Sati was sent into exile because she didn't have a purpose.  There was no Program that replaced her because there was nothing to replace.

Sati didn't have a purpose... but now after seeing that weather patterns can be manipulated by her and the comments by Gray, it seems that the Machines deem that she does now have a purpose and that the Oracle has the ability to guide and watch over her.

She didn't have a purpose when created because she wasn't created by the machines.  Rama Kandra and his wife created her, and then feared that the machines would find out about her and take her away from them (putting her to use...giving her a purpose).  That's why they were going to the trainman to try to get her moved out of the Matrix so she couldn't be taken away.

Hmm.... Wonder why the inventory list only shows weapons in those screenshots?  Was it possible to filter it similiar to how you can do this in the marketplace and coding screens?  I like the generic names too...you can tell they're all just basic placeholders.

Also, the fact that it's a scrolling list is interesting as well (as opposed to "slots" that you drop items into).  Almost leads me to believe that there was potentially no limit to the amount of items?  Just scroll down the list?

Also, I think I can remember during beta when they moved the "You've entered Mara" type messages up to the middle of the screen (they looked like the system broadcast messages), and then eventually modified them to look like the current Matrixy code message we get now telling you that you entered a new district.

Lol...I kinda miss that old interface with the icons coming down, and then crashing together with the roll numbers showing.

You know what else would be slick...if this game was dual-screen aware, and you could have your game view on the left side, and then your combat, inventory, marketplace, chat, compass, buddy list, etc..etc..etc on the other screen sorta like a side-dashboard.

There's too many characters and storylines right now.  I know they'll all converge at some point, but what makes this somewhat annoying is that there'll be some episodes where we don't see the continuation of a few character's storylines.  Elle, Parkman, Nathan...what the heck, we get into some juicy story content with these characters and then they just don't appear in the latest episode.  There's only so much they can fit into 40 minutes (total time without commercials), and I just think they're trying to fit too much.
The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Is Flash memory soon to be a thing of the past? Re:Is Flash memory soon to be a thing of the past? Paige6 0 10/31/2007 19:26
The real beauty of this is in our portable devices that currently use hard drive technology, which still has the potential to fail due to massive shock or gforces on the device.  So all these iPods, PmP's, microdrives, hard-drive based video camers, and yes....even laptops will have no need for a drive with moving parts anymore.  Way less power consumption, way less potential for mechanical failure, way faster due to no need for a drive head to "seek" to the data, and way less cost.

I'm all for this technology!  This will seriously launch our portable devices (not just thumb drives) far ahead.  But don't count out traditional flash memory yet.  16GB USB flash drives are already out.  No doubt they're going to double, and then double again (quadruple) very soon.  You'll probably be able to get 64GB flash memory devices in no time.

I love it when I see a lot of "censored" like that, I try to fill in the blanks with the words I think go there, but usually the word doesn't fit, maybe I pick far worse words to put in the "censored"'s place than what was intended to be there, but nonetheless it's fun.  Similar to MxO, even though we can't have everything in the game that we'd really like to have, or at one time did have but don't anymore....it's still a spectacular game with cool graphics, animations, gameplay, and a sweet story.  And whatever most of us don't get out of the game, sometimes its fun to just fill in the blanks with our own gameplay, RP, events, or whatever.
Feedback Forums Ability Feedback What happened to the Org Abilities? Re:What happened to the Org Abilities? Paige6 0 10/26/2007 20:18

Hmm..that would've been interesting, but quite difficult to implement.  I was just tossing this around in my head and that'd be interesting if the abilities played off the different org's identities...like Machines ultimately want control, hence abilities geared towards crowd control, buffing, debuffing.  Merovingians look for more power, hence abilities to do damage, and Zion just wants to protect its city, hence abilities that are stronger in defense/avoidance.

Sounds like your school is blocking the TCP ports you need to get access to the game.  Really isn't an easy way to get around it.  I suppose if you were really tricky, you could setup a SSH server at home with TCP port redirection, and then when you're at school, setup PUTTY so that you can SSH into your home PC, and then basically redirect the TCP ports for MxO through that tunnel.  Effect is you'd create your own little private VPN using SSH...and you could tunnel any traffic you wanted through to your home network and back out to the Internet.

Only catch to that is that your school has to allow Port 22 out (well, I guess you can get around that too by setting up SSH on a non-standard TCP Port).

Ok, enough geeky tech speak.

At first I thought this would be a bad idea.  But after reading some of the posts....you know what everyone?  We NEED to do this.  I've only recently begun to poke around a little bit on the "Station" forums, and there's NO MxO presence over there at all!

We need to break out of our little MxO area of the Station forums, and spill over into the main Station forum more often.  We've posted a LOT in our own forums about how we feel about this game, but who's it going to?  Other players of MxO, mods of MxO, Devs of MxO, QA of MxO.  So no one outside of our game is seeing our concerns.  heck, judging by the ridiculous Podcast I wasted so many hours listening to...I don't think anyone outside even knows MxO exists!

I'd say Rare's essentially working on the animations, and acting as an animator would.  Keyframing is part of animation.  Deciding at what points the computer is going to do something different, and then letting it interpolate the between points...keyframing...is part of what an animator does.  He's just keyframing bullettime, rather than the actual movements of the models.  I'd say he can put that on his resume now.

If those screenies show the names applied to each of the moves or scenarios of each move...that's gotta be a pain to work with.  They're all just 2-letter names.  With 5000-ish possible move combinations how the heck can you find what you're looking for if everything is just 2-letter identifiers.

heh...Nicks gone wild.

Community Residual Self-Image Effects Study Re:Effects Study Paige6 0 10/18/2007 08:49
First, I will say those are fantastic images.  I do love how they come out when you put things together.
I'm assuming you're using Poser7...which to be honest once you get into the software and know how to use it, putting together a decent looking model is easier than it looks.  What makes these images cool is the post-editing done to add in some of the matrixy elements, like the backgound and the reflection on the glasses.

Now if you're doing this raw in Maya/3dStudioMax, maybe with a little help from Z-Brush, and hand-painting all of the textures in Photoshop for everything (pores, lips, eyes, etc) that's hardcore.

Abilities and Disciplines Loading Construct - Coder Discussion Attributes for A Proxy coder Re:Attributes for A Proxy coder Paige6 0 10/17/2007 10:20
See I took a different route though.  I wanted to go down both sides of the proxy tree, and also have the potential to go hybrid with other sections of hacker/operative down the road.  Dumping attribute points at one specific area to only benefit something like hacker attacks didn't seem beneficial to me for what I wanted to do.  I'd be strong in one area, and weak on another when I switched trees.

There were two ways to go about this (balancing things out), I figured I could either just distribute points evenly across all attributes that provide a benefit towards whatever type of proxy coder I was going to be.  OR, just throw everything at Vitality, which benefits all classes.  I went the vitality route for now because I notice that I spend a lot of IS buffing and creating my proxies, and also helping them in battle.  And sometimes I take quite a beating so the extra health regen stuff helps a lot.

There's of course always the option to just kick off a RSI stat hack, and change everything, but this isn't something I want to do on a regular basis.
