Well, I didn't think this would happen, but I am hanging up my guns in the Matrix Online.

I've been in game since Launch day 3 and a half years ago, a veteran of Enumerator, and an on again/off again writer on the Next Renaissance boards. Although I haven't been ingame a lot due to personal and scholastic reasons, my account has always been active. And as Much as I want to stay, I think it's time to span out a little bit more.

Before I leave, there are several people I wanted to thank here.

The first is the Network Imperium. You are by far the sickest, craziest, and mentally deranged group of players in the game. Thank you for accepting me and having me in your faction for 3 years.

A couple of shout outs to some of the players who made an impact on my experiences

Synapze- for being the cleverest one in the room
PBlade- you may not read this, but you were the best of us
SKOALMINT- you were what you were, and made no apologies and little fuss
Oranos- You were responcible for some of the strongest factions in this game, and that takes alot.
Bayamos- Although we didn't talk much, I do have alot of respect for you
Gretyl of HanzylandGretyl- Good RP, and that in Vector is compliment enough
The members of the Jokerz- you guys were and are something else.
Sharred- I wish you were here to say something snarky

Finally, I want to thank Rarebit and Walrus: You two seem to be the only ones in the big office who really care about this game and are doing something about it. You have my respect, sirs.

There are others that I've definitely forgotten, and I apologize, it's nothing personal, I'm just a space case.

You moralists need to wake up and smell your own hypocrisy. Feeling morally indignant is just a way to make yourselves feel more powerful.

Get over it...

And that power will be used to protect those without it. Mark my words.. Using redpills in theatrical staged hostilities to profit is one thing.. liquifiying bluepills and stalling while the program who did it walks free is completely unforgivable in my eyes.

Priv, as much as I agree with you, and that's considering my views as to your organizations Controller, I have to remind you that these reds couldn't hurt him, any more than I'd be able to shoot Niobe or you Cryptos if we so chose to. tTheir affiliation did not permit it.

The Merovingian must be made aware, the loss of bluepills is bad for business, both fiscal, legal, and illegal. If this gets to any of the other Orgs, they'll hunt your kind down.

I've spoken at some length with the vampiric-detective who's been tracking this thing -- we've been calling him "Mick St. John" after the vampiric detective in "Moonlight" -- and it seems the Nothing is in fact a system program that erases glitches and malfunctioning programs. Trouble is, every program that gets deleted makes it that much stronger, and considering the Exile I'm keeping in a mainframe, I got this fact tossed right into my teeth the other night.

So, it's the system's Reaper? well, at least I was close, because I think the monster in the basement, combined with the notion of Death, is analogous of Cerberus

The Lounge Matrix Universe All Machines go to Heaven? Re:All Machines go to Heaven? Shadow Griever 0 07/29/2008 19:49

I am several things: I am a lapsed catholic, I am a amateur philosopher. I personally believe that everyone's opinions (and therefore religions) are just as good as the next person's.

My belief in the Afterlife is heavily convoluted, so I won't go into it.

I believe in the spirit and the soul. I believe that the soul is that little thing that sustains us when instinct and routine cannot. I believe that animals do have this trait. You hear stories about pets running across country, through rain and garbage to find their masters, or their pets saving their masters, or likewise.

I also believe that things like Love and Hope and Faith (REAL Faith, meaning you know somethig exists because you know, not because someone told you there is) are all byproducts/criteria for these things.

Back to animals, go to a zoo, any zoo, you look at those animals that live there. Those are not the animals that exist in the wild, they have been domesticated, their spirits broken. Humans are like this too, you see the normal person, someone who is victim to routine and the will of others, there sould are broken, restrained. I say broken at best because I'm also of the belief that the soul is damned difficult to kill.

So, to the original point of this thread, if you follow this criteria, Machines (that is, Artificial Intelligence) could potentially have a soul.

