OK this is what I come up with (edited for brevity):
CODEMAN wrote: ....This really boils down to people not wanting to create new characters, but wanting instant gratification. So grinding is boring? So what? Name an MMO that doesn't require you to grind? It's not a good policy to start eliminating things if you wish to keep your product going. Have you seen the reactions on these forums when a patch is late? Imagine what would happen if we were all put on 1 server and it went down? I would support an option for people to transfer their character between servers, but I think this should only be allowed once. At the end of the day, everyone pays their subscription fee, and all SOE has to do is provide a game that works. Beyond that we're really not entitled to anything more.
And this: CODEMAN wrote: Yes SOE, merge the servers. See, I'm bored on the server I chose to play on. I want my current 50 to be transferred to another server. Or better yet, you should bring players over to my server so I wont be bored anymore! I know I can make a new character on one of those other servers, but I don't want to take the time to level it to 50. Hey I know! You could just automatically make my new character lvl 50 and save me the trouble! While you're at it, could you email all the collector's items and stop charging me a fee to play? That would be swell guys.
Sounds like you feel as though a merge would be rewarding bad behaviour, specifically laziness and selfishness.
I profoundly and deeply disagree with this assertion on many, many levels. But, to each their own.

It was actually said to everyone who was at the official anniversary party in response to the questioning of both myself and other known and unknown members of the community. Does this equal official? I'd say it does, even if it doesn't replace a proper Producer's Letter which he had previously stated he would be writing. Just because you weren't there to hear it doesn't mean it wasn't said.
Oh I'm not saying it wasn't. I'm just saying telling people at an event that not everyone was able to participate in (for whatever reason) is no substitute for a simple letter that can be drafted in two minutes and given to Virrago to put up on DN1.

I mean if there's nothing else to say, then there's really no point for this "magical" letter.

Lol. No one Fails quite like SOE Fails.
I like Zippy's idea but I see no reason to support any more SOE games with my hard-earned dollar when my hard-earned dollar is not being used to support this SOE game.* It's like paying bonunes to AIG execs for driving the company into the ground. * And even if all of their attention and resources are focused on The Agency for a while, and I were to enjoy that for a couple years while I were to subscribe and invest my time and money into it, who's to say they won't drop that attention and those resources the second they stop showing a large profit? Cause you know they'll just throw us into the garbage heap along with MxO, SWG, etc. The bottom line? What makes a company successful in the long run? Is it the company that says: A) "The Customer is my Friend. If I treat my customers well, I will make a long-term customer who will continue to support my business over the years through high times and low, and spread positive word of mouth through friends and family over time." B) "The Customer is my Enemy. Let's fleece these jerks for as much as we can. If they don't like it, who cares, there's always another pool of suckers for us to leach a fast buck from." Hmmm, I wonder which philospohy SOE subscribes to? A or B? Hmmm.....

The truth is that the Oracle was in league with Halborn. Now that the anniversary is here, they've left the Matricks and all has returned to it's normal state of "war" in the vicious cycle we know as the Matricks Online. Cookie?

I suppose our experiences were different. Also, I'm talking ingame as much as, if not more than, the forums. Maybe as a newer player the negative comments stuck out to me more, but I've been hearing about how bad SOE was for MxO and how they ruined the game since the first time I popped out of Uriah SW.
They were crying wolf, they did it too many times but now the wolf is really at the door. I'm sorry you got that from others ingame. I have been fortunate not to hear much of that sort of sentiment, aside from an occasional, random snide comment while people are just shooting the breeze or whatever.

It's that attitude that enables a company to get away with the crap that SOE gets away with. I don't need to thank them, my money does that for me. You people act like SOE is doing some kind of favor... I mean, you do realize that you're paying for this service, right? There are no more whiners in this business than there is in any other. You only get to SEE the whiners because of the forums. If you've ever worked in any kind of customer service, be it food & beverage, fast food, hospitality, car repair, anything... you have upset customers. And what do you do with an upset customer (assuming you're a decent employee and not just a waste of flesh)? You try to turn their poor experience around to become a good, memorable experience. Why should the MMO business be any different? As customers, we're constantly given the "You'll get nothing and you'll like it!" attitude, and we put up with it. What has SOE done to try to make our experience a good one?
I appreciate that. I really truly do. I also agree with a lot of what you've said, but... There are a lot of people who still pay monthly for this game that haven't been satisfied by the product they've received in years. That is the attitude that that enables a company to get away with the crap that SOE gets away with. People who whine* and moan and still pay their subscriptions month after month after month. Those who are thanking SOE for just keeping MxO alive are enabling a trend that has already long since been established. If I'm not satisfied with a product, I stop paying for it. If I really liked that product, I am generally inclined to write a letter to explain why I wasn't satisfied and why I stopped paying. This has, more times than not, resulted in those companies going a little bit out of their way to get me back. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If every single one of us canceled our subscriptions and wrote letters, I doubt that would ellicit anything more from SOE than a relieved sigh that it was finally all over as they finished burying MxO. Since I started playing a year ago, all I've heard about was how evil and hateful SOE was toward MxO. Many of the vets told me stories about how things used to be and how they are now. I missed out on some seriously awesome stuff. I've been told over and over again that MxO is the fatherless* child of the SOE enterprise. I've been told that they've cut things, made false promises, and ignored cries for attention. I've witnessed the death of live events and the vanishing act of the sole remaning designer. I've watched the story, which most people didn't even like, come to a screeching halt. My attitude toward this game has been molded and shaped by those who hold it so dearly and have been here for it all. Am I thankful that SOE is keeping this brain-dead vegetable alive so that I can continue to play it and interact with the people that are still here? Hell yes. There's still a lot of things I have left to do yet. A lot of people like me have listened closely to a lot of people like you, and I am not the only one who is thankful that I still have something to come to. (* = personal censorship)

