To celebrate my MxO youtube channel hitting 70 subscribers as well as the upcoming buddy key period i've decided to take a break from my rooting through archives to visit a somewhat forgetten recent work that deserves a revival...

Now Available On YouTube!

(Link)

Another modern gem this movie combines the simple premise of a music video with the depth of a solid storyline, definately a must see.

Heck, it has to be the first time i saw the /kickdoor animation used in an MxO film so well. Major props for that alone i say SMILEY

Be sure to check this, and much, much more over at SkyJackal's Video Collection™ !

I've wondered this for a while now and finally got the guts (and boredom) to post it.

Who here would actually care if i left this game?

Now what will really get to ya afterwards is why am i actually asking? am i really just bored or am i really considering leaving?

I'll let you deside  :smileywink:

Some things i just discovered about the MxO laucher i thought id post here (dont ya just love boredom?)

- Server name has a mouse over tip box which says PvP servers will have an icon to their left.

- The server status has a mouse over tip box describing the different server starus', the interesting things are theres a status for 'character in transit' and 'character incomplete'

- Load also has a mouse over, it suggests you go for a server with a lower load, even though our characters are stuck on their servers not to mention server choice is a big part of the game and it just suggests we go for one with a lower load at the time, not very n00b friendly.

## HvCFT Leviathan broadcast signal verified ##

## Opening file… #

Greetings. This is CloudWolf, captain of the HvCFT leviathan and fellow warrior of Zion. This report was made with the purpose of detailing my recent meeting with the Oracle.

The truth is, I had actually requested her presence via an inter-matrix Broadcast transmission. Luckily for me, she must have received and deemed me worthy of her audience.

The ironic thing is this, I had waited as promised, for a good hour and a half before I eventually came to the conclusion my message must not have reached her. However, just as I was about to jack-out of the matrix and attend to my ship I got an instinctual urge to check the meeting place just once more. Needless to say, it paid off.

As I looked around the courtyard I noticed a small group of people gathered around one of the many benches. It was her, the Oracle. The group soon noticed my arrival and proceeded to call me over…

((NOTE: This log has been cleaned up and slightly edited in places as to better reflect the flow of the conversation, fix speed type errors and to generally help keep the relevance to the story.

Also, the #Area Missing# are because I forgot to make a real chat log *DOH* so I had to formulate this one myself from the screenshots I took, the missing parts are just sections that my screenies missed. So no, I’m not hiding anything, lol.))

Oracle: So the prodigal son returns. Hehe

Othinn: Ah there you are Cloud; she said you would be here.

Oracle: Glad to see you Wolf, have a seat.

CloudWolf: Greetings Oracle

TetraHelix: Good evening Oracle, its nice to finally see the legend in person *bows and smiles*

Oracle: Oh hush, you Zion people and your formalities

CloudWolf: I see you received my call.

Oracle: Morpheus was always like that too

TetraHelix: *laughs* I give respect where it is due *smiles*

CloudWolf: Aye, he was, may he rest in peace. But I, like heliz, am too one for giving respect where it due.

Oracle: Oh, it’s really coming down now

Othinn: Yes. Are you warm enough ma’am?

CloudWolf: Ah yes, the snow.

CloudWolf: Even though I know it’s not real it still chills me

Oracle: Don’t worry about me son, it’s you skinny little boys I worry about. You’ll catch your death of cold. Don’t you ever eat anything?

# Area Missing #

Oracle: Now to the reason you called me Cloud, something on your mind?

Othinn: *looks to Cloud*

CloudWolf: Indeed there is Oracle; the current situation in the matrix troubles me.

Oracle: You do seem worried boy. Just look at the creases in your brow

Oracle: What would you say is going on?

CloudWolf: Well I hope you could be of some assistance there

CloudWolf: The return of the masked men, Cryptos, Veil.

CloudWolf: A lot is happening and we don’t know enough about any of it.

# Area Missing #

Oracle: Haha, come on.

LayzAce: Some believe him to be Morpheus in a different RSI

CloudWolf: I know he was once part of the Zion cause, that is actually the reason I called you here.

