Well, I hope this message reaches somebody - I certainly trust you didn't assume I *died* the last few months.

Commander,

I am providing whatever details I can on a rather massive engagement.  While it is somewhat uncommon that you hear from me, this engagement began with my team, so here is my format report.

Captain Nibori and I were surveying the situation with the "Piece of Blue Sky" venues that appeared in the Union Hill area.  The area was abandoned, completely, and thus, we only had one escort each (Operatives AwakenedPotato and Renesis), who were nearby.  Without any warning, we were attacked by unknown programs.  While reports of this are growing, the scope was unfathomed.  There were dozens of these "Sleepwalkers" – we were nearly overwhelmed.

I must say, the battle went fantastically well under the circumstances, Sir.  We managed to hold them off, but frankly, they kept coming.

I attempted several calls for help, which were answered by a few Zion operatives, but too few to hold our own.  AwakenedPotato fell back to a Richland data node and placed a general call for any and all assistance - which we received in enormous numbers from almost every organization.  It turned into quite a battle, Sir.  While we were reinforced by almost every side, we honestly barely got through it in one piece.  I'm told that the battle is still continuing, though with diminished numbers of enemies.

(Oh, and on a side note - those interesting red pill "security forces" that seemed so bent on policing us were, of course, nowhere to be seen when an armada attacked.  It makes me question who's behind all of this, and if these programs are in fact, working for them, rather than against them.)

Oh, and please pass this next part onto Anome.  As much as I enjoy his banter while on my missions, perhaps he should be more cautious next time he insults the overall command structure of the E Pluribus Neo extremist group.  As you can see below, their command officials chose to visit the battlescene and provide orders while the action was still going.  Despite the fact that the entire first quarter of the war was exclusively fought by members of my team, I was unable to reach any form of Zion military command.

This is the extent of the usable data I was able to observe.

Community General Discussion Aftermath of the AWR Thread: My protest (an open letter) Aftermath of the AWR Thread: My protest (an open letter) wwWizard2k 0 12/05/2005 11:35

(an open letter to the CSR's of this game)

Hello forum community,

My name is is wwWizard2k.  I am a pre-release player on the Vector server, and longtime supporter of this game.

I have no strong opinion on AWR, and yet, it is my sad duty to convey a piece of information to you.

PlatinumPlatypus, first poster in the "Save AWR" campaign, has received a life-ban from all SOE products.
(Please do not draw conclusions at this point, or partake in SOE bashing.  I am here to give you the facts as I know them).

On Saturday, December 3rd, someone using the PlatinumPlatypus account logged onto all 3 servers and began spamming "F*** SOE", "SAVE AWR" (in big colorfull text, no less).  The unknown user also harrassed all players around him using the /tell command.  This proceeded to the point where CSR's took action against the account.

I am saying "an unknown user" because, to be frank, the real PlatinumPlatypus was not even home when the incident occurred.  I play often with this person - I use Ventrilo with him.  During the time of the incident, Platinum was not on Ventrilo - having informed us that we was stepping out for the afternoon/early evening.   He returned hours later to find his account gone and lots of confused people questioning him on his actions.

How did this happen?  Apparently Platinum was using a very easy password...ie:  his name and his birthday.  Now, I'd agree with any critic saying that using a password like that is damned foolhardy.  He made a mistake choosing his password, and his reputation has been severely damaged for it.

However...

I have seen people swear after each kill, for months on end.  I have seen a single person fill whole pages of the Vector forums with spam threads and vulgar language, then be suspended, only to return days later and begin again.  I do not accept that someone can receive a permanent ban from all SOE products from one single incident, especially one where the account/player in question is not behaving rationally and has obviously been compromised.

CSR's of Sony Online Entertainment, I am asking you to please rethink your decision in this matter.  Cross-check the server logs, find out who was really using this account.  I understand that a player's password is his own responsibility, but certainly this isn't the first time an account has been hacked and a players reputation defrauded.  It is up to you to weigh this matter fairly and be understanding of the difficulties customers go through in these situations.

I am unsure if any actions will be taken against me for posting this.  Feel free to do so, if you are so inclined.  Regardless, my opinion is now on record, and my conscience is clear.

