Community General Discussion Headjack damaged, away from the matrix for a while :( Headjack damaged, away from the matrix for a while :( Zimb 0 02/18/2006 09:57
  ## INCOMING TRANSMISSION ##
FROM: ZIMBIA
PUBLIC ACCESS=ON
##

On a mission my headjack got a bit damaged, as i unexpectedly woke up from the connection to the matrix, and jumped up from the chair. I can tell you, it hurt. Fortunately the damage is not as big as Tyndalls, but i won't be able to jack in for a while, as my headjack is repaired. I don't know how long it takes, but i've heard it's gonna be a longer time.

The hope is not lost.

## END ##

So what i'm saying is, i'm cancelling my account. The game is quite boring for me atm, but i'll be back after CU2.0 and other updates. I won't be uninstalling.

Until then, cya.
Development Discussion Development Roundtable Outfit inventory tweak Outfit inventory tweak Zimb 0 01/04/2006 04:02
This is a easy-to-implement way to fast change your clothing without macros:

The idea is to stack the clothes in one "outfit stack" or whatever you
like to call it. So you have, for example, a hat. When you drag other
clothing items onto the hat, a coat for example, they would both stack
in one inventory slot. Then you can drag your shoes, glasses, shirts
and gloves and pants onto the outfit stack. Only one of each clothing
item (one pair of shoes, one hat, one coat and so on) can be in one
stack. Duoble-click the stack like you would equip a normal clothing
article, and the whole clothing set would be eqipped, and the old one
would stack in your inventory. Right-click an outfit stack, and there
would be an option to view all stacked items, and to unstack all items.
Placing an outfit stack in the hotbar and clicking on it would of
course also equip the stack.

What do you think?

Development Discussion Development Roundtable BIG projects for the devs to consider BIG projects for the devs to consider Zimb 0 12/26/2005 03:45
All these require, i think, a new system for each of them. But it's worth it. They are in no order of neededness or goodness.

1. Character body customization

I've already made a topic about a possible way to do this, here

2. New mission system

Team vs team, crew vs crew, player vs other player, more interaction, the works. Rarebit, i know you want this :smileywink:

3. New item system (add buffs, change colour, silence weapons, etc.
This is really why i made this topic, so it's gonna be a longer read :smileytongue:)

We all know (we who have read the ask the devs thread), that with
the current system, making custom buffs and changing colours, a very
very very very large database is needed, for every possible combination
of buffs and colours for one item. So, the new system would be like
this:

Of every item there would be made a colourless, buffless template, one
for each gender, and to it you could add buffs, make it into a new
colour, add a silencer for weapons, what ever you want. Every item
would be deleted, and replaced with a template, except those in peoples
inventories, which would still be in circulation, but would follow the
rules of templates. Decompiling such an item would extract the buffs,
which would, in extracted form, be Buff Fragments. The colour of the
item would be seen in extracted form as a Dye Fragment, or Colour
Fragment. The decompiled item would of course also give codebits.

When you make a new item, let's say a new shirt, you would first select
the shirt template. Then there would be a button with the caption
"Buffs". Click it, and a new window would appear, the buff panel, there
would be a checkbox and a slider (for the power of the buff) for every
buff fragment you have. Now, when increasing the power of the buff,
every 5 steps would require a new buff fragment of the same buff. The
max power depends on the buff. When going over 10, every 3 steps would
require a new buff fragment of the same buff.

There would also be a "colour" button. This would simply bring up a
colour chart of all the available item colours in-game. Changing the
colour would require ONE dye fragment, they don't have versions for
every colour. The more buffs, the higher level is the item, and,
following the rules of cause and effect, the more difficult it would be
to code the item.

Now, the item would only exist in the client, as the server database
only has one template of each item. When an item is made, it would be
uploaded to the PIDB, Player Items DataBase. This database would, of
course, grow very big. But when a item loses it's stability, or when
it's recycled or sold to a vendor, the item would be deleted from the
PIDB. The stuff that would be uploaded to the PIDB would be in simple
text form, telling the sever which template it's made of and which
colour it is. No need to upload the buffs. Now when the player enters
the matrix, the other players clients would see the player, download
it's clothes parameters from the PIDB, and see the player like he/she
is. As every clothing file would only be like

Template=Arasiki driving gloves

Colour=black

the file would be very small, and cause no lag whatsoever. The client
that downloaded this info would show the Arasiki driving gloves
template, coloured black, on the screen. When fighting the player, the
buffs calculations would be client-side.

I want my loot!

Using this system, there would be no ready loots for the player.
There doesn't need to be. When opening a drawer, for example, the
client would fast as ligthning randomly throw together an item, taking
only one command from the server into consideration; Buffs, Yes or no. Of course, using this system, all loot would be different from players in a team, depending on who's the looter is.

