Since the world is ending in 2 months, can we give players, new and old, the opportunity to get rare items that are either no longer obtainable, or require far too much effort to farm for? Perhaps set up a vendor that sells stuff like the Area K Trench, Patcher's Headgear, org items, etc. for a small amount of $info.

I don't think anyone's going to care much that their uber-rare items are going to mean anything for the duration, so why not let everyone enjoy what they previously couldn't obtain while they still have the chance?

Desert of the Real Guides and FAQ's Data Node Spawns & Loot Tables Explained Data Node Spawns & Loot Tables Explained Symmetric 0 07/25/2007 11:45
Preface: This FAQ covers the different random spawns you may encounter while mining Data Nodes with the new tools introduced in the Update 53 hotfix. It does not detail the process of data mining or the tools required to do so. There is an excellent guide by Aquatium that explains how the Data Miner tree works. If you aren't familiar with how this new content works, read it here.

Introduction: With the Update 53 hotfix, the Data Miner tree has been given a new use, and offers new content available to all levels, with increasingly valuable rewards that can be obtained as you reach higher levels. Lower level players will often gain $info and experience from nodes, and will sometimes encounter waves of enemies. Defeating these enemies will produce a Data Cluster, which can be looted like any normal container, and usually contains either $info, code bits, code fragments, or an Experience Code Amplifier, which when used will give you an amount of experience equivalent to 10% of the XP needed to reach your next level.

Possible Encounters: Depending on the specific tool you are using, you have a chance of spawning one or more hostile NPCs while tapping a node. The more powerful the tool, the more difficult or numerous these spawns can become.

Basic Tools: These tools include Data Taps, Data Siphons, and the Data Extractor 2.0. All of these tools can be looted from NPCs and containers, and can also be decompiled and crafted.

Advanced Tools: Two tools are available to very high level players, and can only be crafted by someone who has first created the schematics for these tools and learned the recipe for that tool from the schematic. These tools are Data Extractor 3.0, and Data Scrambler 0.4.

Basic Spawns: These spawns have a chance of appearing regardless of which tool you use.
  • Gang Members: Typically Blackwoods or Furies, you will encounter a wave of 3 one-chevron gang members equal to your level, then a wave of 2 two-chevrons equal to your level, then finally a single three-chevron that is two levels above you.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • Other Exiles: Like the gang member spawns, you may also spawn several waves of Exiles, usually Lupines or Blood Drinkers. They work much like the gang member spawns in which you will get several waves of enemies of increasing difficulty.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • Security Programs: Usually spawns Tactical Security guards. Works similarly to the previous two spawns.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • Low-Level Data Sentries: Spawns about a dozen Data Sentries or Data Simulacrum that are several levels below the player's level. They usually do very little damage and are easy to solo. They usually come in one single wave.
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.
Unique Spawns: These more difficult encounters appear when you are using the higher level tools, and happen more often when you are in a higher level neighborhood, often when tapping nodes appropriate for your level. The "Requires" part means you need at least the tool of that level to have a chance of spawning that encounter. Higher level tools also work in their place.
  • Data Sentries: These Data Sentries start off as a manageable group of three to five, but an additional one usually spawns after one is killed. The final wave pits you against a Data Sentry that is usually three levels above yours.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 2.0
    • Loot: Data Extraction Permission Set. This is used to code the schematic for the Data Extractor 3.0.

  • Pandora's Box Spawns: Waves of enemies from either the first or second Pandora's Box arc will spawn in the same fashion they do when normally summoned. Soloable by a high-level player.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 2.0
    • Loot: $info, code bits, code fragments, an Experience Code Amplifier, or a Portable Signal Booster.