Yes ladies and gents, I've been working hard the last little while to get all this together.

I've been reading the boards and seeing a lot of people have been getting groups together to get videos of the costumes.  Gratz to everyone who is participating in that.

What I have here is a little different.  These are uneditted, unscripted clips from the "megaparty" that AWR threw on every server (the Vector version, of course).  It's essentially "what I saw" during the Vector event.

There are clips of the party, and some battles with the evil pumpkin that was right outside the club.

Why did I go through all this trouble:

1)  People always say that Vector events are on the weak side, and don't work.  This proves them wrong.

2)  AWR usually competes the 3 servers, and the other 2 servers have already claimed victory over "who had more people".  But I'll tell ya - these clips span the course of over 6 hours (even though it's only 2 minutes of footage every little while) and our party only got stronger as the night went on.

Hey everyone,

I spent an hour writing up a bit of a Matrix / wear sunscreen parody in the Vector general forums, and a lot of people thought it was hillarious - so I thought I'd share =P (call it a self-promotion if you must, but I think you'll laugh :smileyvery-happySMILEY

A Parody - by wwWizard2k (don't hate me for the length - it's a **bleep** long song).

Ladies and gentlemen of the transition of '05...
If I could offer you one tip for the future, EVADE COMBAT 1.0 would be it.  The long term benefits of Evade Combat have been proved by the media, expert developers, and players like you.

... Wheras, the rest of my advice has no basis more realiable than my own sorry attempts at carebear PVP.

I shall dispense this advice... now...

Enjoy the power and beauty of level 15; Oh, nevermind; You will probably spend 8 straight days levelling until 50.  But trust me, 35 levels later, you will look back at screenshots of yourself and recall, in a way you can't grasp, how much content lay before you, and how cool your unbuffed clothes looked... You weren't as much of a noob as you imagined.

Do one thing, everyday, that scares the devs.

Jump.

Don't be reckless with your concealment countermeasure device, and don't put up with people who are reckless with theirs.

Sneak.

Don't waste your time flaming area chat.  Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind... the gankers are everywhere, and in the end, the only game buttons that are guaranteed to work are ALT and F4.

Remember the shout-outs you received, forget the flames.  If you succeed in doing this, /tell me how.

Keep your old event items, recycle those +5% VR pants Tengu just gave you.

Dodge.

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your loadout.  The most interesting people I know didn’t know at level 22 what they wanted to do with their characters.  Some of the most interesting level 40's I know ... still don’t

Get plenty of Tactic Boosters.

Be kind to the reds, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll roleplay, maybe you won’t.  Maybe you’ll go Ballista, maybe you won't.  Maybe you'll get married to TBone and have a son called the "chosen One" who's armies of red-eyed Stormtroopers, wielding Treebanes, will defeat the Masked Agents on the continents of Auraxis...
...
What ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either.  Your choices are half chance, and in the end, we're all a bunch of life-noobs who can't go outside.

Enjoy your Code Shock 1.0, use it every way you can.  Don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the most unfair-yet-childishly-awesome ability you’ll ever load.

/Dance4…even if you have nowhere to do it but in the middle of "Zion retakes Mara - Chapter 5,972".

Read the strategy guide, even if it is no longer useful.

Do NOT compete in party beauty contests, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your LET team, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.

Be nice to faction-mates.  They are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that your buddy list will grow and shrink.  But for the precious few you convince to use Ventrilo, work hard to bridge the gaps in faction and organization.  Because the more Everquest/SWG fanboys who sign up, the more you'll need the people you knew when MxO was still Matrix related.

Play on Vector once...but, leave before it makes you hard.  Play on Syntax once, but leave, before it makes you soft.

Use the subways.

Accept certain inalienable truths: $Info will run out, the devs will nerf things.  You too will become a jaded forum troll.  And when you do, you’ll fantasize that: when you were young, $Info spilled from NPCs by the millions, the devs added daily content ... and nobody trash talked.

Respect teh Walrus.

Don’t expect the idle hardline people to support you. Maybe you have a famous faction, maybe you have a wealthy crew; but you never know when either one will switch to PlanetSide.

