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence"), there's a page of gracefully worded verbiage explaining why many SETI scientists think it's too early to throw the big knife switch and put Radio Terra on the air. Listed below are the principal arguments of this study: after all, lists are good (unless you're a ship). But after each argument, I've added a paragraph in which I consider whether aliens would come to the same conclusions we have. If not, if our reasoning is too provincial, then our decision not to send intentional signals is merely that: our decision. It will give little insight into the broadcast policies of other worlds.

Argument for not transmitting #1

It's important to note that our first contact with an extraterrestrial society probably won't be their first contact. Why? Because anyone we hear is going to be far beyond our technological level. After all, alien Neanderthals won't build microwave transmitters (or if they do, they hobble their usefulness by building them out of stone). We'll only receive a solid signal from technically accomplished societies at our level or beyond. So it's quite possible they've been engaged in planet-to-planet communication for centuries or millennia. Consequently, these societies could be using an established, galactic protocol for information interchange, an orderly way of doing things that it behooves us to imitate. Since this seems inevitable (think of the protocols for exchanging information on the internet), it would clearly be better for us to eschew transmitting. Listen first and learn the protocol. After all, we'll be new members in the galactic club.

At first flush, this sounds reasonable. If you post a web page without knowledge of HTML, it will display as fourth-rate gibberish to anyone stumbling across it. One must have standards, after all. But then again, the mere existence of a signal from Earth - appropriately formatted or otherwise - might intrigue retired aliens with time on their hands. Don't you think that if an extraterrestrial society found any transmission from us, they would spend the effort required to figure out how it's encoded, and possibly extract our message? Even new club members are allowed to talk, despite the fact that they haven't yet learned the club's secret handshake. Not being versed in the niceties of information exchange seems a rather artificial reason for our decision not to broadcast, and would be even less compelling for them. This is an argument for procrastination, not ceaseless silence. I can't imagine that all the alien societies in our galaxy are sitting on their prehensile appendages, awaiting technical manuals.

Argument for not transmitting #2

We can't afford to broadcast. After all, transmitting is comparable in cost to receiving, but unlike the latter, might not elicit a payoff for centuries. Given that SETI's budgets are anorexic, the best thing to do now is listen - a strategy that has at least a chance of an early payoff. In addition, there's no point in going on the air for a few minutes or a few hours. Any transmitting project that hopes to be heard must be persistent, which means the transmitter needs to stay warm for hundreds or thousands of years.

Well, it's true that there aren't easy resources for SETI researchers to mount major transmitting projects today. But of course, this says nothing about what the aliens might choose to do. Furthermore, it's unclear that a transmission project needs to beam away for eons. Schemes that provide some "synchronization" event - some clue as to when a society might be listening - can reduce the necessity for an unremitting 24/7 broadcast schedule. One example of such a synchronization event is when a planet passes in front of its sun as seen from another star system. But the point here is that a bit of cleverness might pay off big, allowing a short-term transmitting scheme to work as long as those you are trying to reach have a long-term interest in receiving. These sorts of considerations could make beaming signals far more attractive, at least for our more-advanced galactic brethren.

Argument for not transmitting #3

Transmitting is a "diplomatic act". Letting others know of our presence might be dangerous, and we shouldn't do it without a bit more cultural maturity. This point of view was expressed most famously in 1974 by Sir Martin Ryle (Britain's Astronomer Royal at the time) when he reacted unhappily to the well-known Arecibo demonstration broadcast of 1974. Ryle was not down with this short, three-minute message, beamed to a big ball of stars 21,000 light-years away. After all, he said, "any creatures out there [might be] malevolent or hungry."

We don't know a great deal about alien behavior or eating habits, so you could argue that Sir Martin's concern was mere paranoia. Still, there are reasonable people who would come down on the side of caution. Even if the chance that an interstellar ping would be answered with a phalanx of incoming rockets is miniscule, it's hard to guarantee that it's zero. Given the ruinous consequences, it's better to be silent and safe.

In truth, of course, we can't assume that extraterrestrial societies would be so cautious. And seriously advanced cultures could surely protect themselves by using "off-shore" transmitters or signaling schemes that don't betray their whereabouts. An argument that all aliens will be silent, premised on our analysis of their defense needs, seems weak at best.

The bottom line is this: while we can concoct various reasons why broadcasting might be inconvenient or possibly dangerous, none of the arguments proffered allows us to conclude that our reasons for silence are universally shared. We should therefore continue to keep our metal ears attuned to the skies. Someone, somewhere is surely curious enough, and brave enough, to speak up.

