The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Frank Miller's 300 Frank Miller's 300 Bayamo 0 09/23/2006 15:14
There's a movie being made off Frank Miller's Graphic Novel 300. A trailer was released recently for it:

Support Forums General Technical Help and Questions Broken launcher Broken launcher Bayamo 0 09/19/2007 10:12
MXO has always worked fine for me. Today out of the blue, the launcher stopped working.

When I open it, it will load to the line "Client version... xxxxx" and then stop. Doesn't even give me the option to log in.

The only other time I've had this was on my brother's computer, if I tried to open MXO on a non-admin account. But I've tried the client on both my account and the root Administrator account, and nothing works. I'm stumped. It doesn't let me do a system check, and I have tried copying the launcher.

ping to/from login.thematrixonline.com works fine.

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Personality Test Personality Test Bayamo 0 10/27/2006 21:33
Took a personality test tonight and was actually suprised how in-depth and accurate it was, especially at describing parts of me I didn't plug into the radio question boxes. I'm curious to see what other people get.

The quiz was located @ this url. You don't need a valid email to see your results, so you can plug junk in or use a *@mytrashmail.com address. Once you obtain your type and 4-letter designation, you can plug it into this site for more details.

My results:

Your Temperament is Rational.

Rationals are the problem solving temperament, particularly if the problem has to do with the many complex systems that make up the world around us. Rationals might tackle problems in organic systems such as plants and animals, or in mechanical systems such as railroads and computers, or in social systems such as families and companies and governments. But whatever systems fire their curiosity, Rationals will analyze them to understand how they work, so they can figure out how to make them work better.

In working with problems, Rationals try to find solutions that have application in the real world, but they are even more interested in the abstract concepts involved, the fundamental principles or natural laws that underlie the particular case. And they are completely pragmatic about their ways and means of achieving their ends. Rationals don't care about being politically correct. They are interested in the most efficient solutions possible, and will listen to anyone who has something useful to teach them, while disregarding any authority or customary procedure that wastes time and resources.

Rationals have an insatiable hunger to accomplish their goals and will work tirelessly on any project they have set their mind to. They are rigorously logical and fiercely independent in their thinking--are indeed skeptical of all ideas, even their own--and they believe they can overcome any obstacle with their will power. Often they are seen as cold and distant, but this is really the absorbed concentration they give to whatever problem they're working on. Whether designing a skyscraper or an experiment, developing a theory or a prototype technology, building an aircraft, a corporation, or a strategic alliance, Rationals value intelligence, in themselves and others, and they pride themselves on the ingenuity they bring to their problem solving.

Rationals are very scarce, comprising as little as 5
to 10 percent of the population. But because of their drive to unlock
the secrets of nature, and to develop new technologies, they have done much to shape our world.

Your Rational Type is Mastermind (INTJ).

Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition, it is the contingency planning or entailment organizing role that reaches the highest development in Masterminds. Entailing or contingency planning is not an informative activity, rather it is a directive one in which the planner tells others what to do and in what order to do it. As the organizing capabilities the Masterminds increase so does their inclination to take charge of whatever is going on.

It is in their abilities that Masterminds differ from the other Rationals, while in most of their attitudes they are just like the others. However there is one attitude that sets them apart from other Rationals: they tend to be much more self-confident than the rest, having, for obscure reasons, developed a very strong will. They are rather rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population. Being very judicious, decisions come naturally to them; indeed, they can hardly rest until they have things settled, decided, and set. They are the people who are able to formulate coherent and comprehensive contingency plans, hence contingency organizers or "entailers."

Masterminds will adopt ideas only if they are useful, which is to say if they work efficiently toward accomplishing the Mastermind's well-defined goals. Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, Masterminds are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, Masterminds approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity. To the Mastermind, organizational structure and operational procedures are never arbitrary, never set in concrete, but are quite malleable and can be changed, improved, streamlined. In their drive for efficient action,
Masterminds are the most open-minded of all the types. No idea is too far-fetched to be entertained-if it is useful. Masterminds are natural brainstormers, always open to new concepts and, in fact, aggressively seeking them. They are also alert to the consequences of applying new ideas or positions. Theories which cannot be made to work are quickly discarded by the Masterminds. On the other hand, Masterminds can be quite ruthless in implementing effective ideas, seldom counting personal cost in terms of time and energy.

