The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion New Terrorism Plot..Again New Terrorism Plot..Again Midnight 0 08/10/2006 07:33

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060810.../us_terror_plot

This is getting to be such a frustrating thing. If these terrorist would spend more time building their own countries more money on their countries they wouldn't need to go and destory other peoples.

Sure it maybe about politics and religion as well, but the bulk is about Jealousy over what Richer countries have and they want it.

I still can't get over the sight of a 10 year old walking around with a machine gun.

So Sad.

Kudos to London and Britian officials for spoiling yet another attempt at killing thousands of innocent people. Airliners were going to be used .. again.

Shuler Donner on X-Men 4 and More
Source: LA Daily News August 14, 2006

"X-Men" executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked to LA Daily News about X-Men 4, for which they would have to renegotiate with the bigger stars, and also Wolverine and Magneto:

"The newer cast members are signed, and the older cast members are not." Considering the older names involved -- Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Romijn, Famke Janssen and Anna Paquin -- that could run into a huge chunk of money.

All that's putting the cart before the wolverine, of course, since Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role as the manicure-challenged mutant superhero in his own film. "Next, we're going to do 'Wolverine,' but not before the end of the year because he's in the Baz Luhrmann film," she says of the filmmaker's untitled Australian epic with Nicole Kidman. However, "We have the script and are working on it."

Shuler Donner reports, "We also have 'Young Magneto' in development."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I like the Xmen films, the last one I didnt care for, but the charactaers I do and I hope this time they'll get it right.

I was thinking back to my childhood the other day when I heard this song on the radio and decided it would be a cool thread to list things from when we were young, whether its from High School or preschool.

And what makes you think of that age and why

I'll go first.

The year 1984 the song Electric Avenue it reminds me of Return Of the Jedi.

Why? Cuz it was playing in the car on the way back from when I just finished seeing it in the theater.

Go figure.

The song goes.

We gonna rock down to.Electric Ave

Then we take it higher

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Man arrested for death of Jon Benet Ramsey!!! Man arrested for death of Jon Benet Ramsey!!! Midnight 0 08/16/2006 14:46

Wow this is great!

All the speculation about the family was untrue all along.

Heres the story!

 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060816...jonbenet_ramsey

BOULDER, Colo. - A man suspected in the slaying of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey nearly a decade ago was arrested Wednesday in Thailand, the district attorney said.

District Attorney Mary Lacey said the arrest followed several months of work. She disclosed no details about the suspect before a news conference scheduled for Thursday.

Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the man was already being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges. CBS reported that he is 41-year-old second-grade teacher and will be brought back to the United States this weekend.

Ramsey family attorney Lin Wood said in Atlanta that he has been told that the suspect once lived in Conyers, Ga., outside of Atlanta. He would not comment on whether the Ramseys knew him, and he said he knew nothing else about the man.

Lin said the Ramseys learned about the suspect a least a month before JonBenet's mother, Patsy Ramsey, died on June 24 after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

"It's been a very long 10 years, and I'm just sorry Patsy isn't here for me to hug her neck," Wood said.

JonBenet was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the family's home in Boulder on Dec. 26, 1996.

Investigators said at one point that Patsy Ramsey and her husband, John Ramsey, were under an "umbrella of suspicion" in the slaying, but they were never charged. The Ramseys said an intruder killed their daughter. A grand jury investigation in Boulder ended with no charges.

In a statement Wednesday, John Ramsey said: "Patsy was aware that authorities were close to making an arrest in the case and had she lived to see this day, would no doubt have been as pleased as I am with today's development almost 10 years after our daughter's murder."

Wood said he and the Ramseys "have been totally amazed and impressed with the professionalism of law enforcement" under Lacy's direction. Lacy became district attorney in 2001. Over the Ramseys accused Boulder police of botching the case.

Law enforcement officials from Boulder were flying to Bangkok to present Thai authorities with documents in the slaying, officials in Washington said. They asked to remain anonymous pending an announcement in Colorado.

KUSA-TV of Denver, citing no sources, reported that the suspect has confessed to certain elements of the crime.

In 2003, U.S. District Judge Julie Carnes in Atlanta concluded that the evidence she reviewed suggested an intruder killed JonBenet. That opinion came with the judge's decision to dismiss a libel and slander lawsuit against the Ramseys by a freelance journalist, whom the Ramseys had named as a suspect in their daughter's murder. The Boulder district attorney at the time said she agreed with Carnes' declaration.

