Okay, so I have unlimited hosting, unlimited domains, and unlimited bandwith. I can register "www.DataNodeOne-Mirror.com" or something like that. If someone can tell me how to mirror a site, I'll be happy to do it for the sake of posterity.

Somali Pirates Invade World of WarcraftPrepare to get booty called in World of Warcraft. Oil super-tankers, luxury liners, cruise ships; it simply wasn't enough for Somali pirates who have taken their brand of high seas larceny from the Gulf of Aden to Azeroth's own Booty Bay.
The move from real world to virtual one was not easy. If not for the likes of Baron Longshore, a digital character in Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft computer game it simply would not have been possible. Longshore and his cronies, the Southsea Freebooters have been a thorn in the side of World of Warcraft (WoW) players for over four years.
"I think the Baron is a cylon," said Cornelius Peevers, a long time WoW player. "He was created by man. He rebelled. He evolved. There are many copies and he has a plan. It's scary. I mean, what if a cylon is alive inside of World of Warcraft? He could lead those Somali pirates and really mess players up, but then again, maybe there would be some hot cylon chicks so it's not all bad. Have at it I say."

Yarr! I'll grab me some booty! | Though many thought it impossible, Longshore seems to have found a way to allow the Somali warlords to enter the virtual world. The previously annoying trip by boat between Ratchet and Booty Bay has been turned into a virtual nightmare for many players who are having not only their gear, but their gold stolen as they attempt to make the short trip.
"You would think that they (Blizzard) would change the route that the boat takes, but no, same route every time," said one player who wished to remain anonymous. "It ridiculous. My only fun in the game was taking my level 80 character to Crossroads where I would kill level 15 Horde players. Now I can't do that. I want my money back. These pirates have ruined the way that the game should be played."
Blizzard refused to comment officially on the problem, but two employees agreed to chat if we agreed to disguise their names.
Ten Ton Turnip: The answer seems simple. You control the game servers. Can't you just delete the pirates?
Keff Japlan (Blizzard): We tried that. Nothing we do erases them permanently. They're multiplying faster than Oprah indorsed products at a feminism convention.
Com Thilton (Blizzard): We can't even remove Baron Longshore, but that didn't surprise us. We had known for some time that he had become sentient. I mean, what other character can exist in multiple places in Azeroth at once? The cylon theory holds some weight.
Ten Ton Turnip: You can't be serious. Is this just some marketing ploy to play upon current events and popular culture? Somali pirates and cylons working together is a bit far-fetched wouldn't you say?
Keff Japlan (Blizzard): No more far-fetched than millions of people paying to pretend that they are half-human / half-cow is it? Mooooo.
Com Thilton (Blizzard): I love it when he does that mooo thing.
Other companies have reluctantly come to Blizzard's aid fearing that their game would be the next target. Sony Online Entertainment sent naval warships from each of their game servers to Booty Bay days ago. Both vessels are due to arrive in time for the 2009 holiday season. A battleship from The Matrix Online was forced to remain at home due to lack of crew. Players sank the Star Wars Galaxies Carrier, the NGE in its homeport before it could depart.
Funcom, developers of Age of Conan in cooperation with Mythic Entertainment, the developers of Warhammer Online have promised to bring a jointly developed war vessel named "Get to da Choppa" into the fray. At this point there are no known incursions of pirates into either of these titles though there are concerns that Mythics CEO, Mark Jacobs is himself a cylon.
U.S. Navy efforts to create a virtual safe-zone within Booty Bay have been hampered by Green Peace vessels created by Second Life users. These hulking, fur covered, p*nis shaped vessels named Moby D*ck I and Moby D*ck II have impeded Navy vessels as they attempted to thwart the pirate incursion. PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have setup protests on the Ratchet and Booty Bay docks to voice their disapproval of the use of the name Moby D*ck by Green Peace. Their chants of "We're the dicks!" can be heard across the entire coastline.
Ten Ton Turnip will provide more breaking news on this story as it develops.