To outsiders, INTJs may appear to project an aura of "definiteness", of self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature; its source lies in the specialized knowledge systems that most INTJs start building at an early age. When it comes to their own areas of expertise -- and INTJs can have several -- they
will be able to tell you almost immediately whether or not they can help you, and if so, how. INTJs know what they know, and perhaps still more importantly, they know what they don't know.

INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest. What prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake.

INTJs are known as the "Systems Builders" of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system an INTJ happens to be working on is for them the equivalent of a moral cause to an INFJ; both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play, as INTJs can be unsparing of both themselves and the others on the project. Anyone considered to be "slacking," including superiors, will lose their respect -- and will generally be made aware of this; INTJs have also been known to take it upon themselves to implement critical decisions without consulting their supervisors or co-workers. On the other hand, they do tend to be scrupulous and even-handed about recognizing the individual contributions that have gone into a project, and have a gift for seizing opportunities which others might not even notice.

In the broadest terms, what INTJs "do" tends to be what they "know". Typical INTJ career choices are in the sciences and engineering, but they can be found wherever a combination of intellect and incisiveness are required (e.g., law, some areas of academia). INTJs can rise to management positions when they are willing to invest time in marketing their abilities as well as enhancing them, and (whether for the sake of ambition or the desire for privacy) many also find it useful to learn to simulate some degree of surface conformism in order to mask their inherent unconventionality.

Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ's Achilles heel. While they are capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and are willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that make them so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead them in interpersonal situations.

This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense. SMILEY This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete', paralleling that of many Fs -- only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, the INTJ will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.

Probably the strongest INTJ assets in the interpersonal area are their intuitive abilities and their willingness to "work at" a relationship. Although as Ts they do not always have the kind of natural empathy that many Fs do, the Intuitive function can often act as a good substitute by synthesizing the probable meanings behind such things as tone of voice, turn of phrase, and facial expression. This ability can then be honed and directed by consistent, repeated efforts to understand and support those they care about, and those relationships which ultimately do become established with an INTJ tend to be characterized by their robustness, stability, and good communications.

Introverted iNtuition

INTJs are idea people. Anything is possible; everything is negotiable. Whatever the outer circumstances, INTJs are ever perceiving inner pattern-forms and using real-world materials to operationalize them. Others may see what is and wonder why; INTJs see what might be and say "Why not?!" Paradoxes, antinomies, and other contradictory phenomena aptly express these intuitors' amusement at those whom they feel may be taking a particular view of reality too seriously. INTJs enjoy developing unique solutions to complex problems.

Extraverted Thinking

Thinking in this auxiliary role is a workhorse. Closure is the payoff for efforts expended. Evaluation begs diagnosis; product drives process. As they come to light, Thinking tends, protects, affirms and directs iNtuition's offspring, full
equipping them for fulfilling and useful lives. A faithful pedagogue, Thinking argues not so much on its own behalf, but in defense of its charges. And through this process these impressionable ideas take on the likeness of their master.

Introverted Feeling

Feeling has a modest inner room, two doors down from the Most Imminent iNtuition. It doesn't get out much, but lends its influence on behalf of causes which are Good and Worthy and Humane. We may catch a glimpse of it in the unspoken attitude of good will, or the gracious smile or nod. Some question the existence of Feeling in this type, yet its
unseen balance to Thinking is a cardinal dimension in the full measure of the INTJ's soul.

Extraverted Sensing

Sensing serves with a good will, or not at all. As other inferior functions, it has only a rudimentary awareness of context, amount or degree. Thus INTJs sweat the details or, at times, omit them. "I've made up my mind, don't confuse me with the facts" could well have been said by an INTJ on a mission. Sensing's extraverted attitude is evident in this type's  bent to savor sensations rather than to merely categorize them. Indiscretions of indulgence are likely an expression of the unconscious vengeance of the inferior.

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Recycle hotkey OR Item vendor in Sati's Recycle hotkey OR Item vendor in Sati's Bayamos 0 08/11/2008 00:57
When you're doing lotsa boxes at once, it's imperative that all the bodies be looted... otherwise, the regionserver in Sati's Playground tends to split into 2 regionservers. And NPCs don't like crossing regionserver lines, so the boxes go horribly, horribly wrong from that point on.