I'll use the Matrix as an example: Smith had a soul, he even says it, he knew that he had to die at the end of the first movie, that it what was expected of him, but he was compelled not to, he chose (another thing that goes with a soul) to remain. In this regards, all the exiles (rogue AI's) have souls. So, if these offshoots of Machine AI can have a soul, by definition the Machines have them too, just restrained by routine.

So yeah, that's my criteria for anything that has a soul: the ability to choose to/and exceed instinct and routine.

So newbs should try to get some money early on, whilst trying to learn the ropes?

Also, I hear one of the features is that your income and growth is dependant on real time and not on ingame time. Meaning that your income and experience increases over regular time (did I get that right? lol)

OK!   I'm a big fan of EVE, recently I've stopped playing it due to some RL issues and In Game frustrations, however EVE in my personal opinion is a very good MMO, however it is not for the impatient, or for the easily frustrated (hence why I havent been playing recently) It is extreamly difficult to get a foot hold in EVE and the game truely revolves around its currency ISK (inter steller kredits) If your just starting out I highly reccomend joining a player corporation (like factions here) that is either devoted to helping new player or at least aware and helpful of new players.

As far as leveling in EVE... Leveling is unlike any other MMO. Its is all based on real time, you train one skill at a time, and that skill could take minutes, hours, days, weeks, or even over a month to finish training. The time it takes to level a skill is determined both by the level of which the skill is training (i.e. lvl 2 or 5) And by how many attribute points your character has at that time. So for example If your training Spaceship command to lvl3 it could take 3 days or 12 hours depending on how high your attributes are. The high the level, the longer it takes to train. And the higher your attributes, the less time it takes to train. All skills have a maximum level of 5.

Now here is where it gets more confusing. Each skill has certain attributes that effect it, for example if you have high preception and/or willpower atrributes, you will train weapons (and other similar skills) faster. Or on the other hand if you have high Intelligence and/or memory you'd train shields or defensive skills faster. Now... to make matters even more confusising, there are skills that are devoted to to giving you higher attributes only aswell, called "learning skills"  I reccomend anyone that plans to play eve for a while to train all thier learning skills to at least lvl 3 or 4 This will help a tremendous amount in the end.

The downside to the skill leveling system... there is a FREAKING skill for absolutly EVERYTHING in eve, so its very easy to lose track of your goals not to mention get discouraged from making any goals at all. But when you finish training those 15-20 skills over that 2 months it took to fly that brand new battleship, it will all be worth it.

As for making money in EVE, that all depends on how motivated you are and what type of things your skill points and/or reputation with NPC corporations allow you to do. Missions are the most common form of making money, but not only can that get boring, but it can be very hard if your alone (depending on the mission) Once your able to do lvl 4 missions you can start making some pretty serious money, until then tho, Im afraid its a pretty steep hill to climb, not to mention a very high hill. However there are MANY MANY more ways to make money then just missioning. Someplayers never fire one missle or lazer and are rolling in the ISK. These people make thier money on the marketplace and in contracts. As I said, EVE revolves around it's currency, and make no mistake, money is the key to this game. So again, the more motivated you are, and the harder you work, the more money your likely to make.

I would reccomend NOT buying ISK with real life money, you will no doubt be getting random EVEmails from people selling ISK for real money and that is the quickest way to get banned or other serious trouble. I've heard horror storys of people logging in to find thier ingame wallets with -10,000,000,000 ISK and trust me, thats WORSE than getting banned. There is a safe secure way to buy ISK with real money, by selling time codes. To make a long story short, you can by a time code worth 1 or more months of Subcription to eve, then sell that code to a player for in game ISK. While the EVE devs watch over this and have deemed it "ok" I would still advise against it because could still get ripped off, but mainly because it takes the fun out of the game. It's kinda like paying someone to power level your character in MxO or WoW.

Sorry if I went a bit long winded there, but as someone once told me a long time ago, I could talk all day about EVE online. The game is that deep, and has SO much to do. Just talking about it makes me wanna go back.
I love you