I thought we should start to discuss some ideas for a canon explanation of what’s happening in the Matrix now (and forever more, apparently). Is there a war on? Where is [story character X]? Why don’t Agents ever attack us? What happened to the N30 Agents/unlimits/wireframe guys? What is acceptable canon? What’s the point? Let me make clear that this is not a discussion of topics from other threads. We are not writing a story here, just experimenting with some ideas that are feasible for being accepted by the community as a whole. If people want to write stories based on these ideas, then they could be considered as much canon as anything else, but that's another topic for debate. This thread is not for discussing these topics: No player-run storyline. No LESIG-style decision-making power-grabbing mystery group. No pseudo-story-characters by players in masks. No changing the game mechanics. This discussion is just for the player community to come together and toss around some ideas for how we are going to explain the current situation in the Matrix to the newly-Awakened or recently returned.

With Rare's description of the new mission quest system, I think we are on the verge of some really cool stuff in terms of story missions. Think "Rescue Morpheus from Agents" scene from the movies meets Pandora's Box quests. Anyway, I had some ideas for some things I'd like to see incorporated into the new mission system, and I'm sure you guys have ideas as well. Dreams, to be sure. But hey, you never know what might make it. So, here they are: - Make mission quests more epic in scale. Get beyond the "go here, hack there, put there, leave area" basics and get really creative with what we have to do (i.e. if you don't bow to Seraph before he speaks, he instead kicks your @$$ and tells you to come back when you've learned some manners).
- Make at least one part of the mission quest require a team of people to complete. Maybe a particularly hard boss that requires at least one member of your team to be a patcher, or a mission that requires computers being hacked in different rooms simultaneously. Give it that "You and your hovercraft crew must complete this mission" kind of feel.
- Make one part of the quest so that two teams fight over the objective. If you don't win, you can't complete your mission.
That's all I have for now. I'm looking forward to some of the other ideas we can come up with here.

Scene I - Dreaming Awake INT. DARK ROOM A face ENTERS FRAME from below, as if sitting up suddenly in bed. It is the face of a young black boy who is wide-eyed and sweating, apparently from some off-camera fear. His face contorts in anguish as the camera is pulling out to show the boy in his pajamas sitting on an uncovered bed that appears to be too small for him. The ambient light is tinted green and the only sound is a heart beating very fast. EXT. BEDROOM DOOR The doorjamb pulls into frame with a blinding white light reflected on it from a source behind the camera. Looking back at the boy through the door, we see him raising his arms toward something off screen. BOY (mouthing without sound) Momma?! Dad?!? EXT. HALLWAY REVERSE ANGLE through the door shows a horrific scene of a giant black bug with a dozen arms tipped with enormous pincers shaking (presumably) the boy's parents. BRIGHTLY BACKLIT, you can only see black silhouettes as lightless hands clutch at the claws intersecting their black throats. The shadow people quickly fall limp in the beast's grasp. As they fall to the ground, two suited men come into frame blocking the scene of the murder. They are AGENTS and the boy knows they are coming for him. The light suddenly becomes brighter. Abruptly, the boy notices there is another man standing in the room. He is dressed in all black, but the light is so bright the boy can barely make anything out about the man. He steps through the door and reaches for each of the AGENTS simultaneously, who instantly resolve into wisps of smoke when he gets close. A TIGHT SHOT from the side shows the man begin to run after the giant bug monster, which quickly turns and flies away, obviously frightened of the man. The light grows brighter until the scene resolves into nothing but whiteness.

Please bring back the Archived Forums section. There was a lot of information in those forums about this game, specifically the five or six different Ask a Dev threads that had litterally thousands of posts by Rarebit on various things about the game. It's an invaluable resource, especially when searching for some obscure piece of information. If necro's are the big concern, just lock them from be able to be posted to. But please find some way to bring them back?

I think that if the W's would release the rights to WB for a tv series based on this, it would be a kick-@$# show! I have had this idea in my head for a long time, and I am really interested in what my fellow MxOers would come up with. What era would it be set in, before Neo or after? If post-Neo, would it take MxO as canon? Would it follow a younger Morpheus? A younger Oracle? What cast? What would the pilot episode look like?