So, recycling is good. But under the very laggy conditions, it's often a tedious and somewhat slow job. We have hotkeys for buy/sell for vendors, among many other things. I propose a new KeyBind be added that lets us recycle with 1 key combo. Make it require 2 or 3 keys so players don't accidentally recycle their stuff.

OR, if this is too much work/undoable for some reason, I propose that a vendor be added to Sati's playground to quickly sell extra items to. Any vendor would work, but an item vendor containing a refreshment of Toy and Sleepwalker boxes would be superb.

Ookami was fighting at Dannah East hardline tonight. I arrived in time to help kill some Blood Nobles, but the target, using Assassin, hid herself in sneak and did not reappear.

Pictures of the fight [excluding Ookami]. I will try to get factionmates to post pictures with her, if they captured any:

Ookami is growing cocky, these recent fights have only ended with her retreat. There will be a time not too far in the future when she will not escape: her demise is inevitable.

His latest album, produced by Trent Reznor, mixed by Alan Moulder, and help from Atticus Ross, simply kicks *CENSORED*. I'm not usually into rap/hip-hop, but this completely bends genres. Some songs are rap, some rap on a rock-ish track, some outright rock covers (Sunday Bloody Sunday is amazing), some ballads sung over NIN Fragile-ish tracks.

It's released in a similar scheme to Radiohead's In Rainbows, but more so: there will be no hard-copy distribution. If you choose to get it for free, you get high quality 192Kb/s MP3 and a PDF with hi-def artwork and lyrics. If you pay $5, you get a choice of 320Kb/s MP3, or outright FLAC encoding with the aforementioned PDF.

Check it out -- I thought I couldn't like this sort of stuff and after giving the album a full listen through, it's one of my favorites of the year. The last 10 tracks or so are just packed with epic win. You can download it for free @ 192kb/s, and then if you like it, go back and pay for it and get a higher bitrate. That's what I ended up doing.

Uh, so I've been listening to Aphex Twin and such for years but just recently started getting into the electro side of things when I heard Justice - DANCE.

These songs rock my world, so I figured I'd plug them...

Justice - Waters of Nazareth
Justice - DANCE

Digitalism - Zdarlight

KAVINSKY - Testarossa Autodrive

Sebastian - Walkman

Geoffrey Paris - Scene Kidz
Geoffrey Paris - Supafabulust

At the same time I'm rather new to this genre and I know there are tons of past and present DJs out there... does anyone else who's a fan of this stuff have some material to recommend?

Blindoldfreak is a side project from Alessandro Cortini (ex Nine Inch Nails). Unlike his other project Modwheelmood, which is mostly guitar driven, this is more experimental, coming near exclusively from a Buchla 200e synth. The songs are mostly droning instrumental soundscapes. It's oddly fascinating that such a range of emotions can be driven out of what seems at first to just be noise.

The first EP, "1" is up for listening on Last.fm:

Community General Discussion How do we deal with CSR issues? How do we deal with CSR issues? Bayamo 0 01/18/2006 19:18

This is a question to the higher-ups. If we had a problem with a CSR, how would we report it?

Some have said send a ticket in, but that method is flawed. If we had a complaint dealing with a specific CSR, what if that CSR read it?

Emails don't work either. A faction member of mine was talking to a CSR tonight. She sent him an email - and another CSR replied. She asked why, and was told that CSRs are allowed to check eachother's email.

I'm not looking to start any sort of flame debate on CSR issues. All I'm asking is theoretically, if a player had an issue with a Customer Support Representative, is there any safe way that could be resolved?

Vector - Hostile World Discussion - Vector Summary of Vector Machine Event Summary of Vector Machine Event Bayamo 0 06/30/2006 15:25
Day Before: Liason tells favorites that an event will happen the next day. Smaller factions and those the liason does not like are not informed. Liason informs his/her org of the event's details.

Day of (morning): Liason says something to the effect of "I need Machs on NOW." People contact eachother, eagerly anticipating what they hope will be a fun event.

Four hours later, when everyone has gotten annoyed and jacked out: Liason whispers>That's not enough people. We need more operatives. (Yeah, well I bet the Liason has no idea how few Machines are actually left...)