Ok first off I have to say the worst in history for award shows.

It was boring and very cheesy. Jack Black who I thought would be funny was lame.

Same ol routine.. None of the artist who deserved to win did, it was mostly unknown teeny bobber bands.

But the thing that really truly turned me off was the Britney spears /Kevin I can't rap Federline skit.

That had to be the most painful thing I have ever watched, when they were introduced there was boos and everything, and no claps after the stupid acting skit that was pretaped in some stupid hotel room. They really scrapped the bottom of the barrel for this year.

The only good performance's was Christina Aguilara  and Justin Timberlake and there pop! SMILEY

Oh well maybe next year they will put the life back into the award show.

In case you live in a bubble...
Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on *CENSORED* charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapman's were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico

I did not expect that.. so he tracks down a Wanted US fugitive for *CENSORED* and in return the Mexican goverment after three years decides they want to go after him?

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Back to School I go Back to School I go Midnight 0 09/18/2006 11:01

I am going back to school to finish my 4 year degree.

I know its weird cuz I have my music and stuff but thats never a for sure thing and my other love of police work has me really excited. There is a great internship I really want to do next year with the FBI.

My work pays for most of the cost so its really stupid to not just finish.

I found alot has changed since the last time I was in school more chances to graduate even working full time, with online classes. Which is what I'm doing for most of the classes.

Sucks to go back to school but will be better in the long run.

Anyone else still in school?

CSI Miami

CSI NY

I like CSI Miami, the atmostphere is so much more appealing and the cast seems way more connected to the victims then the others, which are cold and robotic.

Plus they have cooler cars.

CSI NY I have yet to get through one episode, its boring and stale, and lacking any real chemistry with the cast. Its like a second rate cop show to me.

I like the original seconds its a great show, just not as good as MIAMI

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Cancelled TV Shows for 2006 Cancelled TV Shows for 2006 Midnight 0 10/09/2006 10:05

 * Newest Cancellation

  • Smith (CBS)
  • Stargate SG-1 (SCI) I can't believe that was cancelled
  • Three Moons Over Milford
  • The Apprentice: Martha Stewart - This show didn't quite gel and the result of having two versions of The Apprentice on the air at the same time, seemed to weaken both.

Book of Daniel - This controversial Aiden Quinn show was cancelled before airing all of its initial six episodes. Click here for previous coverage.

Conviction - Though not technically a Law & Order spin-off, this series did feature Law & Order: SVU actress Stephanie March in her role as Chief Cabot. All thirteen episodes have aired and it won't be returning with more. The series is available on DVD.

E-Ring - Expectations for this Jerry Bruckheimer political/military drama, that starred Benjamin Bratt and Dennis Hopper, were high but never established a large enough audience. Of the 20 episodes produced, only 14 were aired. It's unclear if NBC will air these during the summer.

    Fear Factor
    - After six seasons and 142 episodes, NBC is pulling the plug on the guilty-pleasure show that's all about making contestants and viewers both scared and sick. Fans of the show can see it return in reruns on NBC in June.

Four Kings - The Seth Green comedy never caught on -- despite a large promotional campaign (alongside the better-received My Name is Earl). Seven of the 10 episodes have been aired and there are no current plans to return it to the schedule.

Heist - It seems like someone stole this show's ratings. NBC aired five of the six produced episodes of this action-adventure drama and it won't be returning.

Inconceivable - One of the early fatalities of the 2005-06 season, this doctor drama was pulled back in October of 2005. Only four of the 10 produced episodes have aired.

Joey - A ratings disappointment for the network (which may have had unreasonably high expectations), the Friends spin-off aired only 14 of its 22 second season episodes. It seems unlikely that the rest will be aired during the summer. The first season is available here.

Surface - This sci-fi series about strange sea creatures seems to have been eclipsed by ABC's Invasion (which has also been cancelled). All 15 first season episodes have aired and any plans for season two have been permanently deep-sixed. The first season is available here and you can also download Surface on iTunes.)

Teachers - This mid-season comedy about New Jersey teachers won't be returning for a new semester, uh, season.

First let me start with the positive. This is one of the best cop movies ever. Brilliantly acted and written. Twists and turns, lots of action and blood etc.