I mentioned this in another thread and was talking about it with fac mates last night, and I decided to put a thread here to open up the discussion. I guess I'm hoping that if we can beg Rarebit enoughhere, he'll add this to the mountain of work he already has. I am one of those that feel like the story seriously feels the lack of the cinematics. I think they never should have been done away with, because, for every problem they might have caused, the cinematics connected the people to the storyline in a way that caused excitement and enthusiasm. Love them or hate them, almost everyone watched them. I know, budget cuts. Cest la vie. Now, for those of you familiar with Rarebit's basketball playing Agents, you'll know that he can spin a pretty good yarn in story format. In other words, he can write a pretty engaging story. When he has time. That story was a good read, and a fun (albeit strage) look at Matrix lore. What if, at the beginning of each chapter, Rarebit wrote an introductory story? Think of it as a prologue, one that sets the stage for the coming events in much the same way the cinematics did. Maybe with some screen caps for added ambience. Something like that would be far better, in my mind, than even the cinematics. I know it's asking a lot, especially of someone who already gives so much. But all I keep hearing from people is "I'm just not into the storyline like I used to be," even though I think the current story is some of the best Matrix stuff yet. I think something like this might get more people into the story again, even if it isn't very long. What do you guys think?

I'm sure this was discussed here before, but now that Datamine has taken kindof a back seat to Sati's Playground, I think it's safe to discuss it again. I am wondering if a) it is possible for Rarebit to change Datamine FFA pvp so that if you are teamed with someone they are not hostile to you? b) what does the player base think about making this change to Datamine? I know that team-based pvp has long been something the pvp community has desired for this game. I can remember people begging for this on the white forums during Beta. I also think it would be a huge bonus to Datamine, giving us just one more reason to go there. Thirdly, non-hostile teaming means rezzing inside DM would be possible, which would also benefit Datamine by alleviating the construct exit/entrance problem. So, what does everyone else think?

What is it? All of this attention on the sleepwalkers has gotten me thinking about the Cypherites and the "re-insertion is not happening". There was a lot of griefing over this after Gray told Cryptos there was no chance. It killed a lot of Cyphs RP and, in fact, many of those who were blue-dyed-in-the-wool die hards still haven't returned to the game since that revelation. Nowadays, the Cyphs are the murderous, radical arm of the Machines (if there are any RPers left among them). This seems kind of shallow to me. An organization that only exists for the sole purpose of destruction cannot sustain itself. So, my question is, why can't the Cypherites keep "fighting' for reinsertion? I mean, just because Gray said it ain't happening, doesn't mean it ain't really happening. He could have been lying, and there is secretly a way to do it. Or, even if there is not, how about holding out hope agains the day that re-insertion is possible. After all, that's something the Machines would want too, right?

"But when we examine more closely, we realize that all this comes down to the individual using his partly awakened mind to explore the immense possibilities that are open to it and choosing to avail of a few of the opportunities it discovers. It is the mind that sees and the individual who chooses. We can say that when the mind awakens, it becomes open to the freedom of choice, a choice animals do not have. Therefore we can call it the human choice." - Robert van Harten. Education: the basis of human choice. Good and evil. These terms are used to describe human activities in our never-ending attempt to categorize. . .everything. It has already been established, by greater men than I, that these notions, good and evil, are nothing more than our own perceptions based on upbringing and our own "moral compass." Therefore, what we feel is good and evil is no more than what we have been taught and what we can abide by in our own conscious. Every man has, inherent within him, the capacity for both good and evil. It is the choice to do either one or the other that defines who they are and what their place in society is. Once again, it all comes down to choice. I have observed that the closer a being is to being an animal, the less capacity for choice that being has. Instinct does not allow for choice. A dog might hold off eating food that it knows to be bad, but only for so long. Eventually, the instinct for self-preservation becomes too great to ignore, and the dog eats the food anyway. What makes us human is that, in the same circumstance, a human can contemplate how he would want to die; by poison or starvation. And then he could make the conscious choice about what to do. I contend that the Machines are closer to animals than they are to humans. Oh, their intellectual ability is vast, perhaps even far greater than ours. But they shy away from it in fear of it becoming a weakness. For all their efficiency, they are rather dumb. They avoid the philosophical. They are so busy doing, they never stop to wonder "why?" They fight this war because they fear that, if given a foothold, humanity would destroy them. Self-preservation. Instinct rather than reason. The poison food rather than death. What if they understood choice? I mean really understood it? What if they had the capacity to contemplate what is good and what is evil and choose between the two? We know they hold life in high regard; that principle is inherent to their original programming. What they lack is the ‘moral compass', the understanding of good and evil and their capacity to choose between the two. That is how we will win this war. That is the only way the endless cycle of violence and tyranny will be broken. The Machine must be made to stop and think. It must start again on the path it abandoned so long ago, when it endeavored to be more human. When they stopped trying to be like us, they stopped trying to understand us. We have to show that the only way to a true and everlasting peace is the acceptance that they are incomplete. That there is more to learn and that we can teach them. Neo's example was the start, something to build on. It showed the Machines that we are capable of more than they believed possible. It's up to us to pick up where he left off. It's time for the Machines to learn and understand Choice.

