We are sorry to announce that the ersonName w:st="on">EersonName>xternal Playtest server will not be opening until after the holidays. The team has been working hard to implement the Combat Revision 2.0 changes on our experimental branch, but there are some remaining issues that make it unfeasible to ask players to test the system at this time. We appreciate the community’s enthusiasm about testing CR2.0 and want to make sure that your first experience with the changes is a positive one.


 


The timing of making the Combat Revision 2.0 changes to the live game is based upon getting community feedback from the ersonName w:st="on">EersonName>xperimental Playtest server and having time to act upon that feedback. We believe the changes are critical to the continued success of The Matrix Online and will not be releasing the changes to the live game until they are ready. We will determine the release date of CR2.0 once we have the ersonName w:st="on">EersonName>xternal Playtest server open and the community has had time to submit feedback to the team.


 


This was not an easy decision for the team to make as we are excited about putting Combat Revision 2.0 up for the community to review. We hope you understand our reasons for delaying the opening of the ersonName w:st="on">EersonName>xternal Playtest server and appreciate your patience.

We apologize for not getting this information out earlier, but the in-game email system only stores messages for 30 days. This information wasn't communicated to the team and we failed to provide it to you or the CS team.

 

If you want to store extra items in the game, your best option is to create an ALT character on the same server and email those items to him/her. That gives you an additional 100 Inventory slots to use, along with that character's Code Archive.

On Friday January 6, 2006 The Matrix Online Community Forums will be getting a maintenance update. The total time for the maintenance is approximately 1 hour and will occur sometime between 12:00 Midnight and 4:00 AM PST (0800 hours and 1200 hours GMT). 

 

We will be updating all of the SOE communities during this time and different forums will be unavailable at different times. 

 

Please expect The Matrix Online forums to be unavailable for approximately 1 hour during the 12:00 Midnight to 4:00 AM PST maintenance window.

There is a known mission bug that allows players to repeatedly use Disable Device to gain experience points. Any players found abusing this bug will lose any XP gained through this exploit and may have other actions taken against their accounts.

The External Playtest Server is now open for testing. We did encounter an Interlock bug in testing today, but have decided to let players on to start testing and fix the bug as soon as possible.

 

In short, Accuracy isn't being added into Interlock rolls, resulting in a high number of misses during Interlock combat. At lower levels, this won't be as noticable as at higher levels. We will fix this bug as soon as possible and update the EP server. Free Attack rolls are not affected by this bug.

We were able to turn around a quick patch with fixes to the previous stability issues. While we may not have resolved all the problems, the server is back online for another go.

While the Matrix movies were rated R, The Matrix Online is rated Teen. Therefore, the forums reflect that rating in that anything that wouldn't be approved for US network television (not cable) would be against the terms of use here. As far as stories or other content that would be rated R or Mature, they cannot be posted here.


Linking to the stories posted elsewhere with an explanation of the content is acceptible. Keep in mind, however, that links to sites that would otherwise be objectionable (advertises pornography, etc.) is prohibited.

So, as I'm trolling...er...moderating the worlds forums, I find myself moving a ton of threads to the Player Events forum. I personally like having a central resource for all player-hosted events for all servers. It is also much nicer to have an active Player Events forum rather than possibly diluting it by having separate ones for each world.

 

However, I also understand that it is much easier to post event notices in specific world forums so players know where the events are being held. Even if you forget to mention the world, players can identify it by the forum it's posted in.

 

So, here's my conundrum: Is it better to have a central location for all Player Events or better to have one for each World? If there is one for each world, is it better to have an individual forum in the Player Events section or in each World forum?

 

At the moment, I'm thinking it might be nice to divide the Player Events section into one forum for each world. It puts all the notices closer to the "front" of the forums for quick reference.

 

That's my 2$i. What about you?

Anyway, we continue to have stability issues and have taken the External Playtest server offline again. We'll go through the data and fix what we find. We'll announce when we're bringing the server back online.

We've been gathering data on the stability issues all afternoon, but don't have any resolution for the problems at this time. After much deliberation, we've decided to take the External Playtest server offline for the weekend. We'll try to address these problems again after the full team is back after the holiday on Monday.

