((this is an RP story dedicated to fires. His account ended before he could post a goodbye RP story so i am doing this for him. I know its been awhile since he left but i think he deserves this.))
...The Matrix; late afternoon...
It was late in the day but it was still warm out. The clouds had been gathering all that day and it looked like it would rain any moment.
"God I hate the rain. It's so depressing." Thought fires to himself
This was a special day for fires. It was the anniversary of his awakening. He had decided to go back to his old haunts in his old neighborhood to reminisce about days gone by.
As he rounded a corner he saw some of the local gang members rouging up a bluepill. Now this was a common sight and fires would have paid it no mind but he recognized the person they were harassing.
A knife whizzed by the face of one of them and hit another in the arm.
"Hey! The Merovingian pay you extra for that?! Get out of here before I actually hurt you!" Yelled fires as he came up on the gang members.
They scattered quickly at the imposing figure of fires and his impressive aim.
"Hey you ok?" fires asked the bluepill.
"I think so. Bunch of thugs. Thank you for the help. Did you see if . . ." He trailed off as he looked into the face of his rescuer.
"Oh I see you recognize me now." fires chuckled.
"What?! Where?! How?! When?!" He stuttered.
"Oh that's right it's been a year now. Well first things first. Just call me fires. Second, Lets go to your place. I think it would be safer. Come on Corey"
"O-ok." Was all Corey could get past his lips.
...A few minutes later; Corey's apartment...
"I see some things never change." laughed fires as he stepped into the oddly familiar apartment.
"You were always such a slob."
"Well it looks like some things change a lot ..... uh ..... fires right?" said Corey.
"Fires is right. Now I suspect you have a few questions for me. The first one I believe we should get out of the way right now."
"Yeah. WHERE IN GODS NAME HAVE YOU BEEN THIS PAST YEAR!?" Demanded Corey.
" . . . . . There is no easy answer to this question. But I can say that i have been busy helping wipe some of the scum out of the city."
"So you were a cop?"
"Not exactly."
"What then?"
"Well to put it simply I was a *fires considered his words carefully* member of a special anti-terrorist team. I was not allowed to contact anyone I knew which is why you haven't heard from me, or even seen me."
"Ok I can buy that." said Corey
"Well getting away from the topic of where you have been. How have you been?"
"I've been ok. Helping out the people of the city is quite rewarding."
"One can tell from all the leather your wearing." Said Corey sarcastically.
"These? Oh actually I got these from ..... friends."
"I'll bet."
"Well anyway enough about me how have you been?"
Fires would never know the answer to that question though seeing as his cellphone rang. Fires answered and an odd expression replaced the happy look he just had. It moved from this odd look to one of fear. Fires looked around nervously.
"I'm sorry Corey but I have to leave. There is pressing business that I must attend to. Don't worry though. I'll be back and we can continue this discussion later."
Fires bowed to Corey as he left and got in the elevator, still holding the cellphone.
"Ok its safe now. Now what's so important that I had to leave the apartment?" Fires said into the phone.
"You are being targeted by agents. You must seek a hardline and exit the matrix now. We don't know what's going on or why you have been marked but the machines have deemed you too dangerous to let live." said the voice over the phone.
"CRAP! They're overriding the emergency jackout protocols and have killed all the hardlines in a mile radius. Fires you have to get out of there NOW!."
"How much time do I have?" asked Fires.
"About two minutes before your drowning in agents."
"Jesus Christ! That's it?! Hell with this."
Fires bolted from the building as soon as the elevator hit the ground floor. He began sprinting as fast as he could hoping he could at least make it to a Zion outpost before he got caught. He made it to one of the buildings holding one of the redpill extraction points but when he opened the door he was looking into the glasses of an agent.
Luckily for fires the agent hadn't drawn his gun and instead punched fires in his chest sending him flying several meters backward through the air. Fires looked up from the ground as the agent was walking up to him.
Fires panicked and jumped up onto the roof of the building and began running across the roof and jumping to the next few buildings, the agent hot on his heels the whole way.
"THIS ISN'T HAPPENING! THIS ISN'T HAPPENING! THIS ISN'T HAPPENING!" fires kept repeating in his head as he ran.
Finally fires lost sight of the agent and thought he had lost him. He pulled out his cellphone and dialed his operator.
"Operator."
"where's the nearest active hardline?!"
"Another seven-hundred meters straight ahead."
fires hung up and started running down back alleys hoping that if the agent was still on his trail he could have better cover in the alleyways.
...Several moments later...
"Finally!"
As fires reached for the receiver a bullet hit his hand.
"SON OF A!!" Screamed fires as he clutched his hand.
"You are not going anywhere." The agent said.
"SCREW YOU!" Yelled fires as he pulled out one of his SMGs and opened up on the agent.
The agent effortlessly dodged the entire clip from the machine gun. Fires stood still pointing the gun at the agent pulling the trigger. Time seemed to slow down as the agent drew his gun. Pointed it at fires' head and pulled the trigger of its desert eagle. For a few moments fires thought he could see the bullet travel to his head.
A loud resonating bang was all that was left as the agent put his weapon away and fires slumped to the ground. It began raining as the agent walked away. The drops slowly hitting fires' face. It looked as though the sky itself was crying at fires' passing from the world.