  • N30 AG3NTs: These pale Agents somewhat resembling Neo arrive in waves of three. Can be soloed by a skilled player. Two or more redpills makes this trivial.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Quicksilver luggable. The luggable will flag you for PvP, so be mindful of nearby hostiles when you attempt to loot it. The luggable will give you several passive bonuses, but its true use is in the recipes it contains. Right-click the Quicksilver in your inventory and select Use. You will receive:
      • Recipes for Quicksilver Gloves (male and female)
      • Recipe for Quicksilver Pill
      • Quicksilver Fragment x2

  • Zero One Taskmasters: Two Zero One Taskmasters will appear. After defeating them, you will face about five Zero One Soldiers, and then two more Taskmasters and about five Soldiers. Definitely not soloable. You will need several people to beat them.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Recipes for IS Regen Pill and Inhaler. (Unconfirmed)

  • Tengu and Gargoyle: A level 60 Tengu and Gargoyle, as well as about a half dozen level 55 exiles spawn. Absolutely un-soloable. Takes about a dozen people to clear before the timer expires.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Overdrive luggable. This luggable will flag you for PvP and provides passive bonuses. Use it to receive:
      • Recipes for Overdrive Bandanna (male and female)
      • Recipe for Overdrive Injector
      • Overdrive Fragment x2

  • Wasteland Corrupter: Spawns a level 100 Wasteland Corrupter and several Corrupteds about 3 levels higher than the player. The Corrupters require Insecticide to kill, and a lot of it.
    • Requires: Any tap. (Thanks LoTekGhost)
    • Loot: None? (Possibly bugged.)

  • Corrupted: Spawns two Corrupted, usually one or two levels below the player.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 2.0(?)
    • Loot: None. (Except for possible Corrupted Code Fragments from the Corrupted themselves.)

  • Agents: Either two level 55 Agents, or one level 65 Agent.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Data Scrambling Permission Set (from the 2x 55 Agents, used to code the Data Scrambler 0.4 Schematics), or Data Scrambler Security Key (from the level 65 Agent, used to craft Data Scrambler 0.4s after the schematic has been learned). (Thanks Aquatium & Croesus!)

  • Level 100 Agent: One level 100 Agent. Obviously difficult.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 3.0
    • Loot: Overdrive, Optimization, or Quicksilver luggables.

  • Level 255 Agent: Spawns and just falls over dead.
    • Requires: Data Extractor 0.4?
    • Loot: Whatever $info the Agent had in his pocket.
Data Clusters: In addition to the random chance of spawning enemies, you also have a chance of uncovering a Data Cluster simply by tapping nodes. Depending on which tool you use, the Data Cluster usually contains code bits or code fragments. When using the Data Extractor 0.4, Data Clusters can contain one of each type of red fragment appropriate to the node's level (i.e. a Data Cluster discovered from a high-level Data Node can contain one of each type of Subroutine fragment).

If anything new is discovered or anything in this list is incorrect, please post here and I will correct it. Once I get screenshots working on Vista I'll post pics of the different items too. SMILEY

Hope you find it helpful!

I'm noticing that the crafted Overdrive Bandanna and Quicksilver Gloves appear to have an unusually high rate of decay.

I ran three archive missions earlier with the bandanna and gloves equipped the entire time, and about halfway through the third mission, I noticed that each item had already lost half a point of stability.

I can understand that the power and "lore" behind these items may dictate that they shouldn't last as long as some other items, but the problem is that I have yet to compile one with a single point of extra purity. It's always one big green dot and zero little dots.

Is this working as intended? I'd hope that the amount of effort required, especially to get the bandanna, that they'd last a bit longer. =/

I swore to myself that I would never create one of these threads, but in light of recent events, I felt it was necessary to at least say a few things that I think merited mentioning.

I stopped playing MxO on a regular basis months ago. While I kept my account active to say hello every once in a while to the few people who have stuck around for this long, that's pretty much where my involvement in the game and the community would stop. The only times I felt like jacking in for more than a few minutes would be if it were a patch day, in which case I would check out what kind of entertainment six week's worth of development would provide, which frequently was fully experienced and exhausted within the span of no more than a couple hours.

However, as I see more and more of the people I know or once knew leave, and watch things as they change for the worse -- or as is often the case in MxO, remain the same, I no longer wish to be a part of what little is left behind. For over two years now, my $15 a month has gone into WB's, and eventually SOE's hands, in hopes that one day such a unique and extraordinary project would get the attention and respect it deserved, but that hasn't happened and never will happen. It is something that was flawed from the start, and has issues that will never be resolved in its current environment.

