hmm, how about less posts like these and we carry on playing, the fact is yes...a lot of people have left, but....

there are so many new players out there that counter-act the legends of the game that have left. look at the live events for example, i swear i have never seen even half of the people who congregate at them (and i've been playing since November 2005 on and off), most are Zions of course, but when they hit lvl 50 they usually drift into other organisations, such is the way of the game..

don't give up hope, just work with what you have...
these new players you speak of are more than likely alts or people who play this game strictly b/c of station access. the only people left who play this game are hardcore Matrix fans (which I am), so essentially MxO has become a niche game.

As I said before in this thread, the only way this game can be revived (attracting new players) is more content, i.e. expansions and the like. Heck, scrapping this game and completely remaking a new one on a good engine with a decent combat system and content is more likely to get a sufficient player base. And personally, I hope for that to happen.

Yea, but I don't think Warner Brothers or the Wachowski Brothers are going to let anyone make MxO 2.0.  Mainly because of the poor performance of this MxO.  They'll have to basically be promised that MxO 2.0 would make more profit than this game currently is making.
Well, they sure as hell know what not to do the second time around, right? lol But yeah, I agree, I don't think they'll risk anymore $$$, especially on a hit/miss scheme that this franchise seems to be.

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Organization Special Rewards Re:Organization Special Rewards aiolos 0 04/23/2007 14:08
Well, we all know the gm's'll say "we gave you archive rewards for each organization", so I doubt they'll do anything like that anytime soon.

Though I always wondered why Agent Gray (or any org leader for that matter), in that Meet (Organization Leader) mission when you hit 16 rep, never gave you anything like the Operator says you did, or at least anything that I was aware of.

Other than that, don't expect anything, if they ever consent to such a thing, too drastic, such as something that you can just tell the moment you see it that it belongs to a specific organization and that isn't a rehash of some old item, i.e. a different texture on a coat or gun or beret.

If anything, I would say something like this would be a good adition to the white halls, for RP purposes, non functional, just a white room with racks and racks of guns that could be attached to one of the doors in the white halls.
Simple solution: the only guns that show up are the ones you've already decomp'd in your library (which would still justify the Weapon Maker), and the guns in your inventory.

I agree, although pvp in MxO has been boring since the Monolith days. The only way the devs can make the pvp somewhat meaningful is by making it live event based, i.e. Agent Gray wants all Machinists to rack up X amount of CQ points to quell Y's rebellion; Gray then gives FM-1500 or some such item to the most bloodthirsty player. Other than that, there was talk about org-specific abilities and pvp items and whatnot, but all that died with the exile of HCFrog.

Like you Miggs, I come back for pvp (and the story, but that's a different topic), and lately thought that by rolling on Vector I still had a reason to justify why I still play this game. But, I was re-introduced to why MxO is so hard to love, and that is its mission system. I can't bear another lv50 grind, no matter how much I want to gank lv16 noobs, so I'm currently trying to find another game that satisfies me on both story and gameplay aspects.

Like everything in the Matrix universe, balance needs to be prevalent, and here the story takes precedence over gameplay, which is why we don't have nearly the numbers WoW has.

If SoE gets more money they will have more money to invest in the Access games period.  MxO is part of station access and Im sure it gets some revenue from the station accounts.  I know it fun to think SoE is money grubbing whose focus is purely profit but that's not neccesarily in line with their business plan.  I think there plan it more to levelage all station account games and to get people subscribed to the network.  They have a couple of hot games in the works I will just have to buy the boxes and not put up a monthly sub for them.

Therefore, with each new Access game, the pass becomes more and more attractive.  I imagine it's more attractive to the people who just play games to entertain themselves vs. trying to min/max one game at a time.  MxO isn't neccesarily a game people go out to buy.  I think new players are probably more likely on the pass and checking it out because they can.  I have been really impressed by the game so far and am glad I got the pass just because of it.  I like the other games too and find value in 30 bucks a month for EQ2, SWG, MXO and Vanguard.  The offerings will only get better even if that's means price increases.

who seriously plays all those games on a regular basis to justify 30/month? And the games included on the station pass are hardly attractive. Everquest maybe, but that's one game for 30/month. I currently sub only to MxO for 15/month, so it makes more sense to sub to one game rather than a package of games you'll never play.

And tell me one corporation whose aim is not profit, and I'm talking big-time, the likes of which Sony can accurately be labelled a part of.

1) Thats always good.
2)How about i start complaining now.
3) nothing in store? Ive been in this game from the beggining , and let me tell you...im not expecting much. Maybe a dev MIGht actualy get on a character and name him Smith. Then go around killing people , making them him smithlings *like the movie* and then everyone will be flagged.
4)Again , i wont expect the devs to do anything.