Somthing weird is going on on Vector....I think some people have been messing with the lugs. I think some people have been deleting the non-Smith lugs (using a method that I don't want to get into, but is easy to figure out). Then I think people are stashing the Virion in places they shouldn't be through exploits. It stinks to have to wait till Thursday to have access to them again. The Smith lugs are the best part of the AE, and they should be accessible.

I don't know what the solution is. Its like both hands are tied behind our backs now with absolute zero support. I can think of some bandaids to allieviate the situation alittle...like a server merge, unlocking the Halloween masks and/or other older content, maybe even a reduced monthly rate. But I don't know if they're even willing to do that.
So...who knows? Looking forward to the Producer's Letter, at least bad news is better than no news. I think we just want to know where we stand so we can proceed from there.

Yeah but I don't think you can sustain a monthly subscription based MMO - especially one whose primary appeal is dynamic, interactive, and ongoing-storyline-based - with a zero-content game. Especially in this economy! I just dont see how you can do that. Have you ever been cruising along the highway at 70 mph and thrown your car into "Park?" Lol same idea, generally unadvised

But I've got a new incarnation on Syntax, and I am looking forward to farming up a storm. Great news.
You're joking, right?
Who exactly is going to code and implement all of these wonderful items for our fabulous 6th Anniversary in March 2010? BTW where's all of the wonderful items for our fabulous 5th Anniversary in March 2009? Please explain.
Pleasure needs no explanation. Smarmy smugness accepts none. Have a nice day!
Well said. Some individuals may see this as an insult, while others accept what can be granted for paying fifteen dollars (or X amount of insert currency here) a month to enjoy a game that is obviously dying. There are optomists in this world who try to find a silver lining in the darkest of things, sugaree just happens to be one of those people. Pessimists can't see past the fact that someone who can hope and dream are actually doing only that (or in rare cases, hopeful wishing) for things to change. Will it happen? Probably not. But...why take that away? Why don't you try to explain who will undertake her requests for all the 'wonderful items' for our fabulous anniversary? She probably doesn't have an answer (and neither do most), and her wishes do not warrant an explaination, as she stated. Some of us just try to explore and enjoy the game for what it's worth and not worry about trivial details on trivial things...like who is going to code all the items she'd like to see or implement past iterations of unattainable items at present. As for me, at least we're getting something. SOE could have easily said screw you guys, just rot and burn until you cannot any longer! The fact they're still putting the game on life support at least leaves me to believe they're not quite done yet. Then another part of me says otherwise. Moral of the story: If you don't like the game for what it's become, the cancel button is in your subscriptions page. Take a couple clicks of the left mouse button to just leave this game alone. But if you're going to stick around, respect what people wish and don't ask trivial questions about trivial issues when someone is merely trying to give ideas and support for a game she likes to play. Just my two cents on the matter.
Its not trivial at all. In fact its probably the farthest thing from trivial in regards to this game. This is the reality of the situation now, even if the tone came off as harsh or incredulous. Consider that this is the exact opposite of the very thing that got us to a four year Anniversary in the first place...a dynamic, interactive, storyline driven game. Its no wonder that the majority of the players are very dissappointed, to say the least! Optimism or pssimism has nothing to do with it. The semi-official word is is that there will be exactly zero new content forvermore. So at a certain point its going to sound really silly for people to post pie-in-the sky wishlists for content when there will never be any more content. In fact, to some, it might even rub salt in the wound. Just sayin.

Not news that the game will be shutting down, but basically just confirmation that we're stuck in stasis right now without any real hope of things improving any time in the forseeable future. No updates. No new dev(s). No new content and/or storyline. No tools to assist players in creating their own. But the game will stay running as it is.
Thats a really sad way to go. Even if we had a dev commit 10% of his time, thats 10% more than we have already. I think its pretty miserable that there will be exactly zero content forevermore.
You know even doing a couple relatively simple things like a server merge and unlocking the Halloween & Winter masks would at least put us in a better place by way of entertaing ourselves and interacting with each other more in our current situation. I guess even that's too much to ask for. Zero content forevermore. Think about it. This is where we are at now. You know if I had the choice between death by entropy and attrition with the servers up, or a definate shutdown date I'd prefer a shutdown date....with like a month prior, turn the sky into the eyes in the sky, have nasty Machine messages on the billboards (like end of Beta), unlock Holiday Helpers, pumpkins, zombies, the Smith virus, just go all out in a full apocalytic bang! Its an extremely sad state of affairs. Its almost worse than the servers shutting down then to leave the servers on up indefinately and empty. Who knows, maybe they'll pull the plug eventually.