The only thing that keeps it alive is its small, yet dedicated community. As the overwhelming amount of applications went in to LESIG 2.0 -- mine being one of them -- showed, there are still lots of people who wish to see this game become something better than what it is. But soon after many of us found out that we would not be a part of such a thing, many of us realized that LESIG is not for the community, but for SOE. Those in LESIG are not keeping the game alive for the community, but keeping it going for SOE as unpaid employees. To me, not getting accepted was a relief, and by now I bet a lot of you who didn't get in now also feel relieved that all your hard work to date still belongs to you and not to a corporation that probably wouldn't even know nor care what your real name was if it weren't written on your credit card.

It was the final catalyst that encouraged me to finally cancel my account. That all options to breathe some interest into the game were exhausted, and I could move on to other, much better things. I know quite a lot, now, in the past, and probably in the future, feel the same way and have done the same thing. They are all better for it, for having been a part of something special, having left their mark, and having moved on to the next great thing.

There are some absolutely wonderful people who were or still are pillars of this community. If you're still a part of it, I hope you continue enjoying it as much as you possibly can. You are the game's last best hope.

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by naming individuals whom have been such great friends and supporters these past couple of years, but two groups especially worth mentioning are, of course, the Dept. of Energy, and even moreso, The Kings of Never. They are both factions full of wonderful, intelligent, creative, and supportive people who I have been proud to be a part of. Time and time again, they have shown what it means to be successful as both a faction and individuals. The DoE and KoN, as factions and as players, have won more events than any other group or single person I know, and I believe the reason is because they play fair, they play smart, and they never cheat to win. And that, I believe, is where true enjoyment of the game still comes from.

I want to wish everyone who's still here the best. I hope you continue to find something enjoyable that makes MxO worth playing, and that when it comes time to quit for one reason or another, you look back at everything you did and feel proud about it.

I know I do.

A man that has no friends has no choice but to ally with his enemies. Wouldn't you agree, Anome?

Some of us tried to be friends with you. When most operatives were ragging on you, we were there to look past the mistake and look for a solution. I'd go so far as to say that some of us...trusted you. But you let us down, big time.

I can see that ex-Zion operatives such as Musutangu and myself were right in no longer wanting to associate themselves with you. In even your most asinine of mistakes, we were once there to help break the fall. But no longer.

While I am now employed with the Machines, I have never forgotten why Captain Niobe is on her crusade to put an end to the Merovingian. At a time, a great deal of us promised to be by her side when the time had come where she held that sack of crap at gunpoint. For me, not so much as him being responsible for Morpheus' death, but for unleashing that damned Assassin on the Matrix and nearly killing us all. That is inexcusable, and now, with her efforts nearly reaching fruition, you go all turncoat on us.

Your account has been flagged for termination with the Department of Energy for crimes against the System, and at this time, the only amicable solution I can think of is to permanently discontinue your service, whether you like it or not. I'm sure Niobe feels the same way.

Hey, it's me again, Cosine.

My efforts so far have been less than fruitful. I went around asking more people today, but none of them really have any info, just theories.

The pessimists think he's being held captive in some construct somewhere. The optimists think he's just home in Zion. The realists...well, they each have their own ideas about his fate.

I was told about one interesting piece of information, though.

Much like all the other hovercraft, the equipment aboard the Adonis can only help me locate where all the crewmembers are, but the data flow is far too large to get any visual or audio data. Someone who saw him before he last jacked out mentioned that weird outfit I was talking about. That person also said he was saying some weird things...just stuff that he'd never say.

In fact, his mannerisms were reported to be a lot like that exile he had a run-in with a while ago. Uh, what's his name...The Emancipator? No...erm...The Eradicator? Aww, **bleep**, something with an E.

If you have any clues, let me know! My handle in the Matrix is OpCosine.

Recursion Next Renaissance - Recursion Have you seen my Captain? - 4/27 Have you seen my Captain? - 4/27 Symmetric 0 04/27/2006 17:42

Hi, my name's Cosine. I'm the Operator aboard The Adonis. You probably know my Captain -- his name's Symmetric.

