The reason you lost is because your enemy did more damage than you did. Conceptually, CR 2.0 changes from a tactics-based system to a damage-based system. In other words, your rolls don't matter as much as they used to. You can nudge them a little here or there, but they will still be all over the map. What is important is how much damage you can take and how much you can dish out. Once you get over this change, you will find that the system has not been dumbed-down at all. Classes are more balanced and how you use them matters. This will open the door to many combat strategies.

I didn't realize Hybrids were a problem in the existing system. I remember at one point having Karate and KungFu loaded at the same time would give you uber melee dmg, but that was fixed and I assumed the others were too.
Anyway, I don't like having to activate the "title buffs", but that's mostly because I'm not used to it. Right now, I have Aikido Grandmaster in the first slot on my Aikido hotbar. Once I get used to the fact I have to activate it, it'll be just like activating my other regulars (hyper-speed, evade combat, etc.). If I have to choose between the ease of the old system and the flexibility of the new system, I'd have to go with the new system. Flexibility and choice are good, and I like the fact that the new system helps differentiate players. I don't want to take anything away from that.
Regarding your design challenge, maybe you can create a way for the player to prioritize which buffs are auto-activated. I'm sure this would still be challenging, but it could be done post-CR2.0, and it sounds a lot easier than rebalancing everything to go back to passive abilities.

I'm still getting used to the new damage numbers, but I'm wondering if SMG abilities are causing too much. Against Lt. Morales (yellow-con), Controlled Burst does about 450 dmg and Full Auto Redux does almost 1500 dmg. Does this sound right compared to other trees? Granted, it is hard to pull this move off, but it is easier in interlock. Once you get it off, the fight is bascially over. By comparison, Aikido Tomo Nage does about 900 dmg the first time and 1100 dmg the second after resistance downgrades.
On the other hand, the full fight is about the same length, probably because normal MA tactics do more damage than SMG, so maybe it is balanced. What do you think?

I'm not sure, but I think they lowered the IS for that ability in Update 9. I think it's around 65 now, but I'll check for sure tonight. I haven't had much trouble causing dazed against NPCs. The hardest part about pulling that move off outside of interlock is maintaining your concentration while being pelted by bullets (I haven't leveled Concentration to 50 yet). It takes a long time to do, which may explain the high damage. Inside interlock doesn't seem to take as long, but the damage is about the same. Anyway, it is starting to sound like the SMG balance is high damage/high difficulty.

I just checked and Direct Fire now uses 50 IS and gives 35 DPS (not bad). Supposedly, melee free-fire is more likely to cause a state (dazed/staggered/off-balance) than in interlock, but I don't know if that also applies to ranged free-fire.
I tell you what, having high damage capabilities besides Hacker makes things more interesting. :smileyhappy:

In Dev Journal 01, the following was stated about spies:
Spies I’ve also been working on revising the Spy tree. There are multiple parts to the revision, which will be rolled out in phases. The first part involves timed interaction with game/mission objects such as doors and computers. This is a prelude to adding a consistent set of rules under which Invisibility works. These changes are proper solutions for the temporary measures put in place a little while ago. The last part of the rollout will be the new Spy tree itself. The design is progressing nicely and I am very happy with what we have so far. You may see the first two items before the holidays while the archetype changes are dependent on the combat revisions (see below). For some reason, I was thinking spies were going to be addressed after CR2.0, but then I noticed the new abilities in the tree. So, is CR2.0 the whole shebang for spies, or is more work planned for later? I've been wanting to create a new character that focuses on spying, but I'll need to be able to solo missions, so I'm wondering if this is taken care of in CR2.0.

In-game emails will no longer be automatically deleted from the system. (If you can't see all of yours, it's because you are a pack rat and never delete your old emails.)
Just to clarify, does this mean that emails will *never* be automatically deleted from the system? Not after 30 days, 1 year, 5 years, etc.? Sorry, but I've been burned before. :smileymad:

I started a new alt on Recursion recently, and I've been trying to level up using Spy abilities. As many of you already know, it's **bleep** near impossible to win in interlock on hard (maybe even medium) missions. I'm happy to say this is no longer a problem in CR 2.0.
However, I do wonder if it is a little too easy. I noticed NPCs are doing hardly any damage at all. At level 8 with no buffs, I can do roughly twice the damage of a level 9 NPC. I give 20-30 dmg per hit and they cause 10-15 dmg. Coupled with the fact that I have twice as much health as they do (500 vs. 275), there is no real danger, even when taking on multiple NPCs. My health rarely falls below 90%. When I put on buffed clothing, I'm pretty much invincible. While I know 2.0 is supposed to be easier at lower levels, is this right?
As a spy, I'm hoping my sneak abilities improve as I level up, because I'm still getting detected a little too easily. It seems like I should be able to inflict most damage from sneak attacks, and things shouldn't be quite so easy in interlock.

I have to take that "too easy" part back. QA makes you start over with missions, and I guess those first few missions are exceptionally easy. To test my multiple NPC statement, I took my level-8 bad-*CENSORED* down to a group of Furies. It wasn't instant death, but they eventually chipped away and killed me. From that point of view, I guess the balance is right. So, I'm good. :smileyhappy:

The patch looks good overall. One week between critical missions? Then before each mission, can we get a little movie preview for "Previously, on The Matrix Online...". :smileytongue: Seriously, while I can understand people like something to look forward to, I was never a fan of spreading out the criticals, and a week is a bit much. This story is hard enough to follow without having to remember what happened weeks before. My 2 cents.

Thanks to Stack for hosting the DN1 and Storyline content at MxO Archive. I was able to download most of the content using the free HTTrack
tool, and then made it available to Stack and Draconis. I *may*
also eventually host and maintain the content in this thread myself if
I can find the time. I'll post a message here if that
happens. In the meantime, please enjoy the hard work Stack has
done at MxO Archive.

For a short time in beta, high-level hyperjump looked like flight. I remember the rumours came out around this time, so I figured this is what people were seeing. It's also my opinion that this led to the level 25 "cap" on hyperjump, but I don't know that for a fact.