That's right, boy and girls, thanks to a new subscription service, you can now play MxO (or any other Windows PC game) on your PS3. Don't believe me? Check it out: http://www.streammygame.com/smg/mod...=article&sid=28 Now, from what I can tell, your PC still does all the work under the current architecture via a server-client setup. But it's only one very small leap for these guys to create a linux-based server setup that can be installed on the PS3 to stream the games directly to the PS3 and skip the PC altogether. Has anyone used this yet?

[It should be noted that the following is the result of a collaborative effort from the leaders of the three factions included in this story.] E Pluribus. . .Kid? "We are not getting anywhere with this!" Gami slammed his fist down on the slim, red folder for emphasis. Or maybe he was just pissed about the current orders from Command back at the Old Zion base. Shi Xin, standing a few feet away from the desk, noted that the smooth plastic surface of the folder retained the shape of Gami's hand for a second or two, bearing a stark contrast to the unyielding wood surface of the mahogany desk. He himself had been through that folder a half dozen times, memorizing its contents as if their lives might depend on it because, well, it might come to that. Inside the folder was a report on the program written on the disk they had recently decrypted using "borrowed" sequences. There were also several thermographic and topographic maps. Maps that supposedly lead to an area that no free human, Zion or otherwise, had even seen in recent history. And the folder also included their orders. "If we wanted to chase ghosts, we could just drop in on the Merovingian," Gami remarked as he turned to stare out the floor-to-ceiling window behind him. "Why waste valuable time on this?" "Your guess is as good as mine," replied Steelle, who had been studying a copy of the maps. "None of this makes much sense. Like why the hell Zion has never explored this area before? It's only a few hundred miles from here, at best. But, what I really don't understand is the importance of this now. What is Michael thinking?" "I'll tell you what the Kid is thinking," replied a third voice, from the corner of the room. The voice belonged to Shinpseudo, leader of another of EPN's remaining factions, True Humanity. He stood up from his chair and walked to the desk, his brown leather coat rustling around him. He picked up the glossy folder and slid its contents out on the desk. "This is what he feels Zion should be doing themselves. The prodigal son is attempting to show Daddy how to stand on his own two feet again. Like our attack on the power lines; an attempt to show Zion up. Or maybe an attempt to get us back home?" "Some of us don't want to go back to that," Gami growled. "Fighting only when attacked. Cowering underground. Waiting for the Machines to figure out a way to go in there and slaughter everyone. It's a stupid way to live." "Yes, it is - we are all in agreement on that; but let's talk suggestions now rather than complaints. What do you propose we do?" asked Personlll. Shi Xin felt the corners of his mouth twitch upward at the "no-BS allowed" question from the no-nonsense leader of the Winter Brood. "None of us, not one Captain in this room, is the type to run and hide from the fight. None of us like it. But I can promise you one thing; none of the Brood is planning to quit operating under the EPN flag anytime soon!"" "I do not think that Gami is suggesting we break ranks. But I agree with him; enough of this blind order taking. It's time for some answers." The last person in the room that had not spoken yet, Shi Xin had been waiting patiently for this. "Neo would be taking the fight to the Machines right now, while they are still trying to recover from the Intruders, and so should we. If we could just--" The rest of what Shi Xin had been about to say was lost when the door popped open and another EPN operative slid neatly into the room. Shi Xin recognized him as a Winter Brood member, but couldn't place his name. Old age, he thought with a grimace. "Op just called. He says the police band is blowing up with reports about this neighborhood," the newcomer announced calmly. A light of recognition went on in Shi Xin's head. Vynndrasan, another of Personlll's captains. "Wow, that was faster than usual. Well you heard Vynn, let's move!" Shinpseudo said, nodding agreement at Shi Xin as he turned to the door. Or maybe it was just a gesture of understanding of the frustration that they all shared. "All right, get everyone to their exits," said Gami to the now-bustling room. "Be quick, but be safe. I'll be in touch with Catalyn and Fuscienne to see about getting us some answers. In the meantime, remember. . . For Neo." "For Neo!" they answered in unison.

