  For those of us that use coder, we now have all the sim types available to us... however we are plaqued... as we cannot control what sim is created...

A solution:

Transform the Sim abilities into a true coder ability... in the same way ability coder or weapon coder works...

ZOMG?! *CENSORED*?! Does that mean?


When you load up Sim you can use your code analysis tool to create sim code up to the highest level you have loaded. So Sim 1.0 at level 4 you can only make level 4 sims... level 50 Sim 5.0 lets you make level 50 sims...

The coding window will let you pick which kind of sim you want to make, Kung Fu, Pistol, SMG, etc.

Now here's the awesome part...

You write the code for the sim, and it goes into your Inventory! Additionally you go through and you code up other sims, 10 SMG, 5 Kung Fu, 2 Pistol...  (Obviously these should stack because we have such little Inventory space).

So when you go to fight and you need a sim, just launch the sim code from your inventory, and WHAM! The exact sim you want...

Now you are asking... this would allow everyone to run around with sims, thus "Teh suxor"... Nah good friend... for the Sim code (or item) will require that level of Sim coding loaded to be used. (Just like a SMG would require level 30, and a pair of dual SMG's might require level 45).

Another issue you might be thinking of... "What if I use a sim, but want to put him away for now? Won't destroy sim trash my item?" In this scenario you are willingly disposing of your sim instead of killing it. Destroy could be changed to simply put that sim back in your inventory. However if the sim is "detonated", or killed... you lose it. This makes coders try to keep their sim alive more....

This also puts more usefulness into coder....

1. This can be extended further later to allow for more "Bad a55 sims". To make those sims red frags are needed. These sims could have higher resistances, do more damage, etc.
2. Adds more strategy to using coder, other than just send in the sim.
3. Could be tied in with the data miner tree to find "Super rare" frags to make MUCH stronger sims, bringing attention and use to both trees.

I don't know how the game is designed... but it would seem that this solution should be quick if code re-use can be done on the following:

1. Copying coding categories
2. Copying the level requirement checking of items/weapons, small changes to point to the coder abilities
3. Re-using the existing Sim spawn code and putting it into an item.
4. Re-using all the existing sim create/delete animations

Possible Annoyances for the guy stuck coding this thing... :

1. Sim destruction (adding items back into the inventory... what if it's full?)
2. Setting up the coding requirements for creating sims (Not sure if individual items all have individual codes or not)
3. Adding a "cast" time on the items.

So what do you all think... good... bad... or is Old Z off his rocker again?

  Ok, so I am going through checking the posts on DN1, and I see that I was still the last person to post in this section....

ALMOST A MONTH AGO!


In addition I also noticed... well it's bloody obvious... that almost no one uses coder...

I use it quite often along with other trees against NPCs... helps with farming...

But what motivation is there to use it in PVP?

So I figure why not make a thread... hopefully it will be positive... on changes that are needed to make coder more useful as a pvp tool.

In summary post here, what you think needs to be added/changed in coder to make you want to use it in pvp.

I might as well try it first eh?

1. Coder is largely trusting the AI of the game to fight for you (Duh sims). Sims still use pretty stupid tactics, but it has been slowly getting better. Perhaps to make up for the "stupidity" of the sim they can do a bit more damage as a player will often fight a sim for a long time.
2. No way to track your sim. Because the coder will get owned in and out of IL, he must hide and send in his sims... but where is that sim? Not to mention how easy it is for a sim to get lost.
3. The coder himself is pretty much helpless. Viral accuracy is low... melee accuracy is low... ranged accuracy is low... and I don't think thrown even exists for it. Either way you have a low probability to hit, the coder himself needs some kind of way to defend himself other than the proxy. Players are smart enough to ignore the proxy, and go for the owner. Perhaps something that only boosts defense rates on the coder, keeping him from being hit, but not giving a boost to actually hit.
4. Coder is similair to a "Necromancer" or "Summoner" in other games... most of those games let you make several cronies to follow you. Coder could make use of this to help even out the "zerg" effect against their team. Allow coders to make a group of lower level sims 5 levels lower than the coder. A group of these may consist of three, and the ability should have a long re-use timer.

  Here is something that should be fairly easy to implement, and creates a little bit of extra content for all levels of players.

New Mission Types!

Missions can be (or at least I think) copied over to other orgs and adjusted with org specific dialog.

We all have done the assassination, infiltration, rescue, etc... How about adding a couple new ones to the mix?

Now missions shouldn't all be go here, kill that, save the hostage, and so on...