Oracle: Morpheus? Oh no. goodness no.

LayzAce: Good

Oracle: And the fact he was a Zionite troubles you Cloud?

CloudWolf: Oh no, if anything it intrigues me.

CloudWolf: Oracle, I will not beat around the bush.

CloudWolf: Did u meet with Cryptos when he was with Zion? Back before the truce.

Oracle: Hmm… I don’t believe I ever did.

CloudWolf: I understand if you find it hard to remember, perhaps the Smith infection has had some affect on your memories much like your shell change…

Oracle: Haha! I hope not! But I am very old – we start to get confused, so many memories…

TetraHelix: We also know he went into the matrix for a few days and when he returned he was… changed somehow; do you know anything about that?

Oracle: I’m afraid I don’t know what happened to him

Oracle: My attentions were elsewhere at the time

CloudWolf: Understandable Oracle, even you could not have foreseen this far ahead to know the relevance.

Oracle: But…

Oracle: There is something strange about him

TetraHelix: I see… May I ask what troubles you about him?

Oracle: I can’t ‘read’ him. He doesn’t put out the usual signals.

Othinn *narrows his eyes* Interesting…

Oracle: It’s hard to know what on his mind

TetraHelix: *rolls that over in his head* so there is something different about him compared to other redpills…

LayzAce: He speaks of cypher as if he was a god, of course he’s different.

Oracle: There will always be those who have different ideals

TetraHelix: *nods* indeed

Othinn: *nods*

CloudWolf: No escaping differing opinions…

LayzAce: But cypher of all people!

LayzAce: I guess I’m just being big headed

Oracle: I suspect that Cryptos is a very conflicted man

CloudWolf: No doubt but when it comes to further information on what happened to him.

CloudWolf: What made him change so drastically. We are left at a wall.

LayzAce: Indeed

LayzAce: I just get the feeling his speeches seem a tiny bit… forced.

Oracle: Forced, hm…

TetraHelix: Almost as if he’s trying to convince himself of what he says in addition to those listening in.

CloudWolf: I personally do not believe Cryptos to be himself.

CloudWolf: It was far too sudden, his change.

Tysias: What an honour *bows*

Othinn: A person’s life can change in an instant

Oracle: It wasn’t normal, that’s for sure

Oracle: He looks to the past, not the future

ExOdus6x9: Oracle, will I ever hit lv50?

Oracle: No, you will get bugged at lv48

ExOdus6x9: Darn

Oracle: Haha! Silly. Of course you can get there.

ExOdus6x9: What’s with the jakeson?

Oracle: Jakeson? Tell me…

ExOdus6x9: Yea, he came to tabor north

ExOdus6x9: Speaking of a truce and peace for all

Tysias: He is a Cypherite, he came to us speaking about peace…

Cloudwolf: It appears there are differing opinions even within the masked.

TetraHelix: He wanted us to not be forced back into our pods but instead ‘strongly suggested’ to back.

Othinn: Everyone has different opinions, even within the same group

Oracle: I’m not sure I see the difference

Oracle: There will always be those that reject the unreality of the simulation

Oracle: It was designed that way

Oracle: Cryptos can’t change that.

# Area Missing #

Oracle: Peace takes more than words

Tysias: Must we fight though?

CloudWolf: Indeed peace is a dangerous game.

Oracle: I didn’t say that

Oracle: Fighting is a failure – a breakdown

ExOdus6x9: He said Zion and the Machines could live in peace

Oracle: I thought they were doing that already?

Tetrahelix: Fighting?

Oracle: No, living in peace.

Oracle: We have the truce, that’s what Neo fought for

CloudWolf: Peace, yes. Harmony, far from it.

Oracle: There will always be those who want to cause trouble

Oracle: Just remember they are anomalies

Oracle: Ah, the snow has stopped…

*Oracle Stands*

CloudWolf: Please, before you go.

CloudWolf: Thank you again for your time.

I do believe the log speaks for itself…

CloudWolf out

Well I'm still here, kinda.