I've been a bit worried about him lately. You see, a few days ago, during our normal morning shift, I noticed he was acting a bit...weird. He was wearing this fruity outfit, like he was going on vacation to some faraway island somewhere. When he jacked out and returned to consciousness aboard our hovercraft, he ordered we immediately return to Zion.

On the trip home, he said nothing. When we docked in Zion, he looked like he was in a hurry somewhere. I figured he just wanted to get to his dorm and get some sleep. The only thing he said to me before he'd left was that he didn't want to be disturbed.

That was several days ago.

He hasn't responded to my emails. This morning, several of us came to visit his dorm, only to find the door locked. No one responded when we banged on the door, either. We checked back a few times, but still there was no response. When we'd asked around, no one knew where he was. They hadn't seen him come or go, and they hadn't heard anything coming from his room.

"Maybe he's just tired," one of his neighbors suggested.

I'm not so sure about that.

So, today I did something I hadn't done in a long time. I jacked into the Matrix. You see, I'm one of the few pod-born humans that has been given the role of Operator. My Captain picked me because of my experience in the simluation. Granted, it's been a long time, and I'm not really up to snuff on the whole combat thing, but at least I know my way around.

I put out distress calls to certain people I know my Captain has been in contact with lately:
  • Misfit1, The Kings of Never
  • Ryumanjisen, The Kings of Never
  • Aquatium, Fallen Horizon
  • Roukan, The Collective
  • NightTrace, The Mega City Dept. of Energy
  • Return, Avidite Syndicat
Unfortunately, none of them know of his whereabouts either, or maybe they're just not telling me something. I will continue contacting close friends and associates of his to see if anyone knows anything concerning his whereabouts.

After running some routine blanket scans of the city, no traces of his RSI could be found. However, that doesn't mean he could still be out there...possibly in trouble.

I fear something terrible could have happened to him. I only hope that we can find him before it's too late.

Please, if you know anything about what could've happened to him, please let me know! If you have any information, or just need me to keep in touch with you, send me a message at OpCosine.

There's a time to deal with things personally, and then there's a time to deal with things on a strict business relationship. This is one of those times.

Some Machines call us freedom fighters who will do anything to destroy the Matrix and all of the Machine civilization. Others think we have nothing better to do than meddle in their affairs and put a stress on the Truce. But the Machine operatives who truly represent their organization -- those who joined them to help improve human-machine relationships -- know what we truly stand for.

In an effort to help continue improving the cooperation between man and machine established by the Truce, The Kings of Never have reinforced their stance on wasteful exile programs and their supporters, as well as rogue Machine and Zion operatives who insist on doing whatever it takes to wipe each other out and dissolve the Truce, to members of The MegaCity Dept. of Energy.

We will allot an amount of our resources towards helping collect delinquent payments in return for their continued support of our combined effort to cleanse the Matrix of wasteful programs and redpills.

Let this be a message to Machine operatives who think all Zionites are on a mission to destroy the Truce, and more importantly, let this be a message to Merovingian operatives who think they can find safety hiding behind the Merovingian and that fleabag, Ookami. Your time is short.

Soldiers of Zion,

The General put in an appearance on his helipad stronghold in Morrell to report the latest developments in our effort to permanently delete the Merovingian from the Matrix.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Zion Liaison Officer Merrit, and Sergeant Hartman, one of the General's commandos. After a brief introduction, the General himself appeared and greeted his soldiers. As a test of combat prowess, the General sent operatives out to neutralize the local exile gang, known as Warriors. Those who brought him 10 Red Bandanas as a token of their skill were rewarded.

Towards the end of the meeting, we were interrupted by Merovingian operatives, most of which were eliminated by several shots from the General's rifle. The rest were chased down by Zion operatives. After the General left, more Merovingian and Machine operatives appeared on the scene, as well as MadHattah, the Merovingian Liaison Officer, though they suffered defeat at the hands of the many Zion operatives in the area.

They vowed to get their revenge, however...

Recursion World Discussion - Recursion The hate needs to stop. The hate needs to stop. Symmetric 0 03/31/2006 09:10

All right, I want to address this before it gets any worse.