So, these customly made clothes would be decompilable just like normal clothes, and tradeable just like normal clothes.

Devs would also all the time make new templates :smileytongue:

Getting buff and dye fragments

They would come from loot, old clothes that weren't deleted, and
new clothes that were customly coded and decompiled. Also, a number of
vendors would be selling them.

Please? As a christmas present =)

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Gender-specific items Gender-specific items Zimb 0 12/24/2005 01:36
This small issue has been bugging me for some time. How hard would it
be to implement items that are usable for both sexes? For example,
program launchers, they are exactly the same, but there's versions for
both sexes.  Or plain male T-shirts could also be a intersex item.
Or the party hats. The list goes on.

Now the second point. How hard would it be to make drops detect gender?
Many RPG's can make drops for the gender of the person that loots it.
Why not MxO?

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Idea about more advanced character customization Idea about more advanced character customization Zimb 0 12/24/2005 01:26
In the ask the devs-thread, Rarebit answered a question about charatcer
customization. The answer was that it would be very difficult to
implement this without lag, as the server needs to send all kinds of
information to all the clients that view the character. So, my
suggestion is this:

When changing something other than clothes, it would be done from the
loading area. And when the change is made, let's say a new hairstyle,
the client makes an image of the new RSI. When you then jack into the
matrix again, this image is sent to the server, which then sends it out
to the other clients viewing the RSI in the world.

Example: You make a new wallpaper in photoshop. It has many layers,
matrix code, many cut-out RSI's, blur on some places, grids, matrix
text and so on. You save the file as a .psd file (or .pspimage in paint
shop pro). Now the file is very large. So let's make the file into an
RSI. It's sent to the server, and then from there out to the other
clients. Now you change soemthing in the .psd file. You add some more
code. Now the RSI data that is sent out to the server is chnaged, and
the server looks for the new part in the database, and compiles the
RSI, and sends it out ot the other clients. But, now you save your
wallpaper as a .jpg file. All layers, everything, is compressed into
one one image, and a quite small filesize.

This is what would happen when you change the hairstyle on your RSI.
The image would update. Now, as far as i understood, the server has
every clothing piece stored, and just dresses the RSI, and sends it out
to the other clients. The complication was that when modifying bodies,
all kinds of body parts would have to be stored on the server. But with
this idea, nothing like this needs to be stored in the server, except
clothes, that would work like it does now, the RSI body comes fro the
client. And when changing from the loading area, the client has even
more time to make the image and upload it to the server.

Hopefully you understood the messy text! Merry christmas :smileytongue:

This is a little fanfic that i'll continue now and then, coming up with stuff as i write.

---------

Chapter 1: Intro

Craig Johnsson is an extremely good computer coder, he can write
anything from HTML to C++, he's a real wizard. He has his own software
company, Codeforge, a small but respected company. He has 10 people
working for him, all very good at computers, handpicked by himself,
especially his cute secretary, a woman that almost always wears a red
dress. Codeforge has released just a few programs, but all of them
masterpieces. For example, the very powerful server OS Codefence, used
in most servers. It's good because it's so flexible and secure, so you
could do anything from hosting websites to hosting MMO's on it. Not
many regular people know about it though, but it's highly respected in
computer circles.

Mr. Johnsson was just eating his sandwich, and his computer
beeped ominuosly. He turned around, and saw that the screen had turned
black. Then, as he got up from his seat, purple asian letters began
appearing on the left side, moving slowly to the right side. Their
speed increased eventually, and soon they began dropping down from the
top of the screen towards the bottom. Then he saw something in the
code. Then it was gone. He tried to look behind the code, and then he
saw it again.

Community General Discussion Player-made organisations Player-made organisations Zimb 0 12/16/2005 07:55
This idea began forming in my head when i was walking the dog.

Basically the idea is to let players do their own orgs. Not so easily
as making a faction, and you must meet certain requirements:

- Min lvl 45

- Min rep for the parent org: 100 or more

- Must be faction leader

- Must have an another factionleader on the project [optional, only needed for revolution]

- May not have any bans or "SOE criminal records"

You would be forming the organisation from a parent org, which is
either one of the existing orgs (Zion, Machine or Merv, and possibly
Cypherite, if it get's into the game). You could either do a
revolution, which is done by contacting an another factionleader, and
forming the org from an Org UI element (together with the other
factionleader). Then you would send a mail to the head of your former
org (ie an announcement of a new org to the devs), and then your org
would be created by revolution.

Or, you could agree with your head of the org to make a new org, and be
allied with your former org. To this, you would not need an another
crewcaptain. "Agreeing with the head of the org" is sending an email to
a LET member (or someone else incharge of this if it get's done) and
get permission to make the new org.