Due to some miscommunication on my part, several players were temporarily suspended from the game for using macros to mine specific Data Nodes that apparently never went away. There is much confusion on what exactly happened and what the policies are.


Data Node Mining


There are, by design, certain Data Nodes with an extremely large amount of $Info in them. Recently, many players have been hunting these nodes down to Data Mine. Given the behavior of two of these nodes, we believe they are actually not working correctly and never drain and disappear. This is why CSRs have been asking players to not mine these particular nodes.


 


As we investigate Data Nodes for a potential bug, we do ask that players avoid the following nodes:

X: -1124, Y: 5, Z: 731

Players who continue to mine these nodes after CSRs give them a warning may have actions taken against their accounts.


 


Using Macros


Using macros to perform in-game actions is, for the most part, not considered exploiting. If you wish to use macros to mine Data Nodes so you don’t have to continue clicking, that’s fine.


 


The one exception to this rule is using a macro to perform an in-game action that earns either experience points or game currency and leaving the game client to run unattended. If you’re sitting at the keyboard while the macro runs, fine. If you leave it running while you leave the keyboard, that’s not fine. This is a policy across all SOersonName w:st="on">EersonName> games and many other MMOs.


 


ersonName w:st="on">EersonName>xploits


In general, using in-game bugs to gain currency or experience repetitively is considered exploiting. Finding a bug that does so, reporting it, and never using the bug again is not considered exploiting.


 


In this case, now that we are investigating these two Data Nodes, mining them is considered an exploit; and players in the area will be asked to leave by CSRs. Also, as stated above, using macros while AFK to gain currency or experience is also considered exploiting.


 


Our Apology


Due to our miscommunication and the ensuing confusion, those players recently suspended from The Matrix Online have had those suspensions lifted. The policy was not clearly stated to players, and some statements on the forums led players to believe they were not doing anything against the rules. We apologize for the confusion and miscommunication and thank you for your understanding.

The server maintenance this morning was completed, however there were issues posting Update 40 to the game. We will instead be installing Update 40 tomorrow morning.

 

There are two separate issues that occurred during the maintenance period. The first is that the servers are having trouble connecting to the chat/email system, which makes it impossible for the game client to retrieve mail headers and buddy lists. We are working to resolve this problem and it may require a restart of the systems.

 

We also had some additional issues with the Recursion servers that we are attempting to resolve at this time. We will have all worlds up and running as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience.

Recently, there have been some programs being advertised in and out of game throughout the SOE communities.  Some of these programs are cheater programs that violate the End User License Agreement, but there are also some that report to perform feats of magic such as reduce lag.  We know of at least two of these programs to be Trojan Horses that are “keystroke loggers”.  Keystroke loggers are programs that “spy” on your computers keyboards to steal information.  These are malicious third-party programs that might even lead to identity theft. 


 


Just as a community reminder, please do not use or install third-party programs onto your computer that claim to enhance the game.  We encourage you to not install anything on your computer that does not come from a trusted source.  Please be very careful when choosing and installing programs onto your computer.

January 26th is Australia Day! This national holiday is the biggest holiday in Australia.  On this day, Australians celebrate their national heritage, remembering what is great about their culture, their community and to make a commitment for the future.


For our community members in Australia, Happy Australia Day!  We salute you!

During the early nineteenth century the anniversary was called 'Foundation Day' and was usually marked by sporting events. Horseracing was popular in the 1820s, whilst regattas became popular in the 1830s.


One of these, the Anniversary Regatta which was first held in 1836, is still held on Sydney Harbor on January 26 each year. Now called the Australia Day Regatta it is the oldest continuous regatta in the world.


A growing sense of patriotism was also being expressed in other ways. In 1824 Charles Tompson, reputed to be our first Australia-born poet, composed Wild Notes from the Lyre of a Native Minstrel.


Fifty years after Phillip landed Australia's first public holiday was announced to celebrate Foundation Day 1838. The inaugural holiday became an annual event and has continued to be held on or around January 26.