Send a /CCR so you can mess with your hair, or by the time the game has 8 SOE expansion packs, it will still be that weird pink-green that you thought looked cool.

Be careful whose threads you read, but, be patient with those who make them. Advice is a form of nostalgia - dispensing it is a way of fishing out a patch from beta, wiping it off, painting over the buggy parts and selling it it for way more than 'lith thought it was worth.

... ...
...

But trust me on Evade Combat…

I'm not sure what's going on, but myself and a few people  I've spoken to have noticed that the "Latest thread" next to a forum isn't reporting correctly.

The current one for Vector is "GUNZ online", which is like 8 threads down from the latest, and the current one for general is a thread I can't even find on the first page.

Vector - Hostile World Discussion - Vector A wwWizard2k Mini-Essay - Hackers and SuperPhysics A wwWizard2k Mini-Essay - Hackers and SuperPhysics wwWizard2k 0 08/21/2005 08:38

Hello Redpills:

No, this isn't one my textbook rants on the enemy organizations (that's next week).  On the advice of my therapist (AwakenedPotato), I have decided to use my unique writing style to contribute a little to forum community.

I would like to talk to you for a moment about the imbalances in this game.  There are many, many imbalances, from hacker all the way to knife thrower, but for this post, I shall focus on *one* *single* attack.

It is my hope to get people thinking, using a very concrete example, so maybe we can come up with some ... unique suggestions (other than "OMG, delete hacker and spy and coder and patcher!!!!").

In the world of the Matrix, people with evolved minds break the rules of of physics.  This makes nearly anything possible.  Yet, this is not so easy when TWO people with evolved minds attempt to break the rules, against EACH OTHER.  This causes the rules to re-apply themselves, in a more general way - something I have dubbed "super-physics".  IE:  If my mind is better at breaking the rules than yours is, I can punch you through a wall, even though you can usually dodge punches.

The code, the clothes, the punch... it's not real.  You think that's my fist?  No.  It's simply my mind versus yours.

But, then, how can we explain... devastation field?  A devastation field, used against one person, I can underrated.  It's a pretty heavy attack, that needs a pretty high level person to launch it.  So I can understand taking 1000 damage.  But what about in a crowd of 5?  Of 10?  Of 100?  How do you explain it in terms of the matrix?

Probably explanation 1:  Hackers are supreme beings.  Their minds are evolved so far, that they can overpower the will of 100 of their peers.
Refutation:  If this were so, a hacker wouldn't die after a few punches from an MA (assuming he doesn't roll out).

Possible explanation 2:  The way area hacks are designed is wrong.

Explanation:

Many hackers will be complaining at this point, saying "It's a virus, it can move to anyone".  Yes, if this was Windows XP and a common worm.  But the Matrix is a bio-computer system - it's aggregate parts (RedPills) are made up of minds, not common software.  AND - it is the HACKER that is powering the attack.  When you launch it, you LOSE IS.  It is your strength that makes the code move.

Thus, I suggest a change, to bring devastation field more in-line with the rest of the Matrix universe.  Like when an MA fights multiple people, his tactics go down... the more minds oppose him, the more his mind suffers.

SUGGESTIONS:  Make Devastation Field a dynamic attack

If a devastation field hits 10 people, then ONE of two things needs to happen (not both - that's cruel)
1)  The hacker will lose 10 x the casting IS for the attack.
2)  The devastation field strength will be divided between its hit targets.  (1000 damage, 10 targets, 5 hits = 200 damage per hit - not counting absorption).  (Note:  I do not count missed/deflected targets, to make it fair)

This is nothing new, either.  Hackers are the archmage class of MxO.  In almost every piece of literature on mages, from Raistlin to Sauromon to Emperor Palpatine, a mage using his power against armies pays a heavy toll.  Repelling hordes of attackers with his magic leaves the mage weak, broken, and aged.

A notice to hackers:  Don't **bleep**, and don't flame.  Read this post and THINK.  You can roll out after hit.  You can active hyperdodge, and you get full VD as part of your own class (as opposed to losing 20 memory spaces like us MA's do to load it).  You are far more protected against everyone than we are.  It's time to sweep the floor, and clean house with this unbalanced crap.

Comments are welcome.
