ROFLMAO! I'm as keen as anyone else here to play the EPserver... but this is one long @$$ thread of bickering and flames (as well as plenty of good comments). Especially considering that most of the time you lot are bitching about "MxO is so buggy" and now you are fighting over playing on a test server that you KNOW will be buggier than ther regular servers. I just think it's a little funny. See you there with bells on! B)

A couple of notes:
The General: A program designed for war. His original purpose was to co-ordinate troops and plan strategies in the war on humans in the Real. Is now being hunted by the Machines for actions threatening the stability of the Matrix. In particular, stealing the case of "cheat codes" from the machines and alegedly colaborating with Anome. Possibly linked to the Cypherites (named after Cypher, who wanted to be re-inserted) and the current Cypherite spy in Zion.
The Merovingian: Original purpose unknown but it is speculated that His original purpose was to relay important information collected from the physiological study of humans (medical testing results, etc...) to the Architect to assist with the construction of the Matrix. Was possibly replaced by the Oracle making him obsolete. The Architect is roumored to have supplied the Meovingian with his chateau "Spindrift" as a place to survive Matrix resets between versions. Has since used it as his refuge and has expanded it and collected extra constructs to use via his recruitment of other specialist exile programs, such as the Keymaker and the Effectuator.

When coding, select the ability you wish to code and then use the command /bits this will list all the bits you are missing. At all other times the /bits command will list all code bits, fragments and their quantities.

Zerg: Fighting with a "win by having overwhelming numbers" attitude. The term comes from Starcraft by Blizzard where the base tactic for the Zerg race was to build overwhelming numbers of low cost low strength units and simply swamp the opposition.

I have to say, as a hacker, that rollout regardless is necessary or boost evade combat so that it doesn't break on the first attack. MA interlocks a hacker and hits them with Powerless and the hacker is toast.. there is no recovery from that short of being 3 or more levels higher than the attcker or having the attacker lag-out/go to sleep. However this may all change in CR2 so I'll wait and see... and then boost my SMG skillz I guess.

of course on the same note... if an MA can't interlock a hacker then they can't fight either... so i guess fairer rolls for hackers would be cool, then I wouldn't mind fighting interlock. but like I said... I'll wait and see B)

/sigh It's odd, the Devs are top blokes as are the TSRs but so far CSRs stand out as having a serious God complex. Corrupted by power. Fiasco listing: Brewko - data miner (ok this one was 50/50 for blame factor, mining a broken/infinite node = ok for first offence, but warning to ban in 2.4 seconds... if only my car had that sort of accelleration) - Master Shadow That other CSR (forgotten name) - Joining a faction and inviting them to the white room for a party [EDIT] this is just the ones I know of, but i'm sure there's others I don't Message Edited by phi on 04-11-200603:10 PM

Just a small thought but for most "ground-breaking" landings in the Matrix movies, no more than a small area is ever damaged. EG. when morpheus' knee goes through the floor in the dojo or when he breaks the tile on the roof in the "jump" program. Only Neo really smashes the place up.
A small smash sprite projected (shadow style) or positioned fractionally above the surface landed on, and a small but of dust. Surely the textures include surface types for producing sound effects. eg: dirt, metal, concrete, wood. Right there is the 4 possible landing effects you would need. dirt (gravel, grass) = dust only. concrete = dust and smash. metal (tops of signs, warehouse roofs) = dent. wood = same as concrete (perhaps brown dust for wood and white for concrete)
If you want to talk lag, the above efects are all generated client side and can consist of as little as 4 triangles (2 per square sprite - 1 for smash and 1 for dust) and 2 maybe 3 textures depending on dust and impact textures.
If the sprites are small there will be little overhang. perhaps the code shockwave shoud start at the level of the surface impacted. Basically the shockwave is the matrix code taking the force that would normally crush bone, and displacing. So code coming out of the ground would make sense.
I would like to be able to roll out of a landing and come up running if the jump was less than, say, 75% of max distance for my level or less than 20m, however this would require the player to be holding the "forward" button upon landing to produce the roll effect. I could see why this might not be implimented, imagine landing on a thin ledge and tumbling forward on the spot.

How about just adding a /giveflower animation.
or add flower vendors, then ppl can blow $I on a couple of types of flower (a bit like holiday helpers and mero cake/snowballs)
then if you activate a flower (accounts for the different types) with a person targeted it will attempt a 2 person emote.
all the other things are there already, maybe the clubs could be redecorated for valentines.

If profiles are overwritten if there was an exit error (or whatever triggers it) then they should also back-up the data that can be overwritten.
In particular this applies to the pblip and hotbar files.
I am constantly losing my hotbar and pblip files and have to do a manual backup and restore, involving much starting / restarting of MxO.
either you pblip info needs to be stored on the server, the file needs to be replaced WHEN CORRUPT ONLY, or impliment a backup where a corrupt pblip or hotbar file reverts to last saved. These backups need to be made when either the map or hotbar config is altered. The files are tiny and so the process will be fast in a situation where you are standing still anyway.
Definately a MAJOR peeve of mine.

it gets better and requires a higher level in different districts.
too much mining in an area or time frame should spawn some sort of agent or code protection programs.
The potential for data mining to be required in some critical missions is definately there. Possibly here is a good idea... Data mining could occasionally produce rare CryptData items. Then depending on the dificulty of the node tapped the items could be decoded using the Decryption skill. the item decoded would usually be code bits or $info, but occasionally could yeild item codes that could be compiled to obtain rare artifacts. They might even turn out to be Items critical to the story... RSI fragments, messages, conversations involving LET caharacters.
Just a few ideas to get two neglected areas or the skill tree going again. Plus this will cheer up all those players that have pumped good $info into levelling the decryption skill and coding up decryption devices.

