I have the same problem...

Screenshot problems?  Eh...I wish.

I cant even get MxO to install on Vista.

If I use the Launcher and do a full system check it tells me that "Only one instance of the game can be running"...

If I use the Launcher normally, I can put in my username and password and then it just freezes while trying to authenticate.

I have tried the typical things of running under adminstrator and turning off my UAC.

I have also opened up all the ports recommended and given the launcher full access through my firewall.

Anyone help with this?

Will the dev team ever take personal storylines from players (other than LESIG) and incorporate them into the main storyline or at least to where the player's storyline is viewed as canon by main characters (the devs that are playing them)?  I know this has happened in the past, on a faction level.  A machine critical mission mentions my old faction, Archimedes Lever, for an example of what Im talking about here....anyway something like that will ever be done on a personal level?

It's less likely...in fact pretty unlikely, because something like that we need to own--intellectual property rights, I mean. Faction and player names we already own, since those are registered through our system, but player stories I don't think we do, and there'd probably be some legalese in making that happen that I don't really care to get involved in, not to mention potential conflicts with the main storyline. Anything you manage to work in to say a Live Event with a story character is free game, but that's about as far as we'd go, I think.

Hmmm...yeah, that makes sense.  Still...seems that maybe if you guys (Devs) ran into a personal storyline that you found interesting or thought dovetailed well and wanted to use it.  Maybe, the author could sign a waiver to have their story become MxO "canon".....therefore, allowing SOE to have access to dovetail and make some interesting things happen.

I think this idea might help revitalize MxO from a RP perspective and make players feel more involved...*shrugs* I know I would jack in more if this happened and I know alot of players were unhappy, as early as the first few months after release, when we realized that we wouldnt be able to "influence" the storyline in MxO (initially, we were told by Monolith that this was possible thru the Live Event Team).  This idea, I think, would be a happy medium, since I know you guys (Devs) dont have the resources to do it properly....but this seems fairly easy (to just have a person sign a waiver, like LESIG).

Oh, and thanks to Gami for reposting my question at that "critical" time. SMILEY

Against my better judgment I will respond to this...so if you wrote this to flamebait me, I guess you win.

Anyway, I dont think I got my initial interpretation of So3's plan wrong....I read his post and he is basically calling for the massive disruption of all parties and DJ events.  I fail to see where you get something different out of his original post....

It is for this reason friends that I declare an intefada against these so called parties. It is your duty as a loyal matrixonian to destroy these people and those who lead them to these so called parties through any means necessary. There will be martyrs, of course, but it is far better to go out a legend than to whimper away as our server is slowly taken over by these DANCE FASCISTS.

Some ways you can help:
-We must first lobby our CSRs to recognize the spam for these "radio" "stations" as just that...spam to be as bannable as if Blizzard came to Mara Central and starting spamming all of us to join World of Warcraft. It is imperative that we first silence this threat so that it is not allowed to spread.
-Next we must start to bomb these parties with pvp of the most annoying kind. Area of effect heals buffs and hacks, Loud gun battles, and lots (and lots and lots) of unwitty banter about how "l33t" we are and Chuck Norris, these people seem to view him as the anti-christ we should use these silly superstition to our advantage.
-Finally,and most importantly, verbal mockery to shame them out of their loafing ways.

Seriously??....you can tell me that you interpret this as not being against the DJs and only against Hardline spam?   Wow....interesting.

That is why my initial response read the way it did...it was a direct reply to his original post, I guess I should have quoted him. *shrugs*

I think it is you that is not understanding exactly what this thread is about, which I dont understand because you dont have to read between the lines....So3 has laid it plainly out what he intends to do...and frankly, Im looking forward to it. SMILEY

Character Handle: Anubias
Real Name (optional):  Anubias Lightner
Age (optional): 30
Level: 50

Organization:  Zion
Faction:  Omega Syndicate
Ship:  HvCFT Delphi

hangouts:  Tabor West....and various other "secret" spots.