The details were really paid attention to,and it had some really funny moments provided by alec baldwin and Mark walhberg.

    The negative.
*CENSORED* was that ending?? Someone please explain to me why I invested 3 hours of my life watching this wonderfully crafted film just to have the ending completely suck????

The ending is shocking I will say NOTHING is tied up at all.. and to make matters worse they KILL all the characters in the movie one by one in some farcee type of way. It was almost cartoony and silly.
What was the purpose of that? what was the purpose of the Enevlope? The girl? etc.
What a let down for the end...

Still a great film but a wasted ended.

WASHINGTON - Movie actor Wesley Snipes was indicted Tuesday on eight counts of tax fraud accusing him of bilking $12 million from the government in false refund claims.

Snipes, 44, also failed to file tax returns for six years, according to an indictment unsealed in Tampa, Fla.

Federal prosecutors said Snipes fraudulently claimed the refunds in 1996 and 1997. It also charged him with failure to file returns between 1999 and 2004.

According to the indictment, Snipes had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients. As part of the deal, the indictment alleges, the firm, American Rights Litigators, would receive 20 percent of refunds from clients.

Snipes faces a maximum of 16 years in prison.

The superhero team includes: Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, who can elongate his body; Susan Storm / Invisible Woman, who not only can become invisible at will but can render other objects invisible; Johnny Storm / Human Torch, who can shoot fire from his finger tips and bend flame; and Ben Grimm / The Thing, a hideously misshapen monster with superhuman strength.

    Transformers

(Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Jon Voight, Bernie Mac, Tyrese Gibson, Rachael Taylor, Amaury Nolasco, Kevin Dunn, Ronnie Sperling)

Introduced in 1984, the Transformers brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the Autobots versus the Decepticons. The innovative "Robots in Disguise" resulted in a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and an animated feature film. More than 20 years later, a new generation has discovered the excitement of the Transformers brand and its legendary characters, including the two leaders of the opposing sides: Optimus Prime and Megatron. Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on the Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from IDW Publishing.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix

(Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Imelda Staunton, George Harris, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalia Tena, Kathryn Hunter, Evanna Lynch, Gary Oldman, Harry Melling, Richard Griffiths, Fiona Shaw)

Harry Potter is faced with the unreliability of the very government of the magical world and the impotence of the authorities at Hogwarts. Despite this (or perhaps because of it), he finds depth and strength in his friends, beyond what even he knew; boundless loyalty; and unbearable sacrifice

Yeah I'll on my way to Romania in 7 days!!

    Why??

    FOR THIS.

Let me tell you alittle about this awesome tour..

    Day 1
Today, life in America ends as we know it. We depart our normal, mundane existences for a paranormal, horroriffic experience on foreign soil. Join fellow friends & fiends from all over the world (and beyond!?), as we board the plane as a group. Enjoy the meals (no garlic) and on-board films on our transatlantic flight, or get some sleep (because you'll be up late howling at the moon once we begin our vacation). Maybe "the devil made you do it," but there's no turning back now - your chilling adventure to a land that time forgot has officially begun! You're in for the most fun-filled, spine-tingling time of your life (even if you are part of the undead)!

    Day 2
Land in Romania. Welcome to Eastern Europe, and a journey you will never forget! We land in legendary Bucharest, capital of Romania (first mentioned by this name in a document signed by Prince Vlad Dracula himself in the year 1459). It's 550 years later, and we find ourselves in the same unholy land. We are ghoulishly greeted by our luxury coach and we transfer to the hotel. Along the way, learn about Romania and its people, and also discover the truths, the legends, the myths and the magic of Dracula/Vlad/Transylvania. Meet your fellow travelers in our group orientation complete with full-course welcome dinner. Spend your first night at the gothic "Bulevard" hotel*** in Bucharest. If you're sensitive, pay attention: the rooms are filled with ghosts!    Day 3

