Several community members are involved in developing a project and corresponding website to coordinate the revival of The Matrix Online. This is the beginning.

(I just got the forum up. There's no styling (default look only now), but that's coming soon. I'm currently working on integrating the forum with blog/content management from Wordpress. So pay no attention to the bare URL for now.)

Get over there and start posting what you can do, what you are looking for, etc. We'll start putting something together.

But you have to actually try at this. I know in the past there have been community projects that have wilted away because of inaction and lack of interest. Well, guess what folks? You just experienced the very last "official" event that The Matrix Online will ever have. All we have left are those in the community that love putting together stories and events for the other players to have fun with. This website, I hope, is where all of us will get together to make this work.

The full idea:

1. Archive of Matrix history, including past storylines and events of The Matrix Online.

2. Central location for engaging stories and events (RP, PVP, Parties, tournaments, whatever is fun) crafted by the community members that truly care about the Matrix experience (News and details of events and storyline).

3. Non-SOE controlled discussion boards.

We would also like to coordinate with some of the other community projects. I'd love to work with the people behind mxomainframe.com - either combining our efforts or just a strong relationship linking to each other. If there are any MXO radio stations still broadcasting, maybe we can work on something together. We don't want this to be a clone of The X or even of Radio Free Zion, but who knows what could come about.

We aren't getting anymore story content in game. So what you all have on your harddrives right now is no longer a game for most of you.

It's now a creative tool.

Rarebit will post his story notes soon for how the rest of the year was to go. Let's get some creative folks together and do something with that, and beyond. We could set up a Fan Story group to make unofficial official cinematics, comics, and yes even missions and events. The Algorithm Black crew set a great example. Now, for the people who want more out of the game these fan stories and events will be the only choice.

I'm a web developer by trade and just recently got laid off due to the economy, but with some severance pay, so I've got some free time. If enough talented people are in to this idea, I can set up a website to host all of this and even an archive of times gone by.

The Revenant has done something especially abnormalastical! First, after a long and hard vote, we have decided to accept a Machine into our membership - everyone welcome Optimus Prime into our ranks!

We are also proud to announce that we have promoted Neo to Supreme Dictator level 3!
We'd also like to mention that Morpheus has decided to come back and join us, as Private First Class!

Also, we've upgraded to our new tag color - ultraviolet!

I was thinking about this in the shower right before bed and had to reboot my computer to post it...

Everything is connected!

Beginning of the game: The General and his troops disguise themselves as Agents to wreak havoc. There are several documents to support this.
Soon after: Morpheus was killed by The Assassin, supposedly, by bullets that The Assassin claimed were made especially for him.
A few months ago: The General teams up with Niobe and Zion and warns not to trust The Frenchman. He then provides the group with special "cheat codes" that could enhance their abilities. Anome stole the cheat codes, and trapped Niobe in a construct, and his group Unlimit has been causing havoc ever since. Zion and The Merovingian team up to free Niobe...
Recently: Some connections have been made regarding the powers granted by the cheat code vials, and the powers of The Assassin. One Unlimit operative claimed that The Assassin was mad at them for stealing his power.

My conclusion!
The General is behind it all. The General gave The Assassin cheatcodes to create his amazing power (or the cheat codes and the Assassin's power are from the same source at least). The General then wanted The Assassin to kill Morpheus. Why? The same reason people have been saying for a long time - The General and his troops are the program "souls" of the Sentinels, who no longer have a real purpose. They want the war to start up again so they can resume doing what they do best. And they wanted to accomplish this by spurring along Zion be mad at the Merovingian for killing Morpheus, and thus fighting them, and for Zion to attack the Machines with their newfound abilities from the cheat codes. The wrinkle in the plan happened when Anome stole the cheatcodes to use for his own means. The General wants to stop Anome, and why is this? Because all of the organizations are working together to stop Anome. The General wants them to work against each other.

So what can we expect? If I am right, The General will work on eliminating Anome while at the same time incriminating another org, or creating some other way for the Organizations to clash.

Is it human to fear change?