Brief Bio (optional):

Anubias was born on June 3, 1976. Nothing is known of his parents, except they named him and left him on the doorstep of the Mara Congregational Church. He was found by Sister Margaret there and taken to a nearby orphanage where he was spent the first nine years of his life. Not much is known of Anubias's life during these early years except from his teachers who reported Anubias as having a "high intelligence" and certain "psychic powers", namely telekinesis and telepathy. It was these "psychic powers" which brought the Oracle to the orphanage to adopt Anubias.

Upon adoption, Anubias stayed under the supervision of the Oracle for the next few years. There are even fewer reports during this time. All that is known is from a few neighbors of the Oracle who reported,"He is one of her kids". Anubias also met his best friend when in the Oracle's custody, Tyndall. Though Tyndall was a couple of years his junior, the two children displayed an immediate bond. Anubias stayed with the Oracle until he was extracted from the Matrix at age 12, the same day Tyndall was removed. This was 11 years before Neo was freed by Morpheus.

Upon removal from the Matrix, Anubias lived with a black-op corpsman named Hollis and his wife in Zion. Anubias spent the next few years in Zion mainly studying at the Temple where he took interest in religion and philosophy. It is reported Anubias was admired by his peers and was often able to diffuse arguements that are common among pre-teens. The priests of the Temple were very impressed with Anubias and have stated that Anubias was able to "talk like an adult about very complex ideas". During this time, there was also sightings of Anubias talking with Morpheus about philosophy and other things that interested them both. Tyndall was said to be a frequent visitor to the Hollis household, especially when Hollis had returned from missions in the Matrix. Tyndall and Anubias liked hearing about his adventures inside the Matrix.

When Anubias was 17, Hollis was killed in the Matrix and this affected Anubias greatly. Councilor Hamann took a interest in Anubias during this hard time in his life and became Anubias's surrogate father. Some speculate that Hamann was "grooming" Anubias to become a future Council member because of his quick wit and level head. Anubias had little interest in this though and joined the Zion Military when he became of age to follow in Hollis's footsteps.

Anubias's military file is "Top Secret" by orders of the Council and no more information can be attained at this time. What is known is that Anubias is now 30 years old and is Captain of the Hovercraft Delphi, and eventually became Commander of Archimedes Lever (as Commander Cascade had to step down) and currently returning from Zion after several months of "down time" following Morpheus's death. He currently resides as Captain of HvCFT Delphi of the Omega Syndicate.

Hmm, yes, sounds like fun. The only thing that's missing is how I find this person to awaken my character in the first place. But I think this could be quite flexible, considering I don't have a character in mind at the moment. What I mean is that I want to try acting out a bluepill first before the awakening. The other issue is the training constructs, which I believe we will have to go through to create a character. I don't want to do things out of sync, but it would be nice to still go through this training.. any thoughts?

Another question: is it really possible for someone to use a quote from e.g. Morpheus from a matrix film? The chance of that character actually having found out that Morpheus had said that is quite slim, I'd think.

1st Issue:  Im sure you will find a RPer interested in awakening you, as you roam around as a bluepill....no worries there.

2nd Issue:  Can help you there...I have never really thought about the training constructs before and they arent implemented ingame.  The closest thing I think you will find are the White Hallways...but you will need an experienced player to get you into one.  I think training simulation would do very well there.

Morpheus issue:  I have been asked this before in another one of my threads and to be honest I cant remember how I responded...so I will come up with a new one and hope they match up *chuckles*

I think some of the more famous things Morpheus said, such as quoting some of his inspirational messages to his fellow operatives in all three of the films, would not be that "far-reaching" of a concept for players to use.  Leader's inspirational words usually travels within the given community...look how much we use famous quotes in our varying cultures.  For example, something from the Temple Speech or Cave Speech would be very easy to use since he was addressing all of Zion...some of the more private messages that he said to Neo privately would be just the opposite...such as, "The pleasure is still mine"...the last thing he said to Neo.

