The hovercraft hummed through the tunnels like any old day, broadcasting here and there without fear of retribution or consequence. “We’re coming close to the surface captain, I’m getting some strange activity reading ahead.” Analyzing the readout the captain replied, “Press on, better get a look at what’s going on up there.” Emerging from the debris the hovercraft glided towards it’s fate unknowingly.
“I’m picking up signs of life out there sir, must be a glitch or something, the ship didn’t get a full scan last time we were through home base.” And then there was life, “uh, captain, nevermind that statement, you gotta come take a look at this.” Out the viewport all he could see was the typical Machine hardware but what was that glow…I see green out there.
“What the hell is that?” exclaimed the captain, “looks like something straight out of Zion’s human history archives!” As they pressed forward there was more, organic structures sprouting from the ground in an oddly natural manner, what was the word for it? Trees…
Edging closer to the scene it became evident that there was something very strange going on here…natural life was being nourished. “Sir, how is that possible, I read that natural life was supported by sunlight.” “Well look around man, see all those lights, I’m guessing you could call those sunlamps,” said the captain. There was a wide expanse of it, trees interspersed by what was called grass and foliage, all illuminated by bright lights that gave off an emission of heat, apparently sunlamps. Every now and then what looked like a harvester would drift over; sprinkling water on the field below…
“Sir, I’m reading another hovercraft, coming in fast!” A bright comet-looking orb quickly increased in size to the left of their ship. “Sir, it’s not one of ours, it looks to be a Zion hovercraft, looks like it’s going down!” The fireball grew larger and slanted downwards…it was going towards the field of trees. “No! stop that ship right now!” screamed the captain…
The ships collided full force, crashing to the field below and exploding in a massive conflagration. The field was destroyed, the harvester crashed down, it’s supports incinerated by the blast…
I am sitting up in bed, drenched in sweat with a death grip on the side of my bunk. And then there was hope…and doubt…
…we are our own demise…