When your new org is made, you can recruit factions and crews by
recruiting the crewcaptain. The ranks in the org would be like, in the
first rank, there can be only persons, not factions/crews, and in the
other ranks there can be any. The persons in Rank 1 all share the same
power over the organisation. There would also be a Mission controller
rank, where all mission controllers are, and they have the power to
create missions. How, read further.

A central part of an org is missions. The mission controllers give out
missions by the email function. The operative contacts an online
mission controller by the mission panel, as usually. Then the mission
controller get's an email in his/her inbox, and scripts the misison.
More about mission scripting below. So, the operative get's his/her
mission, and completes it, get's rep the normal way, and xp the normal
way, and as much info as the mission controller decides when scripting
the mission.

How to script:

The MC (Mission controller) writes the mission code in the reply. It would look something like this:

Phase1

Coords=1 1 -200 RCL[coords to the first mission phase here, it must be
a building, RCL means Richland, every district has it's own code]

NOE[number of enemies]=3

FinalPhase=False

Phase2

Coords=1 1 -100 RCL[same as in phase 1, only now the coords to the second phase]

NOE=5

Bosses[3^]=1

FinalPhase=False

Phase3

Coords=1 1 -1 RCL[same as in phase 1, only now the coords to the third phase]

NOE=4

Bosses[3^]=2

FinalPhase=True

AddInfo

XP=3phase [can be a custom amount, and can be automatic. When writing a
phase-value, the system gives the maount of xp that a player would get
for his/her level for a 3 phase mission]

Info=3phase [same as above]

MissionName=Green code of eternity [simply the name of the mission, can be anything]

Private=No [Yes: Only the player the mission is for can enter, No: Anyone from the org can enter]

So that's what the mission code could look like.
Very easy to learn. Everything else, the floor of the missionspace, the
drops, the bosses names, would be randomly choosen by the system, to
avoid exploiting.

Well, there's much more to it, but it's already a long read, so i'll stop now.

Community General Discussion IDEA: Organisation differences IDEA: Organisation differences Zimb 0 12/15/2005 11:59
So this is either a very good or very bad idea, you be the judge.

The idea is, that the orgs should have more differences than different
goals in the storyline. So, give them different bonuses and downsides.

For example, i find it very stupid that agents chase machine redpills
when they do misisons, and stay a little longer in the mission area, or
when they go to a restricted area. So here's my ideas of org up and
downsides:

ZION

Zion is kinda the average org, so there's not so many original bonuses for them. But some are taken from the other orgs.

Good: Big XP from access nodes (as they can hack them).

Bad: Can get chased by Agents, and areas are restricted.

MACHINE

Good: Agents don't chase, areas not restricted.

Bad: Unable to hack nodes, agents will chase like hell for some time if you change org.

MERV

Good: Respect from gangs (they don't attack if not provoked), can hack nodes and can get XP.

Bad: Quite frequently chased by Agents, restricted areas.

This might unbalance the game, but i've tried to come up with equally
good upsides, and equally bad downsides. This is what makes most sense
judging from the Matrix storyline, and that's why i suggested it.

Feel free to contribute with ur own up and downsides :smileyhappy:

No, i'm not sick or insane, but i've seen yellow rings appearing near
the streetlight in mara c, and they make a clicking noise when they
appear. It's very rytmical, they appear on the exact same spot, there's
only 2 of them, one near the streetlight and the other a few meters
away. The clicking and the intensity of thier yellow colour fade
eventually, and then there's a pause, and then they begin again, as

Community General Discussion IDEA: Bluepill Evaluation Mode IDEA: Bluepill Evaluation Mode Zimb 0 11/30/2005 13:04
So this is for new players wanting to evaluate the game before starting the subscription.

When a new player have installed the game, at the login
screen, there would be a button, that would activate the Bluepill
Evaluation Mode. Then, the game would patch, and you get to choose
servers. Now the game would log you in with a randomly generated
bluepill. You would not be able to use any abilities, you would only be
able to jump a basic jump, you would not be able to use Hardlines and
your movements would be limited to Richland. You could not be PvP
flagged or otherwise attacked. You could use the chat to ask other
players for advice, and to introduce you to the game (The bluepill
becomes aware of the matrix).

Now you would have a 30min timer, and when the times up,
Niobe r someonhe would contact you and tell you to meet her (to be
awakened). Then the game would close, and take you to the subscription
page. Here you could close it and uninstall if you don't want to play
it. But if you do, go ahead and register.

Then, when you log back into the game, it would start for
you the same way (make ur char, choose red or blue pill and so on).

Do you think this will make the new players aware of the
games small flaws, and not subscribe? I think not. Seeing PvP at Mara C
with all the cool moves and hyperjumping, will make them almost
immedialetly exit the game and go for a subscription.