As some of you may have realised I've been kinda lacking in my presence lately, 'why?!' i hear you scream (yeh right, lol) Well, several reasons really...

- RL is a be-arch, coursework is uncool and with my uber deadline drawing ever closer I'm finding my spare time go down the drain with catching up (maybe i should've done cw rather than my storyline stuff huh? lol)

- All the drama that went on has kinda killed my enthuiasm and to be honest interest in MxO lately...

Theres others I'm sure but can't think of em atm  :smileytongue:

But yeah, this is basically a thread explaining why I've been a little reclusive as of late (god bless boredom)

Also, for those who care, i aint leaving and have no intention of doing so anytime soon, nor am i cancelling my account for a 'break'. To hell if I'm giving up my posting privileges! lol

Oh and the storyline summaries are continuing; albeit slower than it used to be. Basically don't expect updates for a while yet...

LO, liason officer, a term i've been hearing more and more these days, as i understand it these are lesig characters who act as liasons for the main organisational players. Its understandable given the nature of the new dev team ran LET that such a thing would happen and indeed its a good step forward but what im wondering is this...

Can we make a list of all the known LOs to date, across all orgs, across all servers. It'd just be a nice little resource to have...

Kk, im guessing you all know about the missing case machine event which happned on recursion, yes yes, good good. Now as it was such a big event and tied up a loose end in the story iv decided to add it into my storyline summary, but then i hit a wall. Where does it come up in the time line, after the crits? before the crits? middle of the crits? I dont know.

So i put the question to you guys (and any devs who would be so kind), where do you consider it happened?

Surprsingly enough i have yet to see a thread on the subject of the new upcoming overhaul of DN1 (source)

Well heres the place to discuss it for ya! What do you think it will contain? How will the layout be? Is it gonna actually be any good? That sort of thing.

Personally i hope theres a big section on the games features, in game media player, combat and all that other jazz. But not just limited to gameplay features, oh no. There should totally be a section devoted to explaining the current storyline characters, a quick bio, that sort of thing. It also needs to illiterate the regular involvement they have in game. Definately should be a section devoted to the explaination and involvement of LESIG too and sure as hell there better be a section about me! Hehe.

Now i already know everyone loves the new blackness to bits but i cant just sit here and ignore it any longer, sorry.

Its too black imo. Now before ya shoot me down hear me out.

The black slacks for instance, when i put them on i see nothing but a black void, no belt, no creases or folds, just blacknes... same with most of the 'unbleached' stuff. To me, and possibly to some n00bs, it looks like a missing texture. The reason the clothes were lighter before is to give them texture, you know all those little details that make em nice like the aforementioned folds and creases.

Another example is the Unhappy G-met T-shirt, u know the one with the unhappy face, thats gone for me, its just a void of darkness unless i zoom in stupidly close then i can only just make the face out...

And no this isnt my monitor brightness, messed with all that, and contrast etc. Could be gamma settings i spose, ill look into it... then again it looks the same on screenshots i've seen so doubt thats it.

But yeah, thought i'd just voice my opinion/feedback  :smileytongue:

Right, hear me out here, i know it would be radical and change the face of vector hostile forever but check it out.

Pulled from old DN1:

When The Matrix Online launches on March 22 (March 19 for preorders), players will have a choice between normal and hostile worlds. The difference between these worlds is how Organization versus Organization (OvO) combat will be handled.

Normal
When the Truce fails on these worlds, individuals and groups aligned with an Organization may choose to take action against members of opposing Organizations. Players will be able to use an Opt-in system to participate in OvO combat.

Hostile
When the Truce fails on these worlds, the streets of MegaCity erupt in all-out war. Players can use an Opt-in system to participate in OvO combat up through level 15. At level 16 and above, characters are always set for OvO combat.

When the Truce fails is based upon the storyline progression on the worlds. But when the Truce collapses under the tension, there is no going back.

Dont you see? PvP was never intended to be happening just randomly in the streets, only under no truce. Think about it, have pvp in archives only, where it was first intended, that solves so many problems, not only for vecotr but for everywhere.

No more having to be lv50 to stand a chance at pvp as the archives have level restrictions.