How about puzzles? Sure we get them with live events, but how about some day to day puzzles?

Mish Type: Puzzle
Concept:
The puzzles obviously have to be pretty primitive to work in the mission system, so most likely it would be like come of the criticals where you need to talk to people, choose a specific npc to kill based on early chat in the mission, activate a certain computer, talk/trade something to a specific person, etc. A wrong choice kills the mission.
Length: Pretty long
XP: Should be high since the probability for failure is higher, and requires more thought.
Info: Should be low to medium

How about another eh? Everyone loves to take on massive amounts of NPC's it seems now... and missions tend to only have a few in them...

Mish Type: Party Crasher
Concept:
NPC spawns are scripted into the mission, and designed to spawn in waves. If possible either the number of NPCs or the number of waves should be balanced based on the size of the mission team.

You are instructed to break up an important meeting with org X, you show up and take out some of them, and the boss calls in backup.
Length: Short/One or two Phase
XP: Same as assassination
Info: Medium payout

Should be fairly simple to implement... not sure how long it takes to create new criticals, but I would estimate it would be about the same amount of time for these.

  I think we have seen the sims in the Live Even thread that the Unlimit has been spawning... Karate Sims, Handgun sims, and who knows the future...

So if these sims can be spawned... that would mean that they COULD be implemented...

But the trick... is actually implementing it, we would need a need coder tree right?

Follow me on this one...

There are abilities currently that give us multiple abilities when loaded...

Examples:
Ravager
Vector

They give you the buff ability and the actual viral attack.

So... in theory one could setup an ability to load up several abilities...


So take that, and apply it to coder.

IN theory we could load up Sim 5.0 and get several types of sims:

Akido Sim
Karate Sim
Kung Fu Sim
Handgun Sim
Rifleman Sim
SMG Sim

Now obviously this could be an imbalance if folks ran all of them at once. However as currently implemented a player can have only 1 sim running at a time.

You ask why not include hacker sims in that list?

Well that's the point of Nuker and Patch Daemons...

The same theory can be applied to them to give us

Ballista Sim
Howitzer Sim
Network Attacker Sim
etc, etc, etc.

This lets coders be more creative, keeps balance, and as far as I can tell should be fairly little work on the part of devs, maybe a few hours... but I don't know how their ability system actually works =p

I was reading that little event with the Unlimit that spawned...

Get this...

Karate sims?!?

We can only create these lowly Akido sims who often simply shoot their rifles... so does this mean we are getting an upgrade in the future?

Or is there a way to make Karate, or even better... Kung Fu sims spawn?

  I understand the hideout bosses should'nt respawn as fast as a normal respawn because they drop good stuff... however can we at least cut this insane 20 minute wait down?

I am not asking for much, but at least drop it to 10 minutes... right now you can only try twice an hour... three if you are lucky and he was already down there.

I think everyone agrees?

  Check this out...

I know one of the devs... most likely Rarebit... had mentioned something about a possible DMZ being made...

That's good if you don't want people to fight in an area...

But how about adding some risk?

Creating a "Please Don't Fight Here" zone or... for better wording... a "Policied" zone.

In these zones fighting is discouraged, flagging up or attacking an NPC results in "Security" coming out to break up the fight. One security guy for each "offender". The security guys would spawn with trouble makers level + 5 (Yes I know you can take a + 5 level char). Now... if any one else attacks that NPC they have security spawn on them... and if someone defeats the security guard, two more spawn and come after them.

Leaving the "Policied" zone causes the Security guy to go back to his spawn point, and disappear after saying something whitty.

Get the idea?

So... Lets put one of these "Policied" zones in a club for example. Folks go to clubs to chill, not be harassed by pvp'ing folks. (Or so I would like to think). So these trouble makers go down, talk trash and flag up... Security shows up and starts "showing them the door". The folks that want to just chill ignore the pleas for help and the "RFOL COPTSRS!?!@$@". The sucka gets served... but comes back for more... and brings his friends... process begins again, and they kill some security guys, but mre security shows up... eventually they either give up or get "owned".

Party folks get to chill.

Now here is something else...

RP folks go to the clubs, and of course start fights, part of their story... as you can guess these security guys could play into that... security breaks up the fight.

Another use:

Factions could run into these clubs, and generally cause trouble .... IE flag up, and have a general bar fight with security and anyone else.
Here I could see the need for security to stop spawning, and Agents to start showing up... obviously this kind of activity should not be seen, or tolerated by "Blue Pills".

Possibly adding these zones to other buildings like the Kalt Lobby, or other important places through out the game.