Community General Discussion About Code Bits and fragments About Code Bits and fragments Zimb 0 11/27/2005 11:51
Is anyone feeling that gangmembers carrying codefrags/bits is a bit unmatrixy? If so, read this:

I'm proposing that coders would have tools with which you can extract
codebits from the matrix itself, from trees, from benches, from gangs
and so on. Different areas and items would give different
codebits/frags, and the stream would be quite slow. It would work kinda
like Data miner, but you get codebits. Maybe you get them in chunks of
5 (codebits) or 1-3 (frags), and occasionally a red code fragment.

Extracting code from sims/gangs would make them weaker, but they could
attack you anytime. And if you kill them, you could extract code from
the in peace.

If you extract on one place too long, maybe agents would come because
you are disturbing the matrix, but the amount you extract would not
make a big difference to the matrix stability.

Why should coders need to search for a long time for codefrags when they are there right infront of their noses?

Community General Discussion Inter-server archives Inter-server archives Zimb 0 11/24/2005 10:07
I just had this idea that would make archives much more worthwhile to visit and much more populated.

Put them on a separate server.

People from all three servers could go into an inter-server archive,
and meet new people, have pvp, have parties and so on. This would make
the archives more populated and more fun to visit.

The archive server would be closely tied with the other servers, almost
merged, so character info can transfer fast between them. It would not
be available in the server list, only way in would be through the
archive proxies. When going out or when you die, the system would
recognise from which server you came from, and transfer you safely
back. Maybe it could work like between the matrix and the real world -
the main server (syntax, recursion, vector) being the "real" world, and
the archive server being the "matrix", so your RSI data stays in the
main server, you just play in the archive.

This was an idea that i got when i read gothiques post about 3 cities
in one server. I know it will probably never be done, but i'll post it
anyway.

So the idea is to have the cities on each server be totally different
cities, even from different land. We know that the Matrix wasn't just
one city, though everything happened in one city (i think the Matrix
was worldwide...), but the whole earth. So, each server would represent
different cities. The cities would have different NPC styles, different
mission contacts and different Main Mission, and different live events
(maybe).

I know it will probably never be done, as i said earlier, but
nevertheless...quite nice, don't you think? I know the idea is quite
crazy...:smileytongue:

Community General Discussion IDEA: MA Combo attacks IDEA: MA Combo attacks Zimb 0 11/21/2005 03:28
Well i got this little idea for combos, now when Combat Upgrade 2.0 is coming and all, it would be a nice addition.

So, the idea is to link up your attacks, in one big combo. Here's how it would work:

First, you choose your attack from the hotbar, and it would go to the
queue. But wait! Then you choose another attack, and then another, that
would be in the queue after each other. When your turn comes, all these
would be executed after each other, in quick succession, animations
interlocking, creating a big MA attack. The damage it would do, is for
the devs to figure out, so it wouldn't become too big.

For this to work, you would be required to have an
Ability, Attack Combo (which every MA tree would get, in different
forms), that would enable the combos. And a new stat/buff would be
introduced: Melee Combo Combat Tactics, that would work like Melee or
ranged tactics; it would determine if you hit with your combo or not.
Then when you reach higher levels, you could also use guns (or MELEE
WEAPONS!!!) in your combo.

So instead of i-fire-you-fire, you could continuosly fire your weapon,
same for the opponent, an duck into cover while you do and so on.
Reloading would bring a pause to the firing. Dodge Ranged would work
like normal, but with dodge animations (like Neo or agents but not so
good, as they do, of course).

Now, ammo would be introduced. You could just have, say 30/90 shots for
machine gun, and 20/60 for pistol. The ammo wouldn't be expensive, but
you would have to get new or engage in close combat when you run out.
Using weapons in close combat would not consume ammo (unrealistic, but
oh well...).

buff it as you want. Custom buffs. Now this sounds crazy. I know, so
here is the rules:

You could have, say 20 Buff points with the tool. These could only be
applied on one single item, so you can't have many Custom buffed items.
Some buffs require more Buff Points (BP), some less.

Example pricelist:

Melee and Ranged combat tactics: 5BP

Dodge ranged: 4BP

Melee/Ranged/Viral resistance: 2BP

Viral deflection: 3BP

Melee/Ranged/Viral damage: 3BP

and so on.

Maybe if you are higher level the buffs would cost less or you would
have more BP to start with, so you could make a clothing article
suitable for your level, so a lvl 50 just doesn't get  2MCT, 2 DR,
3VD on one, that would seem a bit too low. Or if you are a Martial
Artist, the MCT would cost less and so on.

The complete list of buffs would be in the tool, and you could choose
what you want for your clothing article. The tool would also make the
clothing article non-sellable and non-tradeable, and restore it's
stability and purity. Click accept and your item is ready and buffed.

You could also save the tool, and wait for a new batch of BP from the devs SMILEY