Six Hours Later: whisper to liason>Anything ever happening or are you just wasting our time?
Liason whispers>Stand by *cryptic RP mumbo jumbo avoids the subject*

A few more hours Later: Liason tells his/her favorites where the "event" is happening, and completely ignores his/her list of Mach leadership that he/she asked for earlier. People show up, but many are left out. For those who do manage to find the location, there are already reds there waiting, and ganking Machs as they come out of the Hardline, because someone in LESIG told their buddies insider info.

Finally, the "event" has begun. Everyone stands out in the open, doing nothing.  There's some brief remarks from a Liason, then the event is handed over to PET players - lowbies who already have the hardlines and are in the area. And so is their non-Mach affiliated factions! Coincidence? I think not. There's some talking, nothing happens at all, more stalling. The liasons disappear, and reply to questions with "Stand by," "Unknown," or "We are unable to discern that at this time."

LOCross and Systematica tell one of my faction members to eliminate Lucite, as she's hindering progress in the operation of deleting Azul. After that happens, all the Machs get upset, and the PET complains.. So now the LESIG and PET are fighting for control of the storyline. Wonderful.

Reds show up, gank people in RP clothing so they can add one CQ and increase their *CENSORED*, not caring that they're ruining the only real "content" left in this game for the other orgs, even if it's pretty bad.

Update: An hour later, still absolutely nothing has happened in terms of the event.

Tell me, what is worth paying for in this game? Mach events feel like an afterthought - Mervs get dev meetings in Org barrier clubs and cake vendors, Zion gets Kid and Shimada and all that.. the Architect has only been on once. EVER. Liason officers aren't ever on, when they are on they play favorites and sell out secrets to other orgs. LESIG isn't trustworthy. PVP isn't fun anymore... it's all Zergs or Mergs, instant call-backup or Hyperjump if you try to 1v1 somone, and when the Merg or Zerg arrives, Neuro Dart ALWAYS hits, then stacks and stacks and stacks and you're dead. There's more trash talking than ever.. you get 6v1'ed and then "owned noob," or even worse, "gf." Heh. Many people in my faction are saying multiple times a day that they hate this game, and a lot of the time I agree with them. Many lowbie mach operatives in other factions tell me every week that they're going Merv or Zion because there's not enough Machs...

So.. does any Mach still actually enjoy this game? If you took PVP out of the equation, is there anything in this game that you'd actually pay for?

Decided to finally make one of these... stuff's sequential from then to now.

Community Residual Self-Image More Useropts Options More Useropts Options Bayamos 0 03/02/2006 14:03

It's been almost three years since I originally posted this topic. It's time to, at the least, organize this thread somewhat, to provide the structure that's been lacking as well as to give a sort of overview for new players. Okay.

What are useropts? Essentially, they are state variables that modify how your game runs, which you define in a text file in your game's installation folder (typically C:\Program Files\Monolith Productions\The Matrix Online\useropts.cfg). Two notes about this file: It does not exist at first. To use useropts, you must create it. Second, don't let the "CFG" extension fool you. It is essentially a .txt file, just renamed as CFG. Lots of things are possible with useropts. You can modify your graphics to make them crisp and sparkly, or on lower end machines you can push the client to run as efficiently as possible. Basic UI modifications, defining camera and effects behavior, customizing how you see the world, and all sorts of things.

The number of useropts has always relatively remained the same, but apart from a choice few parameters given to players through autoexec.cfg, options.cfg, or Rarebit's posts, most remained unknown. I did a bit of exploration back in the day and found a slew of commands. I've released some of them, and am glad to see that many of the things posted in this thread have caught on and benefited the community's MXO experience... such as the now near-universal GreenTint RGB tweak, HackView, ShowTitleInName, et cetera.

Note: Not _all_ the parameters listed in this thread work. For a lot of the primary, very very old posts, I was just finding these settings, and had not tested many yet. Regardless, the settings exist, so I list. Some settings, like say, ones that would change the texture of weather particles (it's snowing FM-1500s?) are set to admin-only. Normal clients cannot use them. Player feedback should be a decent indicator of if something works or not, unless the command in question is some obscure setting, like the chat system's max buffer size before flush.