The only downside I can see to this is folks doing this to make a little zerg in the clubs, perhaps a cap would need to be coded in, and once that limit is reached the security guys turn into agents and clean house...

Allowing the choice of simply "Causing trouble".

Actually... this is a good idea...

I understand the flash system no longer works...

but how about just making an icon show up when an event is going down...

Folks can see it and go.. "Hmm something is going down, I better ask around".

The image does'nt have to do anything except be there.

Dev's can set a flag on the server and the little icon pops up.

  Just wanted to mention this here in addition to my /bug...

The lvl 30 Tengu in Yuki uses Aerial Take Down, a lvl 39 skill.

The question, is this by design, or was it simply overlooked when he got taken down a few levels after CR2.

  I don't know about everyone else... but I have found that getting a Yuki bandana is pretty much impossible from Tengu.

I must of killed the winged freak a hundred times (not exagerating) and he has still not dropped it.

I kill his friends, and I get Yuki boots about once every twenty kills or so...

Is Yuki tengu bugged? Do I have bad luck against Yuki Tengu... does Yuki Tengu horde items all day to mock the red pills that gank him?

Basically I am trying to figure out what these "Deployment Logs" contain, I figure that perhaps it is some kind of riddle or something realatively unimportant to help promote the site, which my guess is nothing more than some kind of Viral marketing scheme... But the puzzle... it ... it confounds me, and perhaps you as well?

  A few others and myself have noticed that the recursion server seems to be laggy the last couple of days.

Anyone else noticing this?

Just a few minutes ago I was at full green and half a yellow just standing around at Tabor W... moving I would get to 2 yellow.

Earlier it was 2 green standing and moving was 3 green.

Normally I just have 1 green and moving gets me 2 at times...

Here's a hint... a skill set...

No clue?

There are no spy/shadow/knifer npc's in the game... none... this makes me sad...

I suggest we add these awesome npc's with their knifing and punting... and in addition grant us the awesome power of spy sims... sims that punt and knife people...

It would make folks use detection abilities alot more, I know that.

  I better equip the fire resistance gear for this thread...

is it me or are missions, npcs, and pretty much everything else INCREDIBLY easy with ma...

I mean it's like ma = easy mode for mxo.

I farm faster with it, I kill faster with it, I use less moves to kill with it...

I can lay down 10 hacks to kill something, but load up ma, I can kill that same target in three or four moves.

I did a hard lvl 50 mission solo with hacker last night, the mission provided a decent challenge when the mass npcs showed up I had to fall back a bit so they would'nt gank me.

Then I did the same thing with ma... not even a challenge... I had no feeling of being threatened by the lvl 51's. I was taking them out in about 6 moves on average (oh noes higher lvls have higher resistance).

Now I did this without even respec'ing my char which is built to have 30 reason focus, and some extra points in vital and belief...

Now I also know that hacker is intended to be a support class, hence it should'nt be capable of soloing stuff, and should rely on the apparent tank capabilities of MA... however I am starting to wonder if alot of the hacker stuff is severly underpowered, or if MA is very overpowered...

  Can we get an improved UI for our sims please.

I have found myself doing, asking, or wanting to do the following with my sim:

What buffs are currently on my sim? Perhaps someone put buffs on it, that make no sense (combat enhancement for a nuker sim?) or just to see how much time is left before those buffs run out and I have to rebuff it...
Can I macro my sim to attack? (I want to create a macro to launch one attack and have my sim attack it as well, and /ordersimulacra seems to be bugged.)
What abilities does my sim have loaded?, seems aikido sims don't use aikido or specials most of the time
Why does my nuker sim insist on IL'ing MA's, a toggle for attempting to IL or free fire for my sim would own.

Wish I had a screenie of the current sim UI here atm, but just picture the current UI with the following buttons added...

IL/Free fire toggle button

extending the window height to have a sub pane that lists the buffs active on the sim.

A text area either above or below that describing exactly what your sim is doing, status such as "In Combat" "Attempting to find you" "Following you" "Camping", etc. This helps solve the infernal question of "Where is my sim?"

A details button, this brings up a screen kinda like our character details screen that shows the abilities loaded.

Having the sim actually display on your map so you can see where it is. This futher answers the question "Where is my sim?"

  I was wondering if this is intended functionality, bug, or other....

Load up hacker abilities... pretty much any will do it. In particular try code nuke, logic barrage, code bomb, etc. for I know it happens with them.

For your free fire style select a gun, in my case the Lancet.