No more ganking as theres safe bases in the archives

No more nubs destroying Mara C

Its more matrixy as theres no random wars breaking out the streets that makes NO sense storyline wise.

And probably most important of all, Archives are made useful and visited.

I seriously have no idea why this system never went ahead in the first place and its probably too late to change it now but for the love of all that is good it would be so great...

Community General Discussion Official hostile/non hostile realism thread. Official hostile/non hostile realism thread. cloudwolf 0 04/12/2006 10:49

Since its such a heated subject which seems to take root in a lot of threads and more often then not horribly derail them i thought we should have a thread devoted to it's discussion.

My Views:

Basics:

Hostile = Most realistic

Non-hostile = more fitting/realistic in relation to the story .

explanation:

Having constant pvp is yes, more real as in reality we can randomly attack people if we want. However, the fact and setting of the story would make such a thing well... stupid. The machines have a truce, but, as we see through almost all manner of the gameplay/story they restrict what redpills are allowed to do. As such i doubt the machines would allow such mass fighting to actually happen, yes it could but the fact of the matter is it wouldn't. People would be too afraid of the machines, they have rules in place for a purpose and to be honest, if the pvp environment was to be taken as canon the truce would already be broken. Bluepills would see the never ending fighting and question the simulation to much, not to mention the general chaos it would cause in the city, the press and unnessicary attention. Not to mention that the archives have been officially explained to been opened up for exactly these purposes, if redpills have a need to fight they do it in the archives. As for /duel that's explainable as they'd be too small and far between and probably used only in the little arenas ya find around.
Community General Discussion Every little helps. Every little helps. cloudwolf 0 04/17/2006 15:05

I did something today, something i really should do more often, something all of us should do.

I was brousing my local video games store and happened to see a copy of RFonline, front facing, out in the open, sporting its nice little front cover and £15 price tag, i looked around to find a copy of MxO (Yup, still readily available where im at) hidden away in the corner, side facing and with a lowly £3 price tag.

So what do i do? What any fan of MxO would do, i pick up said MxO box and swap it with said RFonline box.

Every little helps  :smileywink:

Kk, title explains it all really but i really think the ingame emotes menu deserves a little attention. The poor thing is radically out of date and contains only a fraction of the available emotes.

Why have a game full of all these nice animations and have em hidden away from sight?

Set em free! let our emotes have their rightful place in the ingame menu, no longer shall we be forced to type or make macros of our favorite emotes! No longer shall the emotes feel afraid to be seen! We shall show them to the world and they shall be used more!

Community General Discussion The name claim discussion thread. The name claim discussion thread. cloudwolf 0 05/04/2006 07:54

Hi ho all, Just thought i'd hare a little story with you.

I was recently looking through the dev tracker, reading our loveable rarebits replies to the ask the devs thread when i came across something more than a little disheartening.

Claimed player names... That list of names claimed by players, made no longer available for creation. That list which has remained growing since beta, to never have been cleared out, to never have any names taken away. That list which still has the names from beta, the stress tests, over a year of live and now every member of the free trial.

Rarebit tells us it is technicually possible to free names but would cause 'too much hassle', rarebit tells us he predicts that list will never have anything done to it.

That is wrong.

Having names from people who have quit, have no intention of ever returning, dont care about the game anymore, came on for a stress test / free trial for the hell of it and left, players who likely claimed cool and meaningful names, stay on the system and stay barred from use for all time.

The free trial-ers will likely find name claiming extremely difficult. Any new players will likely find name claiming extremely difficult. This game will be reduced to endless streams of l337 replacement, small x's and random numbers.

Yes, this may take 'hassle' but yes, it needs to be done. It needs to be done because its not fair on both existing costumers and future costumers, it needs to be done because the whole idea of never clearing names goes against the whole concept of mmos. People come, people go, the game will see thousands throughout its lifespan and it is only fair, only right, that half decent names should be made available.

I will make no proposals as to name clearing schemes, how long it should be claimed for etc, i leave that to you. To the the community i love, the community i have faith in, the community i don't want to see reduced to CloudWolf0928374920122222's.