I'm not talking about fear as if the bogey man was under your bed, but the intense distress and anxiety that perpetually accompany any kind of change in our daily lives. Is this hardwired into our DNA, or is it simply another system of control that our minds have not yet become aware of?

That word control, I had spent many sleepless nights wrestling with it. Some things were simply beyond our control, on the surface, in the real world. Weather, for instance, is far beyond the realm of my control. The weather has been a significant problem concerning our attempts at reclaiming the surface. Acid rain kills crops, scars workers and delays things on a daily basis. Some kind of new flu epidemic has sprung up in the northern sector of our Reclamation Zone, and everyone has been pulled out of the area until further research can be done. Our attempts to communicate with the Machines on this issue have gone unanswered and we fear they knew about the virus to begin with.

I have no control over the Machine response toward my operatives inside the Matrix as well. The tension is building and some of the dreams and goals that I have had may need to be put on hold because if the Truce does break, my people on the surface will die first when the Sentinels return.

Many good operatives have been lost in and out of the Matrix. Machines act just as brutally as the Merovingian if they catch you in the wrong place, at the wrong time. I have one of my leading Captains in a bunk back in Zion thanks to their thoughtless acts.

Many of the lost have been casualties of The Real, and the still unknown dangers that lay further out. Their loss means more to me than just the individual man or woman. I am a faction leader and must look at the overall loss of training and equipment, as well as the emotional aspect of losing a friend.

It is in times like these, when we feel totally Out of Control, that we must look for the things that we can control. It was with this thought in mind that I called upon an old friend with an offer.

I watched as Foxxdie appeared next to me, in Vauxton West, his RSI taking a few seconds to fully recompile. He was dressed differently than usual, unmatched and wearing a bandanna instead of his usual "black on black" ensemble. His demeanor had also changed, I couldn't tell for sure, but something was bothering him.

I thought about my life as a Redpill, and everything that had transpired to get me where I was. I closed my eyes for a second and the memories flashed like pictures, in a mental slide show. The pod towers, where I first opened my real eyes; the Oracle and her cookies; Morpheus and his bombs; the Agents; Neurophyte; the Assassin; the Sleepwalkers; the Cypherites and even E Pluribus Neo and the Kid. Foxxdie was in many of these mental snapshots, and his friendship had been important to me no matter what turns his personal beliefs had taken. When I stepped off the Revenant for the last time, a part of me stayed with it, and when an act of sabotage destroyed it; a part of me died in the wreckage of that great ship. First thought to be dead, Foxxdie survived and he eventually found a new Revenant, so that the name that had been fighting for Zion since the beginning should live on.

I turned to Commander Foxxdie and saluted, then said. "I think it's time for us to come home. "

The Revenant was founded in beta, but didn't hit it's stride until the game went live. Since then, The Revenant has been at the forefront of The Matrix Online. Due to game-related troubles, the faction was shut down in January 2006 and the distinguished members went their seperate ways. Some left the game, some joined other factions, and some made new factions. Yet the spirit of the faction could never die - as its very name implies. And so, fulfilling the destiny our name implies, The Revenant is back - reborn and seeking redemption.

I was the leader of the original faction. When the faction was shut down, my good friend, and Revenant council member, GQubed formed his own great faction named Exodus. Now the both of us are joining forces once again to breathe life into the reborn faction as equal leaders with backing by a council of game vets Steege and Deakkon.

Story-wise:
The members of the newly reformed Revenant realize that things are very wrong in this world, however we also realize that starting a war and creating more conflict is doing nothing to help. Our mission has expanded to become the protection of both freedom and the livelihood of humanity by respecting the truce Neo established and seeking to strengthen it and improve life in this world in any way possible. However, those that abuse their power and standing will not be tolerated and we will not hesitate to act on such abuses.

Game-wise:
We would be best described as an RP/PVP faction with strong emphasis on continuing the storyline while remaining faithful to the source material. We are all avid fans of the Matrix movies after all. We regularly participate in Live Events and Player Run Events, and create Player Run events of our own. We even enjoy dropping in for some fun PVP. We are all here to expand the amount of fun our players and those that interact with us have.