Find NPC free fire shoot it with the lancet and keep the free fire going.

Now try and use your hax...

The animation will play, looks like it goes through. However it stops right at the end of the animation. No virus damage is done to the target. The gun did not shoot because you got your skill off in time, however the virus did nothing...

I have seen this happen to other folks, so I know it's not me... this used to work fine before the last one or two updates on EP.

  In case you guys get a bit bored Sunday night at 9pm EST... We will be having the third "Box Fest".

I am inviting you guys to jump on in and see how well the NPC's stand up to the hammering we will give them.

In particular, several of us thought that the box 4 was too easy the other day, and expected the same challenge from the little winged freaks as we were used to... so this will give you a chance to see how we own up on these noobs.

During a small box 4 opening today, we realized the Pandoras boxes are way too easy compared to what we were used to... so... we declared another box fest MUST be held! We want challenge, we want to fight off the zerg!

So I know several of you are going, "*CENSORED* is box fest?" well it's a simple concept...

Gather up a pandoras box 1, 2, 3 (and this time we are including 4!), or 4... bring it to Edgewater Central.

Now several other people will do this as well... we want at LEAST 10 pandoras boxes...

What will we do with these boxes? Simple... open them all... at ONCE!

That's right all of the boxes brought to the fest must be opened at the exact same time. Giving us a true zerg rush to fight off.

So when is this fest?

Sunday the 9th at 9pm EST

Where?

Edgewater Central on Recursion (and if other folks want to have them on their servers as well feel free to)

Who can attend?

Anyone! If you can get to edgewater Central, we want you there to fight off the zerg. However bring a pandoras box if you can.

We got the Whitfield Mark II but that is a lvl 45 item... we now have all these cool lvl 50 guns, shoes, shirts, etc....

How about a brand new shinny program launcher to go with it? (If there is one, I have yet to find it)

On top of that, lets make it a different style (or at least color) than the Mark II. That way people see it and go.. "Huh? I never saw that before! I want one!" (Well ok maybe not... but at least a lvl 50 launcher plz)

  I can't remember which move I used, but I was either code nuke 3 or code bomb 2 (both under the artilerist tree).

Anyway when used in IL these moves have a high tendancy to do the silver bullet animation.

You see last night I was bored and went to tabor park to chill and kill some sleepers... Well I found a bunch of people that were doing the same thing... and well I kinda invited more people to join in on the fun.

It was great... lots of sleepers to kill....

Well the sleepers never stopped spawning, and I invited more people to help fight them... and uh... well to make a long story short there were like a hundred sleepers... and they zerg very well.

As a result people lagged out, and crashed and got teleported to weird places that they rubber banded and stuff... Very nasty stuff...

However I got screen shots! HA!

  Of course data miner is not a combat skill (although I have killed several people with just it loaded...) however it seems as if it is going to be removed from the game (You can no longer browse to the data miner tree from spy, however you can manually load it up.)

So is data miner sticking around? or is it going the way of the dinosaurs?

Personally I would like to see it stick around and get revised at some point to be more worth a **bleep**.

  While running the creston hideout today I encountered an interesting problem.

Finding npc's in evade mode is nothing new, and as we know the evade npcs will sometimes shoot at us, but we can do nothing back as they are still in evade mode.

The problem is the evading npc would IL me, I would press the attack, however each hit I was presented with "evade". The npc was still in evade mode even though he IL'd me.

Continued attacks result in a constant evade message coming off the npc.

So I rolled out of IL, and attempted to attack the npc... success! The npc was no longer in evade mode.

  The UI as is works in CR2...

once you learn it. I am sure a tutorial would fix that... however people never pay attention in them anyway.

it can be even more fool proof...

When a skill fails it does the red flash thing... first time I saw this I thought that ment my skill went through... now I know that it means failure...

Why not have the red flash turn into the word "Fail" or "Miss" on the hotbar item?

Basically this is a call for all Recursion folks who can get a pandoras box 1, 2, or 3 to work together.

What I want is for you all to get a box 1, 2, or 3 and meet us at Edgewater C on the Recursion server at 9PM EST on 02/12/2006.

The purpose?

To open all of our boxes at the SAME TIME. Why? Because we want to kill mass numbers, that's it, no rhyme or reason to it.

I expect us to have no less than 10 boxes.

DJ Z here reporting in of the awesome work you all did tonight.

While doing some pandoras boxes tonight we all got the bright idea to gather as many low lvl boxes we could in 15 minutes, and open them all at once... well we gathered them, and even with some technicall difficulties we managed to do it.