So you really have to look at how a certain quote was used in the movies and decide whether or not it would have been spread or whispered about in Zion or whether it probably didnt go past the ears that heard them.  If you have any specific quotes you want my feedback on, feel free to ask.

Last thing, I read what you said in my biography thread (whether or not Zion knew of Merv before the 2nd movie) and all I can tell you is that you need to wait and see...I did think about this when creating this storyline and I think you will see in future "chapters" I covered my bases.  My storyline is still a work in progress as far as transferring it to the forums...but the story is already developed fully elsewhere.  I think if you read the whole story and not just these first few segments, you probably would have never asked me that question...Hehehe.

Ah, here's one that really caught my attention once. Using the name floating above one's head or right clicking for details to find that person handle/bluepill name. Should we ignore that and act all ignorant until the person introduces themselves, or find an RP way to explain our knowledgable ways? I tried doing a thing where "My Operator dug up the info on you" deal, and that kinda worked, but I just wanted an opinion from someone else.

I mainly try to stick to ignorance of the person's identity until we are properly introduced.  Sometimes people skip this part of RP and somehow mysteriously know your name, when this happens I will usually just introduce myself to the person to get over that hurdle quickly and move on.  I have also used the "operator" trick that you mentioned above and I think it is a feasible option...your operator knows alot and I dont think its a stretch at all considering how much help Morpheus and Trinity got from Link and Tank in the movies.  Operators can find out alot of things for you or explain things that are going on in the Matrix that your RSI cant necessarily "see".

I think this is something worth discussing. When rping I usually go with exactly what you said above. I think that the operator trick can be useful at times, but instead of operator I tend to use "records". I haven't used it in a while so I can't exactly remember, but my main character that I rp with (Dissever) is Zion, so I try to stick with what Zion intel would have on this character. I think things like "our records show that your hovercraft disappeared from active duty some time ago.." would be appropriate for an EPN character, that kind of thing.
Also, each RSI would have a signature in the code, and an operator should be able to match it to a list of known RSIs, if they don't already recognise it. This definitely should be restricted to organisation, unless your character is on a hovercraft that happened to switch from one org to another, and hence has access to at least a partial database of the old org... erm, that gets complicated!

Anyway, my question is this:
I want to create a new character by rping through the whole search and awakening thing with a redpill player (so I can actually say "[name] found me and showed me reality", and many other possible benefits). I don't have a character in mind yet, but what would be the best way to go about this?

Good input on the first topic!

As far as your question goes, if you are on the Syntax server I can help you with this situation.  I and a few others have already RPed this scenerio and its a fun way for a "new" player to dive into the game immediately, from an RP standpoint.

First, you need to find one that will awaken you...hehe...I know that is obvious.  But, you might want to pick someone who's hovercraft you will eventually join...that could open up your storyline more in the future.  Of course, that is optional and really up to you.

How I have done this scene in the past, I will meet with the bluepill and talk with him for a while...eventually leading to taking a little red pill.  Once this is done I invite the character into my mission team and run a recruitment mission with him...this usually leads to a computer or an Extraction Point (this makes it very easy to become immersed in the storyline).  Sidenote:  For a more dangerous recruitment...try doing this in International...then you really get the feel for having to avoid Agents while you are being extracted.  This is optional as well, depending how realistic you want it to be or how you want your storyline to develop.

Once at the Extraction Point (the end of the mission, without fulfilling the last objective) you can RP the character being jacked out for the first time and "picking them up" in the Real World....in my experience its best to stop RPing when this is done, which makes sense because of the recovery time the character needs to go through from being "introduced" to the Real World.  Make sure when you finish the RP to leave yourself in the Loading Area for the next time you jack in...this will help you get back into your character's mindset and basically continues your story from where you left off......The rest is up to you from that point.

I hope that helps! *smiles*