There is a clear line between hating someone in-character, and truly hating someone outside of the game. While many of us are used to being insulted, scrutinized, critiqued, jabbed, and poked fun at while in-character, when the hatred and disrespect spreads out-of-character and into real-world subjects, that's when the line has been crossed.

I bring this up because last night, after the Merovingian held his meeting in Club Sphinx, myself and some others were victim to some very harsh words that crossed the line between in-character inter-organizational dispute, and real-world hatred.

Before I mention what was said, let me first tell you what happened prior to the meeting. As soon as we saw MadHattah (the Merovingian liaison, for those who don't know) come online, several operatives in my faction were dispatched to find his whereabouts. Within minutes, we found him in Club Sphinx in Dannah Heights, all alone. We did not say anything to him. We tried not to make our presence known. We had no intention of disrupting the meeting. Eventually, we were teleported out of the club due to the org-lockout, so we sat patiently outside of the club.

As the Merovingian operatives started flooding in (pardon the pun), witticisms and threats were exchanged, as usual. I repeated our desire not to interrupt your meeting. Disrupting meetings is not something I advocate nor condone in my faction. Other Zion operatives saw fit to run against the invisible barrier to the club, shout things, and spam emotes, but not us. No, we sat there, patiently, waiting and listening. When the meeting ended, sure enough PvP broke out, and I joined in the fight. And this is where the line was crossed...

I won't name names, but here's just a little tidbit of what was said:

One particular Merovingian operative who never flagged, but chose to order the PvP-hot operatives said:
"Kill Symmetric!"

Plain and simple. I would've been flattered to have the "hit" put out against me if it were someone of some authority in the organization, but it was someone who has had a vendetta against me for some time.

But here's where I really got rubbed the wrong way:
"No, don't kill him...just stop listening to RMC"
"Yeah, listen to Exile Radio instead!"

I'll be the first to admit that as many friends as I have made in this game, I have also earned my fair share of enemies. Whether it was intentional or accidental, I've probably gotten on a few people's bad side. Just like in the real world, not everyone can get along in a game. But when things like this are said, the line between friendly competition and roleplay and downright hatred is crossed.

I put a lot of time and work into what I do for Radio MegaCity. But my effort pales in comparison to the DJs that frequently do three-hour sets to keep people entertained. Because of some silly vendetta against me, people are advocating the boycott of a project me and many others gladly pay almost $200 a month for, out of pocket. Because of some silly vendetta against me, all the hard work that happens every day at RMC is slandered and disrespected.

Whatever you have against me, I don't really care what I did, or why, but don't take it out on people that aren't responsible.

With that, I offer you my sincerest apologies for whatever I did or said to get on your bad side, and I hope things like this don't happen again.

Eh, why not? I wouldn't consider myself the all-knowing master of CR2.0, but I know enough to answer most questions that will probably be asked about it.

So go ahead, ask me a question about CR2.0, and I'll provide you with the best answer I can!

Recursion World Discussion - Recursion A special thank you to Recursion A special thank you to Recursion Symmetric 0 03/24/2006 13:40
As you may be aware, I recently announced Radio MegaCity's server expansion and live event coverage in this thread.

While there were many factors that contributed to our success, it goes without saying (or maybe it does) that the Recursion community is one of the biggest contributors to our growth, especially in the early days.

For those who don't know, Radio MegaCity first started as a very small station on Recursion known as King Radio, which was a little product designed by a factionmate and good friend of mine, Xeonix, to entertain us and our friends. With the dissolution of some of the other MxO radio stations, we had the idea of making our station public, and we called it Radio MegaCity.

Word soon spread in the Recursion community, and players from many different factions belonging to all three organizations began tuning in, and we had DJs from every organization as well.

For a long time, Radio MegaCity was quite isolated from the other two servers, and for our first several months, RMC catered mainly to the Recursion community. While we now have DJs and listeners from all three servers, we haven't forgotten just how important and supportive the Recursion community has been, and continues to be.

On behalf of the RMC staff, especially those from Recursion who have been with us from the beginning, I want to thank everyone from Recursion who has supported us in the past, tunes in today, and hopefully will continue to listen to us in the future. We couldn't have done it without you. Thank you. SMILEY

Radio MegaCity is proud to announce that we are expanding!