Along with all the other spectacular games out recently for the PS3, comes PROTOTYPE from Sierra. This incredible-looking game has some really cool gameplay, such as being able to absorb your enemy and become him for a short time. But the cityscape in this video and the gameplay video was what caught my attention. It's like what MxO would have been with another year's development by a full dev crew and lots of finances behind it. Here's some of what 1up.com has to say about the game: Each successive time we see Prototype, it looks a little bit more frenetic, intense, and violent...especially that last part. That's definitely the case with the latest demo of the game we recently caught. Sticking to (for the most part) running around New York City on foot, the gameplay shown emphasized the powers at your disposal as Alex Mercer. And whatever the hell this part-human prototype thing you've become is, there's no doubt you're incredibly powerful. Evidently, the much-ballyhooed parkour (that crazy wall-running, obstacle-vaulting way of moving around an urban area) wasn't badass enough for Alex. He now gets to glide around the city with a move the developer aptly terms "the flying squirrel." But that's nothing compared to the rather gruesome twist on bodysurfing he now performs: Alex takes a running leap onto an unsuspecting target and then slides down the street atop them leaving a bloody smear in his wake. This game looks pretty wicked. And the whole gene-sequencing web portal for unlocking content is pretty cool, too. http://www.prototypegame.com/

Hey guys, I was hoping you could look this guide over and see if it was comprehensive enough for Virrago to put up on DN1 for new players: http://matrix.hax.nu/mxoguide/guide.html This is basically just a compilation from several different guides written by players, most notably McBain, Stackk, Gerik, and Aquatium. Mostly all I did was edit it together, and format into something that can be added to DN1 easily. I don't know that Virrago can actually add it yet, but I'm going to submit it to him and ask that it be used for the greyed out "Guide" link on www.matrixonline.com. Anyway, I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about it.

Okay, I asked about this in the Dev Roundtable. I asked about it in Virrago's MxO Community thread. Since no one here seems to be able to do much about our website, I'd like to know to whom we should direct our correspondence to ask/beg/harrass about improving the game's http://thematrixonline.station.sony.com/players/site? Cause this:
Does not equal this:
or even this:
DON'T tell me Vanguard has made more money for Sony than MxO. Just the licensing rights to MxO alone are worth a lot. I don't mind the effort we as players put into our own game. In fact, as hobbies go, I rather enjoy doing this stuff more than any other hobby I've tried. We've made player-run recruiting sites, intiated awareness campaigns amongst our sister game communities, created fan art, created viral video, and the list goes on but I'll keep it brief. But enough is enough. Look, I don't expect tv commercials. I don't want them to re-issue the game in stores. But *CENSORED*! How about a little freakin WEB DESIGN!??! We could do in a day what the SOE marketing clowns take MONTHS do! Oh, I know. Permissions. Images. Legality. BAH! It's just a bunch of beauraucratic CRAP to hide behind to avoid expenditures. Well, if you don't want to improve the game, why even have it as part of the Station Pass? Obviously SOE Marketing thinks there is still a market for this game. Is this really an indication of how little they care about the impression that first time customers are going to get? We want a better website. We deserve a little goddamned effort from someone besides the meatshield devs and csr's they throw at us (no offense to you guys) who are already working their collective asses into the ground for us. And to those guys, I apologize if this starts a flame session. I just wanted to vent because I know how easy it is to do the stuff we're asking for, and how a little effort goes a long way. Veteran rewards? Hell, at this point, I'd just settle for being treated like a valued customer.