I'm not really sure as to the method used to construct clothing objects but if it's anything like other object-based games (Diablo 1 & 2 for example) then there is a couple of databases;
Item Buffs list:
- Buff Index (unique number to tell difference between objects with same name)
- Buff Prefix Name(s)
- Buff Postfix Name(s)
- Buff cost (good buffs cost more)
- Buff effect
- Buff chance (% chance to work)
Item Type List:
- Item Index (unique number to tell difference between objects with same name)
- Item Name (construction explained below)
- Item Poly-Object
- Skin Index (limited by poly-object foreign key - only skins for this object can be used)
- Buff1..9 (list of up to 9 Buffs until sum of Buff costs <= Max Buff cost)
- Item Initial Durability (a "local copy" of this is kept and decreases as items lose stability)
- Item Initial Durability equivalent name (etherial - can't be repaired, torn/cracked/dented - low durability, etc...)
- Item Creator's Name (name of person who coded this instance of this item - stored in object instance, not in template)
- Prefab Item (if set to "1" then creator's name is fixed)
- Code bits & Frags required (stuff needed to code this item - see my post in "Data Miner" as to special frags that could be obtained by decryption)
http://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/board/message?board.id=dev_roundtable&message.id=846
- Item creation cost (cost to code in $info)
Item Skin List:
- Skin Index (unique number to tell difference between objects with same name)
- Item Poly-Object (foreign key, specifies which poly-object this is for)
- Skin Name
- Skin Colour Name
- Skin Texture (the "picture" that gets wrapped on an object)
- Skin Icon (the picture that shows up on the hotbar/inventory)
*Item Name = [Item Creator] [Item Initial Durability equivalent name] [Skin Colour Name] [most costly buff prefix] [Skin Name] of [2nd most costly buff postfix]
EG:
phiAU's tattered orange arbalest's berret of speed (coded by phiAU, low durability, orange, VT bonus, berret, speed boost)
Flood's fine silk defender's bandanna of disease (coded by Flood - indicating pre-fab item possibly only obtainable in mero missions, high durability, silk bandanna skin, physical damage resistance, bandanna, chance to cause code-rot)
This naming database formula is very good for making a great many items with a limited set of game data.
Of-course I've trimmed it down a little, leaving out things like singleton/can decompile/can create, but you should get the idea.
So back to the original topic... If we had a coding system to make objects this way then that would solve the need for an "appearance shell".
Yes I am a programmer... I will now take your questions.

See my post in "Outfit Shell" as how some of these decoded reward frags could be used. http://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/board/message?board.id=dev_roundtable&message.id=859
To sum up my ideas across a couple of threads (encompases customising clothing better, decryption skill, Data Node tapping improvement):
- Tap nodes to get encrypted code objects (rare), $info, and code bits
- excessive node tapping creates difficult enemies (prevents constant farming, keeps it interesting)
- Decryption skill required to decode "encrypted code objects". your skill compared to encryption difficulty used to calculate success/failure and used to determine drops (Encrypted items from richland when decrypted by a highly skilled decrypter will succeed more often but give cruddy items - ones from downtown decoded by a lvl 15 will burn the code frequently but give better chance of good items)
- decrypted objects can be item code (can be compiled), code bits/frags/rare frags, custom clothing frags (extremely rare)
- "custom clothing frags" - ccf's (obtained by data node tapping or by reward from certain LET RSI's, Major mission rewards, etc...) are a required component to make non-buffed clothing buffed.
- coders can use ccf's to buff existing normal or below buff-limit clothing (like embue in diablo 2)
- some buffs also require many ccf's as they are special/powerful.
- some clothing can not be altered/decompiled/created
Hopefully this should prevent everyone dressing the same, give the bored lvl 50's something else to do, and make it much more difficult to tell a person's skill set by their appearance (making PvP more interesting)
A pretty nifty solution if I say so myself. Message Edited by phi on 01-05-2006 12:04 AM

You could always have a "Make macro for current outfit" button on the inventory panel. That would prevent the need to multiple copies of items and need much less coding on the devs behalf.

I do believe the user manual said that data mining would attract such attention if done to excess.

I hate to point it out, but there is a "Crew Chat" channel, just use this for private conversation.
Almost every time I jack in I sit in the loading area chatting to my crew or faction about the status of things... and funnily enough I am yet to have someone streak naked through the meeting.
Or you could just use a teamspeak/ventrillo server

I think it could be fitting... It works in any Matrix Noir story.
Also for all you doubting nellies, re-watch the films to get a feel for the matrix that can be lost after to much /radio (I lost it for a bit there) and then tell me about the posibility of a "bug" removal gone wrong (as in the Animatrix noir story, where the bug is in his eye socket)
Also... don't forget, it's just another optional accessory and there are higher priority issues with MxO than "I can't look cool enough atm". Message Edited by phi on 01-05-2006 12:44 AM