For those new to useropts, here is a starter useropts file with basic options. All but the first two lines are disabled. Remove the # in front of a command to turn it on. The procedure for using useropts (at basic levels, anyhow), is to set up your useropts file as you want it, save it, and then open the MXO client. With this method, you cannot change useropts settings while you are ingame. Try not to modify your advanced video options when ingame - some useropts will be modified by the automatic load of options.cfg (or the auto_#_#) settings, so you may need to relog to get your settings back. Play around with it and see what results modifying the parameters yield, then have fun testing all sorts of options

Both Epsilon and myself just logged in. We have no buddy lists. All our emails are gone. This applies for every character on the accounts.

I jacked out and back 4 times, did a full system check, and wiped my /Profiles/ directory. I'm still bugged, and all my items worth several hundred million $i are still gone.

Is anyone else getting this? -_-

*edit* M0VIE and some others are bugged as well. Good game SOE!

Just letting people know what's been going on, since I guess people aren't aware of what Brewko's been up to.

I think it's great that he's decided to take some time from what I'd guess is a busy schedule to hold fun mini-events with the players (and not just because I won stuff).

Yesterday he was at Mara Central on Vector and had a Trivia contest.

Questions, winners, and prizes:

What was the date the respec hack was introduced to the game? Nehoe, set of Beta Clothing
Who played the Oracle in The Matrix? Bayamos, Oooo Sakura Bandana.
What day did MXO transition to SOE? Bayamos, Mobius code.
Who played Apoc in The Matrix? Strykre01, Mobius code.

Grats to everyone who won, there was a pretty decent turn up of people after the system broadcast.

And of course, it ended as it always did on Vector, with the masses gathered at Brewko...

Vector - Hostile World Discussion - Vector Weird. Weird. Bayamo 0 12/22/2007 02:22
A fun little fact I never really knew was true is that anesthesia can cause temporary memory loss. I went in for surgery today to have wisdom teeth removed, got knocked out, and recalled waking up a few hours later in my bed.

I just found out that that wasn't the case... Apparently while in a semi-conscious(?) state, after I got home, before going to bed, I logged into MXO and started coding people stuff -- that's what I've been told; I've been shown the gear from one person. I was wondering why I had coder lo/clothes on when I logged in after waking up, but attributed it to a bug or something. I know of one person that I coded clothes and promised an Overdrive to (I'm nice when I'm not conscious?), but I think I'm missing a good hunk of info also. It's no big deal, as the rare items appear to all be here, and I still have most of my info. But, if I did code you something or gave you some info today, I have no recollection of that at all... so if anyone sees this for who this is the case, just let me know ingame or on AIM/Xfire please. It'd help me put the pieces together of just exactly what the hell happened SMILEY<img src=" />

Community General Discussion New Recruiting Forum Rules: Discussion New Recruiting Forum Rules: Discussion Bayamo 0 12/02/2006 13:22
I see that these new forum rules have been sprung upon the Recruiting forums, but there are a lot of holes in the rules and questions left unanswered.

For example:

What exactly counts as a bump? Is it a bump if the same player double posts, but not a bump if it's different players posting? Does *any* post at all count as a bump?

With that in mind, what about members of other factions posting in my faction's thread... does that count as a bump, or just a post? If it's just a post, how will moderators know who's in what faction? And if it counts as a bump, what's to stop Player X from going into the recruiting thread of a faction he/she doesn't like and bumping to get the thread locked?

It's great that there's some initiative to reduce spam, but is that really necessary? If we limit the amount of "spam" that occurs in recruiting threads, I think that'll just carry over to the other forums, where one isn't necessarily penalized as much for spamming. These policies don't seem to be defined that specifically.
Community General Discussion Trial Link on DN1 Trial Link on DN1 Bayamo 0 12/12/2006 17:02
Someone just sent me an IM, asking how to get into the MXO trial. When I said there was none atm, he replied "but how come on the main matrix online site it says join the trial now and lets you download the client for it ".

Obviously, if there's no trial active, it serves no purpose to have the link up on DN1 any longer (and leaving the link up will only annoy prospective customers, when they learn of how often DN1 is updated by the web team...)

Thoughts? Unless a new trial is suddenly going to spring upon us all...