Together we acquired 5 pandoras boxes, a box 1 a couple box 2's, and a couple box 3's.

Not bad.

All of these boxes were opened at once and the result... oh the result was the best thing I have seen in ages...

Almost all player reactions where along the lines of "HOLY @$*@!" or "OMG" to "HELP!" and "Rez plz!".

Quite the sight to behold...

Seeing how well this worked on such short notice, I figure we will make this a regular event, or at least schedule it again... look in the player events section on Data node one for "Box Fest" topics. These will announce the next dates and other information on each of these events.

  This has probably been asked a hundred times already, but I wanted to propose something as well...

In what ways can we help you devs out with new game content?

I know we can test out CR2 and other stuff on the test server, we can send you /bug's for problems we find, make some recommendations here, and respond to posts and questions you guys ask.

I doubt you would do this... but I was wondering if there is a way we can help create physical content for the game. Looking through the threads it seems to be folks want alot of really simple stuff, but if you spent the time doing it, you would'nt be able to give us the good stuff (CR2, advanced features, etc.).

My idea is that perhaps a special team of players could be setup to work with the devs for creating content such as new clothes, weapons, emotes, graphics, etc.

I of course don't know how your tools work, and I know you could never give us access to actually make changes to the code etc. But if your item, and emote tools allow for you to export a single item (The mesh, skins, and stats) this team of "Dev Players" (For lack of a better term) could be given these tools and allowed to create the new items, etc.

When the item is finished we can send you a file that contains the mesh, skins, etc. and you can use the tool on your end to import them.

Now the trick here (and what I think is the most likely killing factor for you guys, politics, etc.) would be to have it so only these "Dev Players" can submit new items, instead of everyone and their mother. Doing this would prevent it from being spamed with Neo coats that have +10231 DR. Members of our community who have shown over and over that they are serious about helping improve the game can be approved to be in this group.

Now the awesome part about this, is lets say I am browsing this forum, and see a post about how someone wants jacket X in the game to also have a brown version. I could open up the tool, and see that indeed jacket X does not have a brown version. So I export the mesh, textures, etc. Edit the texture as needed, and send the new item your way. Tomorrow you come in to work and review the new player items that were sent in, and can approve them as appropriate.

Of course there is a downside to this, lets say I see that there are no vests in the game as outerware, so being the helpful pest that I am, I make 50 different vests with different colors, stats, styles, etc. I then submit these to you. You come in tomorrow morning to a "HOLY @#@#!" by your co-workers who just found the barage of new items I left for them to bring in.

The work arounds for this problem is to either spend X amount of time reviewing player items each day, limit the team members to submitting one item per day, or to review X number of player items each day

You can think of it a bit as an open source project, that is'nt so... open.

So what do the Dev's and everyone else think about this?

Before I start, you need some background information...

For those of you who don't know who Chuck Norris is... let me give you some background here... Chuck Norris is the most awesome martial arts master you will ever know. Known for his devistating round house kick, Chuck Norris has landed roles as Walker texas ranger, and in several HIGH profile movies... Proving his awesomeness in the field of Martial arts

Now he comes to the matrix... however the matrix has been unable to contain the power of his /roundhouse. Everytime he encounters an evil doer he delivers a /roundhouse as they so properly deserve, causing instant death. To quote Mr. Norris... "One round house, that's it, your out". The /roundhouse is so powerful it rips through the code of the matrix, causing what us Data miners know as "Data nodes" to appear.  To quote Chuck again "Every data node you see represents one round house".

Obviously our data mining jobs are owed to Mr. Norris. Upon speaking to him I discovered some youths from a local karate dojo stole his gi... Mr. Norris seemed saddened by this... He explained that he was disiplining the children for their disrespectful ways in the dojo, when after he was done he found it missing... I searched for the gi and found one sitting outside a dojo in international. Inspecting the name tag, I found the name "Chuck" written in black marker... I immediately sent it to Mr. Norris.

He was very greatful to have his gi back, as a show of my appreciation of his /roundhouse I asked for permission to data mine in a gi similair to his. Mr. Norris seemed very pleased with this.

"I look forward to seeing more people data mine in a gi. That, at least shows they have some gratitude for the roundhouse that opens up the holes in which they extract their precious code."

Hence I have made it my duty to request here, that my fellow data miners, out of respect of Mr. Norris and his round house... to mine in a gi from this point on.

For those of you wishing to show the most respect, like I... Mr. Norris wears a "Red/White Traditional Gi".