Ties:
Being such an old and successful faction, we have ties and good friends in several other factions from all organizations. Currently in planning is something which will enable us to use these ties to improve gameplay for everyone involved (more information to come).

Track Record

Live Events:
Played an integral role in every live event that has taken place (Not counting the "Blue Sky" mini-event). The Revenant came in first place in the live event "Double Cross" by tracking down the killer of our friend Vashuo.

Player Run Events:
We have participated in many Player Run RP events including the very first large scale RP event - the "Matrixulated" event ran by good friends the Prophets of Peace.
We have also created and ran several events ourselves including the first RP event post-server merge - the "Outbreak" event, also known as the "Codestreamerror553" event. Other events we've run include "The Path Not Taken" and "Out of Sight."

If you are a mature Matrix fan who would like to join others trying to get more fun out of the game I urge you to check us out. If you are the leader of a faction without many active members feel free to contact any of us as we would love to have you, and established faction leaders will be granted higher status as they have earned it.

We've moved on from our labeled-as-terrorists past and instead are concentrating on what can be done now to make things better. We hope you'll join us in the fight for the future.

1. It's not a real organization.
2. You are effectively alienating yourself from the majority of the game. You aren't "supposed" to be doing Zion missions but that's all you can do anyway, and you still flag as Zion.
3. The storyline is not suited to these splinter organizations so you are wasting your time.
4. The "Philosophy" of EPN is not well-defined and flucuates.
5. Due in part to #4, the direction of the EPN organization is too heavily dictated by the Liaison Officer and players.
6. The flippin' Kid is the leader... and he was the worst part about Revolutions.
7. Since the group has not been clearly defined people assume things about you by having the EPN tag. In fact, during past critical missions EPN was said to have used codebombs, but then The Kid and the liaisons have said that was the work of rogue elements and not what EPN believes in...
8. Hanging out in Churches is lame.
9. Some machinists are ok. =P
10. The liaison officer is horrible.

I'm going back to what The Revenant was all about - freedom for humanity is still the biggest goal, but the way to get there is more peaceful and underground.
While it may be for OOC reasons, I'll write up an in character story to explain the return to Zion.

I've only ever seen a small part of one episode of Naruto, but this fan-made trailer makes it look really cool. I guess The Matrix just has that effect. Enjoy!

Those kids and their "Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Games."
Back when I was young, we used to do things instead of pretending to do them.
I would walk 8 miles in the snow to fight someone. Nowaways, kids just press a few buttons and they get to use their "interlocks" and martial arts. And when I was young, after I beat someone I could make fun of them and tea-bag them. Nowadays, kids have to deal with CCRs, among other problems like drugs. Plus, there's no tea-bagging! How can you have a good fight without the tea-bagging?
I guess there's just some things that I won't understand, but I urge you kids to shut down the internets and go pick a fight near a hardline like "the Greatest Generation" did when we were young. It builds character.

Hey I think a neat little thing to do for the new players would be to escort them to all the movie locations. I think a good day would be Wednesday night, if everyone else is cool with that.

We'd need a bunch of volunteers with patcher (Rez), and recall.

Then we get a bunch of new players from Uriah and show them the sights.

We'd start off with Debir Court in Mara Central.
Then to the Heart o' the City hotel in Stamos.
Then Metacortex in Morrel.
Then the Government Building Lobby in Park East.
And finally Club Hel in Hampton Green. (If someone could get a PB 4 mission ready, or a meet The Merovingian mission in Hel, that would be super sweet.)

With Multi-Fighting loaded, damage from Melee Free Fire is reduced. Not sure if that is possible or not with the current system though.
Maybe, if you are in interlock and being attacked by Melee Free Fire as well, it gives you a buff to Melee Accuracy.

As I'm piloting the ship through the tunnels my mind wanders onto the events that have taken place lately.
Too many puzzle pieces, and none of them fit together.

"What the hell are we doing? I barely know anymore. Some case the machinists are looking for... sounds like another MacGuffin in this dreamworld. We need real answers. Real solutions."

One thing... well person... sticks out though. Like a knife jabbed through my skull.