The "X-Men" mutants overpowered the human competition at the U.S. Memorial Day holiday box office in North America, while "The Da Vinci Code" remained the top choice overseas, according to studio estimates issued on Monday. "X-Men: The Last Stand," the final film in the Marvel comic-book trilogy, earned $120.1 million for the four days beginning May 26, distributor 20th Century Fox said.

The tally exceeded the News Corp.-owned studio's expectations and set a new record as the biggest Memorial Day holiday opener ever and the biggest debut so far this year. It had hoped the film's 3-day haul would near the $86 million debut of its 2003 predecessor "X2: X-Men United."

The three-day portion -- from Friday to Sunday -- of $103.1 million also ranks as the fourth-highest of all time. The 2002 film "Spider-Man," another Marvel property, holds the record with $115 million. "The Da Vinci Code" previously held the honors for the best opening of the year after launching last weekend to $77 million.

Columbia Pictures' hit Vatican thriller slipped to No. 2 with a four-day sum of $43 million and a total of $145.5 million. It remained the top film internationally, as weekend sales of $92 million pushed its total to $320 million. "Over the Hedge" was No. 3 in North America with $35.3 million, also down one spot.

The two-week total for the Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc.-produced cartoon rose to $84.4 million. While the "X-Men" franchise is on fire, Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible" series is on the ropes. "Mission: Impossible III" has grossed $115.8 million after four weekends. At the same stage in their cycles, 1996's "Mission: Impossible" had earned about $145 million, and 2000's "Mission: Impossible 2" $177 million. For the current weekend, the new film earned $8.6 million, ranking at No. 4.

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion What is your thoughts on Reality Shows? What is your thoughts on Reality Shows? Midnight 0 06/02/2006 06:50

I am a bit of a hypocrite (sp) on this cuz I detest Reality shows, its so easy to throw togather a cheesy show for no money and get star struck people to do them. The public eats it up and more and more real shows are getting cancelled, that sucks. It should be the other way around.

But I do watch three Reality shows myself, but couldn't care less if they were never aired again.

Those are

Bigbrother

America's Top Model

American Idol the audition phase.

Although the last two are more of a talent show vs reality.

I found a great way to discovered new music, well not me alone lol, but me as in going through MY Space and hearing local bands.

I found a great new one called Still Standing. I caught their show this weekend at the Viper Room on Sunset strip, It made me want to start a music page to see what people are listening to and what people can refer to each other.

My tastes are vast, I love just about everything but my favorite is Rock/Gothic/Alternative.

I love Evanescense their sound is so different, and their new album comes out this summer.

Anyone got any  good bands or music that you want to share?

Hey guys is their any great books you would recommend?

I just finished this one book called Bitten about the worlds only female werewolf, it was really good.

Its a series of books written by Kelley Armstrong, and I'm going to try to find the sequel in stores soon.

I also read the Da Vinci Code and loved it, very fast read.

I'm open to a new book now, any suggestions?

I admit when I heard this day was coming I was alittle spooked. Even my drivers licence expires on a weird similarity, it's 9 9 09 but flipped its 6/6/06!

I was expecting something creepy to happen and so far its just a normal day.

Is it weird that last night I had one of the best rested nights in years?

Does this impact your life or society's life? Does superstition have any reason to be real? Religion has called this day the Devils Day and alot of people will most likely act out some bad acts to associate with the day. But is it truely 666? Or just another think we created in society to scare outselves?

Good news?

Yep Kate herself confirmed today that there is a Underworld 3 in the works.

The bad news?

kate won't be in it, she said she is not in the final film and will not be suiting up as Selene. That kinda blows, how can they do a Underworld without Selene?

Community General Discussion Matrix Buffs, Explain this to me. No Blue in Game BUT... Matrix Buffs, Explain this to me. No Blue in Game BUT... Midnight 0 09/10/2005 20:58

This makes no sense to me. They say theres no blue in the matrix because it symbolizes the real life etc. And in the last two movies that makes sense but I just realized that in the first move, the color scheme is blue.

Meaning, all the soundtracks artwork and code is blue, the movie posters are all blue, and the dvd itself is blue.

So when they rereleased the box set why didnt they change the theme of the first movie to fit in with the rest of the trilogy?

Any thoughts?:smileywink:

I know right now it probably wouldn't make much sense but later down the road when CQS actual mean something, it would be nice to not only see your personal CQS but your team as well.

For the Team maybe have a place to put what you have earned for the day

For example

/details

CQS 4000

Team CQS 24

That would roll over into your personal CQS after you log out and reset to zero . Your new summary would read..

CQS 4024

I think it would be a cool thing to see what your doing as a whole team in addition to your own personal best.