If they do , then ive been proven wrong. But i have yet to be proven wrong when it comes to events like this.

Ive seen people log on that i havent seen since cr1 Just to see the 2 year event. This could of been mxo big break through but i dont think sony saw that and didn't realy try.

boy were you right lmao actually, a lot of people guessed this, myself being one of them. I, like a lot of people, were hopeful at first, but it was a vague kind of hope, not really expecting much. When you don't have a lot of money and only one dev doing the live events, something as big as the smith virus was turned into random npc spawning events plus a rare lv100 smith virus. And, no surprise here, no good loot on any of the lv60 smithlings, just frags and info and, for the most part, lv40 gear. Yay.

When you take something as popular and widely regarded as story canon as the Smith Virus and downscale it to unbelievable levels, that's when you know a game has no future. New items are just re-textured recycles of old items, new static content is introduced wayyyyy to rarely, and the storyline is still something only a diehard could love. I don't know what kind of audience SoE is adhering too, but it's not one that's very lucrative. Like a lot of people have said, this could have been the one thing to finally get this game some attention, but sony, as usual, ignored it.
Gameplay Discussion Districts, Neighborhoods, and Constructs A Question Regarding the Machine Stronghold A Question Regarding the Machine Stronghold aiolos 0 04/03/2007 16:32
I wasn't able to pinpoint a specific article regarding this question via the search function, so I decided to try the next best thing: ask about it SMILEY

So, ever since the org constructs came out I've heard that the interrogation room was accessible in the Machine Stronghold, and that is what this post is all about. I've yet to see this room, and I've been wanting to base some RP there, but like I said, I've yet to access it. So this makes me wonder: does it in fact exist? Am I just chasing a false lead?

My Machine rep is at 110 (never could get it at 127) so I think I'm privileged enough to access pretty much anything regarding the Machines. I know there are as many as five different variations of the construct, but so far I've seen the same thing: just a bunch of holding cells. Is it just a matter of "keep trying," or is there something else involved?

Thanks for any information any of you can give SMILEY

I agree man. The t-shirts were a MAJOR letdown. You would have figured that for something like THE RETURN OF AGENT SMITH would have warranted cooler reward items, but nay. But hey, you can't expect too much with this game, right? SMILEY

Fighting the Smiths was pretty cool, even if they look nothing like the actual character, just the lame disguise texture with a flame virus added to it. Oh well, me and my friends are still gonna have fun taking over the city.

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Change buffs 4 Construct/Hideout Boss drops Re:Change buffs 4 Construct/Hideout Boss drops aiolos 0 03/27/2007 12:39
One thing I always hated about this game was the total lack of individualism. If anyone remembers the old days of pre-CR2 then you'll remember how everyone looked the same. Everyone had the troll's hide, had the widow's moor lenses, the lionskin's, etc, but ever since CR2 came along something happened: variety. While there still isn't much variety (I still see clones of myself to this day), it certainly is better than before.

The downside to all this though is that all the buffs went to clothing you can get via loot from NPC's in missions and gangs and such, and while this is good, it takes away from the constructs and hideouts and collectors. In two years, the only thing that changed about the drops from the said three sources were the buffs, and, as the OP stated, the buffs are meaningless when compared to the items you can get from looting. Granted, the clothes from PB are some of the best in the game, but still, you see everyone walking around in the same gear.

What I've always admired was WoW's system of loot: they're seperated by tiers and class, so everything looks different, even if you have the same class wearing drops from the same boss. What I want is something akin to that system, something that looks *gasp* different. The NPCs and gangs get all the nice looking clothes, while the players are always getting shafted.

And about the lv50's warping low level players, that's always gonna happen. You can't penalize someone for that. If you want to fight it to the bottom, then you're free to do so. If you want to warp/be warped, then you're free to do that as well, you're gonna get the same thing in the end. Besides, those who fight it out get more stuff anyway, and are rewarded in the end.
Community General Discussion MACHINE COVER-UP???? I THINK I HAVE PROOF! Re:MACHINE COVER-UP???? I THINK I HAVE PROOF! aiolos 0 03/27/2007 00:34
All this seems to tell me is that the Machine's are smarter than your average human. You really think that under this fragile armistice that the Machines are going to do nothing? Each side is afraid of what the other is capable of, so they build up their respective powers and try to harvest intelligence, pursuing their own agendas. A classic Cold War scenario.

If anything, the event on Friday told me that Seraph was there to reveal what the Machines were up to. Now Seraph may not have been acting under Zion (he seems possessed if anything) but it does make one wonder what the Zion council and the Merv are up to. I doubt the Machines are the only ones utilizing misinformation around here. It is the Matrix after all.