That's right, after almost half a year of entertaining the denizens of MegaCity and The Matrix Online community, Radio MegaCity is ready to announce our next big step forward!

Radio MegaCity started as a wishful endeavor, formed by a small group of players on Recursion. We have since grown drastically, gathering listeners and DJs from all three instances of the Matrix, and all over the world. As our fanbase continues to grow, so must our resources.

Lately, our server has been reaching its capacity of 60 listeners on a daily basis. While we are incredibly happy to hear that so many listeners are tuning in, it also means that anyone else who trys to listen in unfortunately is unable to. Something had to be done.

Therefore, we are very happy to announce that Radio MegaCity has expanded to a new server, supporting up to 300 listeners! Starting today, we can support five times as many listeners!

And what perfect way to achieve more listeners than to announce our complete coverage of The Matrix Online's First Anniversary Event? Starting this week, and during the entire duration of the event, Radio MegaCity will be providing live, up-to-the-minute coverage of the event, including news summaries, on-location live reports, and listener call-ins. We'll have full details on how to call in on our website.

Speaking of our website, to celebrate all of our announcements, we're launching a new version of the Radio MegaCity website! We've taken suggestions from our listeners and have designed a cleaner, even more attractive homepage (forum redesign will be coming soon!). We'll have special callouts for new Podcast episodes, as well as announcement banners and other special notifications for RMC-sponsored player events.

As the Community Relations Manager for Radio MegaCity, I would like to thank everyone who has helped make RMC such a success - our listeners, our DJs, our staff, and everyone else who has contributed to our growth. Radio MegaCity continues to be one of the leading online radio stations dedicated to The Matrix Online, and we look forward to continuing to be a valuable resource for the community.

I know this has been requested by many others before, and now that I've seen the new level 50 handguns on QA, I'm jumping on the bandwagon too.

Please change the model of the new FM-1100 handguns to the Desert Eagle-style model, similar to the ones the FM-700 series handguns use. Leave the wimpy Glock-style handguns to the lesser levels. :p

Pretty please? SMILEY
Community General Discussion Happy Anniversary to all the Beta testers! Happy Anniversary to all the Beta testers! Symmetric 0 03/18/2006 04:39

Exactly one year ago today, The Matrix Online went live for those of us who had the opportunity to participate in the Beta test of MxO. Just a few days before, we had experienced what has become known as the "Eyepocalypse", arguably the best end-of-Beta event ever witnessed.

Morpheus had just been killed by the Assassin. Followers of Morpheus revolted, and as per his request, they put a strain on the system, the likes of which were only matched by the Smith virus. Facing a system failure, the Machines put all bluepills still hardwired to the system in stasis, and scheduled a purging of the Matrix.

The streets were devoid of cars and pedestrians, and all was silent throughout MegaCity. The sky turned red as first one large eye, and later on hundreds of eyes peered down upon us. Billboards throughout the city urged us to jack out immediately, lest we suffer extreme pain and consequences. The Machines sent dozens of Agents to apprehend and kill any Redpill too relunctant to comply with their demands. And, to top it all off, the Flame Virus spread throughout the city, setting Redpills on fire and causing mass chaos.

There was hope, however. Seraph and Niobe joined the resistance, and a climactic fight broke out on the roof of the Kalt Corporation in Downtown.

The eyes in the sky grew furious, and day turned to night, and night back to day in a matter of seconds. We were given one last chance to comply and jack out, but still many persisted. When the countdown ended and the time finally came, our RSIs were twisted and contorted into hideously disfigured shapes, and were purged from the Matrix.

Just a few days later, on March 18, those who experienced the Eyepocalypse awakened once again. On March 21, The Matrix Online officially launched, and one year later, after collecting Neo's RSI fragments, facing the Red-Eyed Agents and N30 AG3NTS, chasing the Assassin, defeating his 30-foot-tall Complete Corruptors, rescuing Neurophyte, fighting Enmascarado and Gemaskeerd, capturing Vashuo's killer, and helping finally bring down the Assassin, here we are today.

To everyone who experienced Beta and jacked in for the first time one year ago today, Happy Anniversary!