Oh well. I'd rather hear bad news than no news. I'd prefer to know if there is a shutdown date, if there is one, so I can plan accordingly. Always better to know the bad news then to keep things hidden from us (which accomplishes nothing except creating lots of resentment).

Yes on a merge but I dont think they will do even that.
Death by entropy and attrition is a horrible way to go. Eventually they'll have to pull the plug, if the entire MxO population literally drops below 50 or 40 or so. I can see that happening in a few months, sadly.

The logic is very, very faulty here IMHO. Maybe they should charge $30 or $50 for a monthly subscription rate for MxO, because simply to jack in to an mmo with no content is an honor and a priveledge, and we should be fotunate that SOE allows us to pay them to jack into a dead game, and that it is insolent and offensive to ever question them or even to give an explanation of exactly what we should expect to get for our subscripion fees. After all, All Corporations are Always right All the time.* *Just ask AIG, General Motors, Bear Stearns, Washington Mutual, Circuit City, Madoff Investment Group, etc....OK maybe not the best analogy but certainly no worse than your bombed out Afghan village spiel.

Fixed.
Face it, they could put more money into this thing, but then they'd be losing money since it wouldn't enhance interest in the game and then they'd shut it down completely. As a company, it just wouldn't make any sense. Unless you want to give them the funds yourself, complaining isn't going to get you anywhere. Better to have it run completely player-driven than to not have it run at all.

San Diego is lovely, you get the wonderful climate of Southern California with a lot less sprawl/traffic as, say, Orange or Los Angeles or Riverside County. If you have to live in So Cal, you could do a lot worse than San Diego. (Also, no hellish humidity!)

I think Walrus has been locked in the SOE Vault permanently. His crime? With his Producer's Letter, he was about to break the Cardinal Rule: Do Not Talk About Fight Club The Matrix Online. (He also was about to break the second rule as well).

How often do the luggables reset? If in the case of one district in my server, some jerks deleted all the lugs except the Smith Virion, then took that and stashed it in a place accessable only by exploits!

No, the Sundance reference at the end of the trailer was just that it was shown in the US for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival. Release date is June 9th.

Halloween = Zombies, just like Anniversary = Smiths. Honestly, my old stance of not liking the fact we have we actually have RSI masks of main characters still stands but since we have them and there is no more story but that which we make ourselves, why not let us have access to all of them anyway?
I concur 100%. If things went back to normal and we actually got our own dev, and we actually got new content, and we actually got a new or resumed official storyline, we can re-lock the masks again, and return Halloween masks to their own special specialness. We have no dynamic, interactive storyline content anymore, and allowing the masks would be much less abusable than say storyteller tools and/or allowing certain players to spawn npcs. After all Rarebit and Walrus have both said "The story in in your hands now." I mean, we do have a ton of new RSI captures anyways, just this makes it more consistent (like...you can be Lupin but not Ethereal 1....You can be Jezebeth but not a Succubus....you can be Captain Raeder/Danielle Smith/Elite Commado Leader but you cant be Tengu/Gargy/TM....it doesn't make too much sense to me). I think it would be a nice gesture to the MxO community, and it wouldn't require barely any effort, or the creation of a single new ingame item.

NavMatrix wrote: This update screwed my MxO so badly. I tried logging in after the Update and it told me that I had some corrupted files. So I ran the system scan thingy that's available through the launcher. It did some stuff and I got some "unexpected result". Code -30, I think. Anyway, I closed the launcher and tried to run it again and my laptop crashed. When I restarted it, it said there was some problem with the shortcut on my desktop. So I tried running the program from the actual folder and it told me that I had to run MxO from the shortcut on the desktop. Somehow, my shortcut got deleted and didn't end up in the Recycle Bin. And now, I can't do anything at all. And I really don't feel like re-installing because the probablility of it happening again is high. And that's a long time to patch everything. >_>
Any ideas or suggestions? I would call or submit an email via Station: http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bi...p?p_faqid=10404 If its an easy fix, you might just create a thread in our Support forums here. There might be someone who has experienced this problem in the past and has come up with an easy fix. You could always reinstall the game but I'd do that only as a last resort. If it does come to that, make sure you save your screenshots or config files or anything you wnat to keep that might be in the Program Files folder.

Its a good thing you got to see the Star Trek Experience, it's about to close after a ten year run. In fact, I'm surprised it was still open! I got to see it once, so I'm happy.