Awake to the howling of wolves and depart by luxury coach to the mysterious, secluded island which is the home of the Snagov Monastery. You will cross a moat by rowboat to arrive at Vlad's tomb. The richly dressed corpse, exhumed in 1931, had been decapitated. In the place of a human skeleton was the bones of an animal. The frescos and artwork surrounding the grave are a sight to behold. Photo session outside at the giant steel crucifix. After the Isle of Snagov, transfer to the town of Bran, home of Prince Vlad's Castle. On the way we pass through the Bistritza River, recognizable from Bram Stoker's novel. We'll drive through tiny villages with violent pasts, and acres of forest-covered hills, where an impaler could easily kill thousands. We continue our journey to the famous Castle of Bran. Castle Bran is a dark, gloomy edifice towering over a bed of stone, gruesome yet beautiful as a preserved fortress. The castle, built in 1377, is an important national monument and landmark of Transylvania, due not only to the majestic beauty of the castle and the uncanny landscape, but also to the legend of Count Dracula. In the park area, there is a open-air gypsy bazaar where you will find the best selection of Dracula dolls, shirts, souvenirs & memorabilia in Transylvania. You could buy hand-woven woolen sweaters here, worth $150, for $12. Transfer to "Aro Palace" hotel**** in Brasov for 1 night's accommodations. Late night activity to be determined.

      Day 4
After a hearty (pun intended) breakfast, explore Brasov, one of three major centers in Transylvania established in Vlad's time. It was in Brasov that Vlad enjoyed his meals while hundreds of villagers died on stakes at the base of Timpa Hill. Sightseeing includes the "Black Church" before departing to Sighisoara, the best preserved medieval town in all of Europe, and birthplace of Vlad. See the true birth home where Prince Vlad was born into this world. The complete walking tour of the walled city of Sighisoara includes the gory Torture room and Witch's Trial. Photo opportunities at outdoor gravesites and historic Clock Tower. Continue on to the ancient cemetery through the haunted fully-covered wooden stairway. After the visit to Vlad's birthplace, begin the ascent up the Carpethian Mountains. Follow the path of Jonathan Harker, as described in Bram Stoker's novel, "Dracula." Watch classic horror movies on the coach, and stop for gala dinner and presentation at Jonathan Harker's Golden Crown Restaurant. If you haven't tasted blood yet, today you will be able to indulge in a unique drink: blood-red liquor, an exclusive beverage of the Golden Crown Restaurant. This is just one stop as we follow in the path of Dracula, or more accurately, the journey traveled by Jonathan Harker (in the notes of the hero's diary). We feast on a lavish full-course meal at the Romanian Coroana de Aur, perhaps even ordering the house specialty, the "Robber Steak," Jonathan Harker's ritual meal in the "Dracula" novel. We toast one another with the blood brandy. After dining and posing with the interior design (you'll see what we mean), board the coach and ascend the Borgo Pass. You will pass rivers, trees, swamps and mountains, capturing the essence of Harker's trail. You will see the Carpathian gorges which fit Stoker's description almost perfectly. Finally, you arrive at "Dracula Castle" hotel*** in
    Piatra Fantanele.
    Day 5
After breakfast, explore every nook & cranny of the castle: check out the souvenirs in the lobby shop, visit the outdoor marketplace and local cemetery, and just spend your day leisurely preparing your costume and make-up for the party at night. This would be a good day to nap & catch up on some sleep if time allows. In the evening you will partake in the one and only world-famous (or infamous) unholy Halloween night gala costume ball. Meet in the den for group photo session and venture outside the castle walls for drinks, appetizers and live gypsy musicians at the bonfire. Then, witness an actual "vampire" wedding ceremony as conducted by a local monk and his chanting nuns. You are then ready to experience the ultimate Halloween masquerade bash and late-night party. This includes music, dancing, surprise Halloween treats, and - dare we tell you - the visit to the infamous "coffin" in the depths of the Castle's dungeon. At the stroke of midnight, it's the renowned costume contest and award presentations, as covered by Discovery's Travel Channel. The partying continues until the wee hours for those in the right spirit! You may bring your cameras & camcorders to the masquerade ball, but don't be too shocked if all of the guests do not appear in your photos after you have them developed. Halloween will never be the same after you've partied in Dracula's Castle in Transylvania. Between the scary & sexy & imaginative costumes, and the unusual characters, there will be more head-turning than in an Exorcist movie. Once again, overnight accommodations at "Dracula Castle" hotel.
    Day 6
Luxury coach transfer to Sibiu, watch vintage vampire videos along the way, plus on-board terror trivia competition with prizes. Take the walking city tour in Sibiu including Liar's Bridge and Central Square. Finish the trip at the massive Evangelical Church, first built in 1300 and added to many times since then. This church, with its 5-pointed tower, hosts the largest organ in all of Romania, comprising over 6,000 pipes. We are not there for a concert, though. Instead, your destination lies behind the narthex of the church, for that is where the burial vaults are located. The stonework on the vault seals and on the various decorations throughout the church are amazingly and beautifully preserved. Two vaults hold special interest. The first vault is of Prince Mihnea the Bad, one of the sons of Vlad Dracula, who was murdered just outside the church. The second vault of interest is that of Valentini Frank, a Romanian scientist and physician. The reason this vault is so unique is because Valentini Frank is considered one of Mary Shelley's inspirations in her creation of "Frankenstein." Shelley had a number of paramours, one of whom was from Sibiu, and it was this lover who informed Shelley about Frank's life and the various lurid experiments he was reputed to have conducted. Take photos in the catacomb's chair of fears and tears. Time will be then be allotted for shopping in the city, including the second-hand stores on the side streets. Transfer to "Imparatul Romanilor hotel*** in Sibiu for one night's accommodations. Late-night activity to be determined.