Heya guys and gals, just giving you all a little heads up in regards to the next step in my storyline documentation.

Here goes,

To me, my documents are need of a desperate facelift. As i keep doing these the more they start to turn into essays rather than summaries, as such i am currently starting work on 'sprucing' up my work with an overhauled presentation.

That means a reworked layout, a nice page background, a nice new font, reworked wordart on the front page (eww at my current one, lol) and the biggest part of it all, screenshots/pics of key characters/events next to their entries to keep the documents from getting tedious and a chore to read and understand. </div>

Basically the new version will aim at being both informative and astheticly (sp?) pleasing. Of course the story and information always comes first so that'll be kept at the same level of detail i do now, all in my own words as it is now, but there will also be some nice eye candy too.

I've also got some entirely new stuff in the planning stages so keep an eye out for some new storyline goodies coming your way some time in the near future.

Well there was one for Hyper Speed (such a horrible animation that also needs toning down btw!) so why not the DoT animation?

You know, that horrible pyramid grid thing with that ghastly sound and huge smoke cloud (screenie would be apprechiated) that we get whenever we get a kind of DoT effect (kinda like poison in other games).

That has to go imo.

I personally would just love a little bolt of purple/red electricity (kinda like when we're dead) to come and go everytime we take DoT damage... That'd be swish.

Well it seems to be a revived topic as of late so why not make it official with a new thread - Yay!

So a quick explaination, E & G were old live event team characters who basically were the first representations of the cyperhite organisation. One was shot by the Assassin and spread a flame virus inbedded in his RSI, although we don't actually know if he died or not, the other we dont even know what the hell happened to him.

Since the move to SOE their story arcs have been, like many others, discontinued. Needless to say the MxO community has always wanted an official answer to these loose ends. And as of the time of posting we still have none.

The only tidbit we have is this:

"They have been dealt with as they deserved"

What do you think that means? Death? Imprisonment somewhere in the real? Something else entirely?

Feel free to use this thread to discuss the possible fate of the two original 'Masked Men'

Lil tidbit for y'all, if you watch Cinematic 1.3 frame by frame (at least the version i have downloaded) you'll notice that Morpheus' final code bomb's timer actually jumps back to 2 seconds before detonating...

Also, i apologise if this is already widely known.

" For the longest time i wouldn't believe it but then i saw it for myself "

Looking back on past events... on the DN1 archive... on Rarebit's insight... on the cinematics and on the critical missions i've come to realise something.

Chapter 1.2 was never Nightfall at all. Nightfall was simply a side story of the LET. Nightfall was never intended, or officially recognised, as a chapter in itself. The Hunt For Morpheus was the true 1.2.

Think about it, the 1.2 missions and crits directly relate to the events of The Hunt For Morpheus. 1.3's missions start with Morpheus' death. The Hunt For Morpheus' Assassin was 1.3, it was always intended to be.

Lith's schedule screwed things up a little, made things confusing but now the truth can be revealed and rectified.

But who am i to take it upon myself to change the timeline in such a way?

Tell me what you guys think.

P.S I know the quote is slightly wrong but you get the idea. :smileytongue:

Whoever said MxO is nothing like the films! :smileytongue:

Note the skin colour, outfit and facial tattoos. This merv goon from the great hall fight scene is definately an MxO lupine.

Community General Discussion Door Spam. Door Spam. cloudwolf 0 07/31/2006 09:26

I originally intended these as questions for the ask a dev thread but i thought what the hell and made a thread instead, so sue me =P

Seems opening doors is quite annoying to some people, admittedly myself included. Heck, i've seen them blamed as an entire reason for people quitting.

But how can we solve it? I first thought of an auto open system, but that was shot down by a couple of fundemental flaws and wasted dev time so i instead now support the single click. In fact, according to rarebit, this indeed used to be the system but was changed to double click when the prospect of door traps was still around. That system failed yet we're still plagued with double clicking today. I vote change it back.

P.S If for whatever reason it can't be done who else thinks 'you target [door]' should at least be removed from system messages?