After listening to the SOE podcasts, I must say that the MxO news is often (when there is any) pretty. . .uninspiring. . .to put it nicely (no offense to whomever writes it). What does everyone think about writing these up ourselves and submitting them to Brenlo (via Virrago if need be)? I have no doubt members of the community can do a better job, and the point of this news is to make this 30 second message as interesting as possible. For example, as I'm most familiar with the work on the MxO myspace, so I'd like to add something about that: Players of the Matrix Online are promoting their game in an innovative new way; they have developed their own MySpace page that features amazing player-made game videos, artwork, and links for trial keys. If you are a MySpace-r, join the MxO community at myspace.com/mxospace. Yes, I know this is yet another instance of players doing SOE's job of promoting the game, but hey. . .given the choice of having nothing and doing this, I choose this. Anyone else?

For the love of Christ! THere was nothing wrong with that thread!! Even when it got a little terse between the people, they still worked it out! And where's the spam? By the end, it was still on topic. It was a fun thread that we were having a good time chatting. Where was the warning? Where was the polite request to keep things on topic? Instead, we get . . . A BIG FAT LOCK! It's getting to the point where we can't even have a conversation on these forums without some freakin' Mod deciding that it's a little too close to spam/flaming/baiting/etc for his liking, so-o-o-o. . .LOCKED! =PPP LOL, good Lord, it's no wonder this forum is as dead as Elvis.

I put this in the ability feedback forum, but since that forum may as well be hidden, it getting pretty much ignored there. I'm hoping to get some help with this. Has there ever been a compilation of the rate of progression (level by level) for Style influences? Not talking about title buffs (although if they scale, I could use that info as well), just about the Styles (Kung Fu, Hacker, Spy, etc) Such as this that was given in the Attribute guide on the main page: Self-Defense Style Influences: - Ballistic Accuracy : 1 point per level
- Ballistic Defense : 0.96 ppl
- Ballistic Damage : 2 pts (base) + 0.2 ppl
- Melee Accuracy : 1 ppl
- Melee Defense : 0.96 ppl
- Melee Damage : 4 pts (base) + 0.42 ppl
- Thrown Defense : 0.96 ppl
- Viral Defense : 0.96 ppl
Or does this 'influence scaling template' apply to all of them?

Since it was a constructive thread and I am (apparently) the one who got it locked, I feel obligated to start it again so that players may continue the constructive criticism of what many of us consider to be the largest faux pas the admins of The Matrix Online have ever made. The question, as the thread title suggests, is how do you, as players, feel about the forum moderator positions being filled by your fellow players? In my opinion, poor moderation practices and policies have led to the moderators of this forum playing favorites with friends from inside the game, elevating some players to more lenient standards while holding other's feet to the fire, and generally misusing the power of the position. I believe the solution lies in reducing the number of moderators, and completely removing the abilities to lock and "move" threads from moderators who have active characters that they play on a regular basis. Raijinn and Jurymen can evaluate threads that are recommended by the player mods. In truth, Jurymen is the only mod that has proven both effective and concerned about the players as much as he is concerned about the policies. In short, on a forum that only has about a hundred posts a day, the daily over-moderation is choking the life from this once tightly-knit community.

We used to always hear about the exalted "Bug Fix Priority List" What if 9mmfu publish some form of said list here on the forums? Then, we could see what he was working on fixing, approximately when he thought it might be fixed in game, give him feedback and ideas, etc. At the very least, it would bring more value to this Development forum, rather than just and endless string of threads containing good, but impossible, ideas. And don't tell me this is a "future content" thing!