    Day 7
Head north up Argus Valley and prepare yourself for yet another highlight: your visit to what most Dracula purists consider the true Castle of Dracula: Poenari Castle. Those in good shape climb the endless (1500) stairs up to the fortress, and surround yourself with the remains and ruins of Vlad's Castle. The Citadel was built in 1459 by Turkish prisoners and served as a fortress for Vlad Dracula and his family. It also provided the Romanians with a nearly unreachable point of defense in guarding the entrance to the Arges Valley. Be sure you have saved some film for this -- don't miss taking pictures of the country from atop the hill of the fortess.
Check into hotel and freshen up for our annual gala farewell dress-up dinner at "Club Dracula" restaurant with a possible surprise visit by "the Count" himself. Your final night accommodations are once again at the "Bulevard" hotel*** in Bucharest.

    Day 8
Pack, and check out. Transfer to airport. Say goodbye to the Creatures of the Night and the land of Dracula. Bid all your new kindred spirits and friends a fond farewell. By the way, if you were smitten and bitten by a local vampyric villager or fellow traveler, you may opt to fly back to America on your own. There you have it, hundred of pictures will be taken SMILEY

Looks like super marine Master Chief will have to eliminate a homicidal alien race without some very powerful allies. The Peter Jackson produced film "Halo" based on the wildly Microsoft video game, hit a huge roadblock this morning as Universal and Fox studios both announced that they have officially backed out of the film.

The studios demanded that executive producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh along with Microsoft each reduce their profit participation in the film which included a $5 million upfront payday, obviously their demands were not met.

Some insiders are speculating that the pull-out had to due with budget problems as rumors swirl that film, originally budgeted for $135 million, had already busted the cap by a whopping $65 million,

Others feel that handing a huge franchise like "Halo" to first time director Neil Blomkamp made the studios way too nervous about the film.

I was thinking about this the other day and I am not sure I would want to know.

If someone could see into your future, would you want to know.

On one hand I would so I could live life to the fulliest and really make sure I did all I wanted to in life, but on the other hand knowing when I was going to die would slowly drive me insane.

It would always be apart of my mind, and I think it would be a bad thing.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Peter Jackson says he will not be directing a movie based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novel "The Hobbit" or a planned prequel to "The Lord of the Rings."

    -AP WIRE Yahoo News

In a letter posted on Theonering.com., Jackson and partner Fran Walsh said an executive from New Line Cinema had called to tell them the studio was moving ahead with "The Hobbit" without him.

"Last week, Mark Ordesky called Ken (Kamins, Jackson's manager) and told him that New Line would no longer be requiring our services on `The Hobbit' and the LOTR `prequel,'" the 45-year-old New Zealand director wrote.

"This was a courtesy call to let us know that the studio was now actively looking to hire another filmmaker for both projects," he said.

Robert Pini, a New York-based representative for New Line Cinema, said Tuesday the studio had no comment.

New Line Cinema holds the rights to produce "The Hobbit" and Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer has the rights to distribute it.

Jackson, who shepherded Tolkien's Middle-earth saga to the screen in a series of three films, won a best-director Oscar for 2003's "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." The trilogy also includes 2002's "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" and 2001's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring."

Jackson also pulled out of the long awaited "Halo" Project.