And don't forget, the Machines aren't human, so the chances of them deliberately "violating the truce" are remote at best.

exactly what I was about to say lol

This has happened to me in Westview and especially in the Creston Heights Museum. The Ravenous from the first level opened the elevator doors and attacked me, followed me up through the lobby before dissapearing lol

In Westview, a certain gang (they wear red shirts and gray beanies, can't remember their name atm) will follow me through the elevator and into the mission area.

In International, two mission NPCs casually walk out of the mission area and stroll on outside. Thankfully, I didn't need to do anything with them so I let them go, but it was the most mind-blowing thing I've seen, and I've been playing a game based on the Matrix for near two years lol

The most annoying thing of all though is still that *CENSORED* Creston Heights bug. I can't begin to tell you how many times those NPCs have screwed me over on my way down to reach the Pandora collector.

Please devs, for the love of god, fix this bug. While it is ammusing, it is kinda getting ridiculous lol

Desert of the Real SOE Discussion What would it take to revive Mxo? Re:What would it take to revive Mxo? aiolos 0 03/24/2007 21:23
Dude, this question has been asked for as long as I can remember, and I've been here since the beginning.

The thing is, like straticfire pointed out, when SOE took over, a lot of things changed. For one, back with Monolith, MxO had an expansive live event team. You didn't have these small affairs like we do today, nor did we have just one person doing all the live events. SOE fired half the development team so off the bat, there went the opportunity for expansion packs or an endless supply of endgame comment (a la WoW). The reason why we don't have much endgame is because Monolith decided to focus more time and money on the live events instead of perma-content, and while that was enough to keep people like me around, the live events only lasted two months and so the game failed to draw any new players. Heck, the game was struggling to hold on to even 20,000 or so players in the first trial month (main reason people left back then was because of the lag-tastic events; while they were good, they were too epic) and since then has been steadily declining (think we're somewhere below 10,000 players).

The truth is man, SOE never had any intention of carrying MxO, they only got it as a package deal off of WB, and anyone who tells you different is lieing. To the devs' credit though, they've been trying their damnedest to get new content out there (pandora's box, MxO's only attempt at a quest, was added a year and half ago; they added the white hallway constructs for each organization; and gave a new drop in 01), but the problem is, it comes out at such a slow pace that by the time new content does come out the people that would have stayed for it are already gone. One thing I forgot to mention, CR2, took more than six months to go through testing and to be released on live servers. Just a small indication.

So yeah man, unless more devs are hired, don't expect a whole lot of content to be released in the near future; hell, the game'll probably be shut down by that time. The devs' priority is the story and bugs (the game, as you've already found out, is buggy as all hell), and content comes later. It's a shame with what happened to this game, and all that gets people interested is an exciting plotline (I already know of more than 20 people coming back to check out the Smith virus event). And pretty soon, that's all that I'll be coming back for as well. World of Warcraft is looking more and more interesting the more I look into it and hear about it.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty to keep you going for a year or so, like contact missions, the archives, constructs, the occassional event, hideouts, pvp, (I'm actually back from a four month hiatus, and that's been keeping me going) but like so many, the lack of content begins to wear on you (and it probably will on me, which is why I'm looking into WoW).

Other than that, what server are you on? If you're on Vector, then yeah, there aren't a lot of people there (don't know why, I love pvp), but the other two servers have pretty healthy populations. If you are on Recursion though, look me up ingame and I'll show you around the city.

I've already stocked up on accuracy buffing clothes under this assumption but haven't tested the affects yet on my gunman loadout (just been support the past couple days).

Other than that, I use the firearms skill as well, which gives me another boost in damage. My main concern at this point is just getting through my opponents' resistances and doing as much damage as I can.

What clothes do you wear for pvp that gives you optimal damage and resistance in ballistics? Where can I find these items? And any tips on how to achieve maximum damage on an opponent?

Thanks in advance.

Before

and

After

After staring at the same hairstyle for two years, I'm still just blown away by the difference between the two. So amazing. And I feel that old MxO excitement again over something so new yet so subtle. Thanks devs SMILEY

Three months...much has transpired in the time that has lapsed between then and now. Holiday vacation was a long one for me, and couple that with the fact that I needed to get reaquainted with MxO (again) spelled a long hiatus.

But alas, I have returned, and I come with the next episode of my story (it ends, I promise lol).

For those of you who have stuck around, I thank you. For the others, I don't blame you. Above all, keep reading SMILEY

Support Forums General Technical Help and Questions Windows Setup Windows Setup aiolos 0 02/27/2007 01:53

I have a question regarding Windows XP on my laptop.

Apparently an important file got corrupted and now Windows refuses to start because of it. Here's the exact message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

The problem is, I lost the setup cd, so I have no way of repairing it, so I was wondering if there was any way around it or if there's a place I could get a new copy for cheap or a site online might have it available for download.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks SMILEY
